Arnel Pineda is awesome. It is wonderful that Journey found someone with enough skill and talent to fill Perry's shoes and continue bring us their fantastic songs.
I am glad I was able to share Journey's music with my kids! If Steve was around great but he ain't there..the show must go on..That's show business. Stop the hate, let the music play! AP sounds good!

The good thing about having Pineda is that Journey is keeping their music alive for the new generations to know it, but the ones like me who were young back in the 80s know that Steve Perry was unique, and no one will ever replace him.

I have nothing but respect for Mr. Pineda. He is NOT Mr. Perry, however. He just copies him. And it's kind of unnerving. I wish for the real thing.

there are videos sp and ap are in a sort of duet....if you close your eyes you won't know who is ap or sp in the duet.

Now, I believe that there is someone who doesn't stop believing in their dreams! Keep it up Arnel. I believe that you simply love to sing. You sing every song with conviction. Screw the haters.. You don't want to be somebody else. All you just want to do is SING! Hope people would understand that!

Both are great singers, theres no need to argue. And to think, only 70s and 80s kids will remember SP as the Journey's Vocalist, but AP is today's generation's Journey. You have to accept the fact SP is already done with Journey and there's AP to rock it again for the new generation. AP is a very down to earth man, he never claim to be as great as perry, though he is really awesome. How can you not love AP? You cant even sing as great as that. So please be careful with your words then, sing in that range and for sure you'll be fuckingly horrible.

I worked under a Filipino Sr. Chief Mess Cook for 3 months when I was given my first shipboard duty station, and introduction to surface warfare in my stint in the Navy. 1984, this was the coolest dude I met in there. My best friends were a Mexican a black guy 2 white guys and a gay dude. This was in 1985. We knew how to get along back then, nobody had to sue us or threaten us to get along. We really tried hard to make friends with everybody. We were all we had.
Arnel may not be Steve Perry, but I'll tell you what....THIS GUY HAS ONE HELL OF A VOICE!! HE Freakin Rocks!! I haven't heard a range like his on ANYONE who can sing their ass off like he does. I could give a rats ass if he isn't Perry. If Perry never cared to get back with Journey, shit, oh well, se la vie. Arnel is the next best singer close to him. And that is what the public wants to hear. A voice that's sounds like and brings it like the old Journey we grew up listening to. That is what the fans want and are excited about!! I could listen to Arnel sing all day and any day!!! I'd pay big money to go and see them.

yea..im one of the biggest journey fans you will ever find..grew up with this...im not afraid to say that arnel will never be steve Perry, but Im so thankful that another generation will be able to listent to JOurney's music and feel what i felt the moment i heard Steve Perrys voice, and Neal Schons awesome riffs...long live JOURNEY!!!
Saw them at Jones Beach this summer. The band and Arnel are awesome. I like band more with Arnel and Dean but Dean is getting himself right TG. Steve Smith is original drummer and technically better than Dean - I just like Deans passion.
Arnel saved the band - made them relevant again. I'll see them every time they're in town. This is one of my favorite groups of all time. Neal is amazing guitarist and the band just seams to be really grateful for the present and enjoying themselves. I don'y miss Perry one bit and I'm sure no one n band does either. Arnels voice - and story give one goose bumps - heartbreak to heartwarming. What a freak unbelievable Cinderella story we're all witnessing! What luck for not just him but band who's passion he has helped reinvigorate. He has the voice of an Angel to me. His is as pleasant on the ears as Andrea Bocelli 's to me. He's up there with Paul Rogers, Robert Plant , Freddie Mercury. Philip Bailey, Smoky Robinson, and certainly Steve Perry - but each are either dead or their voices are.....
Neal said it gives band an international appeal and it does - as an Iconic US Band they now better represent our multi ethnicity. I think Ross said it best, The band will go on as long as Arnel does. He has truly given band a second life.
Who the hell could say he sucks? He's pretty much hitting every note like Steve would. Remember this is LIVE. Imagine what a studio recorded version could sound like.
I've been a lead singer in bands for the last 15 years, this dude's the real deal, definitely deserves the spotlight. Steve Perry can't be replaced but you have to respect this kid, especially if you know his back-story. Pretty amazing.
After all, Arnel is not replacing Steve... he is continuing the legend for this new era....

Bottom line is that these songs are rock classics and the fact that this kid has the chops to sing them is a testament to his talent. Arnel Pineda is a made man !!

Just compared the Steve Perry and arnel pineda versions of this song. Whilst Steve Perry does have a decent voice, his enunciation is not very good, where as arnel clearly pronounces the lyrics. Also, I got the feeling that Steve was slightly uncomfortable, or stiff on stage as compared to areno being relaxed and clearly enjoying himself. As for vocals and range, arnel is better and doesn't give the impression that he is struggling for breath.

I never thought someone could replace Steve Perry but I have to say that when I saw Arnel on Oprah I believe...he has an amazing voice and I will never stop loving Journey- Rock on Guys!!!!!
No one will ever replace Steve and I think it would be an insult to his legacy to ever think so. I have a sort of love-hate relationship. With the idea of replacing groups that should have long since retired.
You may be bringing up a whole new generation of fans. But you are stabbing in the back. Those who remember how it all started. Not hating in any way here. But I still have mixed feelings about it.

This guy's got typical short flip legs but the awesome voice, that has become the hallmark of Filipinos. They are the world's best house cleaners, nannies and singers.
Arnel can NEVER replace Steve Perry but he's the next best thing.
Give ear to the magic of the bass guitar, It did made this beautiful song a real rock.
it's phenomenal how they just move on, pick up a new singer, and continue to enjoy life. it takes great will and courage to move on from something like that.

This young man has a GREAT gifted voice. The sad truth is Journey can't go on without the "Perry sound".
If anyone can get behind this song it's Arnel. Imagine singing in a Journey cover band in the Philipines, and then to find yourself fronting the real deal a year later in front of thousands. You also have to figure that he really wants and embraces the gig. Like hitting the lottery, but even better. Follow those dreams young man.

Arnel is a fantastic singer and his vocals are a wonderful way to continue the journey with JOURNEY for a new generation. Steve Perry will always be remembered for his soulful voice and Arnel carries it on so we can keep enjoying them! I love them and cannot wait to see them in Atlantic City on 8.11!!!! Saw them in Hershey PA four years ago and Arnel was on FIRE!!!

Arnel is captivating because he has amazing talent and sings from the heart. He makes the songs his own without being intimidated by SP's shadow. His life story is also inspiring.

I think Arnel's story is very inspiring. Reading about his life before Journey, you can see he's not someone who became what he is today overnight. He's been singing most of his life, even when he was sleeping on the streets in the Philippines, and now he created a foundation to help homeless kids. I wrote an article about Arnel for The Christian Post, you can google "Documental Arnel Pineda" to read it. His documentary is being shown here in New York as part of the TriBeCa Film Festival.
Journey was absolutely correct to have Arnel Pineda singing this...it MUST have this sound to even BE THE SONG! If journey had not brought in Arnel, they could not have performed "Don't stop believing" ever again. IT is the vocals that make this song....this had to be...
If you just hear this on the radio and you don't know anything about the leadsingers filipino origine you would swear he is an all american genuine rock singer. That guy rocks, what a classic voice!

Oh, I agree. He is doing his own thing. Like all the other lead singers have. I was just responding to the original posters comment "I challenge to you to find someone who sounds closer." I was just merely stating that Deen Castronovo sounded the closest. But I like what each singer has contributed because it is different. They are what makes Journey name quite literal. The band has been on a musical Journey since 1973! :) Hope this clears up any misunderstandings :)

Journey is one of the few bands that can get away with replacing their lead singers. Queen can't really do that, but with Journey, it works.
One of the best replacements for the hardest position to hire for in a band! I agree that Steve Perry is a legend, but I'm amazed at how lucky they got to find Arnel.
