I don’t know a single person who buys a case to use stock fans or put 3 fans in a case that can hold 10, wouldn’t it be more poignant to not recommend this case if you barely intend to take advantage of the air flow? I recently bought this case and have been happy with it (Airflow) - I've got 4x 120, 2x140 case fans and 2x 140 CPU fans, I've been optimising for noise and have been pretty happy with how low I can dial the fans down.
One thing I'd note is that due to the way the radiator mounts are - the Arctic Freezer II 280 is quite tricky to install in anywhere except the front. The top doesn't leave any room so any motherboard with anything but the smallest VRM heatsink on it is going to block it. I'm happy with putting the the heatsink in the front as I think getting the cool air over the radiator should allow me to keep the fans quieter, but something worth considering.
One other slight knock is that I found this case a bit tricky to build in even compared to the smaller case I came from (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX from 2015).

My computer is not a the holy shrine that I, as an e-monk, must bow down to in daily meditation on the holy documentation bestowed upon me by the elders of my monastery... Strangely enough, 20 years ago I did custom water loop and 400W peltier elements to get my Dual Celeron II 400MHz to run stable at 600MHz... lets just say "the solution" to condensation problems wasn't worthy of a glass pane...

Honestly, the case, even with two glass panels, was far easier to work with than anything else I'd ever used. It was also my first time doing custom water loop and tube bending, and I really enjoyed the whole build.
The only thing I had to be more careful about was not scratching the plastic PETG tubing, other than that, the glass is WAY less likely to get scratched than paint or, god forbid, those old acrylic panels PCs used to use.... Ugh... those would scratch just from looking at them. lol

I "fit" a 3x140mm radiator with the bottom fan somewhat suffocated, and all fans aren't screwed in with all four screws into the radiator. It works because the Corsair H170i ELITE radiator fit with zero clearance - it's not going anywhere. I moved the fans that came with the case to the side openings, mounted the radiator+fans to the front, plugged everything into the RGB controller that came with the H170i, and removed the controller that came with the case. The only thing I had real trouble with, or didn't really work well, was fitting the 24V cable through the panel that hides the cables on a FULL SIZE ATX board like the ASRock Taichi Carrara. I picked up a right angle RGB adapter to make this work. I had issues with the cable management because how you remove some of the pieces aren't exactly clear, but once I got everything together, snugged up all the cables with the straps and the bar, it came together wonderfully. I absolutely hated working with this case, it was my least favorite build to date, but I love it now that it's put together.

I had a Fractal Design Meshify C for years. I replaced it because my i7 12700k (stock) would not go under 90C when running something like CinebenchR23 and my GPU (RTX 2070 Super) would not go under 80C when gaming. I had an 240mm radiator with two Noctua nf-a12x25 PWM fans, one more nf-a12x25 as a exhaust, and two 140mm Noctua fans as intake with the foam filter removed from the front panel. I replaced the case with this case and replaced the 240m radiator with a 360mm and used the fans that came with the new radiator. I reused my three nf-a12x25 as the side intake and my two 140mm fans as front intake. I removed both 120mm fans that came with the case. Yes, I don't have a rear exhaust fan in my 5000d. My CPU temps are now close to 80C in CinebenchR23 and my GPU is now under 70C when gaming. I'm just glad my computer runs a little bit quieter now and the top of top of the case isn't so hot I could just about fry an egg on it.

I have the 4000D and honestly? It's the best case for the price on the market at that price point, especially if you're like me and just have fans you can gut from a current system already. I don't really see the middling "only include 2 fans" thing as a huge issue, as you can either use what it came with to adequate performance for the average build, use a few additional matching Corsair fans to match (the supplied fans are pretty good as-is, just not *top of the line*), or like me, go ultra quiet with Be Quiet! fans and spend a bit more.
I was really happy with how easy it was to build in this, and I just love the PSU shroud and overall clean look to the build. The black one looks GREAT for blackout builds with minimal lighting, by the way.

[00:01] Yeah, Corsair's case design has been a rollercoaster ride for sure. It's good to hear that they've made some improvements with the 5000D, especially after the 4000D. The balance between aesthetics and performance can be a tricky one in case design.
[00:27] I'm curious to know more about the differences between the airflow and non-airflow versions of the 5000D. Did you notice significant temperature variations or other key distinctions between the two models?
[01:09] Also, the mention of Corsair's attention to detail is intriguing. Those small design touches can really make a difference in the overall user experience. Are there any other noteworthy details or features you'd like to highlight?
[02:17] It's a bit disappointing that the 5000D only comes with two fans at its price point. I agree with you; it seems like manufacturers should either provide no fans or an adequate number for the price. Did you consider adding more fans to see how it impacts the thermals, or do you think Corsair should have included them by default?
[03:56] The attention to detail you mentioned, like color-matched stickers and painted magnets on dust filters, shows that Corsair is putting thought into the user experience. Are there any other such details that caught your eye during your review?
[05:21] The cable bar and its impact on cable management is interesting. It sounds like it has both pros and cons, depending on the user's preferences and needs. Did you find it easy to work with, or did it present any significant challenges?
[06:59] The placement of the cable cover being magnetic while the side panel uses screws is an unusual choice. Did you find this design decision to be practical in daily use, or did it lead to any issues?
[08:08] It's good to hear that Corsair has improved the cable management options in the 5000D compared to the 4000D. More tie-down points and better cable routing can make a big difference in keeping the build clean. Did you find these improvements helpful during your testing?
[09:33] The issues with the hard drive cage and the thumb screw access are noteworthy. Did you find any workarounds for these challenges, or do they remain as potential drawbacks for users who need to install 3.5-inch drives?
[11:09] Radiator compatibility can be a crucial factor for many users. It's good to know that the 5000D has improved in this regard compared to the 4000D. Did you have a chance to test radiator performance and installation ease with this case?
[13:30] The information about individual components being listed as separate product SKUs on Corsair's website is intriguing. Do you think this could be indicative of Corsair offering customization options for the 5000D in the future?
[15:09] The thermal testing results are crucial for evaluating a case's performance. It's interesting to see how the 5000D compares to other cases on the market. Did you perform any additional tests or have any insights into how these thermal results translate into real-world usage?
[19:25] Noise levels are another important consideration, especially for users who prioritize a quieter system. It's good to see that Corsair included options for noise-normalized testing. Were there any surprises in terms of noise levels or fan performance during these tests?
Overall, your review provides a comprehensive overview of the Corsair 5000D, but I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on the differences between the airflow and non-airflow versions and any additional insights you might have regarding real-world performance and user experience.

Great video, as always. I looked at this case when recently shopping and ended up going with the Thermaltake View 51 Snow. The main reason is because the Corsair 5000 series cases have a basement, while the TT View 51 is designed more like the Lian Li O11 Dynamic cases with the dual chamber and things like a PSU and additional hard drives go in the back. Also, there is enough clearance to mount a 360mm x 60mm thick radiator in the rear chamber, behind the mounting area for the 3x 120mm side fans.

I love GN and I especially enjoy watching case reviews. Of particular value to me is the build notes. But almost every time, I find myself shouting at the screen when they come to thermal testing. What the F&%$ is the point of testing these cases with setups that NO ONE is EVER going to use them in?
I understand there's something to be said for a degree of scientific rigor when it comes to the kinds of testing GN does, but it helps me nor any other potential case buyer to know how a case performs with only the stock fans. We should be encouraging case manufacturers to sell cases with zero fans, anyway, since the ones they include are usually trash and add an unnecessary extra amount to the MSRP of the case, not to mention end up in the trash (I've only ever bought 3 computer cases and I've got a big box of stock case fans that have never been used). I don't know what percentage of case manufacturers care (or how much they do) about how their cases fare in GN reviews, but if they do, surely they're more likely to include a couple more stock fans, bumping up the price even more for no other reason. Not only that, but now you're even moving these useless stock fans around in the case trying to find the optimal arrangement when, and I repeat, NO ONE is EVER going to use the case like that. So you're essentially using your time to test cases in multiple configurations that provide virtually no useful information to consumers, other than the fact that they need to buy more fans... but we already know that.
Please, for the love of, at least add a "typical" or "ideal" fan setup. If you insist on doing the other tests for scientific completeness, then that's your business, but please add this one final test that would add more useful information that all the other thermal tests combined.

@Gamers Nexus I have appreciated your detailed reviews over the years and that helped inform me to choose the Silverstone RL06 case for my build, a couple years ago. I have noticed lately, that, pleasingly, more case manufacturers are releasing 'HAF' or atleast Mesh front intake filtered cases, rather than the earlier, unfortunate trend of blocked or largely blocked front panel intakes that restricted positive air pressure set-ups, significantly. But a new potential issue I see is with your charts: The amount of cases or more, their variants, means the comparative lists are full of a range of case types from HAF, front Mesh types to closed front panel cases or variants of those cases. Given the growing amount of cases on your charts I wonder: Could you have separate lists for HAF/Front Mesh Cases and 'the rest'? Would be neat to see a comparison of the HAF/Mesh front cases alone, apples-to-apples and if people wish to see comparisons with other case variants, they can see them on another chart? Maybe you could have a video sometime this year on the new 'High Airflow King' or something and include older cases like Silverstone's RL06 to see how they match up - stock, noise-normalised, Standardised Fans etc? There's getting so many of them now, could be interesting to see.

A 360mm AIO does fit in the 4000D. I got one installed in mine. Had to finagle it a little, but it doesn't affect the IO on top. It's a Corsair AIO, so maybe it was designed for that case, but I know a 360 does fit. Still glad to see that the 5000D makes it easier.

This is one of the most ridiculous reviews I’ve ever watched of any product. You’re testing it based on the fans it comes with and then saying thermals are bad? Who is buying a $150 case and then not putting shitloads of fans in it? You should have tested it with 10 fans in it and then see how well it performs.

I was looking for white pci slot covers. The only thing I found online was "iCUE 4000X/4000D/4000D Airflow Expansion Slot Covers, White" on the Corsair website.
    They looked pretty sweet.
Of course, they wouldn't ship to Australia, so I had some sent to a friend in the US.
He got them in the mail, and told me they were grey. I was all like 'what the hell'.
Sent a ticket to Corsair. They apologized and sent another set, this time to my billing address in Australia.
    They were also grey.
    I tweeted Corsair.
"The PCIe slot covers on the 4000X/D are grey, the don't come in white. Sorry if you've had some confusion on the item but when it says white, it denotes it's for the white 4000x"
It doesn't say that they are grey covers for a white case on the website. It doesn't have pictures of them in the case, contrasting their actual color against a white case. They just have a picture of them against a pure white background, which makes it impossible to determine what shade they are, which is, according to Corsair Support, my fault for being 'confused'.
They offered me a refund, but who cares? Its $4.99. I care more that the same thing could easily happen to other people, and they could fix it by adding a few lines of text and their own promo photos of the 4000 series to the webpage for this accessory. You shouldn't have to look up another product to get an accurate presentation of the product you are looking at, and you shouldn't be wasting people's time with your own support department not knowing what color your products are.
They haven't changed the page, and they've lost the faith of a customer that has previously spent hundreds of dollars on Corsair gear.

Gamers Nexus is one of the best PC parts review and pc hardware channels on youtube. Other channels like jayz2cents and Linus tech tips mostly these days seem to just be focused on making outrageous and goofy meme style video content. But Gamers Nexus content has been kept at a high standard towards the viewers and subscribers. These are actually well-researched and outlined product reviews. Keep up the good work guys. I always watch your videos when planning pc part purchases.

I regret getting rid of my Coolermaster HAF X, was such a good case for cooling. Miss the days of cases that are made for keeping hardware cool and not for show only. Now if we can get a new version of that it would be awesome.

Looks like a really good case for a higher end build when you can fully populate it with fans. Even the -X has very good temps with full fans.
Side mounting AIOs can be a problem though, have to make sure the tube length is long enough. My h150i capellix just barely reaches even with tubes up

Would you consider doing a review on the Corsair 200R? It is an older case, and outside of the price range you normally cover, but to this day its extremely popular. From what I could see, its even the most frequently reviewed case on PCPartPicker. I, and I'm sure many others, would be curious to hear your thoughts on it, and see more accurate measurements of how it stacks up compared to other popular cases.

BTW, the accessories that Steve mentioned as not having the option to order are, as of Dec 2023, have the option to order. Prices are quite reasonable. I had a Corsair Obsidian 350D a few years back that I really loved, and back then Corsair offered the option to order accessories and replacement parts. That case now houses my sister's computer. I plan to order this one mainly for the ability to easily access and clean the front air filter, a feature I loved on the Obsidian 350D.

I used a Corsair 5000D Airflow White case with my HEDT Workstation build. Intel Xeon W7-2495X, ASUS W790 ACE, 512GB DDR5-4800, RTX-3090. A nice case and it fit the CEB size motherboard after removing two internal panels. I also added four 120mm Noctua fans, two front two top. My only complaint with the case is that it vibrates with the fans, especially at high RPM when the system is under load, sometimes audibly annoying. If I slightly flex the case then I can stop the vibration. I still need to troubleshoot what exactly is vibrating. Maybe the magnetic cable cover, because pushing on the top and side panels has no effect.

Great review, thanks for sharing. Hope we see a evolution of the Air 540/740 into this new design of the 5000D/4000D, the 540/740 really need glass side panel instead of acrylic and this new style front and top panels that are much easier to remove and clean the filters.
