I've got myself the yellow CasiOak too, and I am very happy with it. It looks fun, like a plastic kid's toy, but with shock resistance, 200 m WR, bluetooth and tough solar it surely is not. And I've got it for under 100 EUR from my local supplier. A fantastic summer watch. Great choice, Jody!
I'm 68, retired, and wear my yellow CasiOak daily, and to bed, too! I've had mine since January! Love it!! But..... I now have a hanker'n for another mechanical!! lol! Oh! I don't look at it as what's for summer, winter, etc,,,, It's cold here, and I'm wearin' my CasioOak! 😂🍻👍
Jody, you can have more than one G with the same module connected to the app. At least that is the case in the EU. I have three GW-B5600s connected in the app, named by the colours and everything works as it should. Lovely new square, always loved the purple and green combination on a G.
I wear a standard CasiOak all week Jody for work. I bought the same yellow one back over Xmas/New Year. A great splash of colour over summer. Initially I couldn’t get the suitable app for it, as it hadn’t launched, which surprised me. But as soon as it was available, the connect was as easy as you showed. One can never have too many G Shocks!🤤😍👍🏼
I just bought my 86 year old mum her first G-Shock. It's a Baby G in rose gold with Solar and Blutooth, the MSG-B100DG-9AER. She wanted something that didn't need battery changes, and didn't need the time changing ever. So, I installed the app on her iPhone, and we both marvelled at the hands moving when it synched. One is also never too old to have a G-Shock!

Hmmm, if you're in search of a touch of colour and you like yellow but you don't feel like a 20yo streamer, keep an eye on the Casio ga-2000-1a9er. I was doubtful on it, but when I've put that on the wrist I've found it fits PERFECTLY, both serious and not too serious. The coloured hollow hands over the dark display looks simply like an eye catcher. The two little lcd's are not so legible (same as the CasioOaks, btw), and you don't have the Bluetooth, BUT... but take a look at it, and how good it sits on the wrist! Plus, you don't have cold metal on the skin, and the strap... the strap is so beautiful! Keep it in mind for a future unboxing, and I say it as a not-so-big-lover of ana-digi watches.
I have a wide and varied collection from a Casio AE-1200 to a Patek, but my go to that I wear most often are one of my 3 square G-Shocks. They are IMO, the best all around everyday grab and go pieces. My base standard for when I want a beater and not worry, my all metal G always goes with me on holiday and my GMW-B5000TVA-1 Titanium when I want to show off my G-shock nerdiness (is that a word?)

I'm trying to go in reverse on collecting, and have realised that m IF I could only have two, they'd be the Sinn 104 I St Sa, an outstanding mechanical automatic hybrid price, and the GW5000U-1JF, a similarly outstanding solar/atomic self-sufficient all-everything digital number. Those two could be worn anywhere, for years, and be right at home. Anything more is just extra. Anything less would be uncivilized!
I bought the 90s retro 5600 in 2021. I love that acid puple negative screen. I wear it in my adventures and sport endeavors. The Bluetooth is so convenient.
I got the retro one last week as my daily work watch. Have a D1000B frogman and didn't want to beat it up yet. I actually have another square on the way from Japan. 😬. GW-M5610U-2 (I think) negative display, navy type of colour.
I picked up the same 90's Square to set my other watches by and go to the gym with. Multi-band is nice to have in North America, and I don't need to have it connecting to my phone's Bluetooth.
Great acquisitions, Jody. While I'm not planning any big changes, I just received the Ladies model octagonal GMS2100. I like the smaller size on my 7 in. wrist. I find the normal GM2100 slightly large. Newsflash: I really like it. These G-Shocks are more fun than should be legally allowed.
Gotta love a G-Shock. I like the way that something relatively modern now has 40 years of history. Shoved a battery in one I bought mid 90s recently and great to see it fire up again.

I bought the yellow casioak, but changed the strap and case cover for an after market black with yellow letters to wear at work. Great watch and comfortable too
I bought the yellow one and then modded it with a black strap and black G-Shock shroud - I preferred the yellow indicator to the black version of this watch with a red indicator. I can always switch to yellow again if I want to. Good watch all round - once set don't bother with the app and just change time manually.

There is always room for just one more G-Shock watches. My 1st G-shock wasn't a square, neither was my second....etc. Then came the squares, my beloved 5610 that I bonded with during surgeries in hospital, the 5000 full metals(s) then a few 5600s. Some positive LCD and others negative. The positive ones are a lot more legible but the negatives look cool. Then came another, a GDB-200! Yes that uses another different Casio app. The display is the best of the lot by far and has some fitness stuff in it (that I don't use) but this one needs a battery full of sparks to work but misses out on a couple of functions as well. Anyway I digress. Choosing a single G-Shock? for me it would be the 5610, it's accurate, does not need yet another app and being solar it should outlast me. Did I mention they are all very robust?
If they would sell the GAB2100 in a light red or strong orange with red oder orange indices I would by one. But the yellow one is for me a bit too much. All the other versions have a bad legibility.
Never had much interest in G Shock, but after watching this video I went out and bought the yellow one featured here. I love it, cool watch and something different in the collection!
I've got a decade on you or thereabouts with a few more grey hairs & rock a few yellow watches. For whatever reason, they are the ones that seem to attract compliments, including my yellow Casi-oak. Got it from my local dealer after your first review so glad you have picked one up. Have fun with it & the matching shorts no doubt!
I too am a fan of Bluetooth in G-Shocks but I don't like that in the CasiOaks they replaced the subdial's function - I prefer the day of the week, it gives it a more watch like facade instead of getting closer into computer device thing territory.
Very nice, I have that same square and I really like it. From a distance it looks pretty subtle and then up close you really see those snazzy 90's accents.
Excited by the yellow 2100 (I dislike the Oak moniker) - my only disuassion for this is the band, similar to white bands - would pick up lots of marks if used as a beater. The squares are a home run every time.
I wanna get one of the Solar Casioaks one day. I went with the Virtual World version of the standard casioak, still haven't found a colorway of the bluetooth one I love yet.
Love my Casioak GA-2100 and a GW-B5600 is currently top of my wishlist so this was a timely video for me, and that 90's retro square looks interesting, cheers.
If that black/ green G-SHOCK square is the GW-B5600MG-1, it does have multiband 6. It doesn't say it on the front, but it should say it on the caseback.
I like the yellow casioak too. I have been thinking about it for a while now. I have similar requirements too though, has to be solar but for me I prefer multi band 6 to bluetooth.
Dear Santa, I would love to see Casio make an Oak with a bigger PIM display along the full bottom semi circle (eyesight not great), and move the (GA B2100 style) Mode Indicator to the top left quadrant, and the CASIO to the top right quadrant, with Bluetooth and Solar. - oh and a vibration alarm (hearing not so good), plus in Darkish Grey with Orange Neon - perfection.
Those 5600’s are amazing. My next one will be a positive display, but the newer negative displays are far better than the early ones. When I need an accurate watch, G-Shock Squares are two of my go-to watches!
Gw-b5600 would be such agreat value for money series. Unfortunately Casio has not released a lot of positive display versions and availability here in Germany has always been bad.
Got the yellow one last year. I’m 72 oh how my son laughed, until I told him the logic. It’s a great travel watch, press two buttons and it swipes to local time but keeps home time too. But best of all when I’m wandering round some distant city on a night, who’s going to knock a silly old sod over the head for a yellow plastic watch!!
I put my yellow Oak on a black strap and that tones it down nicely. I needed to be able to wear it a lot since it's my favorite of all my Casioaks. Always the right time and extremely readable. Also do not like negative displays and that's also a plus

However, I strongly recommend you hop into your top-of-the-line merc and head back to the store where you bought these and purchase the GBD200 9D. Yes, the lime green one! Ignore the web based pics of these, the normal home screen looks nothing like those shown. Super legible LCD screen, large numbers for those of us who are getting on in years, bluetooth (you even get alerts for emails if you have are carrying your phone) it does the step thing and many more. Absolutely love this one!!!!! Not solar though, but that's fine. Don't take my word, go check them out (hey, it's only a few k's from your driveway........what's the harm?
I've got my eye on one of those GBD-200s after Mad Watch Collector showed one in a video. Love the look of that display. That was a blue one but I do rather like it in the green too :)
I bought the same black and yellow casioak last summer when it launched and now I barely wear any of my other watches. The fact it has solar charging was the main selling point as I know I won’t need a new battery every few years. I don’t mind bigger watches (I have a 50mm g shock) but the size of this one is perfect as it’s not too big but not as small as the classic Casio digital watches. I’m almost tempted to flog my other watches and just wear this one
Dunno why, but for some reason I just assumed Jody, you already had that same yellow one? As soon as it came out? Super nice, I wish they would have toned down the text on the bezel, make it just an engraved details rather than filled with black paint - other than that - a stunner!
Jody at one point I had two Bluetooth mudmasters, and I was able to get them both to work in the app. If I recall correctly, I just slightly changed the name of one of them. That was two years ago and the app may have changed.
I miss the day pointer subdial on the Bluetooth CasiOaks...to the point that I would not buy one...and instead put that money towards the 40th Anniversary metal CasiOak..

I have 8 to 9 Gshocks, about 3 with Bluetooth and solar and others use batteries. I like the Bluetooth better not having to set the time every time daylight savings time starts and ends. I have a couple casioks, they do wear much smaller than you would think and I forget they are on my wrist. I love them. Very tough, and very lightweight. I paid MSRP but not over MSRP.

Yeah I struggled when I initially reviewed them. They need to condense the apps though, not the best at the moment.

The GMW-B5600 is a total sleeper. It has the same module as the MRG squares!
Swapped the body from yellow to black. Now a bit more understated but with the clearer markers of the yellow model.

I wear my square-g for work! It involves a lot of grime and dust, bumping around in narrow hallways with heavy loads and plenty of doorknobs!
You can't go wrong with a Casio. That yellow one was a little too flashy for me, but the black one would be a daily wear for me.

You should take a look a the G-SHOCK G-LIDE GBX-100-1ER. Ok, it's not solar but really clear display. Lots of functions too and I got mine for £125!

That square is great. The 2100 is a bit meh: the screen is small and no lume, already sold it.
With respect to negative displays, I have found that Casios with Memory-in-Pixel negative displays are very easy to read in all lighting conditions.
I have the same 90's color model G, one I wear quite often.

Jody at one point I had two Bluetooth mudmasters, and I was able to get them both to work in the app. If I recall correctly, I just slightly changed the name of one of them. That was two years ago and the app may have changed.
It still works like that.

I miss the day pointer subdial on the Bluetooth CasiOaks...to the point that I would not buy one...and instead put that money towards the 40th Anniversary metal CasiOak..

I have 8 to 9 Gshocks, about 3 with Bluetooth and solar and others use batteries. I like the Bluetooth better not having to set the time every time daylight savings time starts and ends. I have a couple casioks, they do wear much smaller than you would think and I forget they are on my wrist. I love them. Very tough, and very lightweight. I paid MSRP but not over MSRP.
I've been debating on getting the yellow casioak or a white gwx-5600. Thanks to this video I might get both.
