China is investing in self satisfying infrastructure, which is still helpful however. U.S. has made some military mistakes, and not always been morally perfect, but intervening in dysfunctional countries, even when the local population self sabotages, has however helped create a global system where everyone has been more prosperous and more secure. Improvement and evolution needs to continue for everyone however.

China would never do "Debt Trap" diplomacy on Pakistan and have them resort to compromises on their relationship because it is far too important. A key ally to counter India, a border country to Xinjiang, an alternative trade route, and country that has one of the world's largest populations. China knows how to treat their allies even better than their business partners. China Respond to CPEC Debt Trap to Pakistan Theories by Local & International Media The Chinese embassy in Pakistan on Monday issued a rebuttal to an article published in the Wall Street Journal saying CPEC led to a debt crisis of Pakistan was a highly irresponsible statement which failed to portray the reality. After the completion, it will greatly ease the traffic congestion in Lahore and provide people with affordable energy-saving transportation.” Furthermore, the statement mentioned “According to data released by the Pakistani government, 42% of foreign debt of Pakistan is from multilateral financial institutions, 18% of the debt is from Paris Club. Chinese preferential loans only account for only 10% of whole foreign debt and offer a much lower rate than commercial bank loans.” Also, the Chinese embassy in Pakistan said, “As to the people who fabricated the lie that the so-called “debt trap” in Pakistan is caused by CPEC, if they are unable to offer tangible assistance to Pakistan, they can at least try to put the sincere cooperation between other countries in perspective.” It clarified that the initiator of this so-called “debt trap” wasn’t China From this perspective, even if there is a so-called “debt trap”, the initiator is not China, said the embassy. We have yet to see CPEC's good effects. As for now, our trade deficit with China has peaked ridiculously. 90% of jobs are given to Chinese locals in CPEC. There are no checks and balances on CPEC. That's not a good thing. You can trust China but not the Sharifs and the deals they signed; it's better to make all of these CPEC deals public and ensure there's no corruption or unfair concessions (eg the 91% profit of Gwadar port being given to China). The FTA renegotiation is a good step. As for Chinese state media and state/embassy reports, don't trust them very much. They always believe and portray that only they are right and rest of the world is wrong. These were the same guys who dismissed and rubbished reasons Pakistani experts reported for taking Diamer-Bhasha dam contracts out from CPEC. When Pentagon report came on China building military base in Djibouti, Chinese state was like "No, no" and just like this article you quoted they gave fanciful reasons why they can't build a base. A few months later they came up with the base like "Oh, guys! Here is our base."

That includes blocking unnecessary infrastructure projects. Plus if platform of investment in BRI becomes diverse by other strong economies like US, EU, Japan, KSA etc joining it, it will help monitoring BRI projects more easily and the project will be more lucrative. We helped US and fought USSR in Afghanistan but US backstabbed us and we had to fight Taliban and terrorists continously for 18 or so years and on top of that Us bombed our Northern regions and they also put sanctions on us for getting our nuclear weapons (some came from China). and just when Pakistan and US relations were standing on the edge Trump pushed the edge and well here we are today.

China Respond to CPEC Debt Trap to Pakistan Theories by Local & International Media
The Chinese embassy in Pakistan on Monday issued a rebuttal to an article published in the Wall Street Journal saying CPEC led to a debt crisis of Pakistan was a highly irresponsible statement which failed to portray the reality.
A press release issued by the Chinese embassy stated “The report from the Wall Street Journal severely deviates from the facts. As a major pilot project of Belt and Road Initiative, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has achieved great progress in the last 5 years.
CPEC has effectively alleviated energy crisis and infrastructure shortage which are considered as two bottlenecks in Pakistan’s development, and played a positive role in maintaining the relatively high economic growth in Pakistan.”
In response to the Lahore Orange Line Project, the Chinese embassy added “has been widely welcomed by the Pakistani government and people, creating a large number of job opportunities. After the completion, it will greatly ease the traffic congestion in Lahore and provide people with affordable energy-saving transportation.”
Furthermore, the statement mentioned “According to data released by the Pakistani government, 42% of foreign debt of Pakistan is from multilateral financial institutions, 18% of the debt is from Paris Club. Chinese preferential loans only account for only 10% of whole foreign debt and offer a much lower rate than commercial bank loans.”
Also, the Chinese embassy in Pakistan said, “As to the people who fabricated the lie that the so-called “debt trap” in Pakistan is caused by CPEC, if they are unable to offer tangible assistance to Pakistan, they can at least try to put the sincere cooperation between other countries in perspective.”
It clarified that the initiator of this so-called “debt trap” wasn’t China
From this perspective, even if there is a so-called “debt trap”, the initiator is not China, said the embassy.
It concluded “The cooperation under CPEC has always adhered to the principles of mutual benefit, equality and reciprocity, follows the golden rules of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. The planning and implementation of the CPEC has been discussed by the both sides in the open. No country is dominating the process. Both sides have an equal say.”
“Firmly promoting CPEC is an across-party national consensus in Pakistan and received the wholehearted support from the Pakistani people. We believe that the CPEC will be advanced in a steady manner in accordance with the consensus reached by China and Pakistan without being disturbed by other factors. We hope that relevant media reports could respect the truth, take off their tinted glasses, and make more objective, unbiased and all-sided reports. Their readers deserve the true story,” said the Chinese embassy.

We have yet to see CPEC's good effects. As for now, our trade deficit with China has peaked ridiculously. 90% of jobs are given to Chinese locals in CPEC. There are no checks and balances on CPEC. That's not a good thing. You can trust China but not the Sharifs and the deals they signed; it's better to make all of these CPEC deals public and ensure there's no corruption or unfair concessions (eg the 91% profit of Gwadar port being given to China). The FTA renegotiation is a good step. As for Chinese state media and state/embassy reports, don't trust them very much. They always believe and portray that only they are right and rest of the world is wrong. These were the same guys who dismissed and rubbished reasons Pakistani experts reported for taking Diamer-Bhasha dam contracts out from CPEC. When Pentagon report came on China building military base in Djibouti, Chinese state was like "No, no" and just like this article you quoted they gave fanciful reasons why they can't build a base. A few months later they came up with the base like "Oh, guys! Here is our base."

But that doesn't mean host countries of BRI close their eyes and don't monitor these projects with transparency and fairness, especially those hosts who have dysfunctional economies. Plus if platform of investment in BRI becomes diverse by other strong economies like US, EU, Japan, KSA etc joining it, it will help monitoring BRI projects more easily and the project will be more lucrative. No one then would be able to accuse China for coming up with imposing Sino-centric world order.

US always made relations with Pakistan for its own benefits while China proved itself an iron brother and helped us in the worst times. We are proud of our Chinese brothers.
