Hans I noticed in the setup 1b picture/layout a glimpse of the cyan2. Did you use it as the DAC, though you didn't mention? Is it as a DAC better than DAC inside the Volumio Motivo?
I recently upgraded from the Wiim Pro, fed via an LPS, to the Volumio Rivo. I use the same LPS for the Rivo. Rivo feeds into the Gustard R26 via USB cable. I use Tidal via Roon. I am so happy with this combo. This is definitely an upgrade from the Wiim in every aspect. The thing that stands out the most is the reduction in sibilance and much smoother but detailed highs. What a great time to be an audiophile. So many good options out there. Hans, thank you for all that you do! You make being and audiophile a lot more fun.
@@DavidLinde-i9n i remember that you said that the Rivo was only a "fair value" as a transport. maybe Volumio will up their game with their Rivo and include i2s?
Thanks a lot for this review. Thinking to get the Arcam A25 as the amp, I am on the selection of the streamer now. Except for the convenience of the screen of course, how would you rate the performance and sound quality of the Motivo vs the ST5 and the BlueNode 2i (aiming reference 2b-2c level) ? Thank you !
Wow, was not expecting such a positive review! So this has a screen, headphone amp etc and, as a transport, is better than the Rivo. And buying an external power supply actually makes it worse... I was about to get the Mano based on your reviews but now I need to take a hard look into this one.
I got the Mano Ultra MK3 with the upgrades (fuse and cable), but this is a more elegant streamer, and even though I will not use the dac, if it's as good as the Mano ....... hhhuuummm ;-)
@@larsv6144 I also have no use for most of it... headphone amp, dac and screen. But I can see a use for that screen in some different room arrangement. And it's still cheaper than your full specs Mano.
@@xstensl8823 I ended up buying one. It's waiting Roon certification which should be soon and you can control it through a phone/tablet app. Volumio app or webbrowser if you use it as a streamer, Roon, Audirvana etc app if you use it as a transport.
Excellent review Hans , I must say it even though it is expected as the audiophile knowledge is appreciated. I connect to higher current lab grade power supplies with almost no noise and get the best sound in 40 years of the hobby.

my impression is, normally the standby mode for volumio is same as shut down, and can't turn on quickly, I don't know how this unit does it from standby to quick wake up.
Sorry but don't see the point of the touchscreen..you want control from your listening seat which is the tablet or handset? Its like having a cd player you have to get up and press a button to play next track etc. This goes for all streamers not just this one.
As said in the video you can also control it from a smartphone, tablet or computer. You can then set the screen on the Motivo to show the Now Playing screen. It seems to me best of both worlds.

Special thanks for evaluating it also as a transport!
👍🏼
Uncle Hans for the win! Glad Volumio made a product where I don't need a tablet...and I can just focus on the music
👍🏼
Interesting product. Thanks for the look inside.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for your work! 👌👍
My pleasure
If I may ask....using Volumio Motivo as a transport witch connection is better, USB or I2S ? Thank you for answer in advance.
@aaabbb2201 I prefer I²S
Thank you very much for answer.
Danke, Hans, für das interessante Video.

Thanks, very interesting streamer!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, of course
I really like the deep dive here of the internals. Can it display VU meters on the display? :)
Not that I know.
Thanks Hans for this review! As a transport, does the Motivo outmachted the Rivo? Regards, Jos
I didn't have the Rivo anymore so I can't compare. But I would say the Motivo is even slightly better.

Is it possible to connect a HDD to the USB and reach the music via Volumio and see graphics on Volumio?
Absolutely

don't need a screen, already have an excellent DAC, is it Roon ready and can it be controlled from my arm chair?

Love the idea of the product. Looks like there is no Apple Music available on the device outside of airplay though.
That's Apple for you

You should always choose the best power supply for the job. And that can be a linear type of quality or a switch mode type of quality

I commonly stream from my desk setup to headphones. I would never buy a streamer without a touch screen. I’m def not alone in this.
