Before replacing the motor. Open it up and check to make sure the set screw that holds the bearing to the end of the screw rail hasn’t worked itself loose. That’s all that was wrong with mine. Saved $100.
My loveseat from Bob’s furniture stopped reclining on both sides. Thank you for making this video! There’s many universal parts options on Amazon from new buttons, motors and cords.
Great video. I was disappointed in the warranty process after a year when told it would be 10 days before they could even process my claim. Found a good replacement motor on Ebay, and this was the best video on replacing it.
Great video. I had to fix a similar issue with my recliner today. Mine had way more cables with splitters running all over the place but I found that it was a three way splitter cable that the controls for both sides of the couch ran through. I was able to simply remove that section of cable. Doing so means I can't use the fancy led lights for the cup holders, but that's so minor I didn't care. Once I removed that splitter, everything worked as normal.
Good Video, saw it when I was searching to trouble shoot my sofa. I have a very similar sofa. One side would only recline, and not retract. So its stuck in recline. I swapped the switches from side to side. That didn't fix it. I then put a voltmeter on the plug for the motor, and hit the switch. I did see voltage for each direction I hit the switch, so it seems to be a bad motor. I have one on the way.

I had a question about my power reclining sectional. I had a plastic brace on one of the reclining chair's leg break in half. The chair is still operational, but the part where you put your legs is not as supportive. Do you know what the name of the piece is and where I can find it? Thanks!
Is that a piece that you could maybe glue back together? Something like that is not going to be a replacement part. If you can't glue it, then maybe make something else to swap it with .
First check to make sure all the connections are solid, could be a loose wire. But it's probably a short in the motor assembly you'll have to replace the whole thing like i did.
Thanks for your video. I have a similar problem. A few questions. First both of our couches have the same set of buttons on the left side the ones toward the back control the head rest motor and the ones toward the front control the recliner. The buttons for the recliner do not work, but the ones for the head rest do. Was that the same situation with yours? Second, can you include the part number for the motor you ordered. Thanks again for making this video it was very helpful. Sincerely, Rob Morris
Hi, sorry it took me so long! The motor is a KDPT007-52 which is only available from the factory but can be substituted with a KDPT007-02 - amzn.to/451N1mb
I have the same exact problem as Robert. If the headrest works, should I assume the controller is good and the recliner motor is bad? Thank you for the video.
@@marklyman6772 Hopefully this helps someone else. Mine was intermittent. The back worked but the main recliner was hit or miss. If I moved the controller just right while pressing the button it would work. I knew it was a switch issue. I pulled the bezel off which exposed 2 screws. Pulled the controller out and my yellow wire was detached. I could see from the solder which pin it came off of. I stripped it back, tinned the wire and pin. Soldered it back and put everything back together. No parts required and it works like new. My switch and motor are Kaidi.
What if it's stuck in the lounging position. I just moved it into my house from the other house and it's laid back fine, but then it wont go back to the sitting position. The light on the cup holder works the lights on the controller panel work, the neck rest controller works but it just won't set the recliner back up in the sitting position. I've checked all the connections and they're all fine. The other side of the recliner works great I'm baffled
That's actually what happened to me, what you'll have to do is put the whole thing upside down while it's opened because you're going to have to unhook the bolts like I show you in the video and you don't want it to slam down.
Hi. My question is; I check my power supply, when I just plug it to the wall, the green light comes up but as soon I connect it to the chair the green light goes out so the chair isn't working. I ordered a new one(power supply) but had the same results. Thx in advance
Hmm, if you verified it doesn't work with the light out, what I would suggest to try is unhook the controllers, then see if the light comes back on. If that doesn't work, then I would unhook the motors and see if the light comes on. That should indicate where the issue is.
What you call the controller is confusing. There is actually a control box elsewhere where all of the wires emanate that is different from the up/down switch or remote.
I replaced the motor and the motor is fine, but now that it’s installed the recliner starts to recline then stops up to a certain point. I can’t get it to go beyond that. When I try to recline it back down it doesn’t respond immediately and I either have to wait several minutes for it to work or I have to tilt the chair back for the recliner to go back to start position.
It sounds like you have an issue with the controller or one of the wires, you may need to swap some stuff from the working side to figure out what's wrong.
My recliner has a USB port next to the recliner buttons. If that's also not working and I've ensured that there's power, then likely it's the controller that's at fault?
My moms at home recliner is stuck in eject mode and it's fairly new ☹️ It doesn't make sense that a motor would go out just like that how ridiculous!! It must be the motor because I replaced the cable and no luck. It doesn't even seem like there's cables attached to this thing in the video but it's a single chair. Not all brands are made the same I guess.
Yeah, most likely it's a pinched wire in the back, that is the most common and unfortunately you have to replace the motor, but at least it's not that expensive. Just be careful when taking the old one off because it will want to close up.
You need to get yourself a milwaukee M12 cordless electric ratchet, either 3/8" or 1/4" drive instead of having to set up air compressor and air line. 😉
Can I borrow your air ratchet?😂 Seriously, when you call thr up/down switch (or a remote on some models) a "controller", it is confusing. There is actually a control box elseehere from which all of the wires emanate. Some videos point to the limit switch or the relays in the motor which are cheaper to replace than the entire motor.
I have yet to see one with a separate relay since sofas are running DC voltage, the controllers/buttons are all wired directly to the motorized components.

Nice job!
If the light not on dose that mean definitely dead motor stop power going through to the other side

The troubleshooting that you omitted is the part that I need to check
If I were you I would first swap the motor because it is by far the most common thing that goes bad
Check the switches
When we hooked up the new motor, its nitrogen working. Where do we need to check next if the new motor not getting power ?
You could try putting that motor on the other side of the sofa that's working to test the motor
Excellent video 🎉, thanks for sharing

What if it’s the controller? Are these universal, too?
Yes they are universal, however, they won't all fit in the same hole.
What you call the controller is confusing. There is actually a control box elsewhere where all of the wires emanate that is different from the up/down switch or remote.
@@Handygrrlthere is no other controller (in my chair). There is a transformer and power distribution.
How did you know it wasnt a remote...or in your case the power switch in the side of the chair?

Was the side that broke the most used side of the two?
No, it was the non-used side
My recliner has a USB port next to the recliner buttons. If that's also not working and I've ensured that there's power, then likely it's the controller that's at fault?
Yes, that's the likely issue but you can try swapping the controller for the other side first to be sure.
Can I just disconnect the motor from the lift mechanism to make it purely manual?
Yes you could do that but it likely won't hold its position.
I can't figure out how to check the controller? The panel lights up okay on it
Your controller is probably fine, it's most common that the motor goes out
Mine has zippers which makes it easier to get into it but there's a lot of wires up there

Why not avoid motors and get a manual?i think manual would be cheaper, plus less things to go wrong
If they keep breaking then yeah what's the point in buying electric if they're just going to break
