"Before anyone requests, no i'm not going to compare it in Flight Sim, DCS, ACC, Automobilista, IL2 or anything else :)" Damn it David, stop reading my mind! But then again, I got my Aero now, so I know what the difference is like. Thanks for all your hard work!
Yep :) it's because as you know, it's a restart of Varjo Base and game in between each change. I only did this video because someone wanted it, I'm not bothered about it at all. I hope you're enjoying your Aero too?
My limited experience on the Varjo Base 3.5 software update is that it really works. You can see it in in the virtual desktop for example which is not warping like it used to be. However when this fix is enabled in Varjo Base it seems to take up some CPU power. Some sims for example don't really suffer about the warping in the 1st place but require high fps. I'd probably turn the fix off in iRacing, Dirt Rally 2, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2 but maybe have it enabled in flight sims like IL2 and DCS. For DCS there is also a separate fix to remove barrel distortion. I've made a short video with links to the original instructions on how to do it.
@@djtaylorutube I am enjoying mine quite a bit, recently managed to make it home from a long work trip, and there was my Aero waiting for me. My pet peeve now is the stereoscopic misalignment of the red color channel. Watch closely for bright red things, they hover a bit too close to you than they should, you can see it in VB and in every game. I hope they fix that.
@@mhe0815 I've seen similar when looking at the GNS530 in FS but also in my G2. It looks like the cockpit panel "LCD" is comprised of different layers per colour so i'm not sure it's just an Aero thing.
I love the idea that we, Humans, are - in ourselves - blind to the virtual world, and we have to wear all kinds of corrective lenses to see the - otherwise perfectly sharp, undistorted and infinite FPS - virtual world with our own eyes. We will, however, never “see” it perfectly unless we wire it straight into our brains (leaving out the picky eyes).
Even if that was available today I would never take it. It would make one vulnerable to hacking, or a corrupt power to control your mind. Companies like Facebook are already trying to do that.
@@04dram04 Considering the unimaginable pleasure and excitement of somehow being able to stream audiovisual (and possibly sensory) data straight into the brain, hardly anybody would mind the risks (apart from you and me) - but for now, I’m waiting for the new GPUs and upscaling technics, and a new Aero with wider FOV and higher FPS (like 144) in a year...
It's not evident in the headset. I suspect that the ultrawide lens on the camera is having a bigger effect than anything else. I'm struggling to see the effect of the correction in this video but it's very different in the headset. The problem with such a static video as this is that you're only seeing one lens, camera artefacts and also you're seeing the entire 90 degree field of view presented across about 15 degrees which isn't anything like the headset experience.
To be honest, I don't see it at all when using it. :) I don't specifically look for it and i'm not complaining about it, this was purely for illustration because someone wanted to see TTL video. As ever, the issue with trying to analyse TTL video is that the viewer is looking at 90 degrees of headset view but only across about 15 degrees in flat panel. That's wholly unrealistic and doesn't factor in how it's perceived in the headset.
@@djtaylorutube I don't agree with you on this one DavidT, I think that there is a huge visible difference in the video before and after. Before is really not doable regarding the warping for me; but after looks OK but still with room of improvement. I can imagine that when you're closer to the lens with your eyes that the "after version" is good enough. Yes it's not 100% gone indeed but the difference is significant and you really did well with this video by showing the difference. Even the CA is less now, but not gone enough yet, I am sure that Varjo keeps improving this subject and others(I hope that next on this list is an "custom tweakable CA setting").

I wonder what extra strain it puts on computer. Worth it either way.

With the correction, warping is more evident on the sides!

The correction made a major difference.
Hard to tell the difference in the vid for me. But I know from owning it that it is a substantial difference.
Yes that's exactly my opinion too :)
Without Correction = Fisheye lens. With correction = far lesser fisheye lens that you can get use to and never notice again.
Still bad...

I'm expecting mine soon. Based on the major reviewers it is greatly diminished, and I'm sure it's much different up closer to the lens.
It looks a lot better. I doubt I would notice it either. I'm used to the PiMax 8kx.
@@kangjames2492 It is yes :) I can't really tell the difference in these examples but I can in the headset.
