As the teacher at the Long Island High School for the Arts that played the Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, & John Pizzarelli CD's for Vinny that inspired him, I couldn't be prouder of the musician he turned into. It's always a thrill for a teacher/mentor to see students go on to be successful. I'm proud to now call Vinny a dear friend and we've had the chance to perform together a few times since he graduated high school. I look forward to playing drums behind Vinny again sometime in the near future. Vinny you're the best. With much love...........Jerry
Vinny, you keep talking about other players being "masters of their craft" and how honored you are to play with them. Do you not realize YOU are also a "master of your craft" and they are honored to play with you? It takes a truly talented and knowledgeable musician to make everyone who plays with them sound better. Nobody does it any better than Vinny Raniolo
I bet Vinny isn't super nice or stupid enough to jam with some illiterate heavy metal guitarist: I bet he's constantly turning down offers to jam from music shipwrecks.
Vinny Raniolo e Frank Vignola sono emigrati di origini italoamericani di Ragusa le origini dei suoi genitori di Raniolo mi sembra per Vignola provincia di Modena. Si,grandissimi profezionisti è un onore...
❤I Adore your talent an the gift of music you share with us Me 😊As I listen to all of your music I think of my father-he’d be 104 if he was still here. He would have loved your music ! Because of him I grew up listening to jazz and big band, especially Glenn Miller. I always remember the music coming from the garage 🎶🎵as a kid . Now I’m almost 60! 😆 I’m glad I found this video ( you’re a baby ! So young! ) Keep giving young people such good advice "all that you need to know is songs “ all eras ❤music ! I love to hear and listen to your music . Please keep playing! ❤❤❤❤ your music is a gift, wishing you the best always Vinny ! Yours truly a big fan ! Noramae Gutshall-Gomez ( Cricket) ♥️🎶

Very glad to find this -- Vinny is an extremely talented player. He speaks about his rhythm role, but here he's demonstrating his facility in the chord melody style. Wonderful stuff!
Elegant, interesting and beautiful. I've been listening to you and Franky for ages, but I've listened closely to your solo performance tonight, here on this video. Enthralling, a joy to listen to. Thanks.
He is a master.. true thing.. being a great rhythm player is I feel the hardest thing, I know people who say they are lead players but are not any good at chord work.. Vinny is great!! I really liked him, Frank and Tommy Emmanuel together..
Shit! This guy is so much better than just a rhythm guitar player, which he no doubt does very well too. I'm so often let down by jazz guitarists that have a rather dull formulaic approach to playing, but not this time.
Hey Vinny, You’re so awesome! Just wondering are you and Tatiana married? You’re so cute together in the Avalon Jazz Band plus great musical artists as well! Luv listening and watching y’all’s band. Hope y’all have many more years together. Stay true! Luv, Sarah
+Tobias Brodtkorb Thanks for helping, Tobias. It's definitely a jazz classic; I can almost put words to it. I'll leave the question out there, and hope that someone else recognizes it. Thanks again, PickerDad
I wonder why he plays a flat top, rather than the typical archtop... that chord melody work, the slides on the treble strings, etc., would sound just killer on an old L5. Sounds fine on the Collings, but for jazz... does he ever explain this?
He's also got a Guild Artist Award he plays on some of his videos. I like the sound he gets out of the Collings. Very versatile guitar. I was so impressed I went out and got one. It's got a longer scale length than a Gibson archtop so it's louder and stays in tune better. Outstanding build quality too -- well above Gibson's standards.
I asked Vinny and Frank why their guitars were so different when they play together. They said the difference in the sound of their guitars is what they want for the audience. Not sure if that's why Vinny plays the flat top by himself or if it just evolved because of their duo.

Vinny is a great accompanist and a solo player that deserves a lot more exposure and recognition!

Cannot believe that I just came across this. Not just an interview but a masterclass on plectrum-style chord melody and chord soloing.
Vinny is not only a world class guitarist, he is also a super nice guy!
I bet Vinny isn't super nice or stupid enough to jam with some illiterate heavy metal guitarist: I bet he's constantly turning down offers to jam from music shipwrecks.
Vinny and Frank are legends! This guys rhythm and lead playing is exceptional X
It's absolutely delightful to listen to Vinny's music. In his style he's second to NONE.
Without someone as talented as Vinny Raniolo, and there are very few, Only helps Frank Vignola sound better.

Soooo good, Vinny! You are just one of those who can make everyone around you shine while you humbly take a back seat. Respect bro!
Perfection! This guy is an extraordinary musician!
What a lovely man. His ability exceeds his modesty by a long measure. Beautiful clean sound and an effortless mastery of harmony, line and rhythm.

Vinnie is always a pleasure to listen to
I'm glad Vinny Raniolo endorses Wayne Wright at about 4:30 . Wright is probably the most underrated rhythm guitarist I know of. Thanks.
Truly very impressive.
Hard work pays off. Color me jealous. ;p
Outstanding! Such a humble guy
He is a master.. true thing.. being a great rhythm player is I feel the hardest thing, I know people who say they are lead players but are not any good at chord work.. Vinny is great!! I really liked him, Frank and Tommy Emmanuel together..
He"s a great guitarist and really provides space for Frank and Tommy when you watch their videos. Great interview!
Vinny is a great guitarist, and he's a great accompanist with Frank.
Vinny; You are a very sympathic Person...and you play very well the guitar!
How can a great musician be so modest.
Ken weedon
I love how Vinny ends almost every song with that little inward smile.
It's obvious by his playing that his work and dedication have paid off.
Vinny ....you are amazing ! Learn the showman stuff and you will blow the world away !!! Magic !
One of the greats, jazz guitar is in very good hands.
Told you that you were a GREAT player Vinny. Chris.
I thought that I did Wonderful World until I heard Vinny really do it! Damn he's great!
Great choice of lively songs.

Anyone know the name of the song that started about 17:39?
sounds like what a wonderful world to me
Yup, Wonderful World is certainly in the medley. The song immediately before WW that's driving me crazy. I know it, but I can't name it.
to me it just sounds like an intro... But it could be frome another tune of course. i wouldn't know :)

The song just before "What a Wonderful World" is "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" -- begins at 16:38.
Does anyone know what that piece was at the beginning?
"Stompin' at the Savoy," a jazz/swing standard.

"Ey Vinny! Play da thing ya' know? Ya' know, da thing? Da badda-bing badda-boom thing. Ya' know?"
Fucking A, great playing
What are the songs that start at 04:47 (familiar but can't place it), 08:23 (less familiar) and 13:17 (don't know it)?

at about 5:45 Vinny discusses the choice of the Collings SJ
Who makes his cutaway acoustic he's playing in the video.
Collings
Better than the Beatles, that's for sure.
