Hi, this is just holding a 4K action camera in about the right spot. :)

I was driving mine, been in the family since 1976. I wanted to do the Volvo world record attempt at Silverstone the year before but the clutch disintegrated a week prior, so I wasn't able to take my old 850 round the track. (See, not all EV's *winks*)

Oh I succumbed and went for a Honeycomb and then the Bravo throttles when they were on offer at £150.

@@victorperry160 Yes and no. Without doubt the Honeycomb provides a good experience out of the box and includes some switches which removes the need for the Logitech switch panel that I was using. The honeycomb uses a bungee cord for centering which works well, same mod could be done with the Logitech. The modded Logitech resolution is no different in FS from the Honeycomb. I haven't got round to using the Bravo throttles yet as I need to rebuild my flight console to accept them instead of what's there now.

What you have to appreciate here is that you're viewing in the centre of your view, that which would normally be in your periphery. Also, this is an old video, they have since significantly changed the warp correction anyway. :)

I would say that it depends on use case. Do you need highest fidelity? Consensus is that it suits simmers rather than general gaming.

That's a bit vague, can you expand on "bad"? What's bad exactly? :)

@@KurtisandHurdle ah now I understand :) It's expensive, it's down to the individual as to whether that equates to being worth it and you've still got a great headset with the G2. :)

@@djtaylorutube 102 fov? my index has a wider fov. Im tempted to get the pimax with 200fov but the Varjo lenses with no god rays is very important to me. I hate them in the index

@@NitroVipers3 What needs to be factored in is that the FOV is usable. Compared with the Pimax which is not. It becomes peripheral vision but you can't move your eyes around in the scene without moving your head because the view in the Pimax (and G2) for that matter, is not clear beyond the sweet spot. That's the difference! Simply comparing numbers on a spec sheet doesn't work when the optics are fundamentally completely different.

@@djtaylorutube Nothing outside your funnel of vision is in focus anyway but I get it. I have a vive pro with the samsung lens's in it. non Fresnel lenses are way better with a huge sweet spot. I hate the 110 fov in my index. Its like looking thru binoculars in most games.

@@NitroVipers3 Yes what I mean by looking around is just that. Example would be cockpit instruments. With a G2, you kind of have to point your head at every instrument to read it clearly. Looking out of the cockpit, you have to point your head at what you want to see as sharp. That's where the Aero shines as it becomes more natural in use and your eyes can roam without moving your head. I agree we'd all likea huge FOV but my Pimax 8KX hasn't been used since I got my Aero.

That's a very good price and it's a great headset too. I paid for all my headsets, no freebies for me! :)

and valve is apparently coming out with another vr headset codenamed "deckard" thats gonna be 4k x 4k per eye. no doubt thats gonna be expensive as well, but hopefully valve will subsidize it like they do the steam deck to reach a larger audience

Yes! We await to see if Pimax will deliver or not on the 12K. I'm pleased to see that a lot of the issues with the 8KX are much improved with update 10 and OpenXR toolkit according to those doing the beta. That's a great headset, especially in biplanes, the sense of wide view is excellent and less focus on reading instruments.

@@djtaylorutube The reason I'm very excited about the Crystal is that you can swap the lenses and choose between 140° FOV with the Aeros 35ppd quality, or go with an insane 45ppd quality with the Aeros FOV. Just perfect! Since I mainly fly IFR in msfs, the 45ppd option would be great for that, but when I fly in DCS the wide FOV would be the way to go. And built in tracking and sound and all the extra features. I just can't wait to find out how good it is. And even if its bad, I'll just go with the Aero

Far better, it is also far better inside the cockpit. The clarity beyond the immediate sweet spot that the G2 has makes the Aero less tiring and more convincing and you don't have to keep moving your head to target everything that you want to see sharp. It is at a completely different price point of course. G2 is a very good headset too.

Because I had already spent enough over the years on various bits of hardware and this was a cheap modification. I didn't feel like spending another £250 just to change that. That said, I have since changed yoke. :)

In Alyx? I have no clue, no reason to bother looking, it's totally fluid with an i9-10850K and a 3090

Err, I don't even play the game, it never seems to start in VR where I want it and I get bored after about 30 seconds trying to make it so something :). I only did this video reluctantly because people asked. :)

@@djtaylorutube really appreciate this! acc can be an incredibly tedious game if you're not serious about sim racing, I have a Quest 2 and was wondering just how good a Varjo Aero would be. Turns out it's better than I could've anticipated, now I'm seriously considering picking one up!

You'll enjoy the Aero much more in my opinion. I also have the 8KX and it's collecting dust because on MSFS, you can only drive it at small FOV even with a 3090 and that's about the same as the Aero but the difference being that the Aero is just so much clearer and across the FOV. You don't get that with the Pimax.

Yes the G2 and Quest offer great value. If you want the best clarity, it's the Aero. If money isn't an issue, it doesn't matter which you go for :) or all of them!

Hi Brian, thanks for the comment. I know what you mean about flying real hours though for a few reasons I no longer do that. I spent less on getting my licence than on my flight sim PC and various accessories. :) I do have a G2 and started with that. It's a good headset and clarity in the centre is very good but what the Aero brings is much wider clarity across the view that makes it more natural for your eyes to look around. I have a video (because it's UA-cam) of just comparing two stills, one Aero, one G2. The purpose isn't to compare the headsets and say one is better than the other, that's a much wider topic which has to factor in cost but what I try to show is the difference in picture for people to understand and make their own mind up. Performance, the Aero is better in my opinion as to get 100% render there's actually LESS pixels than the G2 @ 100% render as the G2 then crops the rendered image to display it. However, at present the G2 offers motion reprojection which isn't yet available on the Aero. I personally don't find it a big issue, others are distraught about it :) If spending the funds to obtain a better headset are readily available, you'll likely be happy. If scraping around for every last $ and selling a kidney is involved then disappointment is more likely as the expectations for the amount spent are likely to be higher. It's not perfect, you'll need an audio solution but with a 3D printer, options are there and even without.
