I found a dollar on a parking lot once, I said to my friend "look I just doubled my net worth"...They laughed, I was being serious!
I’m a graphic designer and was making $1,600/mo working full-time 40hrs a week. I decided I can go solo, so now I make $5.1K/month gross working much less (2-4hrs a day) and making much more than my full-time job did. Take your current skills and monetize it 👏🏼💯
Hell. Yes. THIS is what I’m talking about!!! 🙌🏼
02:44 - "Under no circumstances should you feel any sort of loyalty to a company who is deliberately underpaying you". *CORRECTION: "Under no circumstances should you feel any sort of loyalty to a company."*
On a certain scale, loyalty is still rewarded. Find a different company.
@@beanzbeanz Loyalty isn't rewarded, but keeping a necessary worker, is worth them paying more.
Yea I increased my hourly rate by 50% by switching companies. You don't owe anyone anything especially a job. They will use reverse psychology by using your loyalty to justify why they can't increase your income to keep up with inflation
Well, the older generations got better deals in the past like pension funds etc. Loyalty to your company and vice versa is a thing of the past. So it depends on the company/organization and the era. My mom got a good paying job and a pension fund. So did my uncles and aunts. Unfortunately, my dad kept changing jobs so it was a different case for him. But that was their generation.
You can die for the company, but the company will never die for you. Keep that in mind. They lay you off without any hesitation despite of all kinds of achievements you have done in the past. Like Nicole mentioned, leave for a better paying job but don't burn your bridges. They will hire someone inexperienced to do the same job you are doing and pay them higher but refuses to give you the raise you deserve. Company loyalty does not exist (well hardly), so instead of thinking you are doing the company a favor, think about your (and family's) own well-being first. Good talking points Nicole!
This is one of the best financial/life improvement accounts on UA-cam. No hiding behind high production value, no clickbait, just great ideas and information.
50 years old from Australia. Was retrenched last year. I am a passionate collector of Sci fi and horror memorabilia. Now I sell on ebay. Working for the man is for the birds!
CRIKEY!!!
I'm amazed to hear that anyone can make a significant income in that market on an individual scale anymore.
@@beanzbeanz
The movie industry does. For myself, I regularly check to see if Andy Weir has a new book out
Good on you!!
My husband went through the plumber apprenticeship program 25 yrs ago. He has owned his business for 21 yrs. My son chose the electrical apprenticeship. Hes on a list, and it moves fast.
Apprenticeships here in Oregon, will start you out at 40% of the journeymans wage, with 6 month raises, until you turn out at about 4 yrs. Most employers will pay for their schooling, and will guarantee them a job after they become a journeyman.
Excellent program!
An old Dad joke: double your money by folding it in half. You are spot on with this video. In engineering, to get a raise you had to change jobs. It was stupid but, that is the modern management theory. As a senior and very experienced engineer I disliked changing jobs but it was necessary. In one case I was terminated to get a younger(and cheaper) engineer to replace me. He wasn't even licensed. The place closed within 2 years.
A penny saved is a penny and a half earned because of taxes.
I need a new truck but the new ones are $60,000, ugly, and unreliable. This summer, I will restore my 1985 Chevy C-10 for about $2000 and 600 to 800 hours of my time. I am retired, have a fixed income, and can not afford the new price. Its been 25 years since I last restored a vehicle so, it should be good for me to do another one. Good Video. Good Luck, Rick
I’d take a C-10 over any of today’s truck offerings.
@@SharpBalisong I also have a 1955 3600 to do later. Good Luck, Rick
Good luck on the rebuild, happy wrenching 🔧
The good thing is, now you've got youtube to help you do any of the work you might not know how to do--or to do it with more professionalism if you do. My son is learning auto mechanics with youtube videos, and his own car.
@@cariwaldick4898 I worked on cars starting in 1967. I restored muscle cars and english sports cars into the 1980s. I was working as a civil engineer. The auto work was a sideline. Your son will find that doing it right will save him a lot of money in the long run. He can save money by buying his tools used at swap meets for cars , trucks , and tractors. Many of the older tools are better made than the new tools. I still have my Husky and SK Wayne sockets sets from 50+ years ago. Collect manuals for autos too.
If he is thinking of doing auto repairs for a career, he should watch the videos about how badly many dealerships and garages treat their mechanics. Working construction by day and restoring cars for yourself is a good way to get ahead. Good Luck, Rick
Since most noncompete agreements have recently been outlawed by the Supreme Court, starting your own business doing what you are currently doing for a larger company is more doable now than ever!
Noncompete agreements are mostly a bluff anyway. They can rarely be enforced except under very specific conditions.
came here to say exactly this.
@@johnharvey5412 It is a bluff if the company is small. Big companies/corporations will take legal action.
Most bosses/ business owners won't give you a raise and don't want you asking them for a raise..They'd rather hire someone elsewhere for the same pay when you move on
So move on 💅🏼
the only way to do it at cetain places is show them a comp offer from outside, some will tell you to pound sand but others will renegociate. Alot of factors come into play but make sure your ready to leave when doing this.
Places that I have worked were on a set scale for either job description or rank as in in my military career.
Work at Amazon. You'll get guaranteed raises every 6 months then every year. Maybe other warehouses do this as well.
@@tonyp9313 20 cents every 6 months?
Something to remember in the US is that when you freelance full-time you must pay for your own health insurance. Even a no-frills plan will be at least $500 a month.
You also have to pay both the employer and employee portion of the social security and medicare tax. (6.2% x 2 = 12.4%)
yep, a lot of the time in the US we really do "have to" work for a company which I think a lot of people in other countries don't fully grasp.
Not just in the US, it’s the same in most European countries, too. Governments don’t like small scale self employment.
@@eaglenoimoto Agree. Government loves to take and spend other people's money so they need taxpayers' money to continue their ponzi schemes and of course to fund their salaries, benefits, and pensions.
I'm currently unemployed and have no income. I've come here to double it.
EDIT: she changed the title. now my comment doesn't make any sense :(
😆 I also have zero income. I watch these videos because I like Nicole's delivery. ☺
Can you sell anything on eBay?
To double zero, I recommend sleeping or watching TV
Don't sell yourself short.... triple it!
Same.👍
Yes side hustle video
You mean second job video
1:14 I don't know if the employee & employer dynamic is different in Canada, but in the US during the 90's and early 00's, employees who asked for raises rather than waiting to get a raise got targeted by management for "termination" by getting reduced hours until hours were non-existent, forcing them to quit.... It could been starting as early as the 80's, but I'm too young to know for sure.
This created a corporate culture where employees no longer wanted to ask for raises because they didn't want to find another job.
I've been working on the decreasing the spending for awhile
Right on Nichole. I worked for the same company for 15 years, and when I left I learned my replacement was paid $10,000 per year more!!! All those years and all I got was a gold filled service pin every five years. But the 401k and medical was great. But I should have asked for more along the way, or job hopped.
Depending on the type of business you start you might need a lawyer, an accountant, licenses, and spend money on advertising. When I was in business the government and insurance companies took the 1st 50% of what I made. Still it was one of the best things that I did, it took me places that I wouldn't have dreamed possible.
Smart and charismatic too! That's an unusual combination, Nicole, and you have it in spades!
You are young, smart and beautiful. Keep up the good work.👍
Would love to hear about all the side hustles you did or are doing. Thanks, for the great video!
Record everything you do above and beyond the call of duty daily. This list will come in handy when you ask for a raise. A penny saved is worth more than a penny earned because you will pay taxes on the penny earned.
1:15 ... "A raise of $1.00 per hour will put an extra $2000 in your pocket." Oh, you don't pay taxes in Canada? Here in the USA, an extra 2K might put merely an extra $1400 into my pocket.
Sunday excellence, as always..Thank you, Nicole.🙏
Yes, I would like to hear about your other gigs if you feel like sharing
What you say is true. I worked for a good company who gave good raises (4 -10%), yet still when I left after 24 years I got a 40% bump.
I work for a company that gives very similar, good raises annually but at the 5 year mark I asked for more and got a raise of 30% mid-year then still 3% COL. I work for a smallish company. Some of my friends - especially those working in very well known companies or hospitals (USA) make ridiculously low wages and still act like they are "lucky" to have jobs working for their companies. I will never understand that! I'd rather be earning serious money and working for a company few people have heard of, makes no difference to me!
Keep those vids coming kiddo. love your vids cause i learn something every time i watch. 😉
Love your videos, please keep going
Thank you!
Certification is also an option, which I am working on it. :)
This is a difficult one to do, but will help you out in a lot of ways for your whole life if you can accomplish it: unionize! Union jobs pay more on average and have drastically better benefits, job security, and much more. In the US, it's a federally protected right to organize, so if your boss retaliates then you get to sue, and a lot of employment attorneys only charge you money when/if they win.
You are just great, keep going
I got a raise this year after taking over another person's duties - said person left the company late last year.
Thanks Nicole.
You must be doing something right cause I'm starting to see more crazy or sarcastic questions, lol. Keep it up Nicole. As someone who is also frugal and don't really care how my place is decorated, or lack there of, kudos to you:) I'm good with my regular job but love the ability to run two YT channels, this one being a faceless channel to help educate more people about frugality and saving money. I also wrote a book of the same name. I guess some people would call them side hustles, but it's always been a passion to make videos and to write. Thank you for another great video! 🙂
Such great information !
I pretty much live off side hustles now. It's completely changed my financial future. :)
YES to the side-hustle review.
You are sharing value added wisdom. I have no doubt you have changed some lives for the good.
U brought up some really great points.
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION (UNIQUE), AND IT'S FUN WATCHING YOU GROW SO MUCH MORE POISED AND SELF-ASSURED!
Sage advice.
Yyes to the side hustle video 2❤
Please do a video on the side jobs you have done. Love your channel.
Everybody has different goals. I've _left_ companies because they wanted to promote me to management and weren't going to take no for an answer. Unfortunately I agree that job hopping boosts salary. I didn't intentionally job hop but after I left one company (because of a threatened management promotion) I went to a startup that folded after a year, then I went to another startup that folded in a couple years - then I went back to the original company that in the meantime had been bought by a large corporation. I bumped up my salary by $20K on each move. I left the first company at $30K and came back 3 years later at $90K. No way in the world would I have gotten raises more than 2-3% a year if I'd stayed. That move by itself had more to do with me getting ahead financially than all the hard work and side gigs I've done my whole life.
I would love to hear about all your previous side hustle experiences
Great video! 🙂
Rating side hustles sounds fun! Please do! 🙏
I’m interested in your previous side hustles. I’ve,cleaned houses, flipped furniture, dog sit, house sit and granny sit.
I'd LOVE to see a video of the side hustles you've done. That would be incredibly helpful!
You got it!
Yes! Your side hustle journey would be a great one
Yes please to your side hustle bio as a video :)
Yes, please, a video on sidehustles you did
I'm here bc she does the presentations so well. 🙂
If considering quitting a job to start a business full time, you need to calculate lost pension/rrsp matching contributions, loss of benefits etc to determine the big picture income your business has to produce where applicable. I know not everyone has benefits and the like, but for those that do, it isn't about replacing your hourly range, it's about replacing your total compensation. Being on the hook for all your prescriptions or dental can be sticker shock if you have always had benefits. Not taking into account an annual bonus might throw your budget for a loop, so remember to look at big picture relating to income from a job.
The majority of jobs in Canada don't even offer any of those benefits or they're seriously lacking in what they do offer anyway
Yes on the video on side hustles and rating them.
Would definitely watch a video of you rating the side hustles you've done.
wishing u all the best, madam dog! :)
A penny saved is worth much more than a penny earned: You don't have to pay income tax on the penny you saved, and you don't have to pay sales taxes on the penny you didn't spend.
Would love to watch a video on your side hustle history 😊
Nicole is such a guru at what she does.
Very interested in hearing of your past side hustles.
I had full intentions of pushing items on Marketplace now that I am past 65 to make extra income ( I call it gas money ) but in the last year or so I am finding that I get the usual "Do you still have it" then nothing else. So I get I'll have to make new plans. Hope you don't get that BS when selling on Marketplace or wherever.
Yes! Tell us about SIDE HUSTLES!
1. ask a raise
2. switch job
3. invest with moomoo (link in the description)
4. decrease your expenditure
5. start a business
6. side hustle
I dont bother to find the missing one.
the missing one is the most important one!

I hope mint moble comes to Canada soon
Id love to see a side hustle video from you!!
Combining #1 and #3: if you’re doing a dreary job in a large organization quite a bit of the time there are opportunities that don’t have anything to do with the dreaded middle management track. Technical positions, small specialty departments, things like that, which sometimes have aptitude tests and sometimes just have a simple interview process. I’m actually taking an aptitude test this week and if I pass I’ll get technical training in house, GET PAID to do it, and unlike every other job skill I’ve learned in my current position I could actually take this knowledge to another company or even strike out on my own someday. Fingers crossed
I love how you challenged the boomer mythology of company loyalty. Layoffs can have little or no notice (at least not direct, but perhaps rumors or signs of business slowing down) while they expect two week's notice before quitting.
I'd be interested in hearing about your side hustles. ❤
goes to show that high education is no guarantee of success or intelligence. you have more of both than many highly educated people....
currently (34) and actively looking to half my salary from 128k to mid 60k. Done chasing the carrot on the stick. I wasted many years chasing status, just for me to want to slow down and actually enjoy THE PRESENT. I am not getting any luck, and am told I am over qualified for the positions. If you are someone reading this, and you make 30-40k, then yes, I implore you to double that, but take it from me and many thousands of others, after about 75k, you wont be any happier, and you will just miss the "simpler" times.
You may not feel special with what you've done with money, but it was a very good money management method
Interested in listening to your past side hustles.
I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not but I really appreciate how much slower you’re speaking in this video.😊
I'm trying 😆
Yes I would like to see a side hustle video. I need ones that dont require a license since I am half blind.

Good video Nicole...have a great day sweet girl.
I would like to see a video of every side hustle you've done.
I’d like to see a video about your side hustles
Unfortunately, I'm a VERY mediocre worker and I'm not about to get better at this age so asking for more money.... I'd just feel too guilty!🤣
Great video Nicole! To double my income, I did a combination of a few things that you mentioned, I went back to school to get myself a higher education, which landed me a good paying job, I have my Side hustle, i drive for Ubereats part-time and make about $500 per week, i also purchased a couple high quality JBL bluetooth party speakers which i rent out on facebook market for $50/each per day (mostly on weekend) and i do get customers because it’s cheaper to rent from me than going to a store like Long and McQuade
I left a company 1 year ago, and now i was paid 10 more per hour. I didn't think i got that much more. I just didn't like the company and the situation at the time. I will keep my best to jump every 2 years.
Yep let's see the side hustle video
My side hustle extra job that I do 2 days a week earns only $200 less/week than my 4 day/week regular job. BUT I enjoy my 4 day a week job better 🙂
I wonder if Globex is hiring. I want to work for Hank Scorpio!
I just got a raise. I asked for it, and actually got a bit more than I asked for. 😉
I like the meme going around which said to change jobs frequently, but do it in a way where you are learning skills in your current job that can help you get a higher paying job. It seems so obvious but I never really thought about it before. Maybe now I'm older and have to pay bills, I actually care about work and earning more and more money.
Another video of saving your money lol. Cool. Yeah very good points you made. I work at Amazon so my raises are every 6 months. Then I think they give me a raise every year. Anyways it's a lot of money because I compared it to my friend's work. Every other job I had 0 raises & like you said you have to ask for it. Cutting down on expenses is one I do for my hobbies etc. I liked the video........ Make a Video about when you grew up as a kid in the 90's & 2000's vs kids of today.
Back in the day, I use to do hair on the side, which I’ll never do again, lol. I am really trying to build my freelance writing business but no clients yet…
Is Mint mobile available in Canada?
"Penny saved, penny earned". I (over)think this adage goes beyond simply not spending that penny. If one produces something, instead of purchasing it, they save the penny but they worked to produce the item. Therefore its earned. For example, if you plant and harvest microgreens you can stop purchasing vitamins.
When I have worked in the right places, my income growth was impressive without me asking for a raise. At the wrong places; not so much.
Why didn't I stick with the right places? Mergers and Acquisitions with MBA type new management teams turned them into wrong places.
so yep, i went to university (the military paid for me to attend and graduate while i was active duty)... took formal logic in the philosophy department and guess what ?... it's pretty much the same as reading an electrical diagram schematic ... so if you learn how to become an electrician then you'll probably be able to understand logic analysis better than you'd get with a university degree (plus you'll still have your common sense that university will rob you of)
"Common sense" often means an arrogant, sterile lack of creativity by people who don't appreciate that the most efficient brain isn't superior. Its just efficient.
I only made $1.95/hr. at my first job in '77. A ride attendant at Six Flags St. Louis. Then I heard Globex Corporation was hiring. That put me on the fast track to success! 😂
Make your side hussle video!
I wish i could ask for a raise but as a hospital nurse the union/ government dictate our wages
The movie Lord of War was a how to guide to make money, lots of it
Canadian money looks really similar to Vietnamese money. That plasticy feel and the clear, transparent spots. Also feels like if you accidentally leave it in your jeans and wash them they’ll dissolve.
I'm so glad to see a female in this space. You give great advice.
Your own business requires licensing fees, fed tax registration, INSURANCE, and legal fees . . . that you don't have to worry about when you work for Best Buy. Nothing turns into a whole lot of something.
All that is MORE than worth it if you can 5x your income as a result.
@@AccordingtoNicole Until you are accused of some dastardly deed by one of your customers and you have to pay a lawyer to get you out. Insurance alone, is the biggest rip off there is. And your claim of 5x doesn't take into account the expense incurred . . . because 5x is an unrealistic claim.
