We travel to Costa Rica every year. Their food is hands down the best we have eaten on any vacation and we have traveled the world.
Never thought you'd ever go to Costa Rica! The cuisine, while much simpler than it's neighbors, is rooted in using the freshest and best ingredients, which makes everything taste amazing. I hope you make it to the Central market in San Jose, which opened in 1880 and has some of the best food in the country. Also across the street from it is a butcher shop that has the best fried chicken I've ever had!
I mean...I don't know about anyone else, but the first dish I always think of when I consider a Costa Rican breakfast is a chunky chocolate blizzard 😅

Mike!! I am very happy that you are in my country Costa Rica!! Fast food restaurants in Costa Rica are generally very beautiful and very clean, perhaps because people go to the restaurant to eat and not like here in the USA where people only order for takeout … And yes, McDonald's chicken is a star here among the “Ticos”.

That is the current standard McDonald's corporate decor style. We just had one near my house in LA remodeled and it looks exactly like that. Same furniture etc.

Wow, I love the big, juicy patties..in Germany they are usually thin and on the drier side. This is why I usually eat chicken, because you can choke on the beef patties 🤣
I love the rodeo burger ours doesn’t have it on the menu anymore but they will still make it if you ask. :) and ranch is good on everything :) burgers, fries, onion rings. All kinds of things :) Ketchup and Mayo also great for the fries we do that too :)
Hey Mike, I don't know if you're still here in Costa Rica, but you should definitely visit Barrio Escalante. It's supposed to be a fancy, cultural and gastronomic place where you can find different establishments with all types of food.
Yucca fries are delicious!!! My sisters all have husbands/ex-husbands from el Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and we all love Puruvian chicken with rice and yucca 🤤😋❤️

I can truly say whether Mikey was "fooled" or paid by the foreign representation or not that I have never EVER heard a U. S McDonalds described as "beautiful"
I've been to McDonalds in the US that look similar. Never once did I think it was beautiful.
I think the implication of using "beautiful" was more along the lines of "clean". Usually when I go to a local McDonalds (even in nicer places) there's junk needing to be mopped all over the floor and half the tables are dirty with leftovers, and the less said about the bathrooms the better. They may have a similar layout but the care taken in maintaining it makes all the difference.

I am glad that you are enjoying Costa Rica.
I recommend that you visit "Puerto Viejo" is one of the most touristic places that Costa Rica has, and with more culture of the same, there you will find all the typical food that you want.

The rodeo burger isnt on a secret menu in the states. Its being served on thier regular menu.
I don't know how true this is but I've heard that many of these companies only develop their foreign business. So we can expect to see the big chains exactly where they were thirty years ago while their offerings in other countries will keep getting better
It's usually because it's handled by a branch of McD's for example thats native to the country. The same McDs in the US isn't directly managing the ones abroad hence why they're different in the first place to cater to the local market and may bring out limited edition items or be a bit more daring with their choices.
I went to a Burger King in Switzerland and it blew my freaking mind how much better it was than here in Costa Rica
in other parts of the world fast food isn’t a cheap option so they have to conform to local standards to stay alive

OMGGG, I was just in Costa Rica last week. We had a blast, but surprising food costs were around the same price as the states. Ubers are cheap AF in Costa Rica tho!

Well, most 'fry sauce' or 'secret sauce" are ketchup and mayo based, so he has, he just doesn't realize it.

3:57 that's not butter, that's natilla(sour cream) we(Costa Ricans) eat it with the gallo pinto or tortillas. We don't spread it, we pour it.

The first time I ever got stoned… I ate a rodeo burger……and I was convinced it was the best thing ever created.
Surprised they have gallo pinto now on McDonalds, even more surprised they used cilantro for it back when I lived in CR they mostly used culantro coyote or culantro (also commonly used in Panama) which is more flavorful than regular cilantro/coriander.
Mcdonalds had offered Gallo pinto since the 90s in Costa Rica I think

Burger king’s Zesty sauce with the onion rings is where it’s at! Really any horseradish sauce with onion rings.
Thank's Mike introducing the Burger King in Costa Rica because I love very much the Burger King food in Whopper and Onion Rings rather than eat in McDonald's.I only can find two Burger King restaurants in Hong kong here,one is in the Hong Kong International Airport and the other one is on The Peak in Hong Kong Island.

Rodeo cheeseburger is on the value menu in the states not a secret menu, had 3 for lunch today. Like 1.99$ each.

McD's abroad has some very good fried chicken. In Sri Lanka they sell it with buriyani rice and both are so good!

McDonald's doesn't do pie variations in the USA my guess is because they don't fry the damn things anymore all there apple pies are baked it not like back in the day when they used to be fried.
