I remember I just turned 10 and my friend's older brother got Dune 2. It was a game like none other we've ever seen. That winter and probably a few more years to come we played it over and over again. I remember we just destroyed one Ordos base, but there was no ending of a mission and we suddenly realised "holy shit, they got another base!" Fun times. Being a hardcore fan of the Dune 2 I couldn't wait for a Dune 2000 once I found out about it, I think it was somewhere around '98 or '99. Sure, it reminded of Command and Conquer, but I didn't mind, it had excellent atmosphere, it had all it needed to have to build huge bases and insane armies and I enjoyed both very much. Great music added to that atmosphere a lot. I was also in quite a rush after school to play it. It is out of the scope of this video, but I must mention Emperor: Battle for Dune which is quite different game with some very innovative game design, but I really enjoyed that game as well. LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!
Thanks for sharing those memories with us :) Depending on how this video does over a longer period of time, I will eventually get to the remaining Dune games :)
This was really well done video, real good quality. Man, lots of things come to mind watching this. First I'm noticing just how lovely pixel art is in older games, this made somewhat of come back in indie scene. Secondly, as soon as you mentioned Westwood Studios, I had nostalgia trip, mostly due to Lands of Lore series which I love much, but other games as well, it brings memories, pleasant memories. Also, it seems that whole RTS genre is in an interesting position in 2024, it is attempting comeback of sort, specially with Stormgate & Zerospace. Brood war scene is also as healthy as ever. Interesting time are coming to RTS genres. It's nice to see older Dune RTS's still have modders supporting it and creating spinoffs. We'll see what will future bring.
Indeed, I follow the BroodWar Korean Pro Scene a bit and am aware of Stormgate and Zerospace. Not something I'd consider jumping into nowadays, but interesting to observe :) In terms of pixel art, I still hold Heroes 2 as the possibly the best OG example of the medium. There are some really cool modern indies who employ, also titles I have covered like The Iron Oath and Songs of Conquest.
My favorite one was Dune2 for the Genesis. Played that one a ton as a kid. Never really liked the newer ones and kinda just started playing StarCraft instead. Haven't checked out the Dune game franchise since then, even though I read all the books.
The recent Dune: Spice Wars is pretty cool - I have a video from the start of its Early Access - takes some ideas from the old ones, like limited building space for instance and there's some visual tributes as well, like the windtraps which are kinda iconic, I think :) I tried to make the thumbnail about the windtraps but doesn't look real good :)) The console realm is mainly unknown to me, with the exception of the Famiclone era :) That's why I watch St1ka's channel, to gain info I don't have. Thanks for watching!
This was really cool! I just finished the Atreides campaign on Dosbox and suffered with the slowdowns, so I think I might try Open Dune for the Harkonnen!
That is a great idea. Tho, I think there are ways to modify the amount of CPU cycles from within DosBox but that's a bit way too deep of a configuration for me currently 😄 OpenDune will... dune just fine 😁
I really liked the Dune2000 series. Tbh I was really into rts games during that era, so did not find the similarity to command and conquer or red alert to be annoying or boring. I loved the fmv cutscenes (Yay Westwood!) . Also, the soundtrack is a masterpiece.
Regarding music, I'm not sure but I think Dune Dynasty has some extra songs that slap spice. They might be new fan-made pieces, am not certain cause didn't look into it so that's why I didn't mention it in the video.
OK, so due to my buddy St1ka's cameo segment, the captions got out of whack, I fixed them now, and hopefully I can get his script and put that into the captions as well :) Thanks again for letting me know and also for watching!
Ah yes, at least according to the internet, House Ordos shows up in the Dune Encyclopedia, but in none of the novels. So in as far as someone only familiar with the first book, they don't exist 🙂Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm a simple man. St1ka says he did a cameo, I click on the link to see it.
Same here
I appreciate it, hopefully you liked the rest of the video as well :)
haha thank you! It was a fun segment to record!
@@ClintTheriault Thank you! xD

Nicely done video, congrats! These games are golden!
Glad you eventually caught it:)
Love the transitions! Welcome to the Resolve family. The Fusion effects must flow!
All in Spice time :D
Damn that smoke animation is siiick

Interesting. The Playstation version of Dune 2000 looks remarkably like Emperor: Battle for Dune.
I'd say "somewhat", not remarkably.

Nice video! Oh, captions seem, weirdly timed? How odd.
Lemme check that, thanks for letting me know.

@@StefaNonsense You're welcome! 😁
Ordos are mentioned in the books, but not in the first 2 :) Also, don't play much of role in books

Someone get that Borat sounding dude out of this video!

Good Job
Glad you liked it! Considering your avatar image, there's a new Stargate game out now btw ;)
@@StefaNonsense really? You got links or the name of the show or something to google?
Game, not show, called Stargate: Timekeepers ;)
good place
thx!😃
