I am doing outdoor family pics with Santa. Location is front porch of an old home so no rim light. Do you think one FJ400 in a 36” octa will be enough to evenly light the group? This is a fantastic video and I appreciate all of your efforts.
It should be as long as the group is not too big. I just shot an office portrait with a group of about 14 people with one FJ4oo worked out just fine. A second strobe behind would be nice to add for a rim light if you have room behind the group.
I raised and lowered the power of the key light strobe head until it matched my f-stop and gave me a proper skin tone on their faces. Then I raised and lowered the shutter until I liked the background.
Very informative from start to finish. I liked the two flash setup with the 2nd flash gelled with the orange. Beautiful rim light. More outdoor portrait videos please!
I know I’m months late but are we just gonna ignore him climbing the tree, falling, being in pain then the next scene he’s in a sling from that point on?? Like he broke his arm and they kept rolling 🤣🤣

The trees are out of focus enough. Most of the images from the session the trees are more like framing the group.

great video as always, question, did you match you main light (power) to your F stop or did you go by eye until you like the exposure? thank you.

We were not using TTL we were using manual flash settings.

why not native 24-70. auto focus is better with native sony lens
