If you get stuck loving the packaging or look of a product but not necessarily the product, photograph it creatively and frame the print for makeup room art. Closeups of things like Odens Eye stamps with the color shift captured is beautiful art and the makeup can be rehomed to someone who will love and use it with passion.
I love this idea! Often times when I see beautiful I packaging I just scroll Poshmark looking for something that will be more practical to my life with a similar theme, like a purse or a small container 😊
About the Gucci blush!! I discovered recently that it’s super easy to pop the pan out use the container. I was so disappointed with the formula but couldn’t get rid of it because of its price and pretty tin. Now i store my little rings in it and consequently love it more!
Girl, you have changed my life. I started watching you, got HOOKED, sat down with all of my eyeshadow one night swatching and comparing and I GOT RID OF HALF!!!!!! I had no idea I had so many similar colors or only liked a palette for a couple colors. (You also introduced me to seeing if your eyeshadow tins can be taken out... I had NO CLUE that was a thing. So I did a lot of making my own palettes too and getting rid of the rest) Then yesterday I saw an eyeshadow palette and I was set to get it and I stopped myself and went "Wait. What would Hannah say? I need to think about what look I would make would make with this...." And I realized I only wanted it for ONE color (out of 9 I think) that I don't have and that spoke to my heart. THAT'S why I wanted it! So I did some research, and found a smaller, way cheaper palette with 5 colors that had that exact color and actually the rest of them were in that family and beautiful and I have nothing like them either. Where that original palette I looked at, I had every other color BUT that one. I've even unsubscribed to some of the people I watch bc your content is just SO MUCH MORE. I don't know how to explain it. You've changed my makeup game. Your 'duping the vibes' are my FAVORITE videos!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to make videos and educate and test and do all of this. It's entertaining and educational. Sorry this was so long haha. I just HAD to tell you! Have a great night!
Anna Busch, You might like Jen Phelps, she's amazing at dupes and just did a year end video on them. Also I hope you are passing along your decluttered products that are still usable. I donate to a women's victim's shelter and LGBTQ organizations who are thrilled to receive such things as you are decluttering. Every shelter has different policies, you have to call and inquire. I feel there are not enough beauty influencers passing products along to those in need or talking about this concept of helping those in your community or donating them to organizations that will. Organizations like Project Beauty Share who sterilize and donate used cosmetics and skin care to women and families who need help to have been displaced, have escaped violent situations, are experiencing poverty, or other barriers in life that have a direct impact on their wellbeing, hope, and dignity. Give them away to friends, family, in order to rehome them to give perfectly usable product a fighting chance before ending up in a landfill. You can give them away via nextdoor, craigslist, facebook marketplace, etc, all are perfectly acceptable. People like me would happily come pick them up! There is also Wands for Wildlife where you can help wildlife and the environment through re-purposing discarded mascara wands. Used mascara wands help save wild animals. Please consider inquiring with your local women's shelters and look up the above, use your voice to spread awareness. At the very least, they can be used as pigments because that's what makeup is: for artists, kids, etc. It's a medium of color to be used, not to end up in a landfill. You could even compost it when removed from the packaging.
Haha I loved it, and it's genuinely a really helpful way to think about makeup ownership! It's inspiring me to go through my collection and only keep the things I gaze at adoringly and clutch onto fiercely whenever someone else eyes it.
The fact that all the Phytosurgence blushes survived this ruthlessness is really a testament! The phyto blushes are the only cream blushes I've ever gotten and i guess i just never have to search for a blush again 💕
I actually panned two of them this year! Inferno and Swelter. They were amazing until the end. I never thought I could pull of cream blush before them.
I KNOW! The “no makeup makeup look” is my go to, and ughhhh they just blend so effortlessly and look so natural and beautiful on the skin. Condensate is the BEST for this time of year ❤
Other thing that I realized in my own experience with decluttering is how it falsely acquires more space for me to get stuff. If I declutter once every 6 months or so and get rid of enormous amounts of things that are no longer exciting to me because the novelty wore off, I sometimes feel like it allows me to purchase more things and the cycle just repeats. I think maybe pausing it with decluttering and actually sitting in this discomfort might be a smarter decision sometimes.
I’ve found this about myself too, sometimes decluttering leads me down a path of bingeing and purging. Forcing myself to either use something until it’s gone, or get rid of it if I really can’t stand it, helps me slow myself down.
Sounds like you might want to target why you are buying rather than why you are keeping. When I buy, usually, it’s an escape or I’m buying the fantasy that it will make my life easier or better in some way. I use the one in two out for stuff that is really overstocked and that feels too overwhelming to declutter in one go. It also draws it out and I don’t feel like I have to get rid of it right away, which quells the instant space must fill space urge. Holding items that you want to get rid of without having them directly available might also help.
This is my absolute comfort material ❤❤❤❤ Edit: I would LOVEEEE to see a HLP closet edit that is similar. I understand that your closet is already highly edited, I just am interested in your closet and fashion content. I also find your review discussions super helpful in my own personal relationship with my worldly possessions.
You might find her minimalist wardrobe video helpful. It helped me relook at my closet and start declutting more than I did before. I also decluttered anything that didn’t fit. (Didn’t necessarily give away, but put to of sight until ready to donate.) Good luck :-)
Your declutters are the best I’ve seen. I hate when other beauty UA-camrs aren’t authentic and declutter stuff they really want to keep. Hearing you say you know what I really want to keep all of these was awesome. I get wanting to declutter but I’ve watched many UA-camrs regret it which gives me anxiety.
Spending the day applying to PHD programs and wow is this great background content while I fill in the same information on nine different websites. Thank you as always Hannah❤
It is so refreshing to hear you talk about makeup the way you do. Also for your new declutter era. I’m so much happier when I can actually see and know and use what I have. I have been taken for a ride especially in college when I was an aspiring guru and bought like the pros I was watching. Since Acknowledging that I am not a UA-camr and probably will never be, I stopped buying makeup like a maniac to fill VOIDS and I kept maybe 1/16 of my collection. I am so much happier. My passion for makeup has not subsided, just changed into something more real. ❤❤❤
I like that you said why and how you got the products. Knowing it was PR or sent to you, is really helpful to conceptualize how much makeup makes sense for me to own as an everyday person
You KNOW it's gonna be a ruthless declutter when the lancome blushes are some of the first items to go. I'm excited to watch this journey of yours, and I look forward to some sort of conclusion/final thoughts video that I expect you'll make after it's all over 😊
This combined with your last video on the problem with declutter is just absolute elite content Hannah. You always have a way of making the old tries and true UA-cam video formats so fresh and valuable! 😍
i had a realization while watching this that might be the opposite of the like. ideal response. which is: i am NOT working in the beauty industry. so i need to let go of the guilt i have for owning a few “too many” things even if it’s just for the novelty because i’m not someone who has new stuff to try all the time. i’ve been feeling guilty for having too many eyshadow palettes despite not wearing that much eye shadow bc i work in an office where i’m expected to keep my makeup minimal and plain. but i need to let go of the guilt because even if i paid $15 for an eyeshadow that i’ve only worn a couple times, that brought me joy and I have the budget (thankfully) that i can afford to spend $15 just to have something to pull out and play with. my makeup collection is probably bigger than the average person’s. but it’s not excessive for someone who just REALLY enjoys makeup. so it’s okay. that’s nice to figure out. ❤
As my grandmother used to say, you work hard, you deserve it! Don't feel guilty for owning something that makes you happy, no matter how often you use it.
Hi Hannah. @23:05 It would be interesting to see what percentage of your collection is for editorial use only and what percentage of it is daily wear. Always love watching your vids! 💕
Who else saw the elf work out ready lip n cheek & knew that Hannah would keep it for last & thought there was no WAY it would get the chop!? 🤣🙃 I didn't have the information that there was a back up! You know, I actually bought this because of you & immediately fell in love with cream blush!! I still have mine. 🙃
I was rooting for you to get rid of the Gucci blush and Odens eye highlighter, since the reasons you show us to keep them were the same reasons you used to let go of other items.
I feel the same way about the Phytosurgence blushes. They’re so beautiful and I love using them. I store mine upside down so I can see the colors easily. I hope you can enjoy all your precious products even more now!
SO glad the Phyto blushes made the cut! I've been wildly impressed with the formula, they're so easy to work with and yet sturdy once they've been laid down on the skin. You've got a beautiful little color library between those six.
This was an impressive declutter. Very satisfying. I find your videos inspiring as I go through my own declutter and reevaluating my relationship with shopping. Realizing what I'm really after is the dopamine rush and buying for my fantasy self. I'm working on keeping things that only spark joy. Love seeing videos where you reuse your products that spark joy for you. Not every video needs to be new makeup. Thank you for your channel and work.
I loved this video! The thoughtful way you approached this declutter was great! I really enjoyed hearing your thought process as you made your decisions ❤️🔥
I love this channel and it's focus on curation. But I gotta say something about its lazer focus on being utilitarian and the subsequent declutter of so many beautiful things because they are considered too novel, feels kinda sad. Is there not a place in a curated collection for a few items that have a limited use but nevertheless hold their own?
Is it possible to switch the Kosas highlighter and blushes out? Because if so you could always combine the two highlighters into one pallets and the blushes in the other. And that way you can declutter only the blushes.
Hannah, I so very appreciate your disclaimer at the beginning of this video and the preface video from the other day that explains your unique relationship with makeup: as someone who receives a lot for their job. When you chose to declutter the Haus highlighter because the duochrome flip wasn't ideal for you, my mind flashed to an item in my collection that is similarly imperfect for my complexion. But while the Hause highlighter wasn't precious to you, that imperfect highlighter *is* precious to me, because I don't have nearly as much makeup in my life! And that is good and okay! Thank you so much for your nuanced perspective as both a viewer and creator of makeup content; you are doing something truly unique. 😊💕 Also, watching you GRAPPLE with each Phytosurgence blush in turn and ultimately keep them all was delightful, I found it so funny for some reason 🤣💕
I find that makeup that isn't perfect for me is fine to use. If I have two or three backup highlighters or blushes that is a lot. It's rare that I even have a bronzer that isn't the one that I'm currently using. Get most of my makeup from a beauty subscription. I like the variety and with an beauty subscription, I don't have to think about buying stuff. It just a choice once a month.
YAY! Just got into bed and am SO excited to watch this. I literally watched one of your older declutter videos after I woke up this morning bc I needed it.
I just had a Tolkien 6-movie marathon over Thanksgiving, and now, you are officially, Gollum according to how many times you've said "my precious" in this video. :D
The video where you got the elf active lip and cheek palette was my very first introduction to your channel ❤️ you having a replacement makes me weirdly so happy haha
I own only a few blushes but recently I bought that famous Espressoh blush (the one that change colour from transparent jelly to pink) and to be honest, I feel like this is the one I can use all the time. I like how natural it looks on me - it is truly my natural colour while I’m blushing.
I really appreciate your thought process in this decluttering video, Hannah. You certainly had to be ruthless at the final sorting section. Blush is a favourite part of my makeup but I don't need a lot. Plus I use my lipsticks as a blush. A tip from Lisa Eldridge.
Oh ! I only have 2 powder blushes, Oden's eye little jasmine & the blush bespoke by essence! And I use my bright & moody lipsticks as Blushes too if I felt artistic 😉 whenever I feel I want to add more blushes & remind myself of the huge pan in the essence blush & the lack of makeup looks the needed different blush more than I have! For example , the "I'm cold" look needs a subtly bright berry blush , I used a matte berry lipstick (from e.l.f) & no one noticed the difference !! Heck, last week, I used an eyeshadow as a blush (LH COSMETICS spectral palette) !
Glad to see you compare the Phytosurgence and Glossier cream blushes! I’m trying to decide which blush I want, so next time I need to buy a blush, I will purchase Phytosurgence Condensate!
Jason really went to town on the skin sparks curation. You trying to pull up your pants and get rid of a couple was so hilarious. "Don't be silly, just mix them" I said to my screen. I also really love mixing the shades in my Dior glitz quad.. sad to see her go.
I love watching you declutter because I too went through a period of time where I just had to relearn how to buy things. You remind me to continue to do that. I used to just buy all the drugstore makeup because I could afford to try it all. I learned a huge lesson in consumerism and buying makeup. Instead I don’t even put stuff on my wishlist unless I have an actual true desire to love it. Maybe I worded that poorly, but I wanted to say thank you and you have a subscriber for life because of the way you approach life :)
My cheek collection has been bugging me so I decluttered mine while watching your video. I have been wanting to try Persona but haven't plunged in yet.
I feel like this was the declutter where the Last of the original cream cheeks haul members were Lost. I recognized a couple of the heroes of that famous haul being decluttered here.
Love this after your declutter/problem with upload which gave me a great vision of the filter UA-camrs/business people have versus me- who only buys for me and gives to friends if it will expire before I use it :-)
As someone who LOVES buying all the colours when I find a formula that I love, a _label maker_ is truly worth it. Personally, I love the Dior Rouge Blushes. I have 6. But the packaging is all the same & the writing of colours is too small on the back if I store them upside down. But since they are labelled it is SO easy! It does eat into the "vibe" aspect of packaging, but it helps with efficiency. I also label my Viseart eyeshadow palettes, since it has the same problem, but I have the spine labelled since they stand upright in my drawer.
This is exactly why I stopped buying color makeup. I have such a hard time throwing away cream/balm products that gone bad… so I buy skincare instead lol, those are easier to go through
I really enjoyed your video and sharing. My weakness is blushers. Will definitely ask myself that questions you asked yourself during your decluttering. It will surely help me trim my collection.
This was absolutely thrilling and inspired me to do an end of year makeup declutter which was especially exciting because I’ve only bought very few things this year and no eyeshadow at all and I really want to have a collection I could start panning!
Wowowowow, Hannah, seeing the Lancome and the Ritual de Filles (sp?) and the Kevin Acquain and the Glossier go was wild! I'm really impressed with that but also with the clarity with which you approached this video. Sometimes I find declutters hard to watch because of the angst being channeled through product decisions but I really felt like you knew what your north star was and were holding yourself fully to account without punishment or judgement. Huge kudos and looking forward to the rest of the series!
I’m guessing some of the people in the comments haven’t watched all of your declutter given their request for information on what happens to declutter Ed items, ranging from thinly veiled contempt to genuine curiosity. For those who don’t know, she either doesn’t touch the item at all and gives it away, sanitizes and gives it away, rehomes within her friend and family group, and only in cases of extreme wear/ sanitary issues, disposes of the item. She minimally purchases items for review and advocates for a less is more approach. Not sure what some hope to gain by pushing for more.
I’ve always been curious to know what happens to the products that have been decluttered? I can understand that some people may take different approaches but I’d love to hear what you do with them! Love the overhead videos and product asmr sounds!

Very inspiring video! I know the point is to shed what is not the most precious, but I just discovered the Westman Atelier Mimi blush and thought of you. If that’s not “old gum” I don’t know what is. 😘

Same. I never got on the cream blush train for this reason.
I agree after I observed Lisa Eldridge demonstrate using lipstick as a blush.

(wonders about your Salt New York lip and cheek colours + your self-made "Old Gum" blush)
Is it possible to switch the Kosas highlighter and blushes out? Because if so you could always combine the two highlighters into one pallets and the blushes in the other. And that way you can declutter only the blushes.
I don't think you can very easily. I really wish Kosas sold their blushes and highlighters as separate products instead of pre-pairing them.
Had a moment of tenderness watching you get rid of Eros, you've had it for SO LONG! Congrats, I hope it feels so fresh in your makeup space.
Oh I love the Rouje palettes! The formulas are beautiful and the packaging just feels so luxe.
Also, watching you GRAPPLE with each Phytosurgence blush in turn and ultimately keep them all was delightful, I found it so funny for some reason 🤣💕
I’m going to rematch this on New Years and drink every time you say my precious ❤❤❤
Wow, ruthless declutter. I wouldn't have been able to let go of the other 2 Oden's Eye products because omg that packaging is beautiful.
This old school content is so comforting ❤️
Also love the packaging color story of the of the products you ended up with
The video where you got the elf active lip and cheek palette was my very first introduction to your channel ❤️ you having a replacement makes me weirdly so happy haha
I own only a few blushes but recently I bought that famous Espressoh blush (the one that change colour from transparent jelly to pink) and to be honest, I feel like this is the one I can use all the time. I like how natural it looks on me - it is truly my natural colour while I’m blushing.
This is how I feel about the Youthforia one! So weird when a “gimmick” type actually becomes a top pick
Great job finding your holy grail🎉
This broke my heart- so many good declutters 😢
Love love your declutters- so satisfying. Also thank you for putting into words the decluttering process of professional beauty influencers
Very satisfying! I love the ruthlessness so much!
Whewww you were not joking when you said this was going to be an extreme declutter! Amazing job!!!
Glossier & Kevin Aucoin!! Shooketh !
@@The.Violet.1 Yes, about the shadows as blushes. I have done that too.
Glad to see you compare the Phytosurgence and Glossier cream blushes! I’m trying to decide which blush I want, so next time I need to buy a blush, I will purchase Phytosurgence Condensate!
Hannah's declutter! The video I want but never expected to see this week. 🥰
Jason really went to town on the skin sparks curation. You trying to pull up your pants and get rid of a couple was so hilarious. "Don't be silly, just mix them" I said to my screen.
I also really love mixing the shades in my Dior glitz quad.. sad to see her go.
Your outlook on makeup is so intriguing..
Ah what happens to the items that don't get to stay?
Such a satisfying video with the ASMR and the careful/ruthless consideration and the swatching…👏❤️👏
In addition to declutter will you circle back to no buy content ahead of the new year? Thanks for making such great videos always enjoy them!🥰
I absolutely love these videos. It makes me think about my collection and what I can do to make it better. Thank u
I loved this declutter Hannah!!! I suggest that you label the tops of the PS blushes so that you can decipher which is which
I love watching you declutter because I too went through a period of time where I just had to relearn how to buy things.
I listened to this as I was decluttering an entirely different category of items and it really helped, so thanks!
I am impressed- ruthless! Did you declutter your custom “old gum” shade you created?
Yes, how has that worked out??
Or the Salt NY products in general?
Your nails are so pretty! I don’t even wear any products like this but I just really enjoy your videos 💜
My cheek collection has been bugging me so I decluttered mine while watching your video. I have been wanting to try Persona but haven't plunged in yet.
Your overhead videos are top tier!!
the gasp I gusp at the kevyn aucoin bronzer cut! is this how sports bros feel with their fantasy football brackets???
I just decluttered my eyeliner, eyebrow and mascara trays together with you. This is so effective.
Phystosurgence Fume is my main girlie it’s such a gorgeous shade! I bought it as a gift for friends this holiday season 💜
I could not imagine being able to declutter a phytosurgence blush, I was impressed that you tried.
oh my goodness, WHAT is shade the name of that silvery Oden’s Eye highlighter? it’s gorgeous and exactly what i’ve been looking for!
Dig out the pot and keep the compact ❤ that’s one of the three Rs so it’s good ! 😊
This is exactly why I stopped buying color makeup. I have such a hard time throwing away cream/balm products that gone bad… so I buy skincare instead lol, those are easier to go through
The rose Inc packaging is refillable !😮😊
Please try the Kjaer Weiss Inner glow and Abundance cheek colors. I love the inner glow. Curious about the Abundance color.
Man I love these vids with my whole heart
I really enjoyed your video and sharing. My weakness is blushers. Will definitely ask myself that questions you asked yourself during your decluttering. It will surely help me trim my collection.
This was absolutely thrilling and inspired me to do an end of year makeup declutter which was especially exciting because I’ve only bought very few things this year and no eyeshadow at all and I really want to have a collection I could start panning!
This was super satisfying
Most people throw them in the landfill for hygienic reasons.
Karla Cano: On what do do with decluttered cosmetics and skincare: I donate to a women's victim's shelter and LGBTQ organizations who are thrilled to receive such things as you are decluttering.
@@violetviolet888 I love that!
She either doesn’t touch them at all and donates, sanitizes them and donates, rehomes within her friends and family group, or in extreme\sanitary cases, like the creams, disposes of them.
Hannah, take the kosas highlighter out of the other palette so you can make a double highlighter palette!
I'm SOOOO settled in for this.
🥺omg so many precious nostalgic babies had to go 😭😭😭 I’d adopt anyone who needs a home
I needed to deep clean my house and this video dropped at the perfect time.
Very inspiring video! I know the point is to shed what is not the most precious, but I just discovered the Westman Atelier Mimi blush and thought of you. If that’s not “old gum” I don’t know what is. 😘
EXCELLENT JOB Hannah!!
