Steve Burkum Cuz the average video game player is 31 years old as per the latest statistics? It's an old man hobby, get used to it. Kids should play with Hotwheels toy cars or something, games are for adults :)
It doesn't really matter what some people would say. The fact of the matter is that the average age of a gamer is over 30. It's not a matter of personal opinion.
cortster12 I own one and disagree. The controller is really obtuse and I often times forget that the right analogue stick is up while the buttons are down. Nintendo's bid to be unique is what will ultimately kill it. I'm all for being flighty and unique but there needs to be some semblance of grounded logic too.
The GameCube is seriously the most underrated system of all time. It had a lot better third party support than the Wii U does currently. It's a shame that it was looked down upon in it's generation. It had everything people are demanding Nintendo does for the NX. 1. On par graphically sit its rivals 2. Third party support (Minus GTA and certain others but still better than Wii and Wii u) 3. No gimmicks just a regular controller. So many good games on this system. Sunshine, Double Dash, Melee, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Resident Evil Remake, RE 4, Pikmin 1 and 2, Kirby's Air Ride, Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door, MGS: Twin Snakes, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, Viewtiful Joe, all of the Mario Sports titles, etc. Plus the Gameboy player! Allows GameCube to become fully backwards compatible with GB, GBC, and GBA. Playing all these handheld games on the big screen is amazing. As cool as the 3DS is, its a shame they can't do something like that today because of the two screens. I hope Nintendo does better with the NX, also crossing my fingers they think more SNES, N64 and GCN than Wii and Wii U when designing it.
Friedrich Nietzsche Yes, most everyone loves/praises it. Much more so than the GameCube. GCN was overshadowed by the PS2 and Xbox back then and today it isn't as well remembered and praised as other Nintendo systems like the N64 and SNES. In fact I've known people that dislike the GameCube but mostly never even owned or even played it. Most people that did have or play a GameCube look back on it fondly. Whereas the Dreamcast is praised constantly nowadays I believe partly due to the fact that SEGA no longer makes consoles anymore and it's admittedly good game library. Definitely wouldn't call it underrated anymore though. I wouldn't exactly call it overrated either though it's fanboys can be a little annoying when they say it is by far the best console ever. I personally would rate the GameCube above Dreamcast. Again Dreamcast is still a good system, though it is definitely not "The greatest console everrrrr!!!1" like some people claim or even the best SEGA console. Personally I think the Genesis is better.
Nintendo is more innovative and creative than Microsoft and Sony. I love my PS4, but random gun games with zombies or super good looking cars games are nothing compared to Nintendo's masterpieces.
17Haru17 They still continue to make amazing games, it's just the majority of console gamers and all PC gamers prefer graphics over everything else, so they ignore Wii U and it's great games.
Well if we're going to start generalizing, at least the other platforms don't have to go through drought periods for more installments in same old franchises
17Haru17 Mass effect 3? Strong narrative? is that all you care about? See thats the issue with most "gamers" now a days. They want narrative based games with little bit of guns thrown in there in 1080p.. then it gets 10/10 and perfect scores right? Thats getting old really fast. I played through the last of us, i liked it to tell you the truth, but i really didnt like that gameplay and exploring where almost nonexistent because of the narrative taking such a huge part of the game. You might as well just be binge watching a show on Netflix, because it's the same experience. In fact if any game comes out without the story spoon feed to the player, gamers get upset over the narrative not being strong enough and that the story is non existent or "sucks". It's like this generation of gamers just want their brain to turn off and them sit in front of a screen while pretty things dazzle them. I can tell you right now, the experiences that i've had with Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Metroid and Mario kart completely overshadow anything in the Last of Us. Why? The games i just mentioned entertain you by taking advantage of the media they are being displayed in. The Last of Us tries making a video game which depends on another form of media to shine, the Motion Picture. IF you where to take out the narrative to the last of us, the game would go from a 10/10 to a 4/10. In fact, if you try making a Zelda movie, it might turn out terrible since Zelda is made to be enjoyed as a video game. If the last of Us was turned into a movie, it would lose almost nothing in that transition. The point is, Nintendo makes better GAMES, everyone else mindless FPS and Interactive movies. 50 years from now people will remember Mario, but they wont remember the Last of Us, Mass effect or Shadow of Mordor. Simply because Nintendo made better games, in fact Nintendo might be the only in still making games 50 years into the future. Sony will probably go bankrupted and Microsoft will either just turn xbox into a streaming service or kill it all together (since they don't make that much money off of their Xbox division anyways, and shareholders have been wanting to kill xbox for years).
I can't argue on how great the SNES is. But N64 is my favourite. Games showed up on it that were beyond my dreams. Wii U is a hideously underrated machine too. Ignore this guy's opinion, yours is better.
I swear to god, the Gamecube is the most under rated console of Nintendo's history, easily better than the N64 in virtually every regard, because disregarding star fox and the Rare games (which are shit in my opinion) every game on the N64 had a superior sequel on the Gamecube. Also it had 2 pikmin games, 2 Metroid games, eternal darkness, Geist, Tales of symphonia, Viewtiful joe, Defender, Skies of arcadia, 3 Badass Zelda games, the entire Prince of Persia trilogy, Mario sunshine, Luigi's mansion, and 2 Star wars rogue squadron games.
TheAgentOfTheSystem I agree and it was more powerful than the PS2. I love the Game Cube I still own the games and luckily I own all Game Cube's best games. The problem with the Game Cube was fans prefer the PS2 and the shitty Xbox. While the PS2 did had better games and Xbox had Halo and great graphic games. I thought the Game Cube was underrated and unappreciated. Nintendo should of publish more games for the Mature rating because I though that was one of the reasons fans prefer the other consoles.
The Dude 7 I have to say, if the Gamecube had just had the ability to use Dvds, people would regard it as one of the greatest consoles period and undeniably. But when you have idiots like Reggie manning the helm, casualization was just bound to happen. And not to piss on Iwata's grave, but he should have not been the President of Nintendo. Now granted he made a lot of money thanks to the Wii and DS but that was a fluke, had that come at any other time in history those devices would have failed, and I say that because as much as I may like them I can see why others don't refer to the wii and ds as a gamers console, because it made money off the back of casuals, the bane of video games.
+TheAgentOfTheSystem I love the Gamecube as well. But Nintendo was aching without Rare. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Donkey Kong 6, made the N64.
+TheAgentOfTheSystem Don't forget that when you compare the game lineups that the GC had superior versions of the n64 Zelda games which are the n64's biggest games anyways.
I'm so lucky to have grown up with the SNES, the games are interesting and colourful, the soundtracks still evoke nostalgia with me even today, not to mention it's not something that could easily be broken! If I ever have kids, a SNES is what they're going to have.
Coltrane Howell im kindm of a classic person, i used to have a gameboy, but then i tried to sell it at a yard sale to get a ds lite, but the gameboy dissapeared, and now i have a 3ds
It's weird how they didn't count backwards compatibility, because it's one of the deciding factors when I buy a console. The fact that someone took the time and money to make it a part of a console is no worse than the console's ability to output better graphics or sound. This is why the 3DS and WiiU are probably the best Nintendo consoles right now, no matter how you look at them. With that combo you can play virtually any game without worrying about buying old hardware or fighting with ebay buyers on a used copy of Mario 64.
I agree with the placement of all the systems... Except for the GBA. The original Gameboy was an incredible system, yeah, but, like with the SNES, the GBA took everything great about the hardware and software of the original and made it even better.
Pea tear Griffin Why? It may not have the best online or processing power, but it has the best games, which it the only thing that should matter when choosing a console to buy
Wii U is the only console on the market. The rest are failed PC attempts. I was let down when the new consoles weren't 120fps and/or 4k gaming. Glad I got the PC Wii U master combo
@D core WTF is wrong with you. The GameCube Literally has one of the best game lineups for Nintendo, like Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda Windwaker, Mariokart Double Dash, and you cant forget Paper Mario Thousand-year Door. It should be rated like at least number 4 or 5. (I'm not angry at you or anything, and I know everybody has there own opinions, but you would be crazy to think that the GC is one of Nintendo's worst consoles.)
but it's true. The NES and SNES are timeless, the graphics aesthetically beautiful and the game library sensational. The 64 however, I disagree wit strongly, it has very few games of note and the graphics have held up very badly.
put this in perspective... how long can a game nowadays be look as the "best game ever"? one week? one month? one year? i mean, in todays generation, you forget about a game you hold dear in weeks... back then, a game would be considered the best, and thats it. the time that ppl would take to forget about such game was way longer than todays games... maybe they still hold such game as the best ever. i still think that super mario world is the best game i ever played... but i play and enjoy the gamaes of this generation... but they just seens... blank... even nintendos games... the super smash for wii u just seens like... it could have been better... it lacks so many features, so much potential... it's one of nintendos best franchises ever, and it feels like it is lacking a lot...
Neo noah really?! I feel like this Smash is the best. I feel like games are considered amazing back then because they "did something first" they laid the foundation. I personally think the best game I have ever played is a tie between Mario Galaxy 2 and the Metriod Prime Trilogy.(Yes, I know Metriod prime Trilogy is 3 games in one, but I usually play them back to back.) I think Tropical Freeze might be reaching to be my 3rd favorite game of all time. I played the game 4 times already in the span of a year. I feel like older consoles laid down the foundation of gaming and the games are good for that, but I like games starting from GameCube era to WiiU a little bit more.
Joshua Hernandez Uh, that's not the reason that the video gave for its choices at all. Did you watch muted? If that's the case then the original NES should have been listed as number 1.
Nostalgia and being the 1st aren't the only reasons, why the old consoles are "better". Imho another reason is simply that nowdays the videogame-industry is too big for its own good. Its not that the developers have no ideas (shown by a lot of indigames), its just too expensive and too risky to develop something new. So the developers go the safe route and make a battlefield-clone number 212837081(...but with a new hat), so there are very few new original ideas. In the old days it was all on a lot smaller scale, so that game companies could experiment with new ideas and give us so many good games.
I don't agree with ranking them base on when they were released. Like, the wii was the system with the most sold game (almost any piece of media!) ever! The 3DS was the first system yet and ever to offer pure 3D without the need of glasses and both of these have a huge and great list of games. Old is not always better. Ofc mario was created in the NES era but compare the first mario to mario glaxy 2. Just no.. please... I am not saying the old systems are not good, but the newest systems have much more to offer. Like seriously, in the time where the playstation and xbox controlled the market, the wii just became the king of consoles that generation.
don't pretend people like the wii. grandmas bought the system to go bowling. the system is a dust collector in every home and no one i knew ever played theirs. you must be young. the people who made this list are likely 25-35 years old.
digitalblasphemy1100 The wii came out in 2006 so I was around 7 years old back then. In a kid's perspective it was just the ultimate present someone could have back then. Everyone had one and everyone used it. Like, 9 years later and I still see many people using it instead of the wii u
Skins Have Skills right. I was 20 when it came out so I grew up with the older consoles. You have the wii and wii u. I grew up with all of them since the beginning and so did the people who made the list so we have all of them to choose from
digitalblasphemy1100 that's exactly the reason the list is biased. You and the people who made the list grew up with the old systems and have a lot of nostalgia for them.
It does not matter what sales they made or gimmicks they have implemented. It's their opinion on when their games were the greatest. I would say 3ds or game boy advanced was my top but it's because of sales but because they gave me the most joy.
Just Niek I have 2 OG Gameboys and zero Wii U's. The system is too obsessed with motion controls and touch screen garbage. Those should add to the system, not define it.
Just Niek I totally agree, the Wii U is selling better in the time its been out then when the Xbox 360 came out. Nintendo messed up the add campaign and made it seem like the wii u was an add on to the wii. Xbox spent millions on their add campaign and they sold worse than the wii u. Even with fuck ups the wii u will prevail.
Just Niek But it is better. Gameboy >>> wii u, and it has nothing to do with Nostalgia Every console has an era, and a context. For what they were supposed to do, to top and to inovate, the gameboy was a revolution and had graphs that nobody could believe a handheld could support. The Wii U is just the Wii with slighly better graphs and not enough games to make you buy it. It might be better in a few years, but right now, the Gameboy should be ahead in any list. You should understand context before posting stupid things like this. Nobody thinks the first apple computer has better processing or memory than a new computer. Jimi Hendrix is miles ahead of a 15 yo swedish dude who practices 18 hours per day and can play 56 notes per second - which Jimi could not even come close to. It's all about what they brought, revolutionized, invented....and Hendrix changed music. A new shredder playing faster than what Hendrix could? Nah, thanks The NES and the SNES are two of the best consoles of all time because they changed gaming history. Everything that came after was inspired by what Nintendo had created. Sure, I can play SNES games on my computer using an emulator, but those consoles created gaming. They created what multiplayer is today If you love playing call of duty in 1080p and 60 fps and loves to bash nintendo consoles, you should thank Goldeneye 64 for introducing the genre. That's how awesome the 64 is, even though the graphs were shit compared to today
Johnny Athey Aside from Super Smash Bros Melee I cannot think (off the top of my head) of a single GC game that I liked. Same goes for the Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl. But the SNES and N64, plenty... and a few for the NES. As for the handhelds I can't think of many games outside of the Pokemon franchise.
+Gilda the Griffon I thinks its an interesting controller that I enjoy but the joystick is crap I'll give you that, its like no one tested the goddamn joystick.
I grew up with NES, SNES, and N64. Dad got my brother and I the original 8 bit box of joy around 1987. So, it was fun to watch the evolution of gaming. Great list by the way
How the hell is the N64 ranked higher than the NES? NES had all the third-party support while the N64 was the opposite in that! Don't get me wrong, N64 was a great console thanks to the Rare and Nintendo games but let's be serious. It was the beginning of the downfall of Nintendo in the console market. The NES, on the other hand, saved the dying console market in North America during the mid 80s. Also, DS and GBA should be ranked higher than the N64, GameCube, and Wii but still below the NES and SNES.
Allie-RX This is probably the one complaint here about the video that I could agree with. I pretty much agreed with the ranking except at this part. I would have just had NES and N64 switch places. I think N64 deserves 3rd at least, though. Even though Nitendo's market power was declining with the N64 and they were losing 3rd parties, it's the console where Rareware hit its golden age, it showed the world that Nintendo were the king of 3D in both graphics and controls, it had their biggest hit ever in Ocarina of Time, it brought FPS to consoles successfully, etc. The GBA was pretty much a handheld SNES (which is awesome, but not enough reason to place it higher, imo), and the DS was actually kind of controversial due to its new control scheme and still remains so to this day. I adored both of them though.
Allie-RX Maybe because all the innovations and teachings that the N64 delivered to the game industry +3d graphics +3d movement (analog stick) +4 players support from the start +Force feedback 3D gaming would be very different without the N64,we would had a very crappy 5th gen if it wans't for games like Mario 64,Goldeneye and OOT
Uliseh True but the NES had innovations of its own. The first console with a D-Pad on the controller, the first console where you press buttons with both thumbs on the controller, first console to license third-party games, introduced all the iconic Nintendo franchises we still play today, and among others. Also, the NES saved the video game crash in North America. That's a much bigger accomplishment than anything the N64 did.
Allie-RX NES 3rd party support was due to actually illegal practices employed by Nintendo at the time. So that's kind of tainted, but I guess we shouldn't really care.
The SNES was the system when I was a kid, we could never afford to own one but we were blessed to rent it every so often. The N64 is definitely the system I grew up on.
10. GBA 9. Wii U 8. 3DS 7. DS 6. GameCube 5. Wii 4. GameBoy 3. NES 2. SNES Before we reach #1, let's take a moment of silence for the consoles that did not make it, GBM (GameBoy Micro), Game n watch, GamBoy Color, and... (ewwww) t-th-the-The fudging Virtual Boy.... 1. The Nintendo 64
David ikr right I mean it had great games like pilotwings 64, dk 64, Mario 64, smash bros, the original 3 Mario party's, majoras mask, goldeneye 007, perfect dark, banjo kazooie and tooie, while this hasn't aged as well, Mario Kart 64! Heck even the greatest video game ever created, Ocarina of time
Jake Koontz The SNES had better 3rd party support and more RPGs and 1 of the best zeldas and the best 2d Mario. the N64 is the best console for the people who really enjoy Nintendos first party games because of things like OoT, Mario 64 etc. SNES has the better library for most people so it's kinda fair to put it on #1.
chrono trigger, ff6, megaman x, ff4, super mario world, super metriod, breath of fire 2, kirby super star, link to the past, street fighter, harvest moon, f-zero, super castlevania, super mario RPG, yoshis island, dk country 1 and 2, starfox, lufia 1 and 2, super mario kart, sercret of mana, ogre battle, super bomber man and E.V.O search for Eden. The n64 doesn't even come CLOSE.
Jake Koontz 64 great games with alot of them not aging very well, SNES huge library of amazing games that still hold up to this day. SNES games have aged the best out of any console.
From my personal experience... 10. Wii U 9. GameBoy Colour 8. Nintendo 3DS 7. GameBoy Advanced 6. NES 5. Super Nintendo 4. Nintendo 64 3. Nintendo DS 2. Nintendo Wii 1. GameCube
mynameisdudge good list this is my list 10.wii u 9.game boy advance 8.super Nintendo 7.Nes 6.wii 5.game boy 4.ds 3.3ds 2.game and watch/after all they the first Nintendo system 1.gamecube 😍😍😍
This is why I love gametrailers. They make content so well made that you just can't find it on other sites like IGN! For a small base GameTrailers you sure put a lot of work into your content.
i guess that what you said changes with every ones opinions. you may count the good games "for you" with your finger. but ask someone about they favs on the 64, and well, you know...
Nope sorry this list is pull. To suggest that the 3DS is not the best handheld we've had, and to rely so much on nostalgia over quality is shameful. People say the SNES holds up because of nostalgia, it really don't hold up at all. People not being able to get past their childhood memories and be subjective does not a good list or system make. NES should have been number one for saving the gaming industry, but to suggest that the 3DS isn't better then N64 and SNES especially considering all the 3rd party support it gets from companies like Atlus, Level 5, all the ones needed to make Project X Zone, Sega and Square among others is insulting. When is the last time you were able to play a system from Nintendo and not have to rely on it's first party games in order to make it viable? I'll tell you, the 3DS, that's it. There's no reason the 3DS shouldn't be number 2 other than nostalgia and that is just not good enough. It was a nice try, but no.
the list wasn't ranked by numbers sold or which console saved games or how much support by a company. The people who made the video liked more games on the snes. my favorite is the N64 because I had the most fun playing the games on that system. Go make your own list
16-bit is the best gaming style ever. Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid, PKMN RSE, Yoshi's Island, and Golden Sun are true treasures to behold.
th name "wii u" isn't that bad... at least it's not called Wii one, because you know, it's not the first wii console, naming it "one" would be stupid. i only played 4 nintendo systems, so if i had to make a top4 of those, it would be like this: 4- Wii 3- Ds 2- Wii U 1- Snes
Kid do you even know what the one stands for in Xbox one? It means all in one because it can do many things unlike Nintendo's devices in which you can't watch a god damn DVD. Don't talk shit about something you don't know about.
Lol looks like he struck a nerve there lol, no need to shit your pants because he made fun of the xbox one retarded name. What's a xbox lover like you doing on a nintendo video anyways
mister3ds1 nope, it's because it was meant to be "the number ONE game console of this generation", and it failed... but realy, why would i want a dvd player on my "game" console? besides, i can watch any movie or anime on the inthernet, be it on my wii u or on my pc...
Still it's good to have these types of features on a game console because what if you don't have a dvd player at home and just want the convienience of having your one console play all your music, games, movies etc. And triforce shut the fuck up i'm not even an xbox fanboy i own all 3 systems your point is invalid, and I was just saying that the one had a meaning to it for xbox one unlike wii u. What the hell is the u for in wii u that name choice is so bad people thought it was an add on for the wii dumbass nintendo fanboy. Now tell me which console has the more retarded name.
Totally agree with the list, even before it began I knew which one was number 1. Kids these days need to do their homework on history, and understand that what they have now is thanks to the stuff that was made in the past.
how in the world was that over rater (IMO) N64 higher than anything else 9 and below? I mean, that was a game starving console that by sales numbers sold less than most of those 9 and below, even the GC had a better and wider variety of games than the N64 did for no one wanted to make games in cartridge anymore and those that were made were limited due to the media used. but what totally blows my mind is how it can be "better" than the gameboy and the NES. just because they shoved 3d polygons (that mostly looked like crap IMO even by those days standards) doesn't mean it's a great system.
i guess that you forgot one thing when you made this comentary... it's their list... it's not in order of sales, or order of games... it's in the order that they want it to be. the 64 could be in 1#, and it would not change such fact.
Neo noah I'm pretty sure that if the n64 games would have been that great (which they weren't IMO) and it had a good amount of great games (which it didn't when compared to the other devices mentioned) then it would have sold more than it did but it didn't. why? lack of great content. people decided who was the better console by buying it and they certainly didn't buy that many n64s. the GC was doomed from the start just as anyone else thanks to the PS2 which is what everyone wanted at the time. gotta give it to nintendo for making something better after the craptastic n64 (IMO)
danusty and what this commentary has to do with my previous one? and don't get me wrong, there are very few game that i like in the 64 and GC library... but yes, they don't get near to the great gens of the ps 1 and 2... too bad sony's ps3 and 4 doesn't follow the same formula of the ps1 and 2...
***** there's a better option, buy the legend of zelda collection for the GC and get TLoZ, the adventure of link, OoT and MM, done! play a better (IMO) version of mario 64 on the DS, golden eye was garbage then and even worse now, that game did not pass the test of time., get a better starfox on the 3ds, get a WAY better fzero on the GC. the other games you mentioned I don't like, what you like, I may not like and the same goes the other way. IMO the N64 only had: Bomberman 64 Bust a Move 2 Goemon's Great Adventure Hydro Thunder Mace The Dark Age Mega Man 64 Mortal Kombat Trilogy Mystical Ninja starring Goemon NBA Hangtime Paper Mario Resident Evil 2 Rogue Squadron San Francisco Rush 2049 Star Fox 64 Tsumi to Batsu: Hoshi no Keishousha OoT there you go. the 16 games I like, 7 of which can be bought on other consoles, some of them even better for the other consoles and those who are not "as good" as the n64 version are still great and are part of a larger and more varied catalog of great games (like the PS1's and Saturn's for example) as far as tastes goes, you may think OoT (which I like) is the best game ever (which it's not), but as far as me goes, here are a few PS1 games I think are far superior and more memorable (no, FF7 is not one of them): Breath of Fire IV FF6 (in FF Anthology) FF9 Grandia Lunar the silver star story complete Lunar 2 EBC Wild ARMs Wild ARMs 2 Xenogears
The 3DS has to be my favorite so far. It may lack Metroid or F-Zero, but the fact 2 of my 3 favorite games of all time are on that system is enough for me to like it more than anything else.
regarding Wii U: "cumbersome gamepad"? ever played splatoon?. whatever but.. ok, what is a foolish name have to do with anything?? and having a rough go?? if you're gonna base this on sales, then your list is easier to make than it seems. wish you had considered how fun the games are and their quality, case in point: Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Rayman Legends, Super Mario Maker, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freez, and counting.. Wii U gets no love man!
Besides Mario Maker and Splatoon, none of these games adds absolutely nothing to what Nintendo already have. They're all just sequels, and remasters from previous games from previous Nintendo's systems. That's why the Wii U is absolute garbage in comparison to the other consoles on the list.
Boi its wrong its 1/2. Gamecube/N64 depending on what you like better (I mean like Rare and 2 of the best Zelda games) 3. Wii (Best Mario Kart I have played in my life periord also I never played DD so yeah) 4/5. Wii U/DS depending on what you like better (Wii U for me Because the best 2 Zelda games in HD and SM3D World) 6. 3DS (Um this is the console I have no connection I have actually played on) 7/8. NES/SNES depending on what you like better (NES for me because I really like the Punch out on the NES the most) 9. Gameboy 10. Gameboy Advanced FYI I haven't given the Gameboys and SNES a chance besides for the zelda games Also more of a 2010s kid then 2000s
pyramidhead13579 All these nostalgia shits need to get there heads out of the ground to realise that those consoles are bad and the new ones are better. The Wii U has a small library but not clotted with thousands of useless shooters, sports games and racing games that will be out-dated within a month!
pyramidhead13579 its not even nostalgia. u can say its better than NES and Gameboy but almost everyone will agree SNES was the best for nintendo and it didnt need gimmicks and a bunch of useless features. it was designed to do one thing Play Video games. And the SNES has the best library of them all, i like the newer consoles as well but they just dont compare. not even close.
+pyramidhead13579 SNES is a masterpiece, but not best nintendo console, best is GBA. no doubt, gorgeous graphics (Golden sun,M&L:SS was looking good, and let's not forget Pokemon emerald, for me the best pokemon game ever,Metroid prime was also pretty good.)
MLG Trainer Brendan Can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic. They Gba is a good console, but saying its the best Nintendo console of all time is just nostalgia talking
No it isn't. I got GBA 2 years ago,i think it is the best nintendo console-i am serious,no nostalgia talking. of course there are some BAD games like sonic genesis and stuff, but it has one of the best games i have ever played (in my opinion)
U forgot the virtual boy and the power glove. Those things were the most innovative pieces of hardware I've ever used and had an impressive amount of third party support. Maybe someday the Wii U can be like those consoles, it's getting closer every day ;)
For me the GameCube was the best (considering I couldn't say the Wii was for being backwards compatible). The controller was so comfortable and games of such a high quality. N64 second. Third is the GBA SP (as I can't say original DS for the compatibility rule!). Playing the classic SNES and NES games on the go was great. Wii forth. The 3DS would be fifth if I was allowed to include its Virtual Console (which allows me to play the best Gameboy, NES, SNES and Indie games!) Otherwise it's tenth.
I must say, I'm surprised to see the DS any lower than #1. It just seems like so many people think the DS is the definitive experience in handhelds for its time and shapes handhelds now along with it being one of the top selling platforms ever. Melee menu music representing the Gamecube made me giggle. :) Let us never forget to appreciate that modern games fit comfortably in your pocket and have many many colors to show. We really are spoiled with HD screens being on every handheld device we take around today. We really need to learn to take what we have and make sure we enjoy it as much as we damn well can.
As much as I loved Nintendo, these days and age Nintendo hasn't offered its full genius might. Yes, the Wii U may have potential but they did wrong by making the gamepad. It was basically a wii with better graphics and nothing much else to offer. I hope that the NX will be something with smartphones and Nintendo's game console. That would be awesome
ThiefSakon the n64 was a game starving console, even the GC had a better and wider variety of games than the N64 did for no one wanted to make games in cartridge anymore and those that were made were limited due to the media used and the system's capabilities, the silicon graphics capabilities were practically unused because everything had to be 3d/polygon at the time.
I'm happy that GameCube was so high on this list. I feel so many people would keep it much lower (and make the Wii so much higher). That controller man...Nothing beats it.
I respect you're opinion but the only thing I hate with the wii u is that it doesn't have a reset button! Every single nintendo home console has a reset button except the wii u. What is this? A reset button is always good to have. Yesterday my mario maker started to struggle and the analog stick always pulled it up. I searched for the reset button to push but... There isn't any! I had to shutdown the whole wii u to make struggle to stop! A reset button would fix it with one click.
I was tempted to click the dislike button as soon as you said that the Wii U is only on this list below because it isn't a stupid headset that makes you sick. It may be having a rough time, but it's not bad! The GamePad bot only allows for innovative gameplay not possible on rival consoles, but when you're like me and you have all your consoles hooked up to one TV and a sibling who would rather play Xbox, the thing is Super convenient. Also, you say the Wii U is underpowered as if it's easy to notice and it totally doesn't host some of the good-looking games of this generation. C'mon, guys!
Damn straight the SNES should make the top spot, I don't think there's ever been a system that has ever matched the SNES in its charm and amazing catalogue of games. You know when your playing a SNES game as there's just a certain feel to the games that is un-approachable.
I figured the top four systems were right. As much as I love the N64, I still say the NES should be the number two spot due to it's iconic status in reviving the video game industry following the 1983 crash, as well as it's legendary game lineup. The SNES deserves to be number one.
Geez, WHY IS EVERY TOP 10 A FRICKING NOSTALGIA FEST?!?
Steve Burkum Cuz the average video game player is 31 years old as per the latest statistics? It's an old man hobby, get used to it. Kids should play with Hotwheels toy cars or something, games are for adults :)
Steve Burkum The only prob with the list is, WII should of been behind N64
^ lol get lost
Diego Davalos i think you are lost in your head
It doesn't really matter what some people would say. The fact of the matter is that the average age of a gamer is over 30. It's not a matter of personal opinion.
the wii u is the most under rated console of all time
Michael Billiet I agree. It is amazing. Most people who dis it haven't actually played it. You will fall in love with the controller if you do.
cortster12 I own one and disagree. The controller is really obtuse and I often times forget that the right analogue stick is up while the buttons are down. Nintendo's bid to be unique is what will ultimately kill it. I'm all for being flighty and unique but there needs to be some semblance of grounded logic too.
GREATGAIWAIN Strange, I guess this is something that different people have different opinions on.
GREATGAIWAIN i totally agree with you pal
It's good hardware, but needs more time to accumulate a software library. Compared to other entries on this list it's severely lacking.
OperatingRain ever heard of the dreamcast?
"Maybe after a few more years of exceptional games, the Wii U can join the ranks of the preceding masterwork."
Boy, that didn't age well at all.
am I the only one, who has the GameCube as their #1..?
Nope.
ds is my fav
Ds is my 3rd fav.
The gamecube is my favorite but the snes is the best console.
ness hailing from onett no, my sister Caitlyn has it as either one or two
Nintendo is more innovative and creative than Microsoft and Sony. I love my PS4, but random gun games with zombies or super good looking cars games are nothing compared to Nintendo's masterpieces.
I wish they hadn't stopped making their masterpieces...
Al2leKill What is a single first party game with a strong narrative component that's currently out on the Wii U?
+stufaman My guess is that it's your age. SNES blows away the N64 in sheer number of quality games. PS1 destroyed N64.
Nova Xennial Beware the hate seeking missiles.
I've been gaming since the 70s. I'm not bothered about success, I just know what I like.
SNES had Chrono Trigger, Mario World, Mario RPG, and Donkey Kong Country 2. Check and mate.
SilentBudgie And I got those games... Well except for Mario RPG. SNES is awesome, but N64 took it to a new level for me.
Terminatar98 I kind of don't like Rare.....
CubixFails I grew up with the wii and DS, dammit XD
CubixFails I grew up with the wii and DS, dammit XD
Agreed. My Dad Grew up with his GameBoy, and my Uncle with a N64, PLAYSTATION 2, etc. They all handed it off to me so I'm a Classic kind of person!
Coltrane Howell im kindm of a classic person, i used to have a gameboy, but then i tried to sell it at a yard sale to get a ds lite, but the gameboy dissapeared, and now i have a 3ds
but i have tuns of NES virtual consle games on it
It's weird how they didn't count backwards compatibility, because it's one of the deciding factors when I buy a console.
Judging these consoles base on games is something I can respect!
Wii U is the best console on the market, no doubt about it.
NeverSaySandwich1 no.
Pea tear Griffin Why? It may not have the best online or processing power, but it has the best games, which it the only thing that should matter when choosing a console to buy
Pea tear Griffin YES
Wii U is the only console on the market. The rest are failed PC attempts. I was let down when the new consoles weren't 120fps and/or 4k gaming. Glad I got the PC Wii U master combo
David Woodruff Hell yeah dude, the beat combo is a Wii U and a PC. Having a 3ds helps too
I Think the GameCube and the Wii are too low on this list...
So basically... Old is better?!?
but it's true.
This is an awesome trip down memory lane thanks gt
the gamecube should have been higher on the list
Yeah
yeah
wii ds and gamecube are to low
hi again KSHILLER "F4GGYT"
Basically numbers 10-5 should have been moved up.
The best box Nintendo has made, making memories we will keep forever. *advertises app on Xbox*
Perfect list, guys! Great work.
Video should be called "my nostalgia list"
Saying gameboy is better than wii u is like saying that the first apple computer is better than a mac.
Just Niek My broken calculator is better than a Mac but whatever
George Bob I know, I don't like neither.
Just Niek But it is better. Gameboy >>> wii u, and it has nothing to do with Nostalgia
Every console has an era, and a context.
Nah, thanks
The NES and the SNES are two of the best consoles of all time because they changed gaming history. Everything that came after was inspired by what Nintendo had created. Sure, I can play SNES games on my computer using an emulator, but those consoles created gaming. They created what multiplayer is today
If you love playing call of duty in 1080p and 60 fps and loves to bash nintendo consoles, you should thank Goldeneye 64 for introducing the genre. That's how awesome the 64 is, even though the graphs were shit compared to today
The Wii U is easily my favorite console of all time, but the SNES is right behind it
+The CrobatMan Cough...Cough...Genesis..Does...What...Nintendon't...Cough...Cough. But Wii U is infront of it and SNES is 3rd.
+VGworld I hate it when people like you do the cough shit.
Weegee Luigi and I care why?
Dededestruction did u have the original ds I still have mine today from age 4 and I'm 13 now if u think Wii U is the best you haven't lived
Vaal tegre ulfberf tiri maferic. Ulse nov kri torro. Ansil drouvg incytric RetroVGworld
90's and early 2000's.....man those were the best times to be a gamer.
GameCube. Greatest console of all time.
What?! Gamecube was the best. On top of that, I'd say Brawl was one of the weaker games in the Wii's library lol
Brawl was the only game I bought a Wii for
ZeroKami86 god I'm sorry Brawl is an awful game
+Johnny Athey I disagree
Wii is my favorite not only for its games but also for having the best Virtual Console selection
I'm pretty sure Mario has a MD, not a PHD.
Oh man, the DS is too low. There was so much interesting exclusive content on that system that even the shovelware was good.
let's be real here, the nintendo 64 controller sucked
+Spyro the dragon nah
I actually love it! I don't think it sucks. It was also the first controller ever made for people with 3 hands!
+Gilda the Griffon I thinks its an interesting controller that I enjoy but the joystick is crap I'll give you that, its like no one tested the goddamn joystick.
Ikr.... I mean, how do you... hold it?
It doesn't suck. It was sure friggin' ugly, but certainly playable.
I grew up with NES, SNES, and N64. Dad got my brother and I the original 8 bit box of joy around 1987. So, it was fun to watch the evolution of gaming. Great list by the way
1. Nintendo DS
2. Snes
3. Nintendo 3ds XL
But you can play ds games on the 3DS LOL
I still remember getting my WII seven years ago. Great system.
I think the WiiU should have been much higher
Nice work on getting the Dudley Boyz 3-D clip in the 3-D console!
I don't think the GBA was better than the GameCube or Wii...
Allie-RX Maybe because all the innovations and teachings that the N64 delivered to the game industry +3d graphics
+3d movement (analog stick)
+4 players support from the start
+Force feedback
3D gaming would be very different without the N64,we would had a very crappy 5th gen if it wans't for games like Mario 64,Goldeneye and OOT
Awesome Top Ten List! I still rock my original GameBoy, GameBoy Advance and Super Nintendo!
The SNES was the system when I was a kid, we could never afford to own one but we were blessed to rent it every so often. The N64 is definitely the system I grew up on.
10. GBA
9. Wii U
8. 3DS
7. DS
6. GameCube
5. Wii
4. GameBoy
3. NES
2. SNES
Before we reach #1, let's take a moment of silence for the consoles that did not make it,
GBM (GameBoy Micro), Game n watch, GamBoy Color, and... (ewwww) t-th-the-The fudging Virtual Boy....
1. The Nintendo 64
R.I.P Virtual boy
N64 is also my #1
David ikr right I mean it had great games like pilotwings 64, dk 64, Mario 64, smash bros, the original 3 Mario party's, majoras mask, goldeneye 007, perfect dark, banjo kazooie and tooie, while this hasn't aged as well, Mario Kart 64! Heck even the greatest video game ever created, Ocarina of time
My list!
10, GBA
9, DSI
8, DS
7, 3DS
6, Wii u
5, gameboy
4, Super Nintendo
3, NES
2, Gameboy advance SP
1, Nintendo 64
Can't take this nostalgia fest seriously. This guy only put the SNES ahead of n64 because it was his console growing up.
I grew up with the N64 and I would have placed it third on the list behind the SNES and NES. The SNES had more games, more classics, and sold more.
xNewAgeWarriorx Not only that but so many of the SNES's best games have aged incredibly well, most even better than the N64 and Gamecube.
Jake Koontz 64 great games with alot of them not aging very well, SNES huge library of amazing games that still hold up to this day. SNES games have aged the best out of any console.
Its so hard to decide which is better out of the number one and two spots.
From my personal experience...
10. Wii U
9. GameBoy Colour
8. Nintendo 3DS
7. GameBoy Advanced

😍😍😍
This is why I love gametrailers. They make content so well made that you just can't find it on other sites like IGN! For a small base GameTrailers you sure put a lot of work into your content.
The n64 is not that good. The amount of good games for it I can count on my fingers.
agree
i guess that what you said changes with every ones opinions.
you may count the good games "for you" with your finger.
but ask someone about they favs on the 64, and well, you know...
Neo noah
yeah you can count on fingers
Then you weren't playing the good games, or you just sucked at them and thought they were bad.
you have a alot of fingers then
nostalgia hit me hard now
too bad im too grown up to buy back those nintendo systems
Wii u should be number 1
We should wait first. I like the Wii U but I have to see the rest of its lineup to see if it's up there with the GameCube and others.
The wii u is a failure. I prefer my Xbox 360 and Xbox one
JakRizen2
A subjective list would be boring as hell since it would display only the obvious for everyone and every list would be the same.
Yeah, I was surprised the 3DS wasn't higher. It's a damn good system.
16-bit is the best gaming style ever. Super Mario World, Link to the Past, Super Metroid, PKMN RSE, Yoshi's Island, and Golden Sun are true treasures to behold.
th name "wii u" isn't that bad...
at least it's not called Wii one, because you know, it's not the first wii console, naming it "one" would be stupid.
i only played 4 nintendo systems, so if i had to make a top4 of those, it would be like this:
4- Wii
3- Ds
2- Wii U
1- Snes
Now tell me which console has the more retarded name.
mister3ds1 Still the Xbox one
Totally agree with the list, even before it began I knew which one was number 1. Kids these days need to do their homework on history, and understand that what they have now is thanks to the stuff that was made in the past.
the wii u is the best nintendo system
I was born in the GameCube time and what do I think deserves no.1? Wii U but plz bring sunshine to Wii U plz Nintendo
They are all great, I can't put any above others
how in the world was that over rater (IMO) N64 higher than anything else 9 and below?
Neo noah the order of sales and games comment were addressed.
IMO the N64 only had:
Bomberman 64
Bust a Move 2
Goemon's Great Adventure
Hydro Thunder
Mace The Dark Age
Mega Man 64
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon
NBA Hangtime
Paper Mario
Resident Evil 2
Rogue Squadron
San Francisco Rush 2049
Star Fox 64
Tsumi to Batsu: Hoshi no Keishousha
OoT
there you go. the 16 games I like, 7 of which can be bought on other consoles, some of them even better for the other consoles and those who are not "as good" as the n64 version are still great and are part of a larger and more varied catalog of great games (like the PS1's and Saturn's for example)
as far as tastes goes, you may think OoT (which I like) is the best game ever (which it's not), but as far as me goes, here are a few PS1 games I think are far superior and more memorable (no, FF7 is not one of them):
Breath of Fire IV
FF6 (in FF Anthology)
FF9
Grandia
Lunar the silver star story complete
Lunar 2 EBC
Wild ARMs
Wild ARMs 2
Xenogears
Wii U gets no love man!
forgot Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Wooly World and Super Mario 3D World.. and counting
+JM Revelo We can now add Xenoblade Chronicles X to that list as well.
Ikr
Besides Mario Maker and Splatoon, none of these games adds absolutely nothing to what Nintendo already have. They're all just sequels, and remasters from previous games from previous Nintendo's systems. That's why the Wii U is absolute garbage in comparison to the other consoles on the list.
The wii and DS Were underrated.
Boi its wrong its
1/2. Gamecube/N64 depending on what you like better (I mean like Rare and 2 of the best Zelda games)
3. Wii (Best Mario Kart I have played in my life periord also I never played DD so yeah)
4/5. Wii U/DS depending on what you like better (Wii U for me Because the best 2 Zelda games in HD and SM3D World)
6. 3DS (Um this is the console I have no connection I have actually played on)
7/8. NES/SNES depending on what you like better (NES for me because I really like the Punch out on the NES the most)
9. Gameboy
10. Gameboy Advanced
FYI I haven't given the Gameboys and SNES a chance besides for the zelda games Also more of a 2010s kid then 2000s
This was a perfect list ranking. 10/10
I don't care if it was the first or if it's more classic, the Snes, Nes, and gameboy are NOT better than the wii or gamecube
pyramidhead13579 All these nostalgia shits need to get there heads out of the ground to realise that those consoles are bad and the new ones are better.
Kudos to GT for using Locke's theme on the top spot's intro. Goosebumps were felt. :D
wiiu lamest console ever
They've taken 9 huge steps forward, the Wii U was a huge step back
All Hail the VirtualBoy
U forgot the virtual boy and the power glove. Those things were the most innovative pieces of hardware I've ever used and had an impressive amount of third party support. Maybe someday the Wii U can be like those consoles, it's getting closer every day ;)
YAS! IM SO BORED AND YOU SAVED ME!
"Hey guys we left out the Virtual Boy"
"I told you to never bring up that name again"
I grew up a lady who watched her daddy play Super Mario World and screamed 'D'oh!' with him when he lost a live :D
nice list!!
AWWWW SHEEEEEIT GT you guys made the be-all, end-all list.
watching this makes me want to buy ALL of them
I must say, I'm surprised to see the DS any lower than #1. It just seems like so many people think the DS is the definitive experience in handhelds for its time and shapes handhelds now along with it being one of the top selling platforms ever.
Melee menu music representing the Gamecube made me giggle. :)
Let us never forget to appreciate that modern games fit comfortably in your pocket and have many many colors to show. We really are spoiled with HD screens being on every handheld device we take around today. We really need to learn to take what we have and make sure we enjoy it as much as we damn well can.
"Maybe after a few years of exeptional games, the Wii U can join the ranks of they're preceding masterworks"
E3 2015 Dissagrees with you.
Nintendo Switch should be #1 in an updated list
The SNES definitely should win. It was a fricking powerhouse!
True that when it comes to hardware it isn't that much better but it has more than enough games to back it up now
Still in 2016, I want to get a GameCube :P
10. Nintendo 64
9. SNES
8. NES
7. Gameboy Advance
6. GameCube
5. DS
4. Wii U
3. Wii
2. Switch
1. 3DS
The DS brings back so many memories...
7:33 which game game is that? i bought it on a flea market once when i was 7 or 8 and it kinda disappeared into the void after a while
I smell nostalgia favouritism.
I hoped the N64 would trump the Snes just because it's so "mainstream" to see the Snes on top. x)
I bet for some the N64 is the one.^^
for me the n64 shouldn't even be on the list
That's a bold statement, my friend.^^
ThiefSakon I take that back, I'd put it dead last right before the virtual boy, but that is just my personal opinion on it
How do you come to that oppinion? =]
Despite being born in the age of the N64, I was a SNES kid growing up.
Now I am glad that's the case.
The Green Dragon 53 I was born in the ds-wii time, and its still good!
The Green Dragon 53 I was born in the ds-wii time, and its still good!
The Green Dragon 53 i was a 90s kid so it was mostly N64, kinda wished i had an SNES though missed out on some fun games.
I wish we lived in the alternate universe where we had the wii motion controls and HD
Gamecube with the gba player was great it is a must have for the Gamecube :)
the snes looked great. i wish i had a chance to play that console
my favorite is gamecube, so many good games.
at least i learned that the gameboy had 4 batteries today
My top 5:
5. Wii
4. GameCube
3. SNES
2. DS
1. Wii u
That list sucks. The ds should be number 1 and the snes shouldnt be on the list at all.
My opinion
I respect you're opinion but the only thing I hate with the wii u is that it doesn't have a reset button! Every single nintendo home console has a reset button except the wii u. What is this? A reset button is always good to have. Yesterday my mario maker started to struggle and the analog stick always pulled it up. I searched for the reset button to push but... There isn't any! I had to shutdown the whole wii u to make struggle to stop! A reset button would fix it with one click.
+Nintendo Shark just go to settings and thing click the thing below wii u settings bam it's off then turn it on
I told myself that if gamecube didnt make top 5 ide cry and my baby made it
I was tempted to click the dislike button as soon as you said that the Wii U is only on this list below because it isn't a stupid headset that makes you sick.
Incredibly hard to decide on a top ten Nintendo consoles… my top 3 would be:
3) DS
2) SNES
1) GameBoy
My list
10. Wii U
9. Nintendo 3DS
8. Gameboy Color
7. Nintendo DS
6. Wii
5. NES
4. Gameboy Advance
3. GameCube
2. Super Nintendo
1. Nintendo 64
i love most classic games but i love new games too
I grew up with n64 and gc. Gc has got to be one of the best consoles Nintendo has released. But n64 has my heart
I remember playing my ds lite for hours after hours after hours ( 3 hours later ) after hours. I loved my lite
Imo, the New Nintendo 3ds is the greatest console of all time.
Am I the only one who thinks the Wii U should be higher than the Wii? The controller on the Wii U is perfect, and so far the games have been great!
