Thanks for this! The focus tips with pairing of aperture was like a lightbulb moment, my biggest worry is not having everyone in focus in group poses. Thanks again!
This is GREAT! I have my first extended family (6 adults/4 children under 10) in a week! We're hoping for good weather otherwise it will be an indoor session which I think I can handle with my 165cm diffused umbrella and strobe. We won't have the fun variety of their large property if we go indoors. Thank you!!
Details on shutter speed, ISO and aperture are super helpful. The one thing from your awesome videos that is missing for me is depth of field. It would be so helpful if you could better explain how your focal length and distance to the subject effects background as well as sharp subjects. Thanks for all you do!
You are always amazing. I have an idea for a video. Since I have gotten my mirror less I am not sure which focus to use. One of them the box always moves and it's so annoying.
I was watching your video very carefully about Family posing. It was very helpful.. some of the things you are mentioning on this video, for example, schedule sessions, two hours prior the sunset.. family hired me they wanted at 9 o’clock in the morning no matter what, because they have extended family that have to leave later that day. The extended family is out of state. They also did not want to go to the lake nearby, and most images are from their backyard. I completely refused to take photos in front of a fence and did it against the house. The house also served to cover the sun that was already pretty high, and would cause a lot of shades under their eyes otherwise. it would be nice to see some videos on how to communicate with clients, specifically with strong clients. The clients that tell you how they want to be posed or the ones who tell you the exact time of the photo shoot they want to have.
I don’t think I could get this kind of exposure balance in some of these backlit situations without either a toned-down flash or a reflector or something similar. Natural light is good, but backlit natural light is something else. How do you do it?
Question. Usually set my auto /continuous focus to pin point with BBF. But wondering if I should switch to autofocus / continuous and wide focus. What do you do ? Also How many focus points : all or every other ? I have the z5 Thank you
I have a Canon 5D Mark iii - I have 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 70-200mm lenses. I have a family shoot of 17 - I am having trouble understanding which lens would work best and why. Can you help?
I think talking about aperture without mentioning the focal length and the distance of the lens from the subject in each individual photo doesn't makes much sense. I mean 35mm f2.8 at 10 feet away it's a completely different situation than 85mm f2.8 at 6 feet.
Awesome thanks for sharing very helpful
Once of the most basic but educational video I have seen. Really helpful.
Great timing on the video. Have an extended family session next month. 😁
Awesome!! Good luck
I would love behind the scenes videos 😍 those always helped me in the beginning, the ones you all out out so far are very helpful
Hey E-Squared, I really appreciate this video. Thanks for the information. Im doing my first extended family shoot and I was wondering.
I would love to see a Senior session where the senior is wearing glasses. Bonus points if they have transition lenses.
We ask them to take lenses out and almost always they will pop them out so we don’t have to fix any glare in editing 🙌

Awesome information, thank you so much for sharing your expertise. It’s very hard to find so much detailed info.

What metering mode do you use? Do you use continuous focus?
Thank you so much for sharing!
Great information! Quick question...did you use flash with any of the examples shared? Or do you have a video with flash tips?
@@irvingperalta22 we did not use any flash. We don’t use flash with our natural light portraits.
@@esquared.photography Thank you for the info. Great Great Pictures!

What’s the best AF setting for a Nikon 7ll?
I would like to learn more about printing: what company to use, how to get started, the cost - just an all around tutorial if you could.
Do you typically bump ISO up in full stops?

Do you use nd filters when doing family portraits outdoors? if so would that change your settings?

f7? Why not just use f8?
