I agree totally. I know of people who poached, not for money or any kind of gain, other then to put meat on their table. Sadly the way things are going, with the cost of everything, I wouldn't be surprised if the rate of poaching increased

Well explained and said. I’m certified to teach hunter safety here in Ontario, I’ve done it for years I couldn’t explain it better myself. On a lighter side I do poach, I have become an excellent egg poacher, it has taken many years and try’s but I have it down to a science. Perfect every time . Enjoy your night in the Chuck-loo.

I totally agree with you. I have a hunting cabin that I rent out for two weeks. The family are conservationists so there are many years they walk away with nothing during hunting season. I’m not a hunter however I have learned a ton from them.

As a retired Conservation Officer of 25 years in Ontario I totally agree. I also found that sometimes poaching is intergenerational as many times early in my career I dealt with some individuals or families well known to the Officers I worked with and 15, 20 years later I was dealing with their children committing the exact same offences in the same locations whether it was spearing spawning rainbow trout or poaching moose. For others it was about bragging rights. Great videos Chuck. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely agree! I grew up around a culture of “well if I don’t harvest it, someone els will.” And so they would take extra fish, or a couple extra birds etc. But I see the repercussions, there are many lakes around here that are fished out.
I’ve been told that the older generations didn’t need licenses or tags in their day, so it must of been a free for all at one point for some. I can see that going from being able to get a moose every fall to waiting 20 years for a tag would make some people poach. But those that would take every moose they saw made it so some had to wait 20 years.
It’s too bad really. I hope the newer generations will have a different mindset. It does seem to be headed that way so I am hopeful. Would be nice to not have to wait 13 years for another tag lol.
    Always great content Chuck, cheers!

Hey Chuck! You know I couldn't agree more . I think the punishment for anyone caught poaching isnt harsh enough. A fine and losing hunting privileges for a couple year just isn't enough. But at least its something. I started hunting around 36ish years ago. This past hunting season was the first time I ever had a conversation with DNR officers in the woods. Very nice guys. They just wanted to see if i was licensed. Guess telling them its not legal to hunt without it was enough for them. This whole subject reminds me of a verse in a song. " Its only ours to borrow so save some for tomorrow". Have a good one.

I taught the CFAC/HE program for over 20 years & I have always tried to instill a sense of hunter ethics as the core of outdoor education. I have witnessed several poaching incidents over the years & knew of one very lucritive & organized moose poaching operation which I alerted wildlife to. I am glad that you brought this up and I would love for people to be realize that poaching is very bad business for everyone.

Hey pal Im from Sask Iam 57 now and have fished with a buddy of mine for many many years up until 2 months ago,the form of poaching I will explain is just as bad.My buddy caught a Burbot I thought for sure he was putting it back until I seen out of the corner of my eye I seen him pluck the eye out and tossed it back.....I absolutely snapped and asked why he said it is just a fish,I would of kept and ate that fish so it would not gone to waste he said you should of told me,REALLY that form of poaching is IGNORANTS which is just as bad as far as I am concerned so much so I lost a fishing buddy.Keep the vids coming....

I agree Chuck.. Up here in northern ontario we have a problem with the natives shooting all kinds of moose !! We have a newer point system put in where you haven to apply for a tag every year and if you dont get a tag yet get a point !! So it tag upwards of 20 years just to draw 1 tag in any particular wildlife management unit!!! im a bow hunter and have taken approx 25 deer since 1991!! jost love to bowhunt !!I would to shoot a moose with my bow but u cant get a tag!! Really good subject to talk about. I have zero respect for a poacher. I think the biggest problem with that is most people won't call the wild life agent when they know someone is poaching. I don't blame anybody when I said that. I am the first one who don't call to report someone because I'm a quiet guy who don't want any problem with anybody. I try to stay far from any time of drama. But I think that if everyone like me would report a poacher, we could make a difference.

Not mentioned among the reasons people poach is the cost of game tags. Many people hunt because they’re poor and when the cost of hunting legally is high, they will poach. It’s “the King’s deer” dilemma.

We are not allowed to snare hare here in Maine, usa. Too bad humanity can self regulate. We can't dispatch a deer that has been hit, one needs to contact the warden or sheriff and then the road kill can be divided out, its a process. I hear some states don't allow any one to take it.

The worst case of poaching that I know about is a case where the guy had an indigenous girlfriend. She was allowed to hunt any hour of the day but not him. They would drive the back roads, he would shoot the moose and then sell a quarter for $ 50.00. That fall he shot 39 moose. The wardens said they couldn't do much unless they saw who pulled the trigger. The following year he broke up with his girl friend and the joke was, he lost his hunting license.

A very good video on poaching, i never did understand why people poach other than greed and the thrill of getting away with something. (maybe hunger but i have never seen that). Rules are there for a reason because without them and its enforcement, there would be nothing left for our children. I have a couple of questions on catch limits/possession regulations that i can't seem to find the answers to. I would like to private message you ... If that is ok? I have a question on the kerosene stove, do you get that smell from burning kerosene or is it more refined? I absolutely love watching you cook wild game out in the woods, i can literally smell and taste it!! Even the sound of it frying starts me drooling.

Chuck that cook stove looks awesome. I’d be a little worried that I would beat it to pieces if I went on a long ride on skidoo. What do ya think?

Not a worry i don’t think. The carrying bag is quite padded and it fits snugly. So no shuffling around. Having said that, I’ll be guarding it pretty well lol

Always a tricky subject. One that needs a better solution. I love to watch Charlie white (nl ghost wolf). He does such a good take on it.

Another good video Chuck! Now I have to have one of those stoves, hehe. Peace.
Edit- I see that it shows the wick separately with the carry bag and grille plate that comes with it. Is that a second wick or the one that originally belongs in it?

Hey chuck there is a video out where two young native kids and an older man shoot a moose with a 22 magnum. The morons lost it in video. Seems legit but can’t say for sure. Is there anyway of somebody holding these people to account if it’s true?

I guess every province/territory/state deal with issues like this in their own legal confines. Wastage of meat or unreasonable pursuit of wildlife is definitely a serious offence. I know it is in the part of the land.

Do you support exploiting food resources for financial gain in the name of adventure tourism? Reserving Newfoundland and Labrador resources for a few to profit from while also lowering the chance for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to be able to provide healthy food for their families? How about the genocidal maniacs who have destroyed one of the largest caribou herds in the world because they feel entitled? Love to hear your comments. Keep up the great work!
