    Dad was. Their mom had only been dead a few years when this aired (1990). Not flippant about her at all, they love their mom very much. Dad made many bad business decisions & investments & lost it all while burning bridges in the music industry for his kids future in music. They worked their butts off and are still all playing together as The Cowsills, individually or with others. They've recorded for many artists. Talented musicians. Should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

    Susan Cowsill was so cute as that little, 8 year old girl, singing with her family on the television show, banging on her tambourine out of beat with the singing. Yet she sang with all her heart. She grew up to be a pretty woman.

    Their father was an abusive tyrant and the boys don't sing his praises today. Susan tries to gloss over it but as the only girl & the youngest she probably had a somewhat different experience growing up. The oldest boys especially endured far too much before she was even born. Very talented family with a sad story similar to that of the Jackson Family.

    • @1401minstrel
      @1401minstrel 11 місяців тому +1

      Susan had a WAY different, but just as frightening, experience of her father when she was growing up. In the documentary she says that her father attempted to sexually abuse her when she was 11 years old. Exactly the age she was in this video. The solution was not for mom Barbara to leave and take Susan, John and Barry (the only children living at home at the time) with her. Or to kick Bud out of the house. No. The solution was to make Susan leave and go to live with her brother Paul and his wife and family. Paul and his wife raised Susan from that time on.

      I am a huge Cowsills fan. But the negative comments come from the fact that the Cowsills in this interview (with the exception of Susan and somewhat Bob) where totally chaotic and out of control. They weren't funny at all, acted as high as kites, and the who thing was very cringe-worthy. I can understand not wanting, at this point, to totally trash their dad. But to make him sound like father of the year was going to the other extreme. Joan was asking some of the most stupid and insensitive questions. It was clear she came to the show woefully unprepared and lacks basic social skills. Again, I love these guys, but this interview was one of the worst I've ever seen. An absolute train wreck. Sad and hard to watch, smh.

    Sounds like what a very close, protective family does when they're nervous...they start doing smokescreening "schtick" with each other. Since they weren't ready to talk about their mutual problem (their family dysfunction), they're being the ol' kid performers...bouncing off each other just like the kids they used to be. Full of energy but still full of strange, childish energies they haven't started to exorcise yet.

      On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the city of New Orleans. Cowsill, who chose not to evacuate, weathered the storm in an abandoned warehouse.[6] Cowsill survived the storm but was in need of help. He called his sister Susan from a pay phone (Susan also lived in New Orleans with her family but chose to evacuate) and left four voice mail messages saying he was surrounded by looters and people shooting. Susan Cowsill did not receive the messages until September 2.[7] Cowsill was never heard from again.[3] After an extensive search, Cowsill's body was found under a wharf on the Mississippi River on December 28, 2005.[7][8] His body was subsequently identified by comparison to dental records.[4] Cowsill's death was attributed to drowning as a result of the flooding following Hurricane Katrina.

    revealing, but akward. Joan didn't do basic homework (but they knew this...) it's why
    the subjects are covered quickly or superficially. Joanie is a well-intentioned klutz.
    The Cowsills are a family of professionals before their time. Had someone actually
    been able to explain to them (as children) the nature of 'show biz', they might have paced themselves just a bit. Y'know, instead of accepting gigs at the playboy
    mansion w/ Heff. How grotesquely inappropriate is THAT? Cowsills are still great.

I feel sorry for them, even though they have such a gift. It seems that they are far more at peace today than at this time. Joan asked reasonable questions, but for a family who was used to covering up the bad stuff, this was the norm. I can't fault Joan for what we now know as awful home life and bad business. God Bless all of them and I hope they know just how much people care about them. The people here are trying to protect them by jumping all over Joan.
