Kickoff to the 2023 Season - quick lesson in circle hooks and striped bass rigs

- The first beach front outing of the 2023 season....which seems to have kicked off a lot earlier than usual. Obviously had to shake off the rust....but a good opportunity to talk about dead sticking for striped bass, different rigs, and circle hooks. This one is going to be more educational than action packed, but for the beginners its important to talk about. Feel free to drop your own tips and tricks in the comments section! I only caught one striper this season from my kayak. Haven't spent much time out front honestly. Loved your fluke videos, great tips... I have a tip for your fishfunder set up. The slider goes on your main line not the leader. In finding fish you need to set your weight in then let the line out more than a few feet to be "finding" fish. Sometime I'll let mine outt 30 feet before I flip the bail. Just depends where the hole is or lip.

I am from MASS its the law as well , just a suggestion try bigger size the gap should be larger than the lower jaw of the target species

My casting rods are custom….so it’s kind of hard to give you a name brand. I have one OEM, I don’t like it. I’d say 7 foot, Medium heavy. Fluke is better when it’s fast action and you can feel everything. But if I’m bribing ONE rod….7 foot make it tough

I’ve always used 6….but will likely bump that up a size after this vid
I have had a lot of success with the Demon Perfect Inline Circle - 1x fine using the power snell knot from this UA-cam video - ua-cam.com/video/0RpjvKQ1wWg/v-deo.html Only one surf caught Striper though (on a sand flea) with a FF rig but also plenty of freshwater fish with almost no gut hooking. I’ve heard there is better leverage with the straight shank. No baitholder barbs though. Thanks for another great video - tight lines

Jim Hutchinson had a great video explaining why this is happening. It’s to sustain the fishery. Stats show that last years epic fall run out a big dent in the population. I mean….whatever. I don’t bitch about the rules much, I just follow them. Meat in the cooler at the end of the day is just a bonus to having fun, chillin with my boys, and making content. If I get a snack I get a snack 😂
