To be specific, Dana received the memo that TOH will be cancelled after the premiere of S1 Ep18 “Agony of a Witch”. Because of that, S2 had to be rewritten to speed up the story. There was supposed to be an ep featuring Luz’s Quinceanera. 😢
And there was supposed to be an episode with Steve that was cancelled. He was only a background character in the previous episodes but he has a lot of depth that is only briefly seen in the last episodes. His relationship with his job, his parents, and his half-brother would have been fleshed out in that episode.

Turning the existing story into a longer and fully fledged story would be nice. Either way, I enjoyed what we got. I think we can consider the series the last of what Disney tv animation has going for it. Once it’s over, it’s over. I’ve mostly lost hope or interest in western animation due to the disrespectful say they pulled the plug on series like Infinity Train and OH. Here’s hoping western indie animation becomes a stronger possibility.

"Any Sport in a Storm" is one of my favorite episodes because obviously Hunter and Willow character dynamic is so good. Both considered half-a-witch in a society defined by magic. Willow, a natural in plant magic being focused for long time in abomination because of the coven system which lead to bullying. Hunter, not having magic while being forced and manipulated in a position where everyone belittle him for not having magic. But the thing about Hunter and Willow is that they meet and see each other as this great people while also knowing their weak side. It's cool how Willow reassures Hunter that he won't be replaced in the Emerald Entrail (a symbol of the lesson of their character dynamic). Willow' in the entire episode is trying to make Hunter understand this because as Hunting Palisman estabilshes, she wants to be wise and strong and making "Caleb" understand this is essential for validation of her growth. In the end, both Hunter froms a connection while Willow helps someone. (also Hunter blushes at willow words to him in that scene) "Reaching Out" recontextualizes and highlight Luz tendency of not sharing her pain and sadness. Luz is defined by self-blame and fear of being a burden and this episode points for this tendency go to its highest when she doesn't want to share this grief and sadness over distance of her mother. It also highlights how Luz is afraid of losing the people she loves. She understands that pain so much. It's a beautiful episode that really makes you understand her behavior and flaws since the begining. also, it makes you understand the divide between Camila and Luz more. They are both grieving and this creates a communication problem that leads Luz thinking Camila sees her a burden while Camila thinks she is pushing Luz away.
so fun fact, Tiny Nose is voiced by Dana terrace (the creator of the show) and her design is based on how Dana would doodle herself on her tumblr and such. So her being the ""author"" is a neat meta joke. talking about meta joke, the whole subplot was poking fun of fans going ham with theories on The Good Witch Azura (despise the fact that the show made it perfectly clear in episode 2 that Luz **wasn't** a chosen one) that's why the theories Amity and Luz talked about sounded kinda like yours, it's because those are real theories fans have been discussing
First of all, WELCOME TO THE HUNTLOW/WINTER SHIP!!!! We started off as an inflatable tire but we are now a full on battle ship baby!!! Next up, Dana lost her dad in a car accident at a young age so this episode is actually dedicated to him. It's very bitter sweet.
It was nice to get a Willow episode as Willow is one of my favorite characters, and great Luz and Amity - as much as I love them - didn’t overshadow that plot. And I’m big supporter of Winter (yes, I say Winter instead of Huntlow since I find Winter nicer to say). Also glad Darius wasn’t the dick we thought. As for episode 14, for those who don’t know, Luz’s dad passing away directly references Dana losing her dad to a car crash when she was 11, and I was as stunned as Amity to hear about this. I know Dana bestowed parts of her onto Luz, primarily her bisexuality, but I didn’t think she go that far. It was just really tragic to hear. And don’t think the trauma is over; episodes 16 and 17 go hard.
I think the reason Huntlow is more poppular is because Winter, considering its the name of a season, would be alot harder to identify the ship with and find content of it with that name, while Huntlow is more original and you're guarenteed to find content and recognize it as Hunter and Willow faster /lh
I was honestly surprised when the Abomination head supported Hunter after he helped out his friends. I honestly thought he was too vain for that but really goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. Alador is definitely the better of Amity's parents. He's a bit oblivious unfortunately, but he's willing to admit his mistakes and make amends when they are pointed out to him.
A small detail I only noticed now but most people probably noticed in their first watch is that when Hunter is leaving and wishing Willow good luck, because every chance needs to be deserved when you're a "half-witch like him" Willow empathizes because at the beginning of the series people called her half-a-witch Willow. Mindblown that I hadn't noticed such a cool detail before.
Reaching Out is my favorite episode, easily. Cool fights, an Edric storyline (even though I'm sad we never got an Emira one to go along with it), Alador's realizing he's an atrocious parent and starting to be better about it, and of course all of the stuff with Luz and her dad. Also, Luz's design in this is so good, I really wish her hair stayed like that for the rest of the series, but I also like her little ponytail she get's later on too, so it's not that big of a deal.
I love the connection between Hunter and Willow feeling inadequate and wanting to show off their potential. They have such an adorable bond that started in this episode and only got clearer moving forward. I do ship it, but just in general I like them being friends since it’s allows them both to get more focus. Hunter just having friends his own age is really sweet to see. On a similar note, episode 14 is great as well. I can’t really say anything that hasn’t already been said, but these two episodes were both very good in their own right.
Fun fact: the origin of the Azura books had already been revealed, technically. In Through The Looking Glass Ruins, when Luz is at the library looking for stuff about the human realm in the crystal ball, there's a piece of news about stacks of human books washing up on the beach, and the picture even shows the cover of an Azura book. But it's blink and you miss it: you actually have to pause and go frame by frame in order to catch it.
No matter how many times I hear it Luz saying she's had a name this whole time will never stop being funny. Also u gotta appreciate that Luz willing to emit that she screwed up and the anniversary of her dad's death isn't an excuse as she says herself.
That's for sure... after episode 15, everything will be crushing down as the Day of Unity comes closer and secrets and mysteries come to light. For better or worse, their minds are going to explode.
I just realized luz and amity met Hunter when he was on the edge or being very serious while willow and gus met him when he more like relaxed and even smiling with them..
The scene with Luz & Amity under their Grom tree was so well executed. The voice acting was stellar, the facial expressions perfect, and the writing was gut-wrenching. That scene breaks me every time. I like that Luz says like it's not a big deal and tries to minimize it, it was a long time ago, it's totally not an issue anymore, as if to convince herself more so than Amity. But she doesn't minimize what she did, she fully accepts that it's not excuse for her lying and opens up to her finally telling the truth and showing how she feels.
Has one of you said: "I´m exhausted" after a reaction once? Well... prepair to be emotionally exhausted even more. This is not a sprint for single episodes, it´s a marathon to the end of the season.

I'm related to Luz cause I lost my brother 19 years ago when I was a kid when it happened watched him go back to the earth, and Amity cause my dad never spend anytime with me and my siblings ever since he remarried worst thing is he disowned my siblings and me
The end of the episode with Luz and Amity underneath the tree was absolutely sweet and perfectly visualised. And the fact that they ended it seeing her mum also with a flower by the window was really wonderful. The way they express genuine emotions in this story is so great, and I think truly appreciated by all fans of great storytelling.
If I'm remembering correctly, Dana or someone on the team said that if they were to continue the story past toh it would be an Eda spin-off of when she was younger, but there's no promise of that happening. Here's to hoping though because that would be so fuckin hype
This episode flipped so many peoples' opinion of Darius. Like Zangief said in "Wreck-It Ralph": "You are a _bad_ guy, but this does not mean you are a bad _guy."_ Disney's official reason for the cancellation was that the show "doesn't fit the Disney brand." As far as anyone can tell, the best translation is "the show is being censored or banned in countries like Russia and Turkey where homosexuality is illegal, and we'd like to get a new show that gets their money as quickly as possible."
Also the third Season comes out in mid October. The only bad thing is, each episode has like a 3 month gap between. Btw. The first episode is called: Thanks to them, the second: For the Future, Third: Watching and dreaming. That’s all we know. In regards to whether they knew before Season 2 aired, Season 2's episodes would have been worked on while Season 1 was airing, because usually shows are worked on a year before releasing. So they might have known halfway through working on Season 2 and that's why they had that long hiatus in the middle, because they had to rework things in order to give the show a fitting conclusion.
So in the Looking Glass ruins that episode there is a slide in the library while luz is looking for information on the journal there's like a newspaper clipping that mentions a box of human junk just coming up washing over on shore and in that box of human junk we can actually see the Azora books. So the fact that the books were nothing special were actually told to us in episode 5 of season 2 but it's not a thing that a lot of people caught because it's a background detail honestly the only reason I know it is because I watched a ton of channels at the time that over analyzed every single thing about this show
The weirdly specific Amity theory about like it being her mom and pretty much all of their theories they weren't meant to be anything other than poking fun at Fan theories

Damn, that cult metaphor to describe Hunter's attitude prior is really accurate, as someone who had a similar experience, leaving a cult and finding that there is so much outside of it that's a very very accurate depiction.
I do love what they did with Amity's siblings. Ngl in their first episode I HATED them, I didn't want another troublemaker siblings trope that had been done to death. So imagine my delight and surprise when literally in their next appearance they've gone from being minor antagonists to apologetic chaotic neutrals who actually help put now and then. Also I think Emera actually looks cuter without her concealment stone :p
The ending of season 2 was always supposed to end like it did(main plot, no spoilers, but you guys will know when you watch the finale) what got sped up or cut were other plot points, secondary stories and fun episodes like a beach episode or Luz' quiceañera, but the main story was always supposed to end there.
I have loved Gravity Falls and watched it so many times! I've gone back and forth about it and I do like Owl House a little more. Partially just because it's newer and a bit more modern. I just love so many characters so much! It's fun you guys can be part of the theorizing with us before S3. comes out!

The Owl House just feels more important than Gravity Falls. The representation just can't be beat. It absolutely helps that the story lines and the characters and their relationships are so good.
The girl with the big nose and anger issues is actually a caricature of Dana Terrace, the creator of TOH, drawn by Alex Hirsch. He used to tease her about it and she thought it was hilarious and put it into the show.

In the past, there was a separation between the producers and the publishers. If a series was discontinued on one station, the producers could simply look for a new one. Nowadays, series are produced within the TV stations. This makes the producers very dependent. "The Owl House" is "DISNEYS The Owl House". The moment the producers present a series to a TV station and the station agrees, they have already lost their rights to it. Series that have been continued by Netflix, for example, were bought by Netflix from the other broadcasters, not from the producers. Thus, the producer of The Owl House has no opportunity to produce the series elsewhere unless a station buys the rights from Disney, which is very unlikely.
The reason it was fully cancelled was that disney channel as a brand is rebranding itself to be for a younger audience with no serialized storytelling like gravity falls, amphibia and owl house. They really should have moved production to disney plus rather then fully cancelling but that was the main reason why. It’s incredibly frustrating especially since it is disneys first same sex couple, but I like to see it as the catalyst for more eventual stories to be told similarly. I hold hope for spin-off projects or continuations but you never know. I try not to look at it too negatively, just love the art we got!
I hope you have enjoyed these... "fun" episodes, because after episode 15 (the very last light-hearted episode), all episodes will have a much darker and heavy tone... especially episode 16 ("Hollow Minded"). That's the one that will dictate the course of the rest of the season.
The rights to anything involving the Owl House are owned by Disney Television Animation so I don't think it's legally possible for Netflix or Hulu to renew the show ;__; Really the only way the show can be expanded, if Dana and the writers even want to, is by "ousting" Chapek ;>
I would have happily watched a fourth season with season 3 being more human realm adventures and season for having maybe more epilogue. Or a whole spin-off about those years

I found about this show some time ago and wow, i shat on Disney for the SW sequels, but i didn't fanboy about it, but when I found out that this show was cancelled after I finished S1, like, why? what the actual fuck is wrong with the Disney corpos? It's like they hate money, I fell in love with this show and those fools just killed it before I even knew and it only got worse after details and bits about the cut and cancelled stuff came to the light, it's insane.
yeah its definitely cut bcuz of the gay stuff, they said it was bcuz of "didnt fit its brand" but we know its bcuz of literally nothing else bcuz if it was for violence or disturbing content, well, amphibia, no spoilers! but amphibia can get quite violent, more blunt so far than ive seen from owl house too, aside from later on, and tons of spooky bugs and what not, it cant be anything else

Disney channel currently has cartoons that are not story focused/heavy. I think the idea is to move away from darker story shows and more child friendly comedy focused stories that are easily digestible. So on one hand I’m glad it’s likely not an LGTBA issue, but rather some idiot in charge thinks it’s better to not focus on streaming service friendly shows and rather the baby crowd..

The B plot of episode 13 was just the creator making fun of fan theories about the author. There was never plans to bring it up.

I just realized luz and amity met Hunter when he was on the edge or being very serious while willow and gus met him when he more like relaxed and even smiling with them..
The scene with Luz & Amity under their Grom tree was so well executed. The voice acting was stellar, the facial expressions perfect, and the writing was gut-wrenching. That scene breaks me every time. I like that Luz says like it's not a big deal and tries to minimize it, it was a long time ago, it's totally not an issue anymore, as if to convince herself more so than Amity. But she doesn't minimize what she did, she fully accepts that it's not excuse for her lying and opens up to her finally telling the truth and showing how she feels.
Has one of you said: "I´m exhausted" after a reaction once? Well... prepair to be emotionally exhausted even more. This is not a sprint for single episodes, it´s a marathon to the end of the season.

The end of the episode with Luz and Amity underneath the tree was absolutely sweet and perfectly visualised. And the fact that they ended it seeing her mum also with a flower by the window was really wonderful. The way they express genuine emotions in this story is so great, and I think truly appreciated by all fans of great storytelling.
If I'm remembering correctly, Dana or someone on the team said that if they were to continue the story past toh it would be an Eda spin-off of when she was younger, but there's no promise of that happening. Here's to hoping though because that would be so fuckin hype

Disney's official reason for the cancellation was that the show "doesn't fit the Disney brand." In regards to whether they knew before Season 2 aired, Season 2's episodes would have been worked on while Season 1 was airing, because usually shows are worked on a year before releasing. So they might have known halfway through working on Season 2 and that's why they had that long hiatus in the middle, because they had to rework things in order to give the show a fitting conclusion.

So in the Looking Glass ruins that episode there is a slide in the library while luz is looking for information on the journal there's like a newspaper clipping that mentions a box of human junk just coming up washing over on shore and in that box of human junk we can actually see the Azora books. So the fact that the books were nothing special were actually told to us in episode 5 of season 2 but it's not a thing that a lot of people caught because it's a background detail honestly the only reason I know it is because I watched a ton of channels at the time that over analyzed every single thing about this show
Just watching that scene about Luz's dad for the first time just made me cry... I was not expecting for that kind of narrative and that hurted

Damn, that cult metaphor to describe Hunter's attitude prior is really accurate, as someone who had a similar experience, leaving a cult and finding that there is so much outside of it that's a very very accurate depiction.
I do love what they did with Amity's siblings. Ngl in their first episode I HATED them, I didn't want another troublemaker siblings trope that had been done to death. So imagine my delight and surprise when literally in their next appearance they've gone from being minor antagonists to apologetic chaotic neutrals who actually help put now and then. Also I think Emera actually looks cuter without her concealment stone :p
The ending of season 2 was always supposed to end like it did(main plot, no spoilers, but you guys will know when you watch the finale) what got sped up or cut were other plot points, secondary stories and fun episodes like a beach episode or Luz' quiceañera, but the main story was always supposed to end there.
Lol fun fact: Nosa is actually a character that Dana has used to represent herself even before the show 😂😂 She even voices her own character
I have loved Gravity Falls and watched it so many times! I've gone back and forth about it and I do like Owl House a little more. Partially just because it's newer and a bit more modern. I just love so many characters so much! It's fun you guys can be part of the theorizing with us before S3. comes out!
H man is right. It was a popular fan theory that Luz’s mom was a witch and wrote the good witch Azura books. Pretty much every theory they bring up in this episode was a fan theory, and they were just making fun of them.

The Owl House just feels more important than Gravity Falls. The representation just can't be beat. It absolutely helps that the story lines and the characters and their relationships are so good.
The girl with the big nose and anger issues is actually a caricature of Dana Terrace, the creator of TOH, drawn by Alex Hirsch. He used to tease her about it and she thought it was hilarious and put it into the show.

In the past, there was a separation between the producers and the publishers. If a series was discontinued on one station, the producers could simply look for a new one. Nowadays, series are produced within the TV stations. This makes the producers very dependent. "The Owl House" is "DISNEYS The Owl House". The moment the producers present a series to a TV station and the station agrees, they have already lost their rights to it. Series that have been continued by Netflix, for example, were bought by Netflix from the other broadcasters, not from the producers. Thus, the producer of The Owl House has no opportunity to produce the series elsewhere unless a station buys the rights from Disney, which is very unlikely.

The reason it was fully cancelled was that disney channel as a brand is rebranding itself to be for a younger audience with no serialized storytelling like gravity falls, amphibia and owl house. They really should have moved production to disney plus rather then fully cancelling but that was the main reason why. It’s incredibly frustrating especially since it is disneys first same sex couple, but I like to see it as the catalyst for more eventual stories to be told similarly. I hold hope for spin-off projects or continuations but you never know. I try not to look at it too negatively, just love the art we got!

I found about this show some time ago and wow, i shat on Disney for the SW sequels, but i didn't fanboy about it, but when I found out that this show was cancelled after I finished S1, like, why? what the actual fuck is wrong with the Disney corpos? It's like they hate money, I fell in love with this show and those fools just killed it before I even knew and it only got worse after details and bits about the cut and cancelled stuff came to the light, it's insane.

35:23 i think the reason is the similar to the same reason as the one that killed Infinity Train. Supposedly the executive that cancelled it stated that it didn’t fit the image they wanted. Disney channel currently has cartoons that are not story focused/heavy. I think the idea is to move away from darker story shows and more child friendly comedy focused stories that are easily digestible.
So on one hand I’m glad it’s likely not an LGTBA issue, but rather some idiot in charge thinks it’s better to not focus on streaming service friendly shows and rather the baby crowd..
