Number 1 do is so true!! So many people feel overwhelmed or stressed by the game. I try to explain to them they can do nothing but sleep for 5 years and you haven't ruined or missed anything!
This is true, technically you could start a new save file and immediately sleep until you reach year 5, since you never did anything your 5th year would be just like your 1st year..
Do: Use the first crystalarium you get from the 25000 g bundle for jade, not diamonds, since you can trade 1 jade for 1 staircase in the desert, and getting deeper in skull cavern will help you to not only get valuable iridium ore and gems but also the mining experience you need to get the crystalarium recipe at level 9 and start making more to replicate diamonds for a profit
@@kisskamm6631 there's a guy with a camel in the desert who you can trade with! he has both permanent stock and rotating stock that changes based on the day of the week, the staircase for jade trade can be done on sundays! afaik there's no limit to the amount of trades you can do per day, so bring all of the jade you can spare. staircases stack and can be kept in your inventory or a chest. if you bring staircases to the mines or skull cavern but don't use them, you can leave and keep them to use another time (unless of course you get unlucky and die and the staircases are some of the items you lose). they won't disappear until you use them, but since each only lets you skip one floor, they get used up pretty quickly, so it's good to have a lot.
I made that mistake lol I found it on Winter on the first year near my farm so casually, it was perfect. I even was like "this could be an important item... what if I keep it to see if I can do sth with it later? but maybe I can't, and it does say to give it to Gunther, so..." and I handed it over. I was so mad after finding out I could have hatch it and have more xD luckily you can find more in the desert cave, so now I have one finally :D
Another great tip- when you are making a fenced in area for your animals, plant grass seed in it! It will save you from having to replace the hay in the barn every morning. Most of the hay you cut can be saved for winter!
also place the fence posts on top of the grass you plant so it will auto-spawn without having to plant more grass (and buy the grass recipe as soon as you can, instead of buying grass from Pierre). I made that mistake in my first playthrough. oh and buying the workbench from Robin is a game changer for sure, since you can just place a storage box next to it and no longer need the materials in your inventory slots in order to make things. also from experience, I don't care for the slime hutch until you have the appropriate ring to charm the slimes to not attack you, otherwise you're basically asking for them to attack lol.
Do use decorative items instead of fences. Most decor items take only a bit of gold and they don't decay like fences. You can also use mayo makers and cheese makers as fences, too.
I fence in my crops as opposed to my animals. They are much happier to roam freely. Just remember to close up barns and coops at night or else it will be a nightmare petting and feeding them all. I routinely thin out my grass but make sure it's all over to practicality and aesthetics.
I remember my first playthrough, cutting all the grass without the silo. I didn't even know the grass turned to hay afterwards....the pause I took at my own stupidity tbh.
My 1st game, I did that too, plus built barn and coop without a silo. Sold all my fiber, couldn't make a scarecrow. I wasted basically 5 years before I figured out how to not be broke lol. Had no recipes. I thought u had to meet someone to use the stuff on tv lol. Now I'm only missing 2 artifacts for museum. UA-cam helped, buying stardew valley guide book helped more bc it's always on hand.
I wouldn't even call that stupidity, lol. The game doesn't hold your hand (although it does gently guide along the way) so it's only natural to miss some things. The amount of wiki and UA-cam research I've done, just because I don't really like being such in the dark and making huge mistakes that'll cost me in-game years. I don't just follow a tutorial or anything, but I do use it as a support to get un-stuck or understand a new mechanic.
Since i played harvest moon on my childhood days i didn't make that mistake. But for sure those players who are not yet engaged into this kind of games are most likely to make this mistakes.
When I started I felt that decorating was a waste of time and money. Then one game night I had nothing left to do so I did some decorating and found that how things look does improve my enjoyment of the game. Not that I would win any decorating prize. About the horse: It's great but I just figured out that using it all the time can sometime be counterproductive. I haven't measured it but I think that going berry picking on horseback takes more time than going on foot because of all the backtracking to get back on the horse. After three years (I think) the spirit of your grand father gives you a score of one to four candle at his shrine (north west of the farm), I just discovered recently that that score is not definitive, you can get another one later after achieving more stuff (check the wiki to see what is needed) by offering a diamond to the shrine. The good is if you get four candle then you get a statue that give you a few iridium ores each day for free. This is great if you're not a fan of mining in skull cavern.
hopping on and off the horse takes like a split second though, berry picking with a horse is 100% faster. its not like the horse moves SO quickly that you dont notice berry bushes
If you don’t have sprinklers, Keep the watering can until the last two days of the season. Water your plants on the first day, take it to Clint, you’ll get it back on the first day of the next season
Also wait until the tv says it’s gonna rain tomorrow, then water your plants for that day and then get it upgraded, so your watering can will be back on the day after the rain.
You could do the smart trick with the watering can, or you could be a real chad and after 200 ingame hours, 7 ingame yearsand 75% perfection and still have a standard watering can.
If you're just starting a new save and you want to cutting down trees, *DO NOT* cut the stump. With a starter axe, it takes 10 hits to break the top and 5 hits to break the stump. It isn't worth the energy. Plus, only the top part of the tree give you foraging exp and you can leave the stump until you have upgraded axe.
@@ezlilyy Same, I learn it way after I play the game. I think it was around 1.3 update and I play the game from 1.2. I often rush to unlocking the tidal pool early 😅. The benefit of leaving the stump is that the seed will spread faster.
@@Ghostnappa5 Yes. The trees won't regrow. Like I said in the previous comment, leaving the stumps made it so the trees spread their seed faster therefore more trees. I'd say wait until you have Iron axe so that it only take 3 hits to break the stumps.
I will never love the fishing mini-game. However, with practice, level 10 fishing, the iridium fishing rod, the trap bobber, and Lobster Bisque (+3 fishing & +50 max energy buff for over 16 minutes), I finally managed to catch ALL of the fish including the legendaries. Hooray! The harder fish are now a doable challenge instead of extremely frustrating. As for for staying in Skull Cavern until 2am, I thought you also randomly lost items. Or is that only if you're killed? If it's just a percentage of gold, this is a strategy I fully intend to use!
@@HopesAreGone you can only get one item stack back though. Like say you lost your galaxy sword, all your mega bombs and all of your food. You could get all of your food or all of your mega bombs or the sword but not all 3
@@Mystic-Midnight Ah okay. I always craft a totem to leave right before I pass out for the most part. I only found out about this by accident when I went to check out new weapons. 😁 thank you!
I don't know, I allways loved the fishing minigame. I actually would have liked some harder, more profitable Fish. At level 10 Fishing + Iridium Rod, the vast majority of fish are extremely easy. More challenges would make it more interresting and potentionally more profitable. Some fishes sucked tough; rare spawn, hard to catch, only with specific conditions. Took me ages to get them all. But I kinda enjoyed the challenge. Doing a Playtrough right now, Fishing at level 6, Iridium Rod. It was quite challenching, but after a few failed attempts I've beaten him. I really enjoyed that. Also yes, you'll loose items.Especially during the earlier parts of the Game. The 1000 Bucks aren't a great punnishment, but loosing the Items you've mined kinda is. Kinda irrelevant in the Endgame tough, when you allready horded 500 Iridium Bars and 50 Prismatic Shards and got enough Money for 10 Gold Clocks.
Just started playing the game 2 weeks ago and I'm now bingewatching a lot of Stardew Valley content. The community overall is really likeable and you're as well. Thank you for your do's and don'ts, Lily. I'm so glad I'm replaced pretty stressing (and sometimes toxic) games for this one :)
*NEVER GO AND MIN-MAX THIS GAME IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME PLAYING IT.* I recently tried to do a min-max-y speed-run-ish playthrough in an attempt to get the greenhouse by 10th of Fall and the Community Center by Winter of the first year. It was draining, and it took away most of the fun; it felt dry and tedious and it didn't have the magic it had when I was playing normally. _Relax and play at your own pace._
@@BlissfulMartini Yeah, but doing the rest of the community center as well is stressful AF lmao. Besides, what I said only applies to the first-timers.
@@leech1806 Agree. I've got just over 200 hours in the game between 4 farms (2 of which are multiplayer), and yet I'm only just now starting summer 2 on my main farm because I spent sooooooo much of my first year (back in 1.14) stopping and trying to look stuff up because I wanted to rush through the community center and just kinda burnt myself out of the game for a while. Not that I don't have 15 stardew wiki tabs open at any given point even now, but I gotta say it's a lot harder to try and rush through everything when you're still trying to get a feel for the game and how it works. Granted, I'm no mlg pro gamer or anything, but that kinda just makes my point of stardew still being a good game for even the most casual of players if you don't worry and focus too hard on the endgame when you're still learning the game to begin with.
I made it my mission to complete the CC when I finally started looking at the wiki (its my first play through) and i burnt myself out too. I thought after that I’d be happy but i realised the end game is so far off and now im dreading it :’)
About the slow walking speed: you run faster on paths, so placing them around your farm is a good idea. I think it only works in your farm so you can’t just place them everywhere and the buff is something like a 0.1x increase, but it adds up!
I think it's actually that grass slows you down. I don't really notice a speed difference between paths and dirt. There IS a mod that specifically makes paths boost your speed though.
@@therealbahamut grass slows you down, yes. And the increase to speed on paths is +0.1, not x0.1 but it’s an increase nonetheless. You probably don’t notice it because it’s such a small increase, but it’s there.
I definitely agree fishing is an intimidating minigame, but once you get the hang of it, its actually pretty easy. Fishing is honestly like 70 percent of my earnings, and its really good to get good at it so when winter comes around you have a super easy source
great video! just a quick tip, i personally think that using spicy eels for a speed buff is not as efficient as using crab cakes. mostly, it's because crab cakes last the entire day. i just have a chest in front of my house + my hut on the island with a couple crab cakes and i'll eat one as soon as i wake up and i don't have to carry them around with me all day. but part of it is that i think crab cakes are easier to find. 50% of the time, an iridium crab should drop a crab cake, and that chance is increased with the burglar ring. if you use explosive ammo, then the crab's shell will be blown off and it'll be defenceless, and you'll be able to kill it easily. in contrast, the serpents will only drop a spicy eel 6% of the time without a burglar ring.
I never thought of using Crab Cakes as a Daily speed buff, I usually just replicate rubies with crystalariums and trade them in for Spicy eel at the desert trader so I usually always have spicy eel
I get my crabs for crab cakes mainly from having crab pots placed at the ocean. I also get lobsters and shrimp that way. A shrimp cocktail gives +1 fishing and +1 luck so my crab pots make life easier for me.
I suffer through my watering can until Winter and use the first three seasons to prep. Then I upgrade the watering can for a solid week or more all at once so it's go time by spring. Or I use mods until I do this at a comfortable pace, whatever I'm feeling. SPOILER FOR 1.5 BELOW: You can use the forge in the volcano mines of Ginger Island to enchant your watering can to be bottomless. It's everything.
for those who still dosnt like to fish, if you play on PC you might find easier to fish using your keyboard, just press C to throw and to play the minigame instead of the mouse, maybe will suit you better. (sorry for my poor english skill, i'm from brazil)
my first playthrough that im aiming for 100% perfection, i made the mistake of building a coop first and then struggling to find enough clay to build the silo with 4 chickens
@@havenk.5226 You also only need one silo, because hay can be pulled out and stored in chests inside the coop/barn until needed. Takes a bit more time setting up, but useful for saving space.
Do: if you're on a farm with friends, make them mine so you can water everyone's crops Don't: listen to the Do part. Make sure you divide the work evenly or let everyone do the things they enjoy most. However, if someone is only romancing the town, leave them to water everyone's crops
hehe, i played with my friend+herSon for a playthru once. Her+Me would do most of the work... the kid was obsessed with Hailey, so he'd make a beeline to her house every morning (also we were in voicechat, so he'd be like "Haiiiiley" while waiting for her). He dislikes her now, kid learned that beauty isn't everything :)
Fishing mini game is my favorite early game money maker. I max my fish skill within the first month and always purchase the best rod before I even upgrade my backpack at all. Late game I harvest truffles with piggies.. so many piggies.. it slows the game waaayyyy down with how many barns I cram in lol
"Don't rush." Me: _running Skull Cavern for iridium to upgrade tools, unlock Ginger Island, and get Obelisks because I haven't gotten to year 3 for Statue of Perfection_
Tip on silo, grass and animals: definitely do get the silo first. it should be available quite early, as with most of the ingredients needed to make it, and the resources needed to make the ingredients (Cliff gives u the furnace blueprint to smelt ores as soon as you start mining, so yeah) however, after getting your first silo. DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT, chop down all your grass. This might sound mad, but heres why, as long as you leave patches of grass around your farm, specially near your coops or barns, and you let your animals roam, they will AUTOMATICALLY feed on the grass during the day and produce items over night. Let the grass stay as close to as is until the last day of fall. Also use this time for potentially additional silos. Anyways, on the LAST DAY OF FALL, as in the day before the first day of winter, THIS is where you wanna harvest all your grass and turn it into high through the silo. If you're like me, you'll easily fill up the silos you have and it should EASILY be enough to keep your animals fed through the winter. It's much more convenient than harvesting all your grass right off when you first get a silo, as it lasts longer this way :) As for fishin; get to level 5 as quickly as possible, and chose the fisherman thing, that lets you sell fish for higher income. Then start selling fish at that point. Not before that point is met. Stock up on your fish while levelling up and once you've reached level 5 fishing and picked the option that increases your fishes value, thats when you sell. Just trust me on that. Anywho, those are a couple of the things I do when I play and it helps me out a whole lot!
I kinda disagree with having to build a silo first you can make a coop/barn first and let the grass grow, and open the coop/barn and let the animals out they'll eat the grass directly from the ground (which makes animals happier btw) you only need silo for winter
Also, sell your pigs during the winter. They don't produce anything then and aren't worth the food spent. Only buy winter pigs 10 days before spring so the pigs will grow up before spring.
@@david2869 I don’t have pigs but I’m pretty sure you don’t have to feed them, (I just started the game so I could be wrong) but with chickens you don’t have to feed them, but if they aren’t fed they will be grumpy and won’t produce/won’t make large eggs
Do: Get a deluxe fish tank from Mr. Qi and a large fish tank from Willy, catch all the legendaries and their family members, and put them in the fish tanks as living trophies.
I actually didn't hate fishing from the start lmao, it made me feel excited when I found a fish harder for me to catch so I kept fishing until I got them and now I'm on level 10 fishing and all the other buffs are 5 or lower 😅
The biggest thing that made the fishing minigame easier for me was realizing you need to hold down the mouse button to make the bar go up, not repeatedly click. Also saved my index finger.
Your enthusiasm and cadence make your videos fun to listen to, and your content is super helpful! I didn't play Stardew for a long time, thinking I wouldn't like it. One of your videos actually persuaded me to play the game and I am absolutely loving it! Keep up the good work!!
Year one is when fishing becomes a must for me to make money. Level five fishing lets me make lots of money for tons of seeds. If you build the coop or barn first before a silo its best to move them close to patches of grass. That lets you not worry to much about feeding them until you can build a silo.
@@blameitondanny Yeah, I remember that like it was yesterday...The fishing was VITAL that first year just to get set up to buy seed in the spring and begin thinking about sprinklers. Reached 10 in Fish-Fu by late fall, but it's no longer the great money maker it once was. It's mid winter now and i have dozens of mid tier sprinklers ready to go. Sadly, I've ignored the town and it's festivities. It was too important to rush sprinklers in year one... Imagine having to water your crops in a farming game. 😑
@@snickle1980 I'm always rushing to the end game lol and I'm a perfectionist. I don't know how but I always managed to complete all the fish achievement year 1.
Thank you so, so, so much for the tip about the Training Rod. I started playing last night and struggled to lv2 Fishing and it was an absolute nightmare. Will be switching it up when I log back on to play later.
Fishing is very profitable on the early game stages. Don't forget to fish in different times through the day and also when raining for different fishes.
Do: on the mobile version of stardew valley you should use auto attack if you don’t want to worry about defending yourself, a downside to this however is your character will attempt to hit enemies behind rocks where you can’t hit them and you won’t be able to move.
actually for me the faster i rush the less burnout i feel, i absolutely book it before winter and then during winter i calm down for a bit and work on fishing and catch up on designing my farm better with the resources i gained during the seasonal rush.
Lily, just discovered your videos this past week as I find myself getting into the Stardew Valley rabbit hole during the holidays after a very stressful month (shout out to my fellow IT homies dealing with log4j vulnerability patching) and your cheery disposition fits the wholesome feels Stardew exudes. I've been playing for years now so I know most of what you're going to say each video but I still watch them in the background as I play. Thank you for helping my Christmas weekend off feel more rejuvenating.
I started playing stardew valley just a few days ago and buying the training rod was definitely one of the smartest thing I did in he game. It was worth it.
Here’s a tip I’ve picked up: On the last/ second to last day of fall if you have animals, sythe up all your grass. You might think you can’t hold it all but if you get all of the hay out of the hopper in your barn or coop, you can place it in a chest then hold all your hay there. It might seem obvious but I feel like you wouldn’t normally think of that. Hope this helps!
You are soooo right about fishing. I HATED it when i first started. Then i found out about training rod! What a difference!! Now I LOVE it. Even love the river farm where i can fish right out behind the house in the evening.
Another mistake to avoid: don't use too much time or energy to cut down all the trees on your farm. Only clear the exact amount of land you need to accommodate the crops for that season. Leave the trees to drop seeds and reproduce. Also don't cut down the saplings. Cut down the full size trees and the surrounding saplings will grow within a couple days. You will need that wood. Don't obsessively clear cut your land. It's bad forest management.
I only chop down full grown trees but I do like clearing out my farm as I find it gets to much to handle sometimes if you only focus on the small area and the trees and debres become to dense
I relate so much with the fishing. At first I hated it and aboided it as much as I could, but then I bought the training rod and everything went lovely from there. Now is one of my favourite activities in the game.
im a new player playing stardew valley, when i was on year 1 i got the ufo event, i was shock "what was that" and i check my farm theres alien stuff beside cave, my farm still has so many tree, so i googled and i didnt found any information from it so i just ignored, and then i just realized that was the rare event, that was on year 1 (Sorry my english bad, english not my first language)
I know people say its rare but I honestly get it pretty frecuently! In every farm Ive gotten it a couple of times by year 3, and in my most recent one I got it on like day 5
Do's - when doing skull cavern place bombs, weapon, slingshot pickaxe in one tab. I'm playing in switch and disorganized inventory killed me several times 😂 then next tab is bunch of foods for regen (that'll save a lot on serpents). And skull cavern feels speed running! So fun and exciting when I hit floor 100 with 10 mins left of the clock before passing out 🎉
Pro tip: Empty out the hopper and store the extra hay in a chest that way you only need one silo. Then go around and thin out your grass to replenish. I do this every time the silo gets pretty full. (No more winter stress to find Marnie for hay)
Hello! I have been playing Stardew Valley for a few a year or so now on the Nintendo Switch and I haven’t found any use for the triple shot espresso. It doesn’t make you move faster than coffee does and it’s not a loved gift like coffee is for some of the villagers, does it last longer than normal coffee or something?
@@StarlightMoss It's just like coffee but it lasts 3 times as long. In other words, it saves you having to stop and drink over and over again which is a Godsend in the dungeons or if you are a junky that drinks it all day every day. The real deal is the spicey eel. Spicy eel boosts luck and speed but does it for like half the day and you can slam coffee on top of it to move even faster. Just beware it's addictive so when you start a new game your character will move so painfully slow that it will make you want to scream. Whereas maintaining a double speed boost all day every day in the late game is trivial, it is impossible in the early game. You get stuck moving at a snail's pace that first year until you can get pepper poppers rolling out in midsummer or get the desert open for the eels.
Triple espresso + spicy eel or crab cake makes your horse or character brrrrmmmm! 😂. I cannot go back to without both even just strolling my farm or walking endlessly 😂
@@ladylover5218 I play mobile, and. While I admit the mines are horrendous, it's not that bad once you get used to it. Although, I also have pc, and it's definitely better
I always build the coop before the silo in early game. The chickens can eat the grass outside, amd if it rains, you can buy some hay from marnie. Those few extra mayonnaise makes a big difference in the first spring!
I am on my 5th year and I still haven’t gone to the skull canvern, maybe only 2-3 times and decided naah, that’s a fight for another time. Lol I even bought the return scepter before concurring the 100th level on the skull cavern. 😂 Same for fishing, I’ve played the game in real time for months! Before mastering the fishing and now I do it all the time.
whenever i watch videos lie yours i feel bad about my crappy farm. then i remember everyone plays different. i love your farms and the tips. very entertaining!
I had a funny experience with fishing. I found it super annoying, but never enough to flat out give up on it... But I've only recently got into Stardew Valley. I had the training rod at my disposal. For some reason I skimmed over the description and just thought it was worse than the Bamboo rod. By the time I actually noticed it gave you the fishing efficiency of level 5 fishing, I was already level 6 lmaooo
You do not need to buy the silo before coops/barns unless you won’t be able to afford it or something before winter. leaving the gate open for your animals allows them to go eat grass within 20 blocks of their little door. This actually makes them happier than if you fed them silo hay.
i remember a few years ago getting the dino egg in like my 2nd year and just giving it to the museum. i still dont think i ever found another egg on that save file
"the arcade games are hard and annoying but if you beat them you will get the machines so you can play those hard and annoying games in your farm" yeah, no thanks i mean i'm sure some people like them and find them enjoyable, and that's fine. but if you don't find them enjoyable i don't see why you would want to get good at them just so you can play them more...
Only found your channel a little while ago, mostly because ive started replaying stardew. But you do an amazing job with your videos and im glad to see since i've subscribed, you have gained about a 1000 subs... CONGRATULATIONS on 30K subs!!!
@@LiztheD the thing I’m struggling with the most and what’s keeping me from getting 100% is that I can’t beat those arcade games in the saloon. I’m just terrible at them

People upgrade their watering can as early as in spring? usually this is something I do in winter or late game when money is no longer important to me :D
Im in my 3rd year and i stl have the copper watering can. I dont really need it for watering my crops anymore, because sprinklers become really easy to make.
@@freyafrettchen3808 hmm, well, usually it does not take long for the first sprinklers, because time is the most important factor for me, but I am not a min/max player, only making 1 Million in year one :D
Another mistake i made: i sold the slime ring because i thought it was useless, and i sold my galaxy sword because i thought the dragon cutlass was better but i didn’t know about galaxy souls. Moral is always keep things even if you think they’re useless (same goes for forgables or crops)
Have you ever wanted any fiber? Well on the big requests board linus has a quest where you fish trash out of the water. After you do that, he will mail you the recipe for fiber seeds. They are easy to make, give a lot of fiber, and they grow in every season including winter. So that means that you can technichally grow crops in winter that arent the seasonal seeds.
That fishing one is so true, i avoided fishing for a bit but then my brother played on my account while i watched and he was really good at fishing, so i gave it a try and not too long later i caught my first sturgeon. it was very rewarding slowly getting better until i got my main goal.
In the mid-game, invest in coffee. I always use my greenhouse to grow a ton of coffee beans, which serves as a great excuse to make a ton of kegs to brew coffee and later wine. Then I keep a ton of coffee on hand for drinking, as well as gifting to villagers. Everyone except the kids like coffee, so this greatly minimizes the number of gifts I need to carry around. Then later on when I'm maxed out on friendship with most people I replace my coffee beans with ancient fruit and acquire brewed coffee by other means.
For the upgrading watering can, I upgraded mine on the 26th of Summer, it was raining on the 26th and my crops weren’t going to produce anymore after the end day, so I figured they would survive two more days or so + my dog didn’t die of thirst so I suppose that’s a plus ( joke ) And I had a good watering can for Fall !
Do use wheat as a cover crop. It only costs 10g per seed and will save you needing to re-fertilize your crops in the fall. You must plant it on the 25th-27th to make this work.
i do want to add to the don't ignore the towns people thing. don't give them bad gifts if you arent purposely trying to fill out the gift list in game cuz you will be given a - in friend points even if the npc is full hearts and that's gonna bring you back tho obviously if you talk to every npc everyday then you already earn enough + friendship points to remeby that but still XD
Hi Ezlilyy! I'm really looking forward to your new Twitch streams. I just recently came across your channel on youtube and so far I haven't been able to catch your live stream. I want to thank you for the content you make and the joy and sweetness you give people in these difficult times. Greetings from Russia!
Thank you for taking the time to do all these SDV videos. You are my #1 source for my own farms. Thanks again and great details I never thought of. What other games do you like?
Here's a fun thing to try if you've already had a couple of farms, and you're finding yourself doing the exact same things every time you start a new save file! Come up with a 'routine' for yourself, almost like the NPCs have. Of course it's more flexible, and probably more varied than the average villager, because the player has a lot more things that they can do around the valley. Some days your routine is going to change because there's great luck for mining, or because you really need certain materials. That's okay! Personally, I found that even in my first playthrough, I fell into my own 'loose' sort of routine anyways. Changing up, and even planning out a new routine can really spice up your new save file. This is where the wiki comes in handy! Check out the pages for some characters you don't usually get to know very well and plan your routine around theirs. Or come up with a story, and plan your routine around the story you made for your character and the villagers you want to be friends with. It will help the story come to life more, in your head! Sometimes it's not the most efficient way to play, but it can be really fun and rewarding to simply change the way you do things. Even just changing the time of day you would usually go to Pierre's - or going to the mountains before dropping something off at the Wizard's tower instead of after - can completely change what villagers you meet most frequently, and how you spend the majority of your day!
I've been playing Stardew Valley for almost 2 years now and your first advice is something that I never thought of, I always rushed to plant crops and make money that I get burnt-out in the first year of the game
I love fishing in Stardew Valley, the moment when you beating some hard fish and boom u have the fish and its like lovely moment 🙈 once i caught the crimson fish with begginer rod
Do complete the community centre fetch quests, they unlock all the awesome stuff like the greenhouse round the clock crops every season and mine cart fast travel!
I tend to spend winter upgrading and making my farm and tools more efficient I suggest you do a big haul of any crops on the fall so you have tons of money to spend on Clint Robin and Pierre I also do a lot of mining just because there’s nothing else to do besides your green house and animals

I don't find fishing SO hard, it is just a bit stressful sometimes. When i started fishing, i was very bad at it because i have never saw such mechanics, but i didn't stopped to fish and i became really good at it, so good that i caught Legend! So, if fishing is too hard for you, don't give up!
Number 1 do is so true!! So many people feel overwhelmed or stressed by the game. I try to explain to them they can do nothing but sleep for 5 years and you haven't ruined or missed anything!
Well, except all their friendship with NPCs and pets
@@turtlesarecool though tbh the friendship with npcs and pets is not hard to regain so I won't consider it a huge loss

Roger Roger. Jade. Thanks.
Donate your first though. You won’t be getting to skull cavern anytime soon
woah! tysm! will those staircase be gone next time i enter the cave?
also, who do i trade with in the desert?
Don't give a dragon egg to Günther. Store it, breed it and give one to him after you have more :D
I literally saw this five minutes after I got a dinosaur egg and then immediately gave it to Gunther. D:

I made that mistake lol I found it on Winter on the first year near my farm so casually, it was perfect. I even was like "this could be an important item... what if I keep it to see if I can do sth with it later? but maybe I can't, and it does say to give it to Gunther, so..." and I handed it over.
Put a lightening rod on each grass patch - won't decay.
Do use decorative items instead of fences. Most decor items take only a bit of gold and they don't decay like fences. You can also use mayo makers and cheese makers as fences, too.
I can confirm this tip is very helpful as I do it all the time on my farm
I fence in my crops as opposed to my animals. They are much happier to roam freely. Just remember to close up barns and coops at night or else it will be a nightmare petting and feeding them all. I routinely thin out my grass but make sure it's all over to practicality and aesthetics.
I remember my first playthrough, cutting all the grass without the silo. I didn't even know the grass turned to hay afterwards....the pause I took at my own stupidity tbh.
that's happening right now to me, I cut all the grass without a silo :(
My 1st game, I did that too, plus built barn and coop without a silo.

That's a good one!
I actually only learnt this trick recently
@@ezlilyy Same, I learn it way after I play the game. I think it was around 1.3 update and I play the game from 1.2. I often rush to unlocking the tidal pool early 😅.
The benefit of leaving the stump is that the seed will spread faster.
the tree won't regrow from the stump though correct? so unless I need the space, i should leave the stumps until my axe is better?

Yeah You don't lose any of your items, only 1000 gold.

*NEVER GO AND MIN-MAX THIS GAME IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME PLAYING IT.*
I recently tried to do a min-max-y speed-run-ish playthrough in an attempt to get the greenhouse by 10th of Fall and the Community Center by Winter of the first year. It was draining, and it took away most of the fun; it felt dry and tedious and it didn't have the magic it had when I was playing normally.
_Relax and play at your own pace._
I did something like this and quite enjoyed the challenge. The greenhouse is too useful to not try and open asap 😄
Why the fuck would anyone play it like this in the first place if not to earn accomplishment awards or something to show off??
SPOILER FOR 1.5 BELOW:
You can use the forge in the volcano mines of Ginger Island to enchant your watering can to be bottomless. It's everything.
for those who still dosnt like to fish, if you play on PC you might find easier to fish using your keyboard, just press C to throw and to play the minigame instead of the mouse, maybe will suit you better. (sorry for my poor english skill, i'm from brazil)

You can change the key in the options, I like to use the space bar.
This is strange, but I actually use the mouse 😅
my first playthrough that im aiming for 100% perfection, i made the mistake of building a coop first and then struggling to find enough clay to build the silo with 4 chickens
Yeah I did that too
You can also let them out to eat grass!! I save all my hay for the winter and just plant lots of grass starters for them
@@havenk.5226 You also only need one silo, because hay can be pulled out and stored in chests inside the coop/barn until needed. Takes a bit more time setting up, but useful for saving space.

You can also get iridium from the purple bats if you have the Wilderness Farm or turn on farm monsters in the Witch hut with a Strange Bun.
Tip on silo, grass and animals:
definitely do get the silo first. it should be available quite early, as with most of the ingredients needed to make it, and the resources needed to make the ingredients (Cliff gives u the furnace blueprint to smelt ores as soon as you start mining, so yeah)
however, after getting your first silo.
It's much more convenient than harvesting all your grass right off when you first get a silo, as it lasts longer this way :)
As for fishin;
get to level 5 as quickly as possible, and chose the fisherman thing, that lets you sell fish for higher income. Then start selling fish at that point. Not before that point is met. Stock up on your fish while levelling up and once you've reached level 5 fishing and picked the option that increases your fishes value, thats when you sell. Just trust me on that.
Anywho, those are a couple of the things I do when I play and it helps me out a whole lot!
tbh this has been one of the best tips I've gotten so far, it's just so explicit and detailed. TY!!!
I kinda disagree with having to build a silo first you can make a coop/barn first and let the grass grow, and open the coop/barn and let the animals out they'll eat the grass directly from the ground (which makes animals happier btw) you only need silo for winter
You also need a silo for rainy days. You can buy feed from Marnie but that's very expensive.

Year one is when fishing becomes a must for me to make money. Level five fishing lets me make lots of money for tons of seeds. If you build the coop or barn first before a silo its best to move them close to patches of grass. That lets you not worry to much about feeding them until you can build a silo.

In the beginning I gave everyone random stuff, like trash or stone/wood 😭😭 they’d always be like wtf?
actually for me the faster i rush the less burnout i feel, i absolutely book it before winter and then during winter i calm down for a bit and work on fishing and catch up on designing my farm better with the resources i gained during the seasonal rush.
i just upgraded my watering can in winter like most sane people do.

Absolutely agree with you, the most important thing is to have fun without feeling pressure or rush, just enjoy the game. Thank You!!
Here’s a tip I’ve picked up:
On the last/ second to last day of fall if you have animals, sythe up all your grass. You might think you can’t hold it all but if you get all of the hay out of the hopper in your barn or coop, you can place it in a chest then hold all your hay there. It might seem obvious but I feel like you wouldn’t normally think of that. Hope this helps!
ezlilyy: "Make friends"
also ezlilyy: Gives coal as a gift to pretty much everyone
Same! I would rage and avoid it. I used crab pots to level up so it was easier and then I got used to it! I still hate the legendary fish though

So fun and exciting when I hit floor 100 with 10 mins left of the clock before passing out 🎉
Yesterday I've exploded a bunch of pickle jars when organizing my inventory (Switch).
Pro tip: Empty out the hopper and store the extra hay in a chest that way you only need one silo. Then go around and thin out your grass to replenish. I do this every time the silo gets pretty full. (No more winter stress to find Marnie for hay)
Triple espresso ☕️ is a must. my character seems extremely slow with out now. :)
That's the problem with coffee,
Once you try it you get dependent on it!
That speed boost is addictive 😅
@@StarlightMoss it’s just coffee that lasts longer
😂. I cannot go back to without both even just strolling my farm or walking endlessly 😂

whenever i watch videos lie yours i feel bad about my crappy farm. then i remember everyone plays different. i love your farms and the tips. very entertaining!
6:30 glad I'm not the only one that ruins their perfect fishing by pressing the button too soon.
So it was actually worth it to buy it, I regret for never buying it in the first year lol
You bombing through skull cavern is mesmerizing, I have to try this out as well ^-^
It takes a few tries to get used to it, but its awesome. Would definitely recommend
You do not need to buy the silo before coops/barns unless you won’t be able to afford it or something before winter. leaving the gate open for your animals allows them to go eat grass within 20 blocks of their little door. This actually makes them happier than if you fed them silo hay.
It's best to have it incase it rains because Marnier likes to not work and stare at a microwave all day some times
i remember a few years ago getting the dino egg in like my 2nd year and just giving it to the museum. i still dont think i ever found another egg on that save file
are we all just going to ignore the fact that they got FOUR PRISMATIC SHARDS??????
Yeah I got insanely lucky 😅👌
@@ezlilyy I need your luck :( Im struggling getting down to level 100 in skull cavern.
Check the fortune teller programme on the tv in the morning and mine on a lucky day :)
@@exitedaardvark5480 I do. I even have the warp totem to try and get there earlier. I even use bombs.
@@teeheegigi11 try giving jade to the marchand to buy staircaise maybe ?
"the arcade games are hard and annoying but if you beat them you will get the machines so you can play those hard and annoying games in your farm" yeah, no thanks
i mean i'm sure some people like them and find them enjoyable, and that's fine. but if you don't find them enjoyable i don't see why you would want to get good at them just so you can play them more...
Woaahhhh!! I didn’t know you could shoot bombs with the sling shot! I’m trying as soon as I’m out of work 😤
tips for fishing: use c instead of left click, its a lot easier to control at least from my experience :) hopes this helps !
Thank you! I did not know this! 🙏🏽
Only found your channel a little while ago, mostly because ive started replaying stardew.
But you do an amazing job with your videos and im glad to see since i've subscribed, you have gained about a 1000 subs...
CONGRATULATIONS on 30K subs!!!
lol one time I had all my sea cucumbers in a fridge and my coop partener used them all to make maki roll and I was mad
I've been playing Stardew Valley for a year now and I still don't know half of its content. This game is amazing!
To easily level up fishing, you need to have access to the sewer, and catch carp. They don't wiggle a lot and still raise your fishing level.
I just made a bunch of crab pots and put them in the ocean. Checked on them daily and I hit lvl 10 in fishing before I ever actually fished.
@@zeromaximus4261 nice!
@@LiztheD the thing I’m struggling with the most and what’s keeping me from getting 100% is that I can’t beat those arcade games in the saloon. I’m just terrible at them
@@zeromaximus4261 me too! It took me so many tries to even get through the first wave shooting. 😪
@@LiztheD do you know if you can play it 2 player? Say I started a multiplayer game and had a friend join, could we both play or would it still only allow 1 person at a time. I’m just wondering this because for one of Abigail’s heart events you get to play it with her.
People upgrade their watering can as early as in spring?
usually this is something I do in winter or late game when money is no longer important to me :D
I upgrade everything asap lol
Im in my 3rd year and i stl have the copper watering can. I dont really need it for watering my crops anymore, because sprinklers become really easy to make.
@@rescune4021 haha you understand me :D
I do, because with a better watering can you can have more crops = more profit :)
The burnout tip is actually so helpful. Thank you very much for the video.
Then later on when I'm maxed out on friendship with most people I replace my coffee beans with ancient fruit and acquire brewed coffee by other means.
as a recent new player. Your guides have been very helpful with my current playthrough! thank you!
For the upgrading watering can,
I upgraded mine on the 26th of Summer, it was raining on the 26th and my crops weren’t going to produce anymore after the end day, so I figured they would survive two more days or so + my dog didn’t die of thirst so I suppose that’s a plus ( joke )
And I had a good watering can for Fall !
Don't bother watering wheat, just throw it down during the first storm of summer and harvest it after it rains 4 times.
Do use wheat as a cover crop. It only costs 10g per seed and will save you needing to re-fertilize your crops in the fall. You must plant it on the 25th-27th to make this work.
I just use the crab pot fish for sashimi and stuff, the rest all get sold!
If you place oysters in your fish pond sometimes they gift you coral or traveling tokens!
i do want to add to the don't ignore the towns people thing. don't give them bad gifts if you arent purposely trying to fill out the gift list in game cuz you will be given a - in friend points even if the npc is full hearts and that's gonna bring you back tho obviously if you talk to every npc everyday then you already earn enough + friendship points to remeby that but still XD
Hi Ezlilyy! I'm really looking forward to your new Twitch streams. I just recently came across your channel on youtube and so far I haven't been able to catch your live stream. I want to thank you for the content you make and the joy and sweetness you give people in these difficult times. Greetings from Russia!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
I am working on getting a consistent stream schedule,
I have some big things planned! 😊
Thank you for taking the time to do all these SDV videos. You are my #1 source for my own farms. Thanks again and great details I never thought of. What other games do you like?
I also avoided fishing at first. Like it is for you it is now one of my favourite things to do.
The first time I played, I cleared my whole farm without getting a silo first :(
Meee tooooo
Love your videos! I thought I knew everything about this game, but you’ve taught me things! Do you have a video showing the best stardew valley mods?
I love fishing in Stardew Valley, the moment when you beating some hard fish and boom u have the fish and its like lovely moment 🙈 once i caught the crimson fish with begginer rod
Do complete the community centre fetch quests, they unlock all the awesome stuff like the greenhouse round the clock crops every season and mine cart fast travel!
I was bad at fishing too til after my first year. I decided to buy the training fishing rod and that helped me a lot.
Really helpful video and you made me remember that gaming is just for fun 😊 don’t get caught up on the fancy stuff! Thank you x
"make friends!!!" as you give Haley a gift she hates lol
I tend to spend winter upgrading and making my farm and tools more efficient I suggest you do a big haul of any crops on the fall so you have tons of money to spend on Clint Robin and Pierre I also do a lot of mining just because there’s nothing else to do besides your green house and animals
I was not aware coffee increases movement speed, I kind of have a roleplay-ish approach and refused to drink coffee, since I don't take coffee irl lmao
I never thought people RP in stardew,
That sounds kind of fun actually
@@ezlilyy Yeah I wouldn't say I full blown roleplay, but its fun to imagine extra interactions with characters where there otherwise are none. Breaks up the day to day monotony a bit
Your voice is very pleasant, I really enjoy watching your videos! !
Started this week and I’m having a great time! Thanks for the tips.
Whenever i have an odd amount of free time in stardew valley I go fishing, sometimes I'll fish for the whole day.
Yeah ill say im just gonna fish for an hour and then its almost 12 am
Words cannot accurately describe how much I absolutely LOATHED fishing when I first started. This time around I’ve gotten so much better.
Very helpful and yes didn't like fishing but starting to like it now I've got the hang of it.
