Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they modified the game for the Wii U version, then took the same modified version and put it on the Switch. Would even go far as to say that the emulator is emulating the emulator which is emulating the game Switch emulator -> Wii U emulator -> N64 game. All just speculation of course

I mean the VC emulator wasn't bad. Control stick sensitivity not quite accurate and the fairies in MM being the wrong colour. Otherwise those emulators were great. Somehow Nintendo managed to make worse and worse emulators over time.

My concern with all this is that there might be a logic trap in the future bizness logic o' Nintendo. Either: they don't meet whatever their profit estimate thing for this is and conclude "oh, people don't want the old games as much as we thought, let's not worry about improving the emulation." Or: they do meet the profit estimate and thus conclude everything is "good enough" and thus decide not to improve anything. I genuinely don't know a guaranteed way to get Nintendo out of this logic trap if they fall into it.
I know the perfect response to this trap. if everyone had rushed to by the expansion pass showing an overwhelming amount in the sales, then have barely anyone, if anyone at all, cancel their subscriptions shortly after. that shows the service was what people wanted, then shows it's not how we wanted it.
Man remember when one of the devs was having nightmares that OoT would become unplayable due to nasty bugs and oversights? Sure has turned into a dream now. it's full of bullshit.

I was able to beat the game in 6 hours. Completely playable. A little clunky. The poor graphics in some cut scenes didn't really bother my gameplay. Shooting gallery was my biggest issue.
Nintendo should have remade oot. Plain and simple. The nso was better for nintendo because they can get games sooner to people and then fix them. Instead of rebuilding the game from the ground up and then selling them to us. Nintendo had 8 years to get the ball rolling and they fumbled the ball. Now its the 4th qrt and nintendo is down by 23 points. And nintendo just made a field goal.

The input lag on the controls is pretty horrifying (like it was on Wii U as well), but most people are surprisingly tolerant of even this much input lag. This version of the game is honestly fine for new players, it's way worse for people who know the game who know it shouldn't be like this.

Man, people here defending the input lag because they “didn’t notice it” OoT is one of my all time favorite games, and the WiiU and Switch emus are the only ones that have /that/ much input lag. Also, Nintendo didn’t remake the game, they built a trash emulator that runs a (roughly) 15-year-old version of the rom that is the game, it renders the fog incorrectly, has weird button mapping, stick sensitivity issues, and probably the worst of all, the input lag. But it’s obvious most of the people here don’t know what they’re talking about, or how roms/emulation works.
.2 second input lag would have gotten this game canned in its original release but every 17 year old and their 35 year old dad have just GOT to defend Nintendo from the big meanies expecting them to put out passing-grade emulation.

They applied a patch to a single game, which doesn't even affect anything but a single symbol in the game, a very minor texture edit. Nintendo has indeed used this exact same patch for GC, Wii, and Wii U. All it does is change the original Gerudo Moon symbol (which was very similar to an Islamic symbol) into the Gerudo symbol used in every game since. No, the issue is the emulator is SCUFFED AS HELL. All of the bugs, messed up graphics, and input lag are a result of a poor quality emulator.

The average gamer only cares about being able to just launch the game and take the nostalgia trip. They don't really care if it's inferior on a technical level. That's fine and all, but casuals have the problem where they despise anyone who dares to care about something that they don't. If someone doesn't care about the technical problems, and still enjoy the game, cool; however I do, and I'm in my right to hold such a massive company to higher standards. It would be cool if Nintendo would let you play the game at the original resolution. I've never really liked the look of N64 in High Quality. (But let's be honest, if they can't even give us Link's correct gauntlet colors for $80, I doubt they'd do anything cool like that.)
@@rob25222 I know. I wish there was an option to play with the visuals at their native resolution integer scaled to my screen, even if it's blurry. The N64 has hardware Anti-Aliasing and in my opinion, games don't look right without it.

I tried on my Switch and apparently C right is ZR plus A. It’s how you play the other ocarina notes too. It’s horrible button mapping considering they could have literally ripped the mapping from OOT3D for the OOT64 Switch port to make it so much easier EDIT: Got my buttons mixed up. I said Y instead of A, since A is the rightmost letter button

I dont have a switch so can't evaluate but even with the minimal changes I'd still argue more effort went into porting Skyward Sword to switch than with OoT and the other N64 titles (though particularly OoT).

Project64 is a beast compared to Nintendo’s own emulator, the problem is that Nintendo’s own emulator has several old graphical bugs that have already been fixed on the Project64 emulator a long time ago

The looks are fine to me, it's almost the old N64 look. I'm not asking for any more than that. How it runs is another story. The 3DS versions of OOT and Majora's Mask run just fine but there's no excusing this. They should have kept the fog or at least player test it beforehand imo.

OoT is considered by many to be the most iconic Legend of Zelda game, and one of the most iconic games of all time. And Nintendo does this to it. Ffs just pirate it for gamecube, don't give nintendo money
The 3DS version got criticized and rightfully so for making the Ganon battle too bright and as a result less moody and epic. It doesn't look like this version will fare much better in that regard.

I know how you guys feel. Used to play Halo multi-player all the time, with Halo 2 being my favorite. MCC drops in 2014, turns out they ported the Windows Vista version of Halo 2 instead of the original Xbox version. The Windows Vista port was already hot garbage, and of course it only got worse after being ported again.

Regarding the new Gerudo symbols: The GC version actually has them replacing the old ones in the ROM (which can be confirmed by dumping the game and opening the ROM in the emulator of your choice), while Wii VC uses an unmodified 1.2 ROM and replaces the symbols at runtime. I do not know for sure whether Wii or Wii U VC replaces the symbols in Dampé's grave (and can't readily check), but GC did not.

The only version of Ocarina of time I played was the 3ds remake so I don’t really have solid ground to stand on. So I went out and played the original, and the way I realized that it looked so much foggier added this sense of mysticism, not to mention it didn’t lag all that much on my input but it still did cuz the controller was busted. Got a new one and it worked much better. Sad to see how half made this is
Watched this live and it's funny to see how badly this was done. That being said I wouldn't expect them to fix glitches like stick as adult since it still is technically not intended to be a thing. It really does suck that a port can't just be the same as the original but obviously I don't know what sort of work goes into these ports either.
Its beyond just that, the emulator they're using seems to be horribly inaccurate and has input lag that even casual players find uncomfortably high. On top of the many other issues with controls etc. Its clear that almost no work went into this.

From what I understand Nintendo used "fog" to hide the extremely low texture quality in the Nintendo 64 version of OoT. It was used simply to make the game look better and hide the low draw distance. I still have my Nintendo 64 and Zelda OoT! It's my favorite 64 game besides Mario 64 and I play it all the time still
I dont think you can really use that to justify the thick fog in the House of Skulltula. Plus the fog is in the original version so there is no reason for them to remove it

I understand not liking the port for various reasons, such as the input delay and the fog not appearing properly. But i don't understand why someone would get upset that a game messes up when you try to glitch it out and do shit you're not supposed to. Like "omg the game lags when you screw with the menu and equip a deku stick as an adult". Yeah, that makes sense. They programmed the stick to not be equippable for a reason. Its like forcing your car into reverse when you're going 60 on the highway then complaining that your engine stopped working.

Glad that I didn't pay the money for the upgrade of the online membership, I'll stick with the basic one as pretty much I only use it for online play from time to time (but mostly Smash with my bros.), plus... I have hooked my good old consoles for a better EXP. overall, and while I'm not a speedrunner or anything like that, a bad emulation really gets on my nerves while playing the games.
If they notice too many people stick to the old subscription , you bet they will make the new sub mandatory , instead of making the sensible decision of making the new sub more appealing.

Not sure. Tricks seem too inconsistent without it, but maybe it would be possible to play without save states with enough practice. A lot of Ocarina of Time speedrunning has relied on the lag that comes with being an old game. Not only does the Switch not have that lag, but at the same time, the input lag (or the difference between pressing a button and having it activate) is apparently longer. They still managed to get an Ape game with Mario Picross (not translated, but still available for English app).
The more I watch the Switch OoT emulation, the more I’m convinced I’d rather just keep playing OoT in my N64 or 3DSXL. I thought this would be good as I’d be able to play it on the go, and due to my joint issues the 3DS digs into my hands in the wrong places so I can only play for a short while on there without being in pain, but honestly I’d rather deal with the physical pain rather than the mental pain from watching this lag so much 😂
The fog itself looks like it's everywhere and surrounds Link entirely, because the fog distance isn't rendering where it should be which is the far distance, because it's rendering the fog closer to the camera instead it's making everything look weird and brighter than it should be, instead of rendering fog in the distance away from the camera.
I just finished playing it on the switch. Aiming was the hardest thing to do. I simply cant understand why it wasnt remastered like it was for the 3DS. Super disappointing

They used to. Wii was solid and Wii U, minus the dark filter, was very good.

I was able to beat the game in 6 hours. Completely playable. A little clunky. The poor graphics in some cut scenes didn't really bother my gameplay. Shooting gallery was my biggest issue.

And yes, you can match JoyCons to Wii inputs, as shown in SSHD, the game that most prominenly used Wii motion sensor, and hell, on an emulator you can emulate the wii pointer to the rigth stick
The Prime games can also be ported from Gamecube, and ad gyro controlls and a new controll scheme if they have issiues with the motion controls

The input lag on the controls is pretty horrifying (like it was on Wii U as well), but most people are surprisingly tolerant of even this much input lag.
This version of the game is honestly fine for new players, it's way worse for people who know the game who know it shouldn't be like this.

Man, people here defending the input lag because they “didn’t notice it” OoT is one of my all time favorite games, and the WiiU and Switch emus are the only ones that have /that/ much input lag.
Also, Nintendo didn’t remake the game, they built a trash emulator that runs a (roughly) 15-year-old version of the rom that is the game, it renders the fog incorrectly, has weird button mapping, stick sensitivity issues, and probably the worst of all, the input lag.
But it’s obvious most of the people here don’t know what they’re talking about, or how roms/emulation works.
You can NOT miss all these issues. Either the playtesters never played the original, or they didn't playtest this thing.
.2 second input lag would have gotten this game canned in its original release but every 17 year old and their 35 year old dad have just GOT to defend Nintendo from the big meanies expecting them to put out passing-grade emulation.

They applied a patch to a single game, which doesn't even affect anything but a single symbol in the game, a very minor texture edit. All it does is change the original Gerudo Moon symbol (which was very similar to an Islamic symbol) into the Gerudo symbol used in every game since.
No, the issue is the emulator is SCUFFED AS HELL. All of the bugs, messed up graphics, and input lag are a result of a poor quality emulator.

The average gamer only cares about being able to just launch the game and take the nostalgia trip. They don't really care if it's inferior on a technical level. I tried on my Switch and apparently C right is ZR plus A. It’s how you play the other ocarina notes too. It’s horrible button mapping considering they could have literally ripped the mapping from OOT3D for the OOT64 Switch port to make it so much easier

The 3DS version got criticized and rightfully so for making the Ganon battle too bright and as a result less moody and epic. It doesn't look like this version will fare much better in that regard.

Regarding the new Gerudo symbols: The GC version actually has them replacing the old ones in the ROM (which can be confirmed by dumping the game and opening the ROM in the emulator of your choice), while Wii VC uses an unmodified 1.2 ROM and replaces the symbols at runtime. I do not know for sure whether Wii or Wii U VC replaces the symbols in Dampé's grave (and can't readily check), but GC did not.

The only version of Ocarina of time I played was the 3ds remake so I don’t really have solid ground to stand on. So I went out and played the original, and the way I realized that it looked so much foggier added this sense of mysticism, not to mention it didn’t lag all that much on my input but it still did cuz the controller was busted. Got a new one and it worked much better. Sad to see how half made this is

Wrong. You have experienced roughly DOUBLE the input lag that you would have playing on the n64, even when playing on an ideal screen this is the case. I dont care if you can't feel it, it's there and others who suck less can easily feel the difference
If you don't believe me I suggest you give this other video a watch, it was created for the NSO controversy specifically and is made using all of the correct equipment (high speed cameras and a special device that connects to the monitor to get a baseline added input lag). He's comparing Mario instead of Zelda but the input lag findings are the same between games

From what I understand Nintendo used "fog" to hide the extremely low texture quality in the Nintendo 64 version of OoT. It was used simply to make the game look better and hide the low draw distance. I still have my Nintendo 64 and Zelda OoT! It's my favorite 64 game besides Mario 64 and I play it all the time still
I dont think you can really use that to justify the thick fog in the House of Skulltula. Plus the fog is in the original version so there is no reason for them to remove it

I understand not liking the port for various reasons, such as the input delay and the fog not appearing properly. But i don't understand why someone would get upset that a game messes up when you try to glitch it out and do shit you're not supposed to. Like "omg the game lags when you screw with the menu and equip a deku stick as an adult". Yeah, that makes sense. They programmed the stick to not be equippable for a reason. Its like forcing your car into reverse when you're going 60 on the highway then complaining that your engine stopped working.

The Symbols actually being changed in Dampé's Grave is Actually Very Nice. for me at least, since i prefer this one over the crescent moon. one.

Glad that I didn't pay the money for the upgrade of the online membership, I'll stick with the basic one as pretty much I only use it for online play from time to time (but mostly Smash with my bros.), plus... I have hooked my good old consoles for a better EXP. overall, and while I'm not a speedrunner or anything like that, a bad emulation really gets on my nerves while playing the games.
If they notice too many people stick to the old subscription , you bet they will make the new sub mandatory , instead of making the sensible decision of making the new sub more appealing.
@@ZelosSama Honeslty, it wouldn't be a suprise, giving how Nintendo does a bogus job in that part, if that happens, the family membership would end up being my only option with the help of my bro and maybe one of my cousins or aunts.
RetroArch will suit your needs just fine. Amazing controller support too and very useful with Parsec.

I presume stave states would be banned for use for speed running even though it is an unmodded feature on the switch?
Not sure. Tricks seem too inconsistent without it, but maybe it would be possible to play without save states with enough practice. A lot of Ocarina of Time speedrunning has relied on the lag that comes with being an old game. Not only does the Switch not have that lag, but at the same time, the input lag (or the difference between pressing a button and having it activate) is apparently longer. They still managed to get an Ape game with Mario Picross (not translated, but still available for English app).
It's an unmodded feature on wii u vc too. It's banned there, so why would it change?
Nintendo already addressed this, the bugs and graphical issues was because something happened to the emulation code when porting it to switch

Absolutely not! The Fog is there to make the game look better, it is an artistic choice.
That was the case on breath of the wild on wii u. Who knows though in this case. It seems messed up.
If an official version of OoT has save states then they can be used in speed runs right?
They had a vote on this and save states are not allowed.

For the longest I been scratching my head yelling at my phone like wtf is OoT? Lol
The more I watch the Switch OoT emulation, the more I’m convinced I’d rather just keep playing OoT in my N64 or 3DSXL. I thought this would be good as I’d be able to play it on the go, and due to my joint issues the 3DS digs into my hands in the wrong places so I can only play for a short while on there without being in pain, but honestly I’d rather deal with the physical pain rather than the mental pain from watching this lag so much 😂
Alternatively, Wii U homebrew version that removes the dark filter (still HD like the Switch version) or RetroArch.

The fog itself looks like it's everywhere and surrounds Link entirely, because the fog distance isn't rendering where it should be which is the far distance, because it's rendering the fog closer to the camera instead it's making everything look weird and brighter than it should be, instead of rendering fog in the distance away from the camera.
This is run better on my phone from 2014, and on my laptop from 2003
I really hope a Remaster of OOT 3D comes out, cause I ain't touchin this with a deku stick

I just finished playing it on the switch. Aiming was the hardest thing to do. I simply cant understand why it wasnt remastered like it was for the 3DS. Super disappointing

This is sad to look back on. It’s mostly fixed now, but the fact Nintendo fucked up the highest rated game emulated on their newest system, says something..
I'm surprised Nintendo doesn't just hire the people making the absurdly accurate emulators. Make it so that they can't work on their current emulators that are open to the public in their contracts. That's two birds with a single stone for Nintendo.

Yes... and no. Some of the fog is for atmosphere (Kokiri Forest at night, for example)

As someone who loves the switches games and loves it as a concept.It pisses me off that nintendo gives so much disrespect to it.If they cared and Put some effort they could actually put a monopoly on the gaming industry
I'd rather have the 3DS port to the Switch. That's what I prefer over the original.

Personally I haven't noticed any of this input lag, might be cause I'm used to it. But I 100% agree the pricing for something like this is pretty dumb
