Apparently the rifle used in this shooting was obtained legally. Most guns are obtained legally at one point, they get sold illegally or stolen to be used in crimes. Gun control will not immediately solve the issue but over time it will as guns and ammo will be harder to obtain and therefore harder for criminals to obtain. If you don't think gun laws work, check out countries with them and compare it to the US.

What concerns me is that this state and county have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Maybe we need to look more into what was behind the shooting and not what weapon was used.

Right now the net is abaze with all sorts of stories that are in direct conflict with each other. For example one major news agency reported that the accused shooter had been on the FBI and local watch list for over a year and then he just as of late purchased the firearm. Now if you are on a Federal Watch List you cannot pass the ATF security check, they don't tell the buyer why just that he was denied and there are procedures to clear out the issue. See what I mean about conflicting stories, and this is from the same National News Outlet in the same reporting clip.

The framing in this news story is just ridiculous. Need a bill to pass to limit magazine size? "The victims says it sounds like he shot more than 30 rounds!" Need to claim AR's (Armalite Rifles) are Assault Rifles then say it is "Warzone injuries." No, If it was warzone injuries it would have been stronger bullets fired much faster.
I'm former police - I'm sure he used a carbine (prolly an AR-15) with a 30-round clip.
Actual war zones use semi-automatic mode and small cal rounds to inflict more damage and occupy more of the enemy forces. This has been the norm for decades.

A $30 plate carrier can easily hold 16 low-cap mags. Even at 10 rounds per that is 160 rounds.

If gun laws in/around Chicago, with some of the most strict gun control in the country, cannot keep people like this from purchasing a gun, then the only option is to remove those laws to make sure as many people are armed as possible so shooters like this will either be deterred or shot dead soon after they start. Making it only so the determined gun owners can get ahold of weapons (either legally or illegally) is a means to turn crowds of people from a potential threat to these killers into sheep for the slaughter.
It's a shame that there's statistical evidence showing lower crime rates in cities with less gun control, and yet people take opportunities like these to scream about the need for more of it.

Gun laws are only as strong as the gun laws of surrounding states. Illinois has strong gun laws, but Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin do not. Not must effort involved in driving an hour or two to another state to buy guns.

no one says it will solve the problem. It will minimize the chance of underage (under 21) shooters. There is no single solution to this complex problem.

People who could maybe have been helped if mental health care hadn't long since been gutted. People who had internal conflicts that, who knows, maybe their better self would have won over if it was just that little bit harder to get a gun.

People need to learn how to shoot. Start learning how to fire back at these people (in a safe manner) the issue is starting to become no one is firing back at people. Had 4 people started firing on the guy. Shots would’ve stopped a lot sooner. It no longer is a firing on innocent people. You have to fire back at who firing at you. Drawing the attention.
