I’ve been using the Fuji X-Pro 3 for about a week now around Lisbon. This isn’t an in-depth review of all the cameras details and features or a technical break down of image quality, rather a practical review about what it's like to shoot with for street photography.

Great review! I cant imagine how x-pro4 will retain the style of line-up. No matter what happens to whole specs. I hope the screen would stay the same as it is on this gorgeous model.
I would imagine Fuji will keep the same styling, perhaps just introduce IS if they can fit it into the body (which they should be able to if they can fit it into the smaller body of the XS10)
I really appreciate your style of reviews and how you go into the essence of the cameras, and not geek about technical specs. Would love to hear your opinion on the x100v if ever you put your hands on one. Thank you Andy!

Every time I pick up an X-Pro camera, I'm always amazed at how well it is made and how comfortable it is for me to hold. However I always opt for the X-T series due to the overall set of features that I like for my style of shooting.
I think I'm the same Michael. I really do love the build and feel of this camera, it's just that the X-Ts are such practical cameras, and so they are always the ones I use. I did have a lot of fun with this camera though.

just got it yesterday the full black version and its an amazing experience shooting with it and not looking at the screen :) you simply focus more on the shooting and living there in the moment , shooting each frame with joy and you just focus more on the composition

I don’t think I’d write this off as a landscape photographer’s camera. I’ve never handled one (currently have one on the way from Fuji for a 48 hr trial), but I do use my X-pro2 for landscape and astro. It strikes me that the drop-down screen would be quite handy for landscapes. The lack of an articulated screen is the only disadvantage I find with the X-pro2 for landscapes. Useful for shooting from low angles, and usable even if raised high on a tripod. The camera is also weather-sealed, which is an added benefit for landscape work. I enjoyed your video, especially the “third person” shots showing you at work with the camera. Really gives a good idea of the ergonomics.

@@AndyMumford I guess so. The way I see it with my X-Pro2 is that it's perfectly satisfactory for landscapes (apart from lack of tilting screen) but has all the added benefits for travel/street! Looking forward to trying the X-Pro3 when it arrives for the 2-day trial, although I'll be fairly limited in scope due to the Lockdown! Should get a good idea of the ergonomics though.

I v shot with Nikon since 1985, studied photography at College etc. Work as photographer on and off, still shoot behind the scenes, for Film Industry as well a say own projects, I own the XT3, Xpro 2, but have had others... Seeing the reviews and comments on Fujifilm, I am so much muddled that my mind has compelled me to upgrade my camera to Fujifilm in coming years.

But I have seen the price of Fujifilm cameras are very heavy, very costly. Even then, I have harboured in my mind to possess such a camera in my later years.
They're really not, its just that when you search for something on YT then the algorithm thinks you like that and keeps sending more similar stuff into your feed. If you've watched videos on Fuji cameras then YT will give you more of them. Spend some time just looking at Sony, or Nikon, or Hasselblad reviews and that's all you'll get as well
The X100F is my go to street camera, too scared of the lack of screen haha. Can't wait for the X100V!

Your videos are always useful, and that was the best SquareSpace ad I've seen (out of hundreds). One caveat would be that Fuji did emphasise that they invested substantially in R&D for this X-Pro by redesigning the Hybrid VF and finding a way to work with Titanium, though your remark that the X-Pro3 benefits from the R&D and popularity of the T-series certainly still stands.

I’m sorry, but I think you’re wrong to emphatically state that the X-Pro3 “is definitely not a landscape camera”. I find it to be a superb landscape camera and it’s misleading to imply otherwise. I also think it is undoubtedly Fuji’s best “all purpose” camera (at a price!). It’s also a very capable video camera if needed. That’s just my opinion, but I’m old enough and lucky enough to own the X-T4 and X-100V, and I can thoroughly recommend the X-Pro3 every time.
Well, like everything, it's a personal opinion. I make my living through landscape photography, and the X Pro 3 isn't a camera I would ever seriously consider for my work. The articulating LCD is useless if you're shooting vertically or if you have the camera on a tripod at eye level, the camera doesn't balance well with the zoom lenses you'd typically use for landscapes, and the dials are incredibly awkward to operate with gloves.
Of all the landscape photographers I know who shoot with Fuji, none of them have an X Pro body in their bag
When they lent me the camera for review, Fuji (who know I'm a landscape photographer) literally said "it's not a camera for landscapes Andy" and so I really don't believe it's misleading at all to say "it's definitely not a landscape camera". For sure you can use it for landscapes, it'll take images and function, but it's not in any way optimised for that use.
It's also hard to call it Fuji's best all purpose camera when the image quality and focus are the same as most of Fuji's other X Series cameras, but many features like frame rate (for sports or action) video capabilities (no 4k60, and limited to 15mins 4K recording) or in camera stabilisation, are inferior to Fuji cameras which cost less and match it in other areas.
It is however a beautifully designed, well built and capable camera.
This is by far the most informative review I have seen! Every video I have watched for this and the x-t4/x-t3 focus too much on all the technical aspects. I have been shooting with an x-e3 the past couple of years and I just absolutely love the style and the overall shooting experience. So the x-pro3 seemed like the obvious choice for an upgrade. However, I have been getting into landscape photography and the x-t4 seems much better for that. This video answered some of my questions and I may be leaning toward the x-t4 now.

Re: Grip - I have a hand grip fitted which makes a big difference with heavier lenses.
Re: Landscapes - Agree but it’s still basically an X-T3 so it is capable. My 3 Legged Thing L bracket fits and the screen folds down for composition but obviously it doesn’t have as much movement as the X-T3. And back in the dark ages of film when we didn’t have the luxury of a rear display screen, I would shoot landscapes through the viewfinder.
Just keeping to those two genres, if like me you shoot mainly street with some landscapes then the X-Pro3 is perfect, but if it’s the other way around then the X-T3 would be better (and cheaper).

Gorgeous review, camera and shots Andy. Love the bus station, pier and car park. I am always blown away at the IQ and dynamic range of Fuji files in C1 Pro. Can't wait to see what the T4 will have. Still shocked that it is coming out now and so close to the T3. Either body will be an amazing upgrade for me and I can't wait.

Hi Andy, ta for a brilliant review. When I 'tested the water' with a Fuji X-Po2 a couple of years ago I was blown away with the analogue controls, functionality, optics and image quality. All of my Leicas and Nikons are now gone and the money used for a X-T2, X-T3, X-T20, X-100T and, the best camera I have ever used, the glorious X-H1 - along with a collection of stunning performance Fuji glass! I reckon though that you CAN use the X-Pr3 not only a street shooter but a landscape camera: My favourite 'walk around rig' in the 70's and 80's was a Hasselblad 500cm body with the standard flip out optical viewer hood and the 40mm Distagon wide angle. This sounds bulky and heavy but you need to suffer a little for pure art ;-) That lens on a 6x6cm format 'Blad gave the equivalent coverage of a 24.5mm wide angle. The beauty of the new X-Pro3 is that great 'flip down' screen - just like a 'Blad waist level 'covert' viewfinder but with no optical mirror image reversal. Pure bliss! Bung on a 16mm prime lens or a zoom at 16mm and you are all set. Then try configuring the camera to shoot Raw plus Acros +Red Filter JPG and you can frame up the world as fine art B&W images on your screen! All tones and structures and textures with no colour distractions - a whole new shooting experience! Why not give it a try! David Myers, Digital Masters Australasia.
Hi, thanks for the comment. You certainly can use the X-Pro 3 for landscapes, but it's most definitely not optimised for it. It doesn't balance well with zooms, the remote plug is on the same side as where an L Bracket goes (something Fuji changed with the X-T3 to optimise it for landscapes), the screen doesn't tilt out vertically so if you're shooting low to the ground in portrait it's difficult to see. None of these stop you from using it for landscapes, it's perfectly serviceable, but Fuji built this camera with aimed at recreating a film camera experience for street photographers, and pretty much ignored features that make life easier for landscape shooters. Hence why I said "it's not for landscape photography" because it's not designed for that. If you really love the form factor, then you'll work around all these, but if you want a camera that's much more optimised for that kind of shooting and don't care about having a rangefinder like camera, then the X-T series has everything the X-Pro 3 has and more.
Terrific video with great, balanced discussion and beautiful pictures. I do my street photography with the Xpro2 and love the shooting experience. Move up to the Xpro3? Maybe.

I’m really glad you did a review of this as it’s a camera I’ve been waiting to see for a long time! I find it interesting however that you say It’s not really a landscape camera as I’ve been using the xpro series for exactly that & im really pleased with the results! Is there any chance that you might do a landscape photography video with it ? I’d love to see it if you did.
Hi Ken, thanks for the comment. With the "not a landscape photography camera" comment I was referring specifically to the X Pro 3 and it's hidden screen. I honestly think though that these cameras are really not designed for landscapes for a few reasons, that's not to say that they can't be used, but rather that they'e not optimised and the features are designed around another kind of use, whereas a camera like the X-T3 is much more optimised for that use. Things like balance with a zoom lens, which most landscape photographers use, the fact that OVF doesn't play well with large zoom lenses, or so well with very wide or very long focal lengths. The screen doesn't tilt vertically for when you're shooting in portrait mode. The X-T3 gives you two options for a cable remote that won't interfere with an L-bracket (something that Fuji incorporated deliberately into the design for landscape shooters after the X-T1) and the X Pro series gives you none, the remote is behind the door on the side of the camera where the upright of the L bracket goes. Accessing things like bracketing requires an extra step via the drive button.
These are small things, but they add up to a camera that ignores the way a landscape photographer works. I've met lots of photographers on workshops with them who make it work for sure, but it's really not the intended market of the camera.
I've given the camera back to Fuji now so I won't be shooting landscapes with it, so I'll never get the chance to see if I was wrong ;-)

The shutter got stuck closed on mine. The second one I ordered arrived with cosmetic defects (dents on the eyecup and scratch inside the front glass element of the viewfinder). Minus my poor experience in purchasing a new camera I love using it.

As for the camera strap, I usually have one on all my cameras, but as this was only borrowed I never got around to putting one on.
Hey Andy, do you know if Fuji have ever considered this idea?;
that the button on the SS dial is used to unlock the ISO selection rather than the “lift & turn“ action.
Press the button down, then spin the SS dial to select ISO, let go of button - SS dial reverts to shutter speed selection!
The more complex "lift and turn" action is then used to lock in and out of the “A” mode on the SS dial instead.

I'm not sure, I think it's because that would complicate the buttons primary function of locking the shutter speed and ISO. I found the lift and turn to be relatively intuitive after a few hours.
@@AndyMumford thanks for the response! I have the Xpro2 and I find the current implementation of ISO selection completely fine. It was just a thought I had, that may make ISO selection easier for (some) people with less dexterity by switching the physical action required for the two functions (ISO select/Lock SS @ "A"). Anyway! Too complicated!

On my XT2 i use the front ckickable thumbwheel to control both my iso and shutter speed, can you do the same with the Xpro3 asi think its much faster and more comfortable than using the top dials.
I don' have the X Pro anymore so I'm not sure if that's possible, but I seem to remember that the front thumbwheel was assignable in the Function button menu, so I'm sure it is. I use the same thing for the rear thumbwheel on my X-T30 for ISO

If in that year you decide to prolong your use of the new X-Pro 3 I certainly hope to find out about your experiences and thoughts about its use for landscape photography. I hope to hear from you if you find it as bad as many suggest it is for the photography of that type. In that respect I hope to find your comments on its use on a tripod (if at all possible or feasible with its LCD for composing and viewing the shots you take). I also hope to find out how you think its use with the wide angle zoom lens as it will surely block the view of the optical view finder. In short I wonder if it really is a no-go camera for landscape shooters.

I won't be continuing with the X-Pro 3...I borrowed it from Fuji for a couple of weeks and have since given it back. It's not that I think the X-Pro 3 doesn't work with landscapes, it's just that it wasn't optimised with that kind of shooting in mind, whereas the X-T3 was. Little things like the screen will only drop down, so if you're shooting portrait with the camera low then the screen doesn't articulate to make it easier to see. The remote is on the same side of the camera that an L bracket would go (on the X-T3 is was moved to the other side specifically because of this), and things like bracketing take an extra step to access via the drive button (and if you don't have the screen open or your eye to the EVF you can't see what you're selecting, whereas on the X-T3 bracketing is a twist of the dial below the ISO). Then of course you've got the fact that the camera doesn't balance well with landscape lenses (8-16mm, 10-24mm, 16-55mm, 50-140mm) and they obscure the OFV and the OVF doesn't work well with those very wide or very long focal lengths.
All of these are relatively small issues, but added together they would certainly be less convenient in the field than the X-T3. So you could certainly use it and overcome all of these issues, but the only reason to do that is because you really really want the form factor of the X-Pro body.
I flip the back screen and use it anyways. Thank you Fuji but I rather shoot the way I want to shoot.
Would you recommend using this camera for landscape/nature photography?
It's fine for landscape photography, it's just not really optimised like the XT3 and XT4 are, lacking a decent screen and it doesn't balance well with zoom lenses

i think this is the camera for me coming from a contax G2, but i’m waiting for v4.
It's a lovely camera. Not sure when we'll see the X-Pro4 , but I doubt it'll be this year. Fuji have always used the same sensors in each generation of their cameras (this has the same sensor as the X-T3 and X-T30, the X Pro 2 has the same sensor as the X-T2 and X-T20 etc) so it's logical to assume that the XPro4 will have the same sensor as the XT4, XE4 and XS10...which is the same sensor (and image quality) as the XT3 generation. For the 4th generation Fuji introduced things like IS and better video, so it's unclear what improvements and XPro4 would have

love the camera, just don't understand how they price it more than an X-T4, when the X-T4 has so much more. Fuji basically gave us a more limited camera, but charges us more.
Yeah, Fujis pricing on the X Pro line has always been strange. It’s priced like a flagship but not featured like one.
It’s built with higher quality materials like titanium on the top and bottom plates and the OVF is expensive to make as well. In addition, it’s manufactured in Japan whereas other bodies are basically made in China, so the cost of labor is higher too.

Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. You can assign functions to the different buttons in the Settings menu of the camera, that's how I set the read command dial to scroll through film simulations
So what are your current thoughts on the expo three? I was looking at the Leica Q2 as well for three photography reportage photojournalism work. What are your thoughts on the mega pixel count on the Leica Q2. Make a big difference in your work in terms of printing and cropping? also what do you think of the colors/dynamic range compared to the Fuji?
I see other people saying how they love your videos and wish you could speak a little louder. I just found your video on what your gear is and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to strain to understand you at times. Maybe it is the volume but I think too your enunciation tends to have a ebb and flow, which is nice but some words become submerged, if that makes sense. This is intended to be constructive feedback. Thank you for your work.
Thanks fo the comment. I generally do speak quietly, it's something I've always done, and I spent over 10 years teaching in the classroom and speaking softly was never a problem. There are a couple of videos (and this is one of them) where I've not recorded the audio at a high enough level. Over the last year or so since I've made this video I've increased the audio level in my videos.

Hi, as good as fuji cameras are, I have used them in the past, for the same amount of money, do you not think Sony would be the better choice in the rangefinder style, Regards, Colin.
I honestly don't know as I've never used a Sony. I hear great things about their image quality, but not such great things about their menus and intuitiveness. That's subjective though, and as I say, with no experience of their rangefinder style cameras I really don't know
And which Sony with an OVF would you suggest? Sony only has the RX1 on offer, at a higher price, no interchangeable lenses and it is only styled to look like a rangefinder. The X-Pro2 and X-Pro3 are proper rangefinder cameras, providing not only for manual and autofocusing of its native X-Mount lenses using the OVF, but also for Leica M-Mount lenses.

Timothy Linn Well, I have an M4P and an M10 and an X-Pro2, and there is no difference what so ever between these cameras in terms of how they operate, except the M‘s have a coupled telemetric range finder (providing for manual focus only) whereas the XP2 has a coupled optoelectronic range finder (providing for manual focus and AF as required). They all have a reverse Galilean finder with the finder and range finder operated through one eyepiece, a principle called Messucher by Leica (hence Leica M). I understand that some people think a range finder has to be a telemetric device. However, telemetric RF’s were invented for artillery ranging and I went from Centurion tanks with telemetric RF‘s to Leopard 2 tanks with laser RF‘s in my military career, yet they were still called range finder. In fact, I don’t think there are any optical RF‘s left, they are all electronic today, mostly laser or radar.

Yeah, I know what you mean, that's pretty much how I feel about the X Pro cameras. They're beautiful and I'm glad they exist, but they're just not for me

Another fine review, Andy. I am curious as to your thinking about Capture One as opposed to LR. I shoot both Nikon and Fuji. Will my Nikon files suffer from Capture One? Not sure if I need to make that transition. Cheers.
Hi James, I can't honestly answer the question about Nikon files in Capture One as I've never tried it. I use both software, I tend to use LR for convenience, even though I know that Capture 1 will give me slightly better results

I don't have a fixed workflow for images really, but everything is usually finished of in PS, so I still use the same sharpening actions in PS that i've always done. I use both LR and C1 for RAW editing, it really depends on my mood and the image, but I do find that C1 renders more RAW detail right out of the camera

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't this camera qualify for landscape photography as you said? It does have a good sensor and quite a few bells and whistles I think.
It's not that it doesn't qualify, you can use it for landscapes for sure, but it's not optimised for that. It doesn't balance well with heavier zooms that you'd use for landscapes, and the LCD screen isn't ideal for use on a tripod

Great video Andy, I do love the look of X-Pro model, but X-T series for Landscape Photo more practical, btw do you have a plan to review 16-80?, finally I buy the Bricks 😀 16-55 2.8 for Landscape yes it's big and heavy lens...but love the Image Quality...

As for the 16-80mm, I'm not sure if I'm going to review it to be honest. I almost never shoot in the mid range (between 24mm and 55mm) and often don't carry a mid range zoom. So I'm not sure what the 16-80 would give me, it's not wide enough to replace my 10-24 and not long enough to replace my 55-200mm, so it's not a lens I can see myself using much. I might do a comparison at some point, but right now I don't have plans to get hold of one.
what will happen if Fuji decides to make X-pro 4 ( with Full Frame )
Fuji won't make a full frame camera. It would take them years and years to have a lens range that would make it viable, and with the GFX system they don't think it's necessary. The X Pro 4 will either have the 40mp sensor of the XT5/XH2 or the backlit sensor of the XH23S.

For sure...I think the X-T30 is a fantastic second body. I used one for a long time.

Hi, thanks for the comment. To be honest I do usually have a wrist strap on my cameras, but because I was just borrowing this and I was often using my X-T3 (with a strap) to film, I was just too lazy to switch the straps over. When I shot weddings I never used a strap and I don't think I've ever dropped a camera (yet. Touch wood 😉)

As an xpro2 user I am sad about the screen. I wish they had made 2 modals, so that those who wanted their screens to stay the same could have that.

Andy, great video and down to earth, as always, thank you very much. Would you say this camera has value for someone using wider lenses, like the 18mm and the 16 or even 14mm? My understanding is that because of the OVF magnification, frame lines only appear for 23 mm and longer focal lengths (35 mm and 50mm, even though for the 50mm the rectangle is really tiny, so not very usable). For wider lenses and for all zoom lenses, you have to use the EVF (unless you don't mind your OVF been very much obstructed by the lens). But if the OVF is the main attraction of this camera (together with its ergonomics), and you can only use the OVF with the 23mm, the 35mm and (barely) the 50mm (because you cannot change the magnification like in the X-Pro2), it really becomes a two-lens camera (for OVF shooters). If, to use all other focal lengths and of course any zoom lens, you switch into the EVF, is the premium price worth it? I love the design and the ergonomics of the X-Pro bodies, but I think that by compromising with the OVF magnification and not allowing the use of wider lenses with the OVF, Fuji turns more customers away than they should (and I really do not mind the patronizing flip-screen "thou shall not chimp!"). But I may be wrong.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it. Its hard to say whether it's worth it, but the OVF is certainly problematic with wide lens because you can compose to the edges with it. Likewise, anything past 90mm the rectangle is so small as to make composition tricky. Personally I couldn't use the OVF for wider lenses and had to use the EVF.
Like you, I love the style of the camera, and the X-Pro 3 is probably the nicest looking camera I've seen, but I just didn't find it practical to use
@@AndyMumford Thanks very much for the reply Andy, glad we agree, the X-T bodies are certainly more practical so perhaps they make more sense for a lot of people. On the other hand I noticed that when the X-T4 came out (quite recently), the price of the X-Pro3 came very close to the X-T4 (at least where I live), so it may not be the case anymore that you will be paying a premium price for an OVF that you use only with two or three lenses. We are never happy are we? :-) All the best!

Now, I am evaluating the possibility to buy GFX 50s. I'm a longtime Nikon user, and currently i shot with D850 with Zeiss lens too. You think it's worth it to migrate from Nikon to Fuji ? I would have advantages from the point of view of image quality ? In what percentage ?
I'm not pro photographer, therefore I have no return on investment problems.
I'm very undecided. Can you help me to evaluate ?.......

Honestly I think image quality differences would be marginal. Both cameras have the same resolution and similar dynamic range. Medium format is nice, but the actual difference you're going to see in your files isn't going to be significant. The 50S is a really satisfying camera to shoot with, and ultimately I'm a big believer in the "experience" of photography, as pretty much every camera nowadays will give you better image quality than you actually need, so it often comes down to less tangible feelings like the intuitiveness of a camera and how much fun it is to actually shoot with...something I've always thought Fuji have done well. I've got reviews of both the 50R and 50S on my channel, but the best thing to do is to see if you can loan one or borrow one from your camera store and see how you feel about it

This might be a dumb question, but how do you focus manually with the ovf? (Like there is no real rangefinder or focuspeacing)
Good question...I don't have this camera any more as I was only borrowing it from Fuji, so I can't say.
To answer your question, when using the OVF you can use a small sub-LCD in the bottom corner that is zoomed into your focus point. When doing that, you can still see your focus peaking.
While it's neat, it's less useful than just flipping over to the EVF though.
So tell me - what settings do you use most when shooting on the streets.
Aperture priority. Continuous AF
Hi Andy - Really enjoy all of your videos - they always look so stylish and are filled with a great deal of useful and/or interesting information. That being said, I think you could give your audio track a considerable boost in dB for your narration. The music intro is loud enough, but your vocal track probably needs to come up by at least 6 dB or even close to 10 dB (twice as loud) on this particular video. With the audio I always set the narration audio volume to around the same level on all my videos. This one needed pushing a bit as the law is a little further away than usual. I think the issue is with the difference between the intro music and audio track. I've just listened now and with the narration audio at about 50% volume on my laptop and through my headphones and it's loud enough...but at that volume the intro music is booming. The problem is that the intro music went in right at the end and I wanted to get the video out. I should have spent more time equalising the music and narration video. Next time though.

@@AndyMumford Thanks for your explanation. It sounds like the ideal volume level might be somewhere in between where the music is lowered a small amount and the narration increased by 50%. I think it's clear that Fuji took a risk when they put this camera out, and it's place in the release schedule kind of shows that they believe that it has a small market. Fuji knew they would alienate a few people with the design, and a couple of other comments here support that. From their point of view though its still too early to say whether it's been worth it or not, and what will happen with the fourth gen of this camera in the future.
As I shoot with the X-T series and I'm not a user of the X-Pro cameras it's easy for me sit and look at this camera and say "that's interesting, I wonder how that'll work out", but if I were an X Pro user and was hoping for the X-T3 features in an X Pro 2 body I can understand how that would disappoint someone

It's a little hard for me to understand why you wouldn't be able to review a shot in the EVF rather than a screen. Is that a Fuji-specific limitation?
You can review a shot on the EVF, it works exactly the same as the LCD

still don't understand why someone couldn't use this for landscape. It has the flipdown screen, same image quality as xt3. Help hahah
I didn't say you couldn't use it for landscapes...of course you can, but it's certainly not optimised for it. It doesn't balance well with zooms, the remote plug is on the same side as where an L Bracket goes (something Fuji changed with the X-T3 to optimise it for landscapes), the screen doesn't tilt out vertically so if you're shooting low to the ground in portrait it's difficult to see. None of these stop you from using it for landscapes, it's perfectly serviceable, but Fuji built this camera with aimed at recreating a film camera experience for street photographers, and pretty much ignored features that make life easier for landscape shooters. Hence why I said "it's not for landscape photography" because it's not designed for that.

What is up with that horrible screen and Fuji trying to tell you how to photography. I know it's down to personal preference but can't imagine that as a street photographers camera for me.

The whole idea of not using the back screen to chimp is stupid. In the film days great photographers like Ansel Addams would’ve kill to have instant feedback. Instead they used Polaroid backs before taking the real shot.
Ansel Adams was a landscape photographer. This is not a camera for landscape photography.
Andy Mumford Doesn’t change the fact that removing the back screen or making it hard to use is a good idea.
One of the (universally recognized) best cameras for street photography relies entirely on the use of the back screen: the Ricoh GR II/III
I can understand where you're coming from, I really can, but the reality is that this camera simply wasn't designed for you. I don't know the photographer you mention who uses the Ricoh, but I do know that both Steve McCurry and Sebastiao Salgado don't use rear screens, and when I shot weddings I never did either.
But that's not really the point of this camera. Fuji have always targeted niches with the X System. They did it with the first camera the X100 which had a fixed lens. They did it with the X T1 by making it APS-C when the rest of the market was moving to full frame, they did it with the GFX systems…it’s what Fuji do, they target niches that other brands overlook. Sometimes more successfully than others.
For me to review this camera and say that it’s stupid because it doesn’t have a screen and I can’t use it the way I prefer to use it wouldn’t be objective. It would be like saying the X-T3 is stupid because it’s not got a full frame sensor. To judge the camera objectively you have to understand what Fuji’s target market it, and if you use the rear LCD to shoot then clearly, the camera is not aimed at people like you. That’s OK, it’s not aimed at people like me either, and I said this in the review. But Fuji know this, it’s a small market camera aimed at a specific kind of shooter in exactly the same way as the fixed lens X100 is.
For other people Fuji have the X-T3 and X-T30, and if you really want the rangefinder body then the X-Pro 2 will give near enough identical image quality and exactly the same feel…with a screen.
Andy Mumford You say this camera was not designed for me, however my all time favorite Fuji camera is the x-pro2. I’m sure that like me, a lot of people would’ve considered upgrading if they had implemented a tilt up-down screen a la x-t3. As it is right now, there’s no upgrade path for people like me who wants the x-pro form factor with the newer sensor tech.

Tj Holowaychuk Leica M4P from ‘84-86’. Canon F1s were my main drivers from 81-90, followed by T-90s and the EOS lineup from 91 until 05, when I switched to digital. Shot for AP up until ‘99’ as well as a few rags later on. I have been shooting Fuji’s (XT, XE and X-Pros) since ‘17’. So, yeah, you might say that I have some film camera experience in my almost 40 years of pro shooting, then again, perhaps not as much as you, so I will defer to you vastly superior knowledge of all things photographic.
