I really appreciate the laidback vibe and the openness in discussing money and the shame that comes with overspending. It's a cultural thing for us Filipinos not to discuss finances so openly kasi, "nakakahiya", or "bastos" pag-usapan in public, but I find that talking about it with such honesty and practicality is much more helpful than shying away from it. It seems I've found a new podcast to look forward to!

Megan explained it clear and easy for everyone afraid of budgeting.
It's cute how she made it into such a manageable small amount for everyone to easily grasp and understand. Tapos the way that they divided the amount into each sub-category is realistic too in terms of percentage. Thank you for such amazing informative content!!! We all need more of this in our lives.

My partner and I also did the same, with the 2 accounts thing. But the thing is, there are times that we need used the savings account on something because that account is the accessible at that time. What we did now is to open a joint account so all savings will go there, and we can use both other account on the expenses (non-avoidable and avoidable) and it's going well. We we're never tempted to use that account since it is not linked to any apps or purchases. Thanks tho for highlighting that SAVINGS should go to the NON-AVOIDABLE EXPENSES.

Never discussed money with my ex, so I don't know why he felt the need to hide his big purchase from me. In an effort to hide it, I caught him in a lie about his whereabouts. He said it's because he "doesn't want me to know that he bought four books." We never even judged each other about where our money goes, so it was a very questionable move from him. Also, being lied to is a bummer.

Hi, Mik and Meg. This was a nice talk. My partner and I have been engaged for over a year now, and we've been discussing how to handle our money when we eventually get married this year. Your practice in handling money is quite the same as ours but in reversed roles. Since i make much of the chunk in our income, my account will be the one to pay for our expenses and my husband-to-be's account will be for savings and emergency fund. I'm excited actually. I like budgeting and finance stuff. Hindi ako magaling sa math, but Mik's right that it is easy budgeting with calculator. I have the discipline, but my partner has it hard. 😂 So what I do is we talk about things regarding money; eventually naman, he gets me. He now has a life insurance because of our talks regarding our future. He's also invested in FarmOnPH just like me and is now venturing to learn about stock trading. I have a COL Financial account na kinekwento ko sknya, and he's also interested to learn more about it para daw may passive income din sya.

I agree. When dealing with finances as a couple, it all boils down to accountability, honesty and trust as well. For some reason, most women seem to associate money talks with shame so it's so awkward for them to lay it all out there sa umpisa. But once you do it, it's like growing pains.🤣

For the loaded question: personally, dapat e sabihin mo yung big expenses. Kasi kung may magandang reason ka naman why you bought it, your partner will understand but see to it na it is not beyond your means. It will always boil down to why do you have to hide it? Bcos if you know that big expenses is more of a luho and beyond your means, ayaw mo talaga e share kasi you know away ang patutunguhan. However, if u know na u bought it bcos may magandang patutunguhan yun and it is within sa kaya mo, then no need to hide it kasi ma jujustify mo naman yan as to why binili mo.
But moving forward, it is best to discuss first with your partner if you have big purchase pra ma brainstorm nyo if worth it ba and u will hear his perspective about it kasi most of the time, nagiging bias tayo sa item na we want that we reach to the point of discounting the cons of buying it kasi gustong gusto mo ito, with your partners perspective, mararationalize nyo yung big purchase na yun 😊

Totally #Salute to this couple. Couple goals talaga! Were going through the same process, it's a bit awkward explaining to my fiancee and I'm so thankful to this video. This summarizes everything and let her realize na lahat ng mga sinabi ko nuon ay hindi para punain lang ang ginagawa nya but instead, preparation pra sa future namin :). Salamt guys! keep it up and more power!

Nice topic! With our case, I handle our finances. Hehe since I'm more prudent when it comes to spending. But what we usually do is all expenses mangagaling from my husband's while all extra from his and my salary go to savings and investment. We even have an excel file for this. My favorite! Hahaha more money topics! ❤️

Your new financial goal of moving out of MM is pretty exciting. This new arrangement of being able to work from home opens a lot of these doors, removing the shackles of being in a big city to make big city money. We love to move back out to the cool new subdivisions in the provinces (Laguna/Cavite)...the ONLY NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENT would be FIBER INTERNET.😆

a very sensible couple and complement each other. Me and my husband are doing the same thing as yours. We've been married for 29 years and not a single time that we argued about money. We were able to get a house here in the UK using my savings as down payment and he pays the monthly mortgage, insurance and all other expenses. After 7 years we paid the balance coming from my savings.

I can totally relate to the motorized desk. I'm a teacher and my department was next for an upgrade in furniture and I really liked the motorized desk which was a priority in my furniture selection, but due to the Pandemic that budget went out the window😔

I love this idea of handling finances. Maybe my fiancé and I should talk about these things as early as now. In addition, what we usually do before purchasing an item especially if it will cost us big amount is we give time frame to think it over and over and over then before we knew we needed it, we actually don't need it anymore 😅 Impulsive buying is really what we are preventing to happen. Emotions are deceitful sometimes. Thanks for this very useful content. God bless you both!

Solenn and Nico do the same thing! I remember watching one of Solenn's vlog (a long looong time ago) where she talked about how they manage their money (i.e. Both she and Nico spend their own money, then they have a separate account for house bills and other responsibilities). I think every couple should use this set up especially in this era where most couples have their own job and salary. Money makes people crazy. So this system reduces the stress and pressure on the relationship!
