    Just started the backsplash behind my range using subway tile and these Penney tiles. Should have watched this first. That looks pretty cool .

    I have nothing that needs tiling, and no desire to find someone to tile for, but you made it look so easy Harki! Now I want to give it a try. 🤣

      Lol don’t do it if you don’t have to….🤪
      It’s like a marathon you hit a wall during the tiling and just have to push through it.

    Hoo boy Harki, you made that look so easy. I've never seen these kind of tiles installed before so I was slightly disappointed to see you didn't put all the little pennies on one at a time. Now that would have been a long video! Cheers mate.

      Glad it helped, best to just rent a sliding tile saw as it will make you life a lot easier, and buy some good quality tile nippers.

    Good job on that install Harki 👍. I was surprised that the tile cutter could cut it perfectly. I thought those small penny tiles would all chip or shatter and tear away, haha

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  Рік тому +1

      Thanks mate, yeah chipping isn’t the issue, it’s that they move around when cutting them unless you taped them down. I need a laser cutter like you have for tile…lol

    Some good info there. Thanks for taking the time to share.
    Only thing is I was hoping to learn more about the inside corner of the wall. More to the point how to get them to interlock in the very corner. Thanks!

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  Рік тому +1

      You are right on that, that was a missed opportunity my part. Basically what I did was to ensure the best I can that it looks like a continuation, meaning it looks like a whole tile even though it’s a corner. So for example if I ended up with a third of a penny time on one side I try and make the other side start at 2 thirds. Not sure if I make sense, but it’s what looks good to the eye

    Wonderful tutorial! You said the switch plate will cover the tile so you weren’t concerned about it being perfect. I need to make sure I understand before I start- I would think the tile would need to butt up to the plate because the screws are so tiny they won’t screw the plate back in if they sit on top of the tile. Will you please clarify? Thanks so much- I’m feeling a little more confident!

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting. The tile should not butt up to the switch wall plate. The switch wall plate should always be on top of the tile.
      So you ask a good question on how you screw on the plate, there are basically two options, what I did was to use electrical out let extenders that allows you to extend the switch out so that the switch plate fits flush to the outlet. I have another short video on how to do that here:
      How to Extend Electrical Outlets to be Flush with the wall

    Thanks! Definitely subbing after this tutorial. Very easy to understand for a beginner, and your other videos are things I'd like to learn. I'm just beginning to tile my kitchen backsplash. Now you've got me thinking I should take it all the way up the wall. We'll see. lol I had to remove outdated tile which left a few holes in the drywall. Still trying to figure out if I should just patch and sand the drywall or replace it with a 1/4" or 1/2"cement backer board. Don't know why I'm afraid to drywall, but I am. Just seems so flimsy. Cement board, screws, and mesh tape seem easier for me to handle for some reason. Which route would you take if you were a beginner?

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for the kind words. Cement board may be an overkill for a backsplash, I would go for drywall myself. You can just patch the bad spots in the drywall with joint compound.
      Taking the tile all the way up looks nice for sure, just need to make sure you absolutely love the tile…lol…

    How do you extend electrical outlets from. The wall? Great video!

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, to extend the outlets see my quick video at the link below on how to do that:
      ua-cam.com/video/7w8yjY7hBA4/v-deo.htmlsi=WVyzClmPRyhsvZF_
      I got my spacers from Amazon, or go to your hardware store and ask them for electrical outlet extenders. You have many different options. Hopefully that helps

    Is it okay to go right over painted drywall? I thought it would need a cement board or something similar to build a lasting bond. Just curious! Thanks!

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  7 місяців тому +2

      Depends on the paint that was used on the wall. If it’s gloss paint then I think you should think about prepping that surface prior to tiling. I have tiled over matt finish paint with no issues.

    any tips for spacing and how to avoid seams?

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  Місяць тому +1

      I eyeballed the spacing, and the tiles are off set with each other so hard to see the seam. The key is spacing, if you don’t want to eyeball it, you can try and see if you can use tile spacers.
      To be honest for me eyeballing was easier, just stick the tile sheet to the wall step back and see if it looks seamless.
      You can also offer the whole tile sheet, like a brick wall.
      Not sure if any of that helps ?

    My penny tiles will be above a vanity, so they won't go wall to wall... how do you recommend sealing the edges? Would you finish on half pennies or full pennies? Would you use a tile edge or just caulk? Thanks!

    • @LonghornWorkshop
      @LonghornWorkshop  10 місяців тому +2

      You have a few options. You can finish the edges with pencil tiles, they come in different colors so that will look nice. Or you can finish the edge with a metal SCHLUTER edge. SCHLUTER has a few different profiles so you can select what you like and they come in 8 feet long size so it’s easier to work with. Just google SCHLUTER edge on you tube, and I think Lowes sells those. Those are your best options , hope that helps
