- Being big fans of the Zeiss DSLR lens line, we were excited when we heard about the new Touit lenses for mirrorless cameras. So TCSTV's Chris Niccolls went to document the destruction from the Calgary flooding with these new optics.
Shot and Edited by Jordan Drake
Filmed on the Sony FS700
Thoughtful video. I really liked it when I saw it a year ago. I'm even more impressed now.
Glad you are all OK, and thanks for the great video and photos.
It’s crazy how just the video quality here has changed in a few years.
I must admit it was just more interesting to see what was going on in Calgary than seeing how good are those lenses. Good video, as always.
I love every review from you guys, the best the most honest useful review, and not just a fanboy talk from reviewers that love everything they get to review. Thanks, I wish you guys had more reviews!
You are the masters of cameras/lenses reviews... but it's a shame that you only do one in a decade ! i wish to see more in the future !
As a Fuji shooter, I own and love both of these lenses because there is simply no substitute for the classic Zeiss rendering. I can't really justify owning the 50mm macro because it would be rarely used, but I wish there were a few more nice Touit primes.
Sad to see such damage but its great the way the community pulls together
I have the 12mm Fuji mount and my only complaints are the loose aperture ring and the quality of the lens hood. Other than that, I am very happy owning my first Zeiss lens.
The store was two blocks away from the flooding, it just missed us.

Thanks for the review! Enjoy your vacations, separately! Cheers.
Superb shots!
In the last couple videos, I've noticed that they are a bit jerky and they don't look as well graded as they used to (i.e. look like they are straight from the camera). The videos are sharp, but the colors are "flatter" than they used to be. Have you made any recent changes to your post process?
TCS has always been one of the best examples of top notch video on UA-cam. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look BAD, it is just that the recent videos don't seem up to the level of past videos.
So sad to see what's happened to Calgary :( That music didn't help either...
Glad to see you all are alright...
Hold tight and together, that's the best way to overcome issues...
Regards :)
What are your thoughts on the Sony 10-18mm?
Thanks
Best reviewers on UA-cam.
Actually they are not really selling cameras. I watch the Camera Store videos all the time and I've never bought equipment from them. I would have to say that this was a good Job by Chris and the group....even through the midst of all this tragedy they are still willing to do video reviews. My respect goes out to you all Chris and not all of us in Texas share the views of my friend above. Wishing you all the best!
thanks for the review, my question would be: which lens would you choose, based on price and image quality (never mind the focal length, please), the 24mm f/1.8 by sony/zeiss or the 32mm f/1.8 by zeiss? i usually do some street photography with my camera and also some portraits (whole body shots and a bit closer up).
@Jordan Chris used to be so green :P
Thanks guys ... enjoy your vacation ... but don't stop shooting and get your gear out :)
Great that the floods missed you.
Sony does have a decent 35/1.8 no? It is not very far from 32/1.8 and less than half the price.
Oh and one question how is the bokeh of the 32/1.8? I love the 24/1.8 for the smooth creamy defocus
Great Video!
Chris please review the supposedly magical fuji 14mm and the 55-200 zoom..cheers mate
you guys have a view on the Sony Vario sonnar T 16-70mm zeiss lens? looking at that with the sony a6300. alternatively looking at the Fuji xt20 with the 18-55mm and 10-24. like the range with 16-70mm but don't want to sacrifice image quality vs the fuji
What would be your views on the sony 35mm f 1.8 which is more than half the price of the zeiss 32mm f 1.8?
would you prefer the x-e1 or nex-6 with these lenses?
True - I shot Zeiss 24/1.8 this evenging on NEX-7 and 1/60th shots are clearly blurred. I belive Zeiss is afraid from the additional optical element. Planar is very elegant and simple design. You know Canon still make two versions IS and non-IS...
hi can you pls have a review on 35mm 0.95 hyperprime lens.. pls tnx
will you guys will review Olympus
lens ?
One more comment Optical Stbailization typically has some minor and negative efect on image quality, so it may take a while until Zeiss puts stabilization.
Is it manual or auto focus ?
I have a feeling that this video is too short...especially with the picuture view...CAN you guys make it at least 8 sec...?
I agree on that focus ring complains, it should be ribbed metal (or like last variant of Voigtlaender lens for Nikon/Canon). Olympus managed to do very good "fake" focusing ring on 12/2, I see no reason why Zeiss shouldnt too. Tho at first place I dont know why isnt focusing ring really focusing ring (direct link, not focus-by-wire). Could be mirrorless limitation.
I dont agree about not being good for X-system. Fuji X-system lens dont have much character (if any), Zeiss lens have some.
What lens did you use to record this vdo? It looks so much yellow
He looks like Mac from always sunny.
Mac's nicer, half brother from an asian mother
JGasPhoto 1 Mac's way hotter
If you turn the focus ring past infinite does it stay at infinite or snake back towards the minimum focus?
Just stops at infinity / min., no matter how much you spin beyond, as its a Focus-By-Wire mechanism. Any tidy / pancake prime with a blank ring, and just to name one (Olympus 45mm 1.8), works in this manner
Untrue though commonly claimed. ILIS can be turned off (or auto-shuts-down anyway) during tripod use. During handheld use the blur-tolerance for ILIS is dwarfed by the exponentially lesser tolerance afforded even the stillest of human hands.
The toit lens...can zoom?
Why is your hand shaking so much while you hold both the lens XD
"separately" ha ha
Best of wishes with the recovery efforts!
what happened in Canada?
You're a real asset to your community. People are volunteering to dig out victims, while your selling camera lenses.
I hope those first responders did not get in your way. ....
did he just say Fuji has affordable lenses???
+Joseph Kim better stick to own original lens.
in comparison to the zeiss lenses
Check out the Nikon or Canon lenses' prices.
the production unit touit doesnt have the "CARL"..only ZEISS
Wow!
Are they full frame compatible with the A7 Alpha?
If you are talking about the sony a7 e-mount camera yes, but they are not compatible with sony's a-mount cameras.
no, these cover aps-c only
The 32mm 1.8 is a gem... I own one and have shot a few hundred images with it now.
You can go to Flickr and simply search "zeisstouit brucebachand" for examples.
"Crap" maybe not, expensive for value probably yes.
And it's clear why Zeiss don't go for m4/3:in a system wich already have a good choice of lenses, their product will be a niche in a niche.
the rubber looks cheap, as long with the design, is definitely not worth the branding of the ziess touit (as well as the lack of internal IS) . i do miss the minolta md/mc mount glasses with that immense build quality. with m mount lens like the voigtlander competing for the fuji mount system, this lineup will not do well in my humble opinion.
I said the same thing about that damned rubber ring! Get rid of that rubber!
Photos lack zip and are all underexposed. Very dark, low contrast results.
Yea and I think you pronounce Zeiss wrong, but it doesnt matter much. :D
Canon offers IS, non-IS for pricing stratification. Even so they are increasingly moving into an era of full-IS. Even wide lenses, were previously the advantage of IS was recognized as too marginal to be worth it, are proving to benefit from current IS, much less next generation. If it works for wide-angle, were hand-held is hurt least and IS is least effective, it works...period.
Crimestoppers in Canada.....
'Too-it' means 'small' in Khmer; no kidding;
1st
뭐라는거야🇰🇷
very moody at the end.
Both lenses are CRAP!! Sigma Art DN lenses seem way better option. The only "selling point" is the CZ name. The ONE serious lens is the 24mm f/1.8 carl zeiss lens that came out first with the NEX-7. Noting in the market that beats it - till now.
He doesn’t know zeiss lens. He doesn’t know how to pronounce touit, so I don’t believe his opinion
So between the Fuji 27mm & Zeiss 32mm on a Fuji whats your pick?
currently in that same predicament, did you ever choose one or the other?
