Can you please elaborate on the testing methodology used to arrive at your results; were the steamers compared using their internal DACs? How does each streamer compare as a streamer only fed to an external DAC? Which downstream equipment was used, etc. Thank you.
Thank you very much for this well structured and summarised review, the bombshell is that there is no bombshell, which to be honest makes a lot of sense.
Good morning and thank you for that bombshell :) Which of course, we discovered there was no bombshell and that does indeed make sense. I think that ALL devices we tested offered something that justified their RRP and thats actually reassuring and should give a potential buyer confidence in their purchase. Thanks again. Mark :)
As others have pointed out, what wasn't done, was to take all the price category winners and pit them against each other at the end of the test. I will almost guarantee you, that in a blind test, the cheaper units would win at least some of the votes.
Nice video. I too was hoping to see more of the actual results. What were the strengths and weaknesses of each unit. There are loads of new streamers offered. I dont have a hifi store nearby. I have to buy and return or worse buy and resell almost always at a loss. So I really like this series. To many reviewers are shills or afraid to give a negative review for fear of never receiving more gear to evaluate.
Hi Patrick and thank you for your comments and feedback. Each have their characteristics, but that can also be subjective and some of our team members had very different opinions on the same devices. All are good but it really comes to your personal preference. For me, I really liked the Volumio, The Audiolab and the RS150B, that would have been my choice from each price band :) These offered the best levels of refinement in my opinion. Cheers, Mark :)
Just for a moment, going beyond the listening preference, which of the user interfaces is the slickest, most intuitive and and well thought out (bug free) as of this point? Thank you so much for this series of comparison content 👍🏻
Hi Marcus and thank you for the feedback and question. From our experience, Roon (Payable) was the best in terms of ease of use. The Eversolo app is good, the HiFi Rose App was VERY easy to use as was Volumio. They are all 'similar' if that makes sense but different at the same time. I guess there was no 'bad' app in there and all are good once you get used to them. Cheers, Mark :)
I would have liked to seen comparisons with the higher end streamers like you did with the Eversolo and Volumeo. I was looking forward to that as an opportunity that we don’t usually get to see a comparison of more streamers. And I agree that it would’ve been nice to compare streamers when connected to an external Dac. We are being flooded with streamers, and it is difficult to tell the truth and certainly we will not be able to hear enough options ourselves to be able to figure that out. I am coming to the conclusion that even with streamers, you get what you pay for, as you said.
Good morning and thank you for the feedback. Its really appreciated. In reality, we could have run this series on for a lot more weeks, showing each compared to another, but we have other comparison type videos scheduled too on the comparing weeks, DAC's are one of the next items we are going to do a. similar series on . But in essence (with the caveat of personal preferences) you really do get pretty much what you pay for :) Cheers, Mark
Hi, and thanks for the comments and feedback.Look out for next weeks video - its will have the Rivo v the Master Edition as a transport only. :) Cheers, Mark
Really interesting video and thank you for taking the time to do this. As a physical retailer you have the benefit of being able to compare multiple products in the way you have and that is worth a great deal and hugely undervalued in these days of internet purchasing and online reviewing. As you correctly identify (imo) there is no magic bullet and generally speaking (not always, but generally) you get what you pay for. There is also the huge and unmeasurable (and rarely talked about) importance of system synergy - some gear just 'works' together to deliver a sonic sweetspot if you like. Measurements only tell you so much, and have far too much importance attached to them by too many - you have to listen and decide what sounds best for you taking into account your budget, the features you want and even how the equipment looks. Finally, there is a lot of comment out there based around 'if its expensive it must be a rip off', a massive assumption that a £100 streamer or DAC for example is a 'giant killer' and other nonesense. What they really mean is it might be good value at £100 but its no substitute for a well designed and executed piece of hifi equipment. You get what you pay for. Thanks again and you have another new subscriber on the basis of this video.
Good morning and thank you very much for your feedback and comments. Probably one of the most balanced comments and definitely accurate in what you say. There is always hype around some very low price devices and they will as you say, represent good value for that price, but I hope we have demonstrated that generally, you get what you pay for. Thanks again for the subscription, it is really appreciated. Cheers, Mark :)
Any comparison like this should include the homebrew option that many of us rely on: a humble Raspberry Pi equipped with audio-specific hats to compete with the high-end alternatives. Excluding what enthusiasts build at home feels incomplete. As a Volumio fan, I naturally lean towards its aesthetic and usability, and I'm confident that, when connected to the same DAC, the sound quality would be indistinguishable across different streamers for me-unless there’s some manipulation happening with the track spacing. For me, the decision ultimately comes down to the software experience and the streamer's design. That said, some Raspberry Pi cases look stunning, and with Volumio’s streaming capabilities. The little Pi is arguably the most flexible streamer of all.
Thank you for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it. The Master Edition is in my opinion, definitely worth the extra over the standard edition :). Cheers, Mark :)
As someone who only uses a streamer for digital transport (and obviously an interface to operate my tidal via tidal connect), it would have been nice to hear if you guys measured any difference in data transfer? The DACs and analogue stages are irrelevant to many of us.
@@tonesbones502 I don't know how audible it is because I have never tested any of them. It's definitely something you get and forget about. Tell me if you find some good options 😁
I appreciate your efforts in approaching such a dufficult task. Am curious as to why multiple models were chosen from certain nfgs, and why so many other popular higher end brands in a similar price point as your determined winner weren't included? Thanks
Good morning Eugene, we have a Volumio v's Eversolo transport only section comparison coming oin the next few weeks, so keep a look out for that arriving :) Cheers, Mark
Maybe there is no way of telling, but I wonder if it is possible to roughly position the Eversolo DMP-A8 in this list, once you have heard it. Maybe in the review of the DMP-A8 mention this?
Great series!! Looking forward to the Rivo vs Masters as streamers only (with external DAC). It would also be nice to know whether the Masters upgrade is still worth it when using external DAC. Subscribed! Cheers and congratulations!
Good afternoon and thank you for subscribing, its really appreciated. We have been blind testing this week and filming today, so video will be out on Thursday - its a VERY intriguing comparison in many ways! Mark :)
Hi, can you please tell me if this is a right setup : EVERSOLO MASTER EDITION connected directly to a MICHI S5 by XLRs. This is associated with the B&W 802 D3. Thanks for your help
Good afternoon and thank you for the comment and question. The Michi S5 is a great amplifier and connecting balanced is a great way to use this set up (Which should sound really good !) Cheers, Mark :)
nice to see a test like this. is the sound test with analogue out to amp, or have you testet with digital out? I guess the big difference in sound is with analogue out :)

THANKS Mark for the testing... a realitive factor for people to remember, and consider is COST $$, I guess the easiest way to say it in a monetary sense is: You can't drive the Lamborghini, if you can only afford the VW payments! lol So, when considering Audio Equipment you must compare those pieces of equipment within your PRICE RANGE/AFFORDABILITY to make a sound decision. Also remember, you get to a point like in many things, where "IT'S GOOD ENOUGH" Next time I'm in Europe< I'll try to pop in, and visit you.
Hello and first of all a great video, of course the others too. (of course I subscribed to you) I have Eversolo Master and a Gato Audio AMP 150 with Dynaudio contour 20i and the sound is sensational... I compared the Rosé 250 a with the Master Edition, I have to admit that the Master Edition was a tick for me better…. That's a matter of taste, but as I said, everyone hears differently.
Good morning and thank you for the message and for subscribing to our channel :) As I say in the video, the test proves beyond all doubt that they are all good for the money and then it really comes down to personal taste :) Cheers, Mark
@@EliteAudioUK Thanks Mark. I notice you have them up for sale but unfortunately I'm not in the market for speakers at the mo but they look very nice !
In some way it is partly real, the quality and ease of the app, the internal DAC it has, etc etc etc, the eversolo app is horrible, the ifi audio app is bad, volumio is simple,
And all the streamers sound exactly the same without a internal DAC since they are just TRANSPORTERS so don't get confused, the difference is the DAC and the ease of connection and use and obvious aesthetics. 🤡🤡🤡

If you use USB it will be exactly the same for all of them. If you want to be picky get a DDC with the best clock and it will "beat" any one of this.
