I like Don Felder. Great player without a monster ego. Terrible tale about his clashes with The two Eagles power brokers, Henley and Frey, but he gave them their biggest hit and some class. Loved the guitar duels with Joe Walsh too.
His solos were the best, songs within a song. The two best solos in Eagles history belong to Felder, Hotel Cali, and One of These Nights, which is a masterpiece guitar solo along the lines of Kid Charlemagne, Reelin in the Years, you name it.
I bought a blues cube hot,,,took it to a gig and wow,,just plugged straight in and it smokes. I have tons of amps mostly tube amps,,this little roland is light to carry and has a ton of guts, closest I have ever gotten to that warm tube tone from a solid state.
If Fender doesn't quick making so many great new products, I'll be broke. Using Don Felder to stump for you was an excellent choice. Watching him play a guitar is like watching someone falling in love; he always looks like he is surfing the clouds and it has made me playing my guitars with much more passion and commitment. Thanks
Been a "Fingers" fan since he played in my little hometown womens club back in late 60's in a band called The Continetals,, also had Stephen Stills in the band. Eagles never the same without him.
Man !!, you got to play with Stills you must have been pretty damn good :) , he's another giant talent, singer, songwriter, Superb Electric and Fantastic acoustic player.
I had one of the old versions of the Blues Cube back in the early 90's. I got asked many times from players (one of them a Chicago pro) on what kind of tube arrangement was in that amp. It sounded that good. When I told them none -- they were pretty taken aback. I imagine 20 years later, Roland has improved on that even more. It would be fun to stick the amp in a dovetail jointed, pine, lacquered tweed cabinet!
I got plugged into one of these a few months ago while trying out a guitar I thought it was some expensive boutique tube amp, I was shocked when I found out it was solid state I’ve ordered one and have started getting rid of my tube amps because the Blues Cube is more practical and has the tones I like.
I couldn't agree more. They seem to be kind of betraying the "official story" with the way they act in their senior years. Felder always just seems so genuinely nice. He's probably also one of the more underrated guitarists, given his achievements.
You got that right. The Eagles are not the Eagles without Felder. Having Joe and Don playing together elevated an Eagles show immeasurably. When Don was booted and they got the studio guy that they even refused to call a member, their sound went to anemic and sterile with a lot less fire. No offense to Steuart. He's a great player, just got thrown into a controversial role.
Felder is the best Lead Guitarist of the Eagles together with Joe Walsh. They have problems with unequal share in Money matters. The Two Lions wants a big share.
He is among the most classy performers ever. HIs playing technique is unmistakable, his vibrato, and that trademark "chick-a, chick-a" thing he does with his Herco beaded-edge picks. Then of course, there's that thing with his arm; his elbow comes up when he bends a string, it's really odd, but it hasn't hurt him none. He and Joe Walsh were the PERFECT pairing on stage and in the studio, both being distinctively different. He demos this amp as one would expect--brilliantly. God bless Don Felder. The Eagles lost their luster when he was let go, and they lost IT ALL when they added Deacon Frye and Vince Gill, despite their respective talents. As far as his time with The Eagles, his demands were higher than I believe they should have been. The success of "Hotel California" was in its guitars and the duet toward the end. Felder wrote the book on this one, and Joe Walsh said himself: "That was Don's baby." I think the fact he arranged the music for this landmark, anthemic song, made him believe he was entitled. I preferred The Eagles with Don, but it just wasn't meant to last.
I couldn't agree more. I've spent the last 4 years using nothing but a POD HD500 plugged into my stereo at home, the console in the studio and the PA at gigs. It's the best sounding, most dependable, most consistent thing I've ever used. And I had been a tube amp snob guy for 30 years. If I ever bought another amp, it'd be a full range, solid state unit just for stage fill or something of that nature.
I agree teerexness. It always suprised me that the earlier old Pod 2.0 had been such an industry standard for recording and used on so many hits back in the day. I'm definitely hanging on to mine.
Roland, I been using the 80w Artist and unbelievable amp!! Let's talk, I'm doing shows with the Gap Band and really need the 2x12!! This is my sound!!!
This amp is pretty amazing, but as far as the idea of playing dual channels(clean and overdrive) fender already did this in the Fender Deluxe 85 which has a selection called parrallel mode. It was a solid state red knob amp from the late 80s early 90s, one of the best solid states imo, with an amazing fender clean tone and reverb, i purchased 2 of them. I use them for everthing. I have quite a few valve amps new and vintage as well (im a gear hoarder of collector depending who you ask). But i think this blues cube is the next on my list. Thanks for posting!!
I have a Session Rockette 30 which can also do the dual channel thing (Clean & overdrive). Mine is from around 1981, solid state, built in the UK and still working well. Clapton used a couple of these small Session amps on his 'August' album from which his only No. 1 hit was taken... ...now that must be devastating news for the 'valve amp only' religion! Roland have consistently turned out some great amps including the Cube 30, 60 and their JC models. Like you graphicnick07, I can't wait to try the Blues Cube too. You can never have too many guitar amps lol.
I checked out the 60 watt version recently, and found that the adjustable power optins maintained the tone regardless of their settings, from 60 watts all the way down to 5 watts (60, 30, 15, 5). keep in mind he's playing the 2 x 12 85 watt version which is about $1100 new, so it will have a 'bloom' that perhaps the 1x12 amp lower wattage amps might not.
I was previously guilty of being a tube amp snob, but after seeing my hero Don Felder demo this amp I went and purchased the 80 watt "Artist" version. It really is what Roland claim, and I thoroughly recommend trying one, I think most people will be pleasantly surprised. That said, any amp played by Don Felder would sound fantastic though, as ultimately it's all in the fingers! ( Pun intended)!!!
Saw Don play with the Eagles back @ the Capital Theater in Passaic , NJ, back in the 70s. It was one of the first times he played live with them, so they said @ the show. Smokin' show! They ripped! After about a dozen Eagles tunes Glen said that was all they had worked on together. They then proceeded to rip in to covers by Chuck Berry, etc. Best damn bar band you ever heard! Too bad it ended up on such sour ground. Cotton Don added so much to their rockin' sound.
Just received mine and it really is all they say it is and more. This is not marketing hype it really does produce great tone.....at all volumes. I gave up using tube amps because of their weight and they only sound really good at high volumes. The a Fender Mustang is a great practice amp but just doesn't cut though on stage. This really is the answer to my prayers.
One of the most underrated guitar players, ok he's not a great singer but his tasty riffs were the base for some of the Eagles greatest songs yet he never got his full co-writing credit or recognition, Hotel California ? he wrote everything but the lyrics, the song would never have existed without him yet Fry and Henley got all the credit and the publishing money. You are either in a "band" or you are just hired help, I don't blame him for feeling cheated.
SuperStig23 I agree completely! Felder is just more soft spoken than Henley, so he was never a front-man, however his skills at guitar make Felder rated as one of my top ten best guitarists of all time. The Eagles sounded twangy-country pre-Felder. Felder helped The Eagles reach the sound we all know them for.
Its not digital, its just solid-state. It isnt a modeling amp its just a regular amplifier, its trying to be his own thing. Sounds kick ass and fair priced for what it offers.
I dunno dude, with the switchable power settings, I think you'd be more than happy with this one for home-studio use. And if you really need a 10" speaker for whatever reason just plug into an extension cab.
I'm interested in buying this amp. but the smaller version {60w Stage} Does anyone know if this will be ok for a live setting with drums etc ... can this compete ?
The Eagles without Don Felder’s sound is not the Eagles I loved. In fact I’ve think the latest attempts of the “Eagles” is more like a cover band rendition of the true Eagles sound. It’s a shame ego’s don’t recognize the contribution of each player equally.
Boss/Roland is really showing they are the Standard to compare to in Amp technology. I have one of these and a Boss Katana ll head. Remarkable technology.
I'm not a tube purist, and I do love the sound of this amp...but I'm pretty damn sure it's digital with solid-state power section. The whole "Tube Logic" technology thing sound exactly like modeling. The only difference is that instead of offering a buttload of mediocre models, this amp offers a small handful of really great ones, suited for those who would be in the market for tweed-style amps. (i.e. NOT metalheads and shredders)
Apparently it's not digital and is completely solid state although modelling has got very good in it's own right, in fact it's getting hard to tell the difference these days.
All of the Roland amps are absolutely top quality,, using BOSS effects never hurts a thing! LOL! I've had 4 Roland cubes in the past 16 years and they out perform virtually everything else out there. The VOX mini-amp(s) are the nearest competition, and maybe the Fender Mustang series as well. I'm probably going to spend the cash and get a Blues Cube, and the ROBBEN FORD MODULE/TUBE for it. Can't wait ~!~!~!~
Yeah, I wouldn't ever minimize Frey/Henley's well deserved accolades, but it just seems like they came out of the same experience with a chip on their shoulders. I can understand being bitter with the shark managers, record company executives and lawyers, but there is something disturbing about musicians screwing or getting screwed by other musicians. I guess I've been lucky!
I get that a lighter, reliable transistor amp makes life easier. But why are Don Felder and Eric Johnson plugging it when they've got backlines to die for, and roadies?
+Aadityakiran S. It's an advertisement, of course he's paid for it. But at the same time while he's endorsing it, he gives good reason why he prefers the sound/size of the amp, why shouldn't he get paid.
+Aadityakiran S. For sure. Still, he wouldn't endorse it if it was terrible, and I'm sure the sounds you're hearing are Don using the amp. I doubt he uses it in his main rig, however.
AND...getting a tube amp to sound good at apartment levels is nearly impossible. Plus you need to have your amp rebiased every time you change the tubes...no thanks...I am convinced!
you clearly have absolutely no clue about amps...alone the fact that you are comparing a blues cube to a friedman (!) makes you ridiculous enough...let alone the fact that you probably dont even know that the cube is a cheapy digital amp, and the fact that a friedman is a hand wired tube amp..
It's so nice to see all the compliments on Don, such a great guy - Eagles loss...
Great to hear Don Felder play.. a true artist...
I like Don Felder. Great player without a monster ego. Terrible tale about his clashes with The two Eagles power brokers, Henley and Frey, but he gave them their biggest hit and some class. Loved the guitar duels with Joe Walsh too.

I've been playing on a Blues Cube for many years. Fabulous little amp - can go head to head with any tube amp.
I bought a blues cube hot,,,took it to a gig and wow,,just plugged straight in and it smokes. I have tons of amps mostly tube amps,,this little roland is light to carry and has a ton of guts, closest I have ever gotten to that warm tube tone from a solid state.
It's nice to get an up-close look at one of rock's great guitarists. Just guitar, very articulate.
this is the best solid state amp out there..
bill koehler totally agree
I have to agree. (Dont tell the Peavey bandit i said that)
If Fender doesn't quick making so many great new products, I'll be broke. Using Don Felder to stump for you was an excellent choice. Biggest mistake The Eagles ever made was getting rid of this guy.
They got down to the Henley of the matter.
Felder is the best Lead Guitarist of the Eagles together with Joe Walsh. They have problems with unequal share in Money matters. The Two Lions wants a big share.

Man, this is THE BEST guitarrist to ever demo an amp. I mean, he only created the best guitar solo of all time..
the song is called "road to forever" by don felder from his solo album road to forever

worth watching just to see that smile

Does Don still play one of these when he performs? It's 2025.

Great demo.
Love the Battlestar Galactica jacket. Felder RULES.
Hey thx Don. ;-)
That strat sounds dope.
One of the most underrated guitar players, ok he's not a great singer but his tasty riffs were the base for some of the Eagles greatest songs yet he never got his full co-writing credit or recognition, Hotel California ? he wrote everything but the lyrics, the song would never have existed without him yet Fry and Henley got all the credit and the publishing money. i want this... just coz Sir Felder says so
Cool video! Remember, Don Felder can make anything sound great.
'Fingers Felder' , nice bloke . Money can form cracks in the strongest of bonds.
Its not digital, its just solid-state. It isnt a modeling amp its just a regular amplifier, its trying to be his own thing. Sounds kick ass and fair priced for what it offers.
Hey Mr.Roland how about making a lower powered version with say a 10" speaker for home/studio use?
I would buy one today!
Totally agreed.

Is it match with telecaster?
Cheers from Indonesia
I'm interested in buying this amp. but the smaller version {60w Stage} Does anyone know if this will be ok for a live setting with drums etc ... can this compete ?
Have a bluescube stage..... Great great amp.
The dual tone is great... Perfect for those bryan adams tubes that were done with mixing a cleaner sounding amp with a dirtier marshall amp...
amazing amp! i have the artist version and i'm very impressive!
Man could plug into a toaster and make it sound good.
The Eagles without Don Felder’s sound is not the Eagles I loved. In fact I’ve think the latest attempts of the “Eagles” is more like a cover band rendition of the true Eagles sound. It’s a shame ego’s don’t recognize the contribution of each player equally.
Hi can you tell me what roland model that is , it sounds different than the bc 60 is it a 310 ?
I have toured with Robin and he is by far the loudest player I´ve ever toured with...I think he´d need at least 200 watts solid state power!
Boss/Roland is really showing they are the Standard to compare to in Amp technology. I have one of these and a Boss Katana ll head. Remarkable technology.

What's the name of the last song he played?
What's song is it from 0:43 ?? Sounds great !!
did you find it?
Absolutely. Kinda lost respect for DH and GF when I read about all the issues.
i went all out and bout 10 to give to my friends thanks don felder you owe me a million dollars
All of the Roland amps are absolutely top quality,, using BOSS effects never hurts a thing! LOL! I've had 4 Roland cubes in the past 16 years and they out perform virtually everything else out there. I have a Roland Micro Cube, and even that thing is fantastic just for fun playing at home, or practice. My 12-string likes it, too.
so, you've gigged with it?
Sounds good to me:) Mid heavy, but that is where a lot of amps fall on their face.
AGREE!
It sounds great and it gets good reviews, but I think it's a bit pricey for a solid state amp
what is the music he played
0:45
$699 for the stage version and $899 for the artist version
Dave Richardson which one is being played in the video?
DazReht artist
well, that's an original design!!
How much did Roland pay him to say all that stuff?
Hey that's funny, when I heard this amp I thought of him!
Nice featuers but really too expensive for digital yet only two/three chanells with blend option.
NOT digital. Definitely discrete solid state. Bet you've never tried one either.
This or Vox AC30C2???
Which Cube is it?
Felder > Frey + Henley
Except this isn't a Fender. It's a Roland!
yeah he does have nice dentures! :P
Hey Don, You and Lindsey Buckingham should jam sometime and see what happens...just thinkin'. -stan
not a bad rep artist
Yep. They wanted more money. Walsh and that high voiced guy were ok with being played and being second class to Henley and Frey.
what is the song at 3:00?
late reply, song title is road to forever.
About $700 from what I can see.
I get that a lighter, reliable transistor amp makes life easier. But why are Don Felder and Eric Johnson plugging it when they've got backlines to die for, and roadies?
zodiacbluesbaby Because Roland pay them to advertise the product
$
its a great amp, only if the price wasnt so ridiculous..
The guy was defenately paid by roland! ;)
I doubt that Don would need the money that badly to give a false endorsement. It clearly is a great amp, just wish I could afford one lol..
You know hes probably as rich as Paul McCartney - I doubt he did this just for the couple of grand he got for his time
Lab Series L7, L5, or L3 for clean tones. Simply beyond reproach.
It may work for bedroom playing. But when you'r playing loud it won't cut it.
Huh, what does he know about amps, its not like he's sold any records or nuthin
久しぶりに観たルックスがだいぶ変わってしまっていて、肝心要のサウンドが耳に入らない・・・。
Hey I agree
Grow up. It's fairly priced. I swear, some of you guys are ridiculous. Have you checked the price on a Friedman or a Magnatone?
I'm scared to ask the amount of dough needed for this pie.
I would like to hear Robin trower give this a ride, and see if he likes it!
I think he was just jamming. Never heard of a song come from that.
He said, "...sit in the same room with it...".
Sounds horrible, the distortion is clearly out propotions or he is completely dis interested in the product he is endorsing in this vid
The only amp you need is a Vox AC-15. If that isn't enough, then get an AC-30. Done.
+Brock Landers for those who Love the Vox tone- Yes .
AND...getting a tube amp to sound good at apartment levels is nearly impossible. Plus you need to have your amp rebiased every time you change the tubes...no thanks...I am convinced!
Many amps have a built in bias port, making it simple to re-bias when you install new tubes.
Since the last post....I tried to love the Blues Cube but failed....I bought an AC15C1 and Wow!!!
Daniel Gorman Will do the clean, shimmery Fender deal AND the Marshall thing. Just spend an extra $50 to get better tubes.
Sounds pretty cheesy to me...
you clearly have absolutely no clue about amps...alone the fact that you are comparing a blues cube to a friedman (!) makes you ridiculous enough...let alone the fact that you probably dont even know that the cube is a cheapy digital amp, and the fact that a friedman is a hand wired tube amp..
Mr expert ... this is not a digital amp. It is definitely a discrete solid state amp. Betting dollars to doughnuts that you have never tried one.
What's the name of the last song he played?
road to forever
what is the song at 0:43?
did you find it?
