CORRECTION: We do NOT have a "value-added" tax in America, so only the end consumer pays sales tax. But, she's right about our healthcare system, it is a giant scam. Our politicians have allowed insurance companies to rip us off for decades. Insurance companies don't even add any value to our economy! They are completely unnecessary yet extort hundreds of dollars a month out of most households. Arguably the largest scam in all of America.

I was born in the mid-late 70s and was out playing on the streets for most of the 80s and some of the early 90s. I rode my bike all over the city for miles and hung out with the other kids, got into a few scuffles too and did things they would petrify your parents (like jumping between building across roof!!!😬) - it really built our resilience and kept us fit - anyway, I did have an 8-bit computer back then but obviously before the 90s they were not connected to the internet so it didn't draw you in as much. I've made sure my own kids were/are in as many clubs as possible because I knew pretty well, early into the 2000s, where this was all going. My daughter does actually go out on her bike sometimes to the park with some of her friends but it difficult because other kids just don't go out for her to meet, nothing like we did. Unfortunately, the internet has become the new third place. Just look at how obesity levels and all all the other health and neurological disorders have increased and how it is going to skyrocket even more in the next 30 years simply because of the factor that kids and young adult don't get out of the house as much. I've never known so many kids and teens that are as anxious, stressed and depressed as today. I'm not saying it never happened back when I was growing up but most definitely not to the levels we see now. When you constantly ask kids in school about their anxiety (when they don't really have any), you can actually start them to see something that is not there.

As a staunch advocate of videogames needing to be treated the same way we treat books, movies and music, I was a bit disappointed by your statement around videogames. They're an escape, and necessary in a world where kids/teens are punished frequently for being outside. How often do you hear of "karens" phoning the police on groups of boys for being outside and not doing anything wrong? Not to mention how much worse it is for women in general, people of colour and other marginalised people to exist in public spaces safely. I think you raise some very valid points around how different the world is now compared to how we (33 years old here) grew up versus kids now, but I don't think the media or options we have are to blame for the lack of third spaces. I believe it comes down to the public perception of what younger people are doing as well as the socio political and economic factors you mentioned in the video. TLDR I believe the lack of third spaces is the reason more people are locked in on their devices and other forms of escapist media, not the other way around and there are many more factors in play that affect this also.Hopefully this makes sense. I really enjoyed the video and topic (new here) and I hope this comment doesn't come across as an attack or a knee jerk response. I truthfully would love to hear what you think of what I've written.

This so-called overpopulation issue makes me wonder why governments in first world countries worry about their population having this below replacement concern so they get migrant workers or even allow certain migrants in but who don't work and just go on welfare. I think it is not really overpopulation but densely populated areas vs dying communities.

Well, my deceased dad's Levi's jeans were so well-made and thick that it withstood the test of time. It never got torn. I guess, Levi's did produce quality jeans in the long long past. My dad was born in 1940 so one could guess how old those jeans were when my dad passed them on to me in the 1990s.. Had to donate them later on because I got tired of them even though, they were still going strong LOL.

Totally agree with you. I go out for plain Coffee and a freshly made Cranberry Oatmeal Muffin most mornings, because I need to get out of my apartment and speak with other Humans. This is a mental health necessity. It's a small family-owned Café and I do tip - modestly - when there's a hired college student batista. Otherwise I rarely eat out - maybe once every 2 months. I tip around 15%. I do notice Tip Jars almost everywhere - grocery stores, bakeries, dry cleaners...everywhere. I just ignore it.

A lot of truth in this video. I follow some financial advice that suggests having as little to no debt as reasonably possible, while living a lifestyle that's sustainable if I unexpectedly lost my job and had to live on a substantially smaller income. I also keep an emergency fund of 6 months living expenses, and in the next couple years I should be able to start maxing out my retirement contributions. It's certainly not to say that I'm a mizer when it comes to money, cause I'm not, but I don't buy brand new high end cars, import furniture, designer clothes, and eat steak and fresh seafood all week long. As you said, the feeling of having money to cover whatever I need is 10 times more comforting than having a brand new X6M in the driveway.

I am 72. I have a number of degrees. I had zero social life in college. It was STRESS. I attended no parties, no games. It was WORK. I was shocked in my 50s when I woke up to the reality that people have fun in college. I never understood about Spring break. I didn't drink, drug, ever miss a class. Talk about nose to the grind. I worked to pay for college and spent all my time trying to get an A. No fun weekends. Shear bondage. You are a very intelligent, well spoken young lady; an exemplary communicator. Clearly, you'd have excelled academically. It is impossible to not wonder what it would have been like to go to college if you never went. I wonder all the time, what my life would have been like had I not gone. I imagine I'd have worked 2 or 3 full time jobs and had O.T., bonuses, raises, and 401 Ks. No homework. Meet and befriend co-workers and patrons. Life, I imagine would have been a breeze compared to the demoralizing career I so naively chose. I'll never know. I became a teacher and very seldom worked less than a 17 hour day, usually at the school, then more homework at home. My salary was pathetic. You talk about a scam. SCHOOL IS A SCAM! It is politics and the #1 concern is their wallets. # 2 is their wallets, too. DO NOT GET SUED! I was so idealistic. Quite the fool. I was very handsome, smart, witty and talented. Children benefitted, but I went unknown, unappreciated, and abused, as well. Bummer! I enjoy listening to you. You're brilliant and outspoken. I was very smart and way too polite and censored. Regrets are inevitable. I regret going to college, my useless degrees, choosing a job that demoralized me every day of my life and left me with no choice but do be frugal in my later years. When I watch and listen to you, I feel more liberated. You are refreshing, entertaining and informative with many spot insights. Even your views that are not my own are trumped by how well expressed they are and enjoyable you are. You give very sound advice. Your example is inspiring. I didnt know about podcasts and UA-cam until recently. I'd have thrived, be it my own candor, humor, art or comedy. I am happy you found your sweetspot. Re your topic, herein. I bought a dump of a house at age 27. I poured virtually e ery penny I eaned into it. When " friends" were going places. I was either working on the house or doing homework as a teacher. Again, was it good to be a house owner? Idk. I'm happy you're a minimalist. I'm hoping to be which means donating thousands and thousands of dollars worth of things I wasted life shopping, lugging and storing. Good news. Although my finan ial belt is tighter than I'd like. I have not enjoyed life. I go nowhere but gym, stores and home...I own my home and 2014 Kia soul with 82,000 miles on it. Never in my life have I payed interest on a credit card. I did buy two cars in my life with loans and most of the houses I lived in were mortgaged. I was 53 the first time I bought a condo in cash and have once more when I purchased my current condo. Thetes a topic for you. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY PAYING HOAs. Thrive! You are earning it. Plus, every decent human deserves it!

I had a conversation similar to this a few years ago - I hold the view that as we move closer and closer to automation we're undergoing a paradigm shift where we're going to have to force ourselves to be outside more often because we want to. our work lives will increasingly become more and more remote instead of the office where we might congregate and make friends, and by extension encourage us to socialise. Technology is rewiring our brains in a way I don't think any of us really anticipated. I've been addressing the problem - I rely on tactile sensation when reading books, I've disconnected from social media in favour of opting to pick up the phone or simply drive to a friend's house to take them out for a sandwich.

That was very informative, but i love Affirm. Ive used it to pay off a $1200 E-bike and $1400 refrigerator. I prefer the small mothly payments on large purchases.

9:50 I felt that deep in my soul. “If someone were mean to him I would have to dispose of a body.” My kids are grown and yes I have grandchildren, but they live with their parents, and I don’t get to see them daily. So therefore my dogs are extremely loved and cared for by me, just like my children and grandchildren.

Interestingly enough, some careers do require that one project a certain aura of success; life insurance sales, personal injury attorney, stock broker, real estate sales and others professional sales careers.

Installment payments are a thing for as long as credit cards exist in Brazil. I believe that here if installment payments didn't exist, our economy would collapse because almost no one would be able to afford anything upfront.

Being a Boomer, who is a few weeks away from his 65th Birthday, I am somewhat offended by lumping all of us into one basket. As much as I find some of your topics interesting, as it gives me a perspective on the generations who are coming after me. I never had children of my own, so I do my best to mentor people, especially younger people, as I have had some amazing people offer me intelligent guidance and are responsible for the amazing ride that I have had. I am also non-judgmental as everyone has to choose their own path and their decisions, whether good or bad are really up to them and the are the ones who have to deal with the consequences. Eventually, you will develop some real maturity but, until then, I will pass on your "wisdom". Good luck in your endeavours.

Learned helplessness established. to a large degree, during the man-made pandemic. The less solidarity we have as a people, the less of a resistance we will be able to mount to the consolidation of corporate globalist power. And isolation is a killer, increasing incidences of dementia, increasing addiction, etc. We need to re-establish third places and undo the division engineered into our culture.

I was raised in a frugal family and took over that lifestyles. We always had enough for emergencies. Last couple of years my paycheck increased substantially. I invest most of that money in upgrading and renovating the house I own. Got some mortgages on it, but the house roughly doubled in value because of the investments. I buy more expensive clothes and so on, but except for the mortgages I owe nothing to anyone. If salary decreases for a reason, I'm sure that I will be able to downgrade back to less expensive clothes, food etc without problems. I have several Excel sheets which record every cent that comes in and goes out. I can foresee if I can spend more or less on extras before the month starts, since I can make a forecast every month. By the way, the reason for buying the expensive clothes is related to my job. They expect me to look professional for the clients. Enough said. Thanks for your valuable tips, Nicole!
