Adrian has saved my life at times when I needed a haven. I've listened to these songs literally hundreds of times. I love it soulfully. When I'm alone and sad and hurt, I go to Adrian and find some peace late at night in the dark. I don't know what it is only that it's just right for me. Thank you Adrian for being alive. You don't even know!!
I met Adrian in St Agnes in Cornwall in 1969. He was playing in a country band. He was the first guitarist I'd heard that made his Telecaster sound like a pedal steel guitar (no B bender, just skill) he gave me a few tips. Saw him in the bar the next lunchtime and he beat me at darts too! Legend.
I played this tune once in a very noisy cafe at an open mic and within 1 minute of the opening lines the entire venue went silent. That's the power of this piece.
i remember seeing legg live in madrid, opening for satriani. nobody knew him and nobody knew what to expect. then this serene-looking man walks onto the stage, starts playing while changing the tuning on his guitar, and blew us away. it was really special, he filled the room with magic and he transmitted his good nature through his playing and presence. shame i didn't get to meet him after the show.
Those discordant notes are precious.......! I'm so thankful to have seen Adrian Legg open for G3 at the Snitcher concert hall in Portland OR back in the 1990's. I had never even heard of him, but he stole the show from Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, and Joe Satrinai... After Adrian played, his playing was SO beautiful, that I couldn't stand to listen to the rest of them. Eric Johnson came on next, and played way too loud. Adrian of course knew exactly how loud to play on his Ovation acoustic. The electric guys who came on after him forgot it was a CONCERT HALL designed for good acoustics, so they played WAY too loudly. Even so, I'll never forget Adrian Legg that night, and I've loved his musicianship ever since. He is a musical genius, with few peers......
Which discordant notes? Would you mean notes that are not in the normal musical scale he is playing in? I would venture to guess you might be thinking of those. Chromatic tones vs. diatonic tones are very common in complex harmony. They bring richness to otherwise "expected" harmonic movement in a piece. I absolutely LOVE their sound! ♥
absolutely beautiful , joy inspiring music . you sir are one of the best . i remember seeing you on tv in the early 90s , i was mezmorized and this music along with being introduced to bela fleck around the same time , changed my life as far as music went . ive never since been a fan of formula radio music. the haunting harmonics and strange feeling mid song detuning is just amazing. you opened my mind. thank you .-ps , who were your inspirations and influences that make you write the styles of music that you do ?
Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. I just want to say that this man's music makes me really emotional, & there's something sort of superhuman about the way he plays guitar.
Back in the late 80's, I was fortunate enough to see Adrian a number of times in the UK. At the time I was working in a music shop and Adrian used to demo Ovation Guitars for Rose Morris (a UK musical instrument distributor). He was always completely charming, funny, self-deprecating and a joy to chat to. Then there was his playing ability and song writing skills!
Love this man! Have seen him twice in Minn. Incredible, wonderful human being. Adrian if you see this thank you. Thank you for this song. I dedicate it to my own Irish Girl. Her name is Amy and she is everything beautiful to me... She makes me the strongest man alive if I should have to defend her, the softest man when I touch her... I would so love to hear it live with her and you playing it! I hope you come back to Mn soon.... Thank you Adrian for your music.
Adrian Legg is one of the few players I would consider to be a great musician as well as a great guitarist...and he IS a totally cool dude. I met him after a concert in Dallas a couple of years ago...not sure when the next album comes out, or what will be on it...but I will have to be one of the first. I will continue my distant study under him likely for the rest of my life....the Genius Legg
I saw Adrian Legg at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA ( early 90's). I was so touched by his beautiful, emotional playing,,, I cried. I don't think I was the only one. So sensual.
I think I saw Adrian twice at the G3 concert at Shepherd’s Bush empire in spring/summer 1997. Beautiful. Prior to that, i think he supported Satriani at Hammersmith in early 1993 on JS’s Extremist Tour, which was superb.
This is my utmost favorite song from Guitars & Other Cathedrals. To say this piece is beautiful is an understatement, really. Words, such paltry things :D
many people who know him sais his a really good person and a nice treating guy...just listening this great music i think:""It must be true"""...long live Adrian...
Oh this is very beautiful... I just made a recording of a song by the same name and this one came up as being related. I am so glad to have found it, very, very lovely...
The first time I heard this song was Adrian playing it at a Jazz festival in Canada (Montreal?) many moons ago. And the tempo was quicker. So when I listen to this I have to adjust my playback speed to 1.25 to bring back that feeling!
Christ, I first heard this many years ago when ITV started running through the night, NIGHT NETWORK I think it was called. If you truly read through your comments, Adrian, I'd be enthralled to hear of any comments you have on your music at this time. When I revisited this song years and years later it took me ages to find it as you'd changed your name to Legg. For what it's worth I prefered Love but its a beautiful piece whatever.
I actually maintain the channel and was the person who recorded Adrians show. I'm not very good at it by the way LOL. Adrians tunings can be found on his site, and transcribing his songs is what is so much fun. His fingers are like hammers. He is a guitar god.
@Mikeguitaro Over the years Adrian and I have became great friends. He is one of the nicest musicians I have ever met. His knowledge of music blows me away. Thank you for the comment. Adrian does check these videos/comments and such from time to time. I know you see him in class but little comments like this make it fun for me to do all of this for him :) Take care
Simply beautiful! I saw him perform at Mars Music (remember them??) in Dallas circa 1991. He presented a clinic / master class. And he blew me away. So musical, and with so much restraint. Easily, he has chops along the line of Tommy Emanual (sp?) and Leo Kottke, but he doesn't flash them. He doesn't have to. It is all about the music, not about technical prowess. Bravo!
those gigs with 20 or so people are sometimes the best mate! i totally understand what your saying but sometimes my band plays those kinds of gigs, there very intimate and its kind of nice to be honest, people seem to listen to the music much more when there's a smaller crowd. being with 20 or so people with someone playing this sort of music i can imagine being a wonderful experience! =)
+Bruno Reinaudi you need to get out more my friend. It is unfortunate we live in a world as we do , but I live in a place where I can throw a rock and hit 3 guitarist that will take this guy to the cleaners. Thats the truth of the matter. And I am speaking of "Fingerstyle" players. the industry is 99.99 percent hype . I would call this guy good, but I certainly would not call him an innovative fingerstyle player. But I do live in Nashville.
Wish I could take lessons from him! Where does he teach? What book is available? Did he make this guitar? If not, who is the maker? I love his style! Thanks for the post...
His chord progressions, at one point or another, remind me of the music of The Legend of Zelda, probably something from Ocarena of Time for me.....anyone else?
Saw Legg supporting Satriani at the NEC in 1997 It was awful. He made so many mistakes and even apologised at one point and tried to replay the end of one song ... and failed again.

You have to go to someone like Segovia to reach this level! This man is a TREASURE!

@J M well...that's a bit extreme!
Did Adrian open for other shows on that G3 tour? I’d swear I saw him in Detroit.
@@echo1172 I know he played AJ Palumbo Theater at Pitt State on that tour.

Easily one of my favorites. His use of harmonics, the tone and cadence of this tune - awesome. Very calming to listen to.

One of my favorite songs from my favorite albums by one of my favorite guitarists. Long live Adrian Legg!
Had the privilege of seeing him play this live once...incredible
Great song. It goes right through the deepest parts of my soul.
I usually watch it for three times or more.
Adrian Legg is the best.
My gosh you are brave. Once is enough to break me into tears.
Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. I just want to say that this man's music makes me really emotional, & there's something sort of superhuman about the way he plays guitar.
"Guitar for Cathedrals" is a classic and Mr. Legg is a humble icon of fingerstyle and song. Thanks for the post and warm regards.
Divine. Brings tears to my eyes. What a gift of love to all humankind.

What an extraordinary, unique musician! Uncomparable.

A master guitarist. I bought a cassette when I was a metalhead kid. It forever changed the way I looked at music.
Thank you, Mr. Legg
is a shame you not better known mr. Legg,..but True talent often overlooked these days.
Truly a genius! The best guitarist of all time! I’m envious of those who have seen Adrian perform, it’s on my bucket list!
4 years later I still love this piece. I cannot understand why this channel doesn’t have a million subscribers!
I saw Adrian Legg at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA ( early 90's). I was so touched by his beautiful, emotional playing,,, I cried. I don't think I was the only one. So sensual.
Such a beautiful, haunting song. Thanks for sharing this talent with the world!

Saw him twice in the mid nineties, both small venues. Absolutely awe inspiring playing!
still listen to this..really touch me this one.
Indescribably beautiful.

I just discovered you via a post on FB from Eric Johnson. Absolutely mesmerizing.

Did a perfectly fine job recording this one, thanks. Another youtube treasure.
Exotic, peaceful, beautiful and charmous. Reminds me of an Irish girl i'v met...
Made me cry man😭 completely beautiful.
Oh, thanks Bret.

I'm going to see Mr Legg perform in a couple of weeks...I am so looking forward to the show!
Dripping with musical taste and melodic invention. Love it!
One of the very best fingerstyle guitar songs I have ever heard. Thank you Adrian.

Richie Blackmore says Adrian Legg is a brilliant guitarist . So true.
Thanks for the music. Lovely tune and a great fingerstyle piece to learn, not too difficult and very rewarding.

Nice one Adrian !
I really cannot understand the 3 dislikes, probably they are outstanding (and envious) guitarists ...

Always wanted to learn open tune guitar.
Saw this piece in a magazine. Had no idea what it was supposed to sound like, so I came up with my own bastard version.
Mr. Legg's is far better.

Glad to have inspired you.
@Mikeguitaro I'd take guitar with Adrian in Brighton if I could!
