This podcast is an act of service! Spreading love, spirituality, and allowing room for reflection and deep thought about our place in the world and how we can be of service. Thank you, Rainn! Alláh-u-Abhá. ❤
"A majority of young people wished that nobody was on social media and if they could- they would pay money so that no one would be on social media.... they know there is something they are not getting. They are starving..." Thank you, Arthur and Rainn!
As a 22 year old who loves the office. I am even more thankful for this podcast. My first watch/ sit down here was on bobby lee’s appearance. But this was something I needed even more & im glad I let this next one play all the way before trying to get some sleep. This heals my soul. Keep up the good work rain ❤
"the problem isn't social media, it's getting all of your social contact through social media.. the problem is binging" GOLDEN quote. this podcast is truly hitting home as a 25 year old who was atheist, turned to God through christianity, and gave my life to a church and ended up being kicked to the curb once questions started arising. I hold a lot of hurt with the modern day church (as most people nowadays do top) but I'm realizing the relationship with God goes beyond the systematic structures I was taught/brought up in. anywho, I've been watching the office on repeat since I was 15 and it's so refreshing to see characters you look up to, also be really cool humans. I have so much respect for you Rainn for what you're doing, it's really helping me recover my sense of spirituality
Simply, thank you. The light you share in this conversation illuminated a missing piece for me. As a composer, I listen for the next note. When that note sings as the true voice of beauty and honesty, I am the conduit that flows the energy coming through me. I am at the service of this voice and this is my purpose, the gift I give that was given to me. Listening to your conversation, I felt a welcoming acceptance of the concept of God, something I have come to grudgingly, suspiciously, with reservations. In childhood, I loved God. As an old woman, I return to this love.
Over the last 4 or 5 years ive drifted away from i guess being open to spirituality and in turn drifted away from myself. Just stumbled on the Bobby Lee episode and now im halfway through this one amd i somehow feel like my neglected soul seed might be getting some much needed nutrition. Ill keep watching this pod and watching my universe and continue being open in both.
As a former Catholic school teacher who has felt a bit lost since changing careers (in which I now ironically make almost 4 times more but money is not my idol), this podcast (and book) has reinvigorated my life. A big thank you to Rainn for his willingness to host a Catholic and a big thank you to Arthur for being so open about it. I realize that my sense of loss is from no longer being able to practice virtues every day as I was constantly compelled to do with a room of 20 kiddos. So now I strive to practice virtues in any way I can in my every day existence. Another gem of the Catholic faith: The Fruits of the Holy Spirit - Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self Control. Peace to All 🙂
Praise the mother! good job guys! Homage to you for being brave enough to do this in this day and age. Rime in Tibetan is the movement of accepting all religions as truth. this podcast is doing that. Thank you Rainn
Thank you guys for such an amazing episode. I'm not a very religious person but I meditate, share ideas about non-using social media and be more aware about our perfect world, and I pray every day. Pray for love, peace, and being here in the moment. I really hope that one day we all become better humans. Thank you
Amazing guest! I feel the biggest problem we face today is that humans have lost their gauge of what Truth actually is and Arthur said it at the beginning of this conversation: "To love God as it is, without expectation." As it is = Truth. Truth, by definition, can not be subject to opinion! Our media landscape has turned opinion into "versions of Truth" that people feel they have to choose between to find connection! To use your name as inspiration, if half of people believed rain was a sign from above and half believed it was a random weather pattern... the only Truth that exists is the experience of rain! So grateful for your little slice of spirituality in the world. Thanks for doing it! 💚
I’m watching this on my 4th sobriety birthday, I’m blessed to be in 12 step fellowship and the hounds of heaven came calling for me ❤ thank you for this beautiful conversation. Good luck to anyone on your seeking journey. Let go, and let God.
Half way through "live the life you want" Mr.Brooks thank you. I just got out of an 8 yr relationship now I’m a single father with two kids, each day I try to go in the direction of happiness! Mad scientist out.
I’m a 50 year old Taoist monk. My morning routine is, 30 minutes of breath meditation, then 10 minutes submerged in 10C water then 2 mile walk at sunrise. After doing this for 41 years I can say it is a good way to start the day ☯️🙏
I'm a big fan. Thanks for all your work. Thanks for the positivity your trying to push. I just wanted to say you have helped me get through some rough times. I appreciate it
Two amazing legends!! 🥰Thank you for this episode! It was an amazing, loving, and important episode, this podcast is changing the way I think and makes me reflect on life's questions, with some laughs along the way. It is amazing to see two very spiritual and religiously committed discussing religion without trying to demonstrate which one is better. Thank you! ❤❤❤
I like this episode. I like that. It said you have to put something into it your religion to get something back. You just can’t sit back and wait For you to be gifted. I do feel you have to give something into the world to get something back and it made me realize. Maybe I’m not giving into the world as much as I should. Life is work along with everything else in life. It really made me think about a lot of different things, bravo to rainy and his speaker.
This podcast has continued to move me and bring me to tears of compassion and joy. You mentioned that you texted your friend a number where they could help others via a suicide helpline. I would love the chance to help others like that. Would you be willing to share the group you were referring to that needs volunteers? With love my friend... ❤
I can feel the hounds of heaven chasing my elusive behind for years now. There is something I can't explain looking for me. I don't agree with any religion I've known so far but I know He wants me to stay close. I feel it's time to stop running. Cheers from Mexico and thank you.
This is your most on target episode yet as compared to your "mission statement". Rainn, this episode moved me. I feel like a hindered spirit in your estrangement from normalcy. I'd very much like to be pen pals, if only for one, or two communications. Thank you for putting your time, efforts, and funding into this program. I see it helping many others as well.
Love the show, this is only the 3rd episode I've watched. I think Raphael Bob-Waksberg (the creator of Bojack horseman) would make a great guest. I will keep commenting his name until he is on the show
As an agnostic I'd really love to learn more about Arthurs wifes conversion, it really looks like she must have some sort of experience that pulled her to religion.
There is a Cosmic purpose to your life, there is a divine hand in your life but you have to pay attention to it" ♥ Well, Well, well, I pay once attention to a handsome talented actor ( called Rainn Wilson?) and I ended here, reconnecting with all the things that I always wanted to be connected and always care about, but I just had forgot!
Thought I was watching an Arthur Brooks podcast throughout this episode. This man is so pretentious, seems to love hearing himself talk, and was constantly moving the conversation to what he wanted to say. Rainn did not drive this conversation. Which is probably why this podcast didn't flow. Like an irritating tug of war conversation. So hard to watch.
Brooks explains why many Americans support Israel: “Americans believe that pluralistic democratic capitalism is good for everybody in the world, and we look for outposts around the world that share that, particularly in this extremely adversarial conditions. And there’s no better example of that than Israel. And so the reason that we stand with Israel, the reason that we all should and many of us do, and the reason that people came all across the country is because we want the best for everybody.”
You probably won’t see this comment Rainn, but I found this podcast after I discovered the Soul Boom book at a city bookshop. I converted to Taoism, belong to The Church of the Latter Day Dude which is a sect of modern Taoism based on The Big Lebowski film. Would you consider Lao Tzu as one of the great teachers you often speak of? I have a bronze statue of him on my altar next to my bed. I wouldn’t consider it an idol, more like a representation of him that invites him into my home.
God is a security blanket. Some can't deal with living with not knowing why life is, so they'll cling to whatever makes them feel protected. I help where I can and don't use or hurt anyone, God not needed. I do it just because it's just, not in service, not out of fear, not out of hoping to be rewarded.
Interesting how the abuse of power by priests and other religious leaders and gurus during the 1950s-1970s, and the church's failure to be accountable for the harm committed, wasn't mentioned as an influential factor of backing away from attending church.
I disagree with your guest. You do have listeners who oppose religion, but still want to hear discussions about what makes us all human, philosophies about the human experience, spirituality, and connections within the universe.
17:36 -so, is God hunting everyone down because I’m never going back to the Christian version ever. So which god is it? Btw, I just started streaming LIVE my writing my religious memoirs last night if anyone wants to hear from the 🐴 👄
I understand the necessity of working together to enrich each other’s lives etc, but I really can’t get behind the anti-outrage sentiment regarding politics. While I can agree that anger is not a productive emotion, turning the other cheek per se when fascism is on the rise globally is incredibly irresponsible. We can’t namaste ourselves out of a holocaust.
If you can feel angry with God because you think your "life" isnt good enough but yet was him who gave you that "life", is cause you think there is a GOD.... So if your " life" comes from God, what is it? ISNT it a gift from God the opportunity to live and experience life and its differents emotions? If he had given you a life already resolved, where you couldnt feel bad if you didn't like it and change it, cause its done or you cant even experience to feel that others' lives were easy as you mentioned cause its useless, would it have been worth it? What would have been the gift or the role that belongs to you, if life had already been made in a certain way and guaranteed? That is the adventure and the invitation, it is like a video game. Would you like to reach the last level without any challenge? Why would you play the game it if it was already solved and easy? if you werent doing any change cause everything is already set or you couldnt interfering in the results? Is that a living life? sounds more to a death, so maybe it doesnt have to be easy, has to be worthy.
Hey Rainn, if you're ever in the Miami area I hope you can link up with notsoErudite on her Bridges podcast, she spoke positively of your Baháʼí Faith and got me looking into you as a person after loving The Office for years! Loving the show :)

Brooks and Wilson! What a great combo! Very meaningful conversation.
Thank you for thinking of this podcast! It’s something meaningful & I really need that.

So strange when grown adults still believe in a "god". Its hard to be taken seriously.
