Found it! The mystery recorder is the original version of the Marantz PMD-661 (not the Mkiii)

Nice work, @aa7jc!! I never would have thought to check Marantz, but that makes a lot of sense! I'm going to try and find one to compare it against the H6. I think the H6 will be hard to beat!
