i had a weird thought watching this, elephants have been studied and we know they find humans cute. so the easiest way to describe what a war elephant went through, just picture being captured and ridden by a house cat, sent to rip, maim, and kill a army of kittens with glocks.

Beach landing battle wheren't really a good strategy back them, because on beach landing the deffenders had all the advantage since they could place artillery and cavalary, while the landing party would be without cavalary and they wouldn't be able to land all at once, making it easy for the enemy to take them out one by one. It wasn't like modern warfare where people have long ranged weapons mainly, and amphibious tanks.

In an alternate universe the most powerful Greek factions unite against a Roman invasion the same way they did against the Persians hundreds of years before. Massive Roman army vs the best of Greece. If you ever play the Mod that just came out that has random factions taken from a bunch of other mods, factions like Gondor, Rome, Mordor, Skyrim, etc, then it would be cool to see Rome holding out against a massive Orc army. Or Rome vs Gondor. I cannot see those two ever being allies. Also this battle was great. Keep up the good work.

The Greeks tried to do that but by then the romans had outsmarted everyone else around the Mediterranean. They had taken out Carthage, subdued Macedonia and had began besieging Greek cities. The Romans played their cards safe and thus their empire was the one to rule the western world.

Beginning in the eighth century B.C., Ancient Rome grew from a small town on central Italy’s Tiber River into an empire that at its peak encompassed most of continental Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands. Among the many legacies of Roman dominance are the widespread use of the Romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian) derived from Latin, the modern Western alphabet and calendar and the emergence of Christianity as a major world religion. After 450 years!

I actually had a similar scenario happen in single player. I think I was facing the Avernii as the Icenii and the computer brought this MASSIVE army to one of my smaller port cities, but the comp did so through a naval invasion. My forces in the city were mostly the garrison soldiers and a couple noble spear bands with 4 units of ballista that I was making to add to one of my armies. I was not sure if land based artillery could attack ships (this was the first time I had any when facing a naval assault and I did not face many naval assaults) so I put the ballistae on the beach and was happily surprised when the enemy navy came in range. Pretty soon transport after transport was sinking hundreds of meters away from the shore and by the time the ballistae were out of ammo only about 2 or 3 of the enemies actual naval "raider" ships made it to shore and were quickly mopped up by the local garrison.
TLDR: Ballistae with the standard ammo work well against navies and sinking as many enemy vessels as possible before they can land is the best route to go when defending against ships.

Hope you do know the Romans did land outside the walls of Carthage. The reason for the Punic Wars was that Rome wanted to expand their borders of course but to achieve supremacy in the Mediterranean.
They sacked Carthage, transported stones from the ruins of Carthage to Rome and throughout other corners of the Republic. (This was of course before the time of the Empire.)
At the time of the Second Punic War, the Roman naval fleet assembled, was the largest in the Mediterranean. While their was another army with siege towers marching on land. After the naval fleet arrived outside Carthage, they landed their troops. They took the city in a princer move, (attacking the sides) few of the Roman ships disembarked their forces into the harbor of Carthage (which bypassed the city walls.)

Bruh. The carthaginians had an equal number of armies, equal funds, access to elephants, more artillery, the advantage of being on the receiving end of an amphibious attack, couldn'tbe flanked and STILL managed to lose.
epic battle and epic video, but lmao this should be the kind of battle that you win with like 200 casualties max

Apollo, if I was the Romans, I would have let the Artillery open fire from the sea and kind of wait it out then once most of the ammo is used up charge in with your units

only thing of I can think of would make it better would be that if the characters were WWII D-Day equivalents and the cavalry was considered to be airplanes, the defenders were Germans so their airplanes would be bf-109's not spitfires
