  • Today we take a look at the Hellfire Peninsula and how it has evolved from warcraft 2 through early alpha Vanilla builds up until the live version. Originally intended as a vanilla leveling zone, it was once going to have a vastly different design. Enjoy!

Unlike live version of Hellfire Peninsula , the vanilla version brings nostalgy for warcraft 3 - everything is tight and on a same plate, I don't know how to properly describe it, but it's nostalgic even though I've never seen it at the time.

    That's extremely cool video, man.
The old zone was made on vanilla textures and there was a feeling like you are in another part of Blasted Lands in Azeroth not another world. The changes, that Blizzard have made are quite cool, because it really shows that Draenor was completely destroyed by the cataclysms.
    Keep up good work, Hayven!

Old comment I know, but damn... that would have been so much better, with hindsight. I mean, BC was great. But the way it slotted into the game? It destroyed all vanilla level 60 content. If it had been another endgame tier, like AQ, with some massive attunement quest to open the dark portal or something... it would have made Outland so much more mysterious and thrilling; it would have been part of the epic journey, instead of just displacing the old endgame content.
And of course, because of how BC was implemented, that set the precedent. Every expansion after that made previous content increasingly redundant, instead of actually "expanding" the game.

+Tomasz Rymkiewicz It's quite possible that Alliance and Horde would have quested within Honor Hold together. During the earlier alpha days it was possible to form groups with Alliance and Horde and you could even communicate with the other side. That was until Blizzard decided that a little faction conflict would be nice...a story twist which haunts us until today as the story never progresses beyond the point of Horde vs Alliance.

I'm still pretty sore about the whole "broken Outland portal" thing introduced with _Warlords_, myself. It just doesn't make any sense that the Blasted Lands portal will send lower-level players to Outland, but the Outland portal is inert. Then again, the Blasted Lands portal was inert for quite some time, too, so I dunno... Blizzard does dumb things.

As much as I like the Live version of Hellfire, I feel this version is much better and does a very greater job at capturing the Hellfire that was known from WC2 and 3. If only Blizz stuck with this dedication to the existing lore they once had back in Vanilla instead of altering and retconning the existing lore every expac to fit with what they want to do. I still remember from the Vanilla Making of disc that they were originally only going to give the Druid class to Night Elf MALES. Now that is dedication to lore.

For people asking if we should get 1.13 or TBC after Naxx is cleared on Classic - as this video shows, we can have both. Vanilla had so many things in development that it could keep going for at least another year of back-to-back releases. I dearly hope that Blizzard remembers this.

They should finish too, the cut content for the release of new vanilla servers. The overall point would be to give a reason for players who anyway played vanilla. Any time a franchise pays attention to its core concepts and players, tyoucally leads to success for the franchise. For instance, finish vanilla-outland and copy it as a replacement to blasted lands. There failed to originally be much in blasted lands in vanilla.
This way Blizzard keeps to their original promise that they dislike 'repeating' themselves.

Definately like the expansiveness of the one we have in outland, the old place looks a little small, in my opinion, but i wish they kept the mushrooms the old ones had, otherwise, i love them both..
Honor Holds: the newer one looks nicer to me, though it could ALSO be using ruined buildings in addition to the no doubt recently-repaired ones.
Thrallmars: DEFINATELY loving the old thrallmar a bit more, all those ancient, orcish buildings have a HISTORY to them even more vast than the human's, just like the land they were built on.. you don't quite get that feeling with polished structures.
Pools of Aggonar: No comment, really, like them both.

  • @mancamiatipoola
    @mancamiatipoola 5 років тому

The Hellfire we got in TBC is very cool, but they should have kept at least some of the old dries up mushrooms and mushroom trunks to soothe the WC3 fanboys and keep the lore of hte zone intact. Also, the alliance and horde buildings should have had a reddish haze brick color since they were made from bricks quarried in Hellfire. Floating trees didnt make any sense so i am glad they scrapped that.
I think that when they were working in alpha WOW, they had great ambitions for hte world, and so they left 2 large zones unfinished: Hellfire and Mount Hyjal.

No. There was no connection between the Eastern Kingdoms and the Hellfire Peninsula. So just swimming wouldn't have got you there even if you could have avoided fatigue. You can see that really well when he shows the map: It shows landmasses and water, but there is only blackness between the continent and the testing zone.

I never feared the fel reaver. Aggro range isn't hard to learn haha

+GusMiccy Was never the aggro range we feared, it was the low draw distance at the start of TBC that let him sneak up on you ;)
