Love how Marshall is listening to their audience and making smaller amps. Very few people would ever need a 100 watt amp, let alone a 50 watter. It's great seeing these 20 watts beasts that you can scale down to 5
The JTM 45 doesn’t really need a 20 watt version, it’s only supposed to be 30-35 watts.
Unfortunately, these are still useless to me unless they got down to .1 watt, like the DSL-1.
I was still using 50w amps about 5 years ago, but now I use a 5w amp. Evolution.
def cool they're doing this, 100%, BUT.... nothing beats a 100 watt roaring amp lol. Nothing sounds better ! Still have yet to hear a modeler amp sound as good too : )
Killer amp! I can attest to this first hand. Great work, Marshall! 👏
I hope a review is forthcoming. Love your take on things!
@@electricurinal It's up already, and thanks! :)
@@inthebluesWould be awesome to see a comparison with the Origin!
@@intheblues Just checked it out! Great demo.... loving the sound of the amp. Right in my wheelhouse!
@@electricurinal Thanks mate!
This amp tempts me to finally get a Marshall. Tones as well as looks are right down my alley.
don't get a marshall, it will be the last amp you will ever buy.
To my ears there’s always been something magical about the JTM sound. On clean, they’re one of the best sounding Marshall amplifiers ever made. Probably because of their direct lineage from the Fender amps.
Cranked up they also sound amazing. Not like a Plexi, which sounds great but are heavy in the midranges. To my ears, a cranked JTM has a more scooped sound but is warm and full sounding with that Marshall punch.
Good work Marshall. Staying true to your core designs and not chucking out pedal amps and digital copies like some other companies. Can’t wait to try one of these out 👏
“The company” chucking out digital copies of their classic amps STILL makes the real tube (or should I say valve) versions of those same amps. There’s nothing at wrong with adding new options to attract new customers. That’s why they are one of the most successful companies in the industry.
you guys are doing absolutely amazing with this stuff.. Can’t even describe how happy i am that this range of amplifiers exist. You can finally get a classic Fender, Vox, and Marshall in a compact form. Unbelievable
Ive already put all my Fender stuff on Reverb, that Marshall is all I really need
Damn it Marshall!!! Stop taking all of my money HaHa. "Had" the entire studio series but, now I need this one. Great work guys. You've been absolutely delivering the goods with the Studio series. I love my old '73 hand wired JMP 1959, '71 hand wired JMP 1987, '77 & '79 JMP 2204"s Master Lead II, Silver Jubilee 2555 but, MAN these Studio amps just keep delivering and do exactly what I wish their bigger brethren could do in many lower volume settings!!! One could say you can't replace the big boys but I'd argue and say you can with these and still know you're not sacrificing just getting a different tool that fits particular applications even better. Cheers Marshall, your doing great things!
Awesome! Marshall for ever! Love the sound of this new JTM...
The Marshall clean is so real!!!!it's alive🎉 this is definitely my favorite of the studio 20 series!long live the Marshall JTM and Fender bassman
Really refreshing to see a brand new all valve amp from Marshall. I think a few of us were a bit worried.
Perfect amp, and 12" speaker in the combo too. I've been waiting for a smaller JTM for so long.
Picked up the combo and damn, I could not be happier about the sound. This amps has a clean tone that sings and just sounds thick and creamy. Takes pedals great and is an all around great amp.
Glad you're getting on well with it!
Sounds fantastic!!! Nice demo, Steve!!!
Bravo Guys 👏. This is the perfection we remember from the brand. Can't wait to hear it up close.
Sunshine tone 🌞 this is the best sounding amp I’ve heard for years
Awesome work Marshall! 12" speaker in the combo too.
Les Marshall ont toujours un son fantastique. Surtout pour le blues et le rock
うおー!カッコいい!
I love this amp sound & looks!!😊
Good Job Marshall. I really want to try one out. I love the aesthetics. It 's the sound I need to hear in person, but it sounds great over UA-cam. And super impressed it can be made in the UK at a good price.
Another Golden score 👏👏👏👏
@2.40 I Love that tone. Thanks fellas
Besides the demo and the nice tones, great playing !
I woke up this morning of my birthday and found the perfect gift for myself.
I turn 70 in October, I'm buying this amp for myself. I already have a DSL1CR, this will be a great addition to my small amp collection.
Thank you for putting the knob settings on screen
Simply amazing. Undoubtedly one of the best electric guitar amps all around. Sound is physical, it's the electrical parts and the speakers. Modelers or profilers may sound fine, are convenient for recording or portability, but will never deliver the sound and feeling of a true amp like the JTM. I'm getting one as soon as I can.
Bravo Marshall !!
incredible!
Finally!!! Great job M, I have to get the head and the 2 x 12. My handwired Bluesbreaker is so damn heavy to be lugging out 2 - 3 times a week to gigs just to have to use my powerstation to get the volume down, or use a Box of Rock for breakup. This thing will be perfect for my 50 year old back and Club/Bar stage Volumes. Time to start saving my pennies!!!
i'll take that HW Bluesbreaker off you.. 🤣
Yeah!!! I want this!!
Just WOW!!!! Great job Marshall! I can see this amp coming quickly to complement my SV20 to get a wet dry gig…
What an excellent player!!!!!!
Guys, you´re doing it right♥
Wow with the Les Paul you almost got the Rolling Stones sound with that combo.
I have the JTM45 RI head already, extremely tempted by the combo version.
It's basically a mini bluesbreaker.
Awesome ❤
He'll yeah! Marshall scores the late game touchdown!!
Can't believe another brilliant studio amp from Marshall is here again. They've been killing it lately with the studio series and the pedal reissues! Hope this will help keeping the spirit of rock'n'roll and blues alive 👍
Awesome
Marshall should make a Super Bass mini.
No.
And some Super Bass VST
Yes. A 67 black flag 50 watt bass.
Same as the lead basically. Lol.
Why??
This is cool and all, but Marshall is way overdue to replace the JVM as the flagship. As an owner of a 410H, there's so many upgrades it needs. Improved clean channel, noise gate, more transparent FX loop, real spring reverb (not that digital shite), cabinet IRs, etc.
Also, bring back the Vintage Modern!!
agree with the built in IR stuff, but it needs to be less complicated, not more. Might as well get a Revv if you want that. This is Marshall.
@@sumtingwong63186 my JVM has an XLR output with cabinet emulation. But it’s from 10+ years ago, which means it’s absolutely awful. I’m not saying they need 127 digital cabinets, I’m saying they need from 1 to 4, either analogue like Palmer, or IR like Mesa’s Cab Clone that now comes stock in the Mark 7. The original Cab Clone was a pile of shit, but the current version is usable. Marshall could come up with their own DI system, emulating the different 1960s, with T75, Greenback, or Vintage speakers. They’ve already made IRs for Two Notes, it’s just a matter of integrating them into a new amp.
@@gab.lab.martins definitely something that can be bypassed and allows for own IRs
@@sumtingwong63186 obviously. I just think the JVM is outdated. It was released 16 years ago, and so much new technology has been developed since then. I used the XLR output *once,* and hated the tone so much I never used it again.
Paul Gilbert will be delighted with this...maybe make a video of him demoing this amp.
The 45' was my first one. I wish I had it still. It was unique with 2 Mullard power tubes perhaps KT 66.
hello! this amp sounds great! Marshall sould make master volume version of this amp (and other plexi too)
Release the 50th anniversary 1 watt Amps. Something that actually is usable at home.
I just ordered a JTM45 a few weeks ago
Sweet
Always wanted Marshall to do a studio JTM and can just see this as a perfect gigging partner for the studio vintage. Shame it's not got KT66s in it.
I don't actually need another 2x12 creaback cab, but that slanted halfstack would look really nice on the other side of my living room.
marshall is doing a great job, reinterpretations of the old 20w valve amplifiers that have made the history of the brand and above all made in the uk, who would buy a chinese ferrari? thanks marshall ❤️ , soon i will decide whether to buy sv20h or st20h
Dear God it seems to be my dream amp 😭😭😭
Cool.
Jimi up in guitar heaven says to send him up a pair of these. And an angel tech to go with them, cos eventually, he'll blow one of them out.
Just got the combo JTM. Sounds great but it now has a annoying rattle when using pedals. It’s coming from the chassis in the small combo package. If I disconnect the speaker and plug into a different speaker cabinet there’s no rattle because the chassis are not impacted by the vibration first
I thought the tubes were microphonic not the case iWill be returning amp I may consider the head/Cab set up any thought on this would be appreciated
5:44 - 6:15 - 7:05 Warum ist denn die eingeblendete Amp-Einstellung seitenverkehrt?
Is this recorded in room, or Fed thru a board with compression?
What are those microphones used in this video, I wonder?
I have a question. In the 5 watt mode, Is possibile to do this amp at home?
OMG!!!
Direct outs in most amps get a pretty bad rap usually for good reason. Is the direct outs for recording into a daw inferior sounding and do the front panel knobs work that way?
I love the parts with the single coils. Humbucker sounds muddy to me.
Safe choice, but I'm excited to see what else comes out. What's left now to minimise, JVM? Speaking of which, I think a new modern flagship multichannel amp would be overdue soon, no? ;-)
My guess would be AFD studio...someday
@@buddehaole both that and the YJM would be pretty easy sells.
A reissue Offset JTM45 head and cab should be next, made with period-correct circuitry and not in limited edition.
So, no tube rectifier?
I was about to buy one, maybe three, but there is no Telecaster Demo.
They should have used KT66 tubes like the original ones. I wonder if you could get Beano tones out of this amp?
The original ones had 5881 tubes. KT66 came later.
@@bodhidharma2600 Clapton’s JTM 45 had KT66 tubes.
@@barkeater9606 he had a later one..
@@MSMWorkshop That’s the one everyone wants.
If you are looking for something to find inaccurate about the amp, then the lack of a tube rectifier is a bigger sin than tube types.... which early metal badge 45's did use 5881's.
Does it have solid state or valve rectifier? Cant find this info on official web site.
This range has solid state rectifiers 👍
Just wish there was some switching, like a jumpering switch etc, with foot control.
It's Alive °)!
Very cool, so.. JVM next?
MARSHALL, make an JMP and JTM circuits in one amplifier that can use 6CA7, EL34, 6550, KT66, etc that has an automatic biasing.
Where's the tube rectifier...?
I love and prefer the sound of the jtm but I like the plexi / script logo and looks better
Marshall should make a Time Machine so we can go back to when we could enjoy them as we’d like! 😂
Good move, Marshall!
Waiting for a 900 SL-X?
we need 5 watt version, for playing on my bedroom.
I'll buy it anyway even in an apartment, with a loadbox it should be fine
It has a 5 watt mode.
I would love to see an MG100hgfx solid state head re-release but without that cooling fan in the back. Or a solid state amp that focuses on their reverb. I freaking love their reverb.
Can these specific amps take KT66 tubes like old JTM45 amps?
No man, this is a 20W amp, a KT66 would be way too much for the OT
Yes! This amp is cathode biased, so you can swap out the 5881 tubes for most octal based tubes. Kt66's, EL34's, & 6L6's can all be swapped in and out of this JTM-20 ( along with all of the other Studio series amps) with no problems or need to re-bias.
Probably, the real question is will the big coke bottled KT66's physically fit.
@@germancarluv Johan Segeborn tried them in the SV20 head and they worked. To be fair he had the chassis out of the head shell. Maybe it would fit better in the combo.
Can I stack this head on top of a sc20 head or will that block the vent and cause the sc20 to overheat?
Hi, it would depend on the air flow and cooling - if both amps are running warm/hot, we wouldn't recommend it. The vents need enough cool air flow and stacking them might restrict this.
Lots of guys stack heads, and i havent heard of anyone having any issues. The best way is to run it on its own, check how hot it gets, and then stack it and see if it runs hotter. I would think its will be fine, though.
Thank you?
Have yet to see a single video where someone plugs directly into either of the low gain inputs
It looks beautiful. Too bad I already have an amp that does this sound
Is it hand wired, and is it old school or is it solid state ???
It's valve, not solid state & it's PCB construction. Marshall say the pots & valve bases are hand wired - but that's hand wired to PCBs.
How is this different than the SV20H? I thought that was a JTM45 no?
The Studio Vintage is based on the 1959 plexi line, rather than the JTM45. Generally the Studio JTM is warmer and less piercing, with less gain. You can hear the SV20H here - ua-cam.com/video/prjcyWrai1U/v-deo.html

What brand strat is that?
@@RiffMaster92 oh nice, thanks :)
Is this hand wired?
Cool, but it would be much more usable if they made a 1watt setting aswell, or even a dedicated 1watt head.
Just play it full watts and stick an Attenuator in between head and cab.
@the92project thats one way. Good attenuators arent cheap, though. And for the amount of people who use this at anything more than volume level 2, you might think they would at least include a master volume.
The 1-Watt JTM from the limited 50th anniversary line was pretty good. It is the rarest of that line to find these days (11 years later), if you find a used one it'll cost you around 1000 $/€/£.
How does this differ from the Origin 20? I love the JTM 45, but I already have an Origin 20 that I really enjoy.
It’s much "thicker sounding" with a much softer treble response. It’s also a little more touch sensitive too due to the nature of it being a non-master volume design.
@@marshallampsI've got the Origin 20 too and it's killer.
Sounds pretty close to me and the tilt control on the the Origin makes it rather versatile.
Would love to see a comparison!
@marshallamps Thanks, I will check it out, can't decide if I should sell the Origin 20 and get this or just have both?!? They are quite similar, but I love the JTM 45 tone!
Origin 20 is already really great. They need to sold and work.. but well, you already got the tone.
@tommyraper3895 I think this one will cost more than twice what you paid for your Origin 20.
Great sounding amp! I wish you would arrange a more competitive pricing arrangement for American consumers. That or give us more Vietnam made Marshalls! Maybe a Jubilee one? 😉😉
Save up and work for it.
@@dane4453 🤷♂️😄 that's not a very engaging response but I'll bite. If I'm saving $1800 for an amplifier, only giving me a 20 watt practice amp isn't much. My drummer is gonna bury that thing. I can get a Friedman Runt50 for the same price. I can get a Fender 59 Bassman Reissue for that price. It's not about not having the means or willingness to save up for a British made Marshall as an American consumer. I have a Wizard cab. I'm willing to pay for quality imported gear. It's that Marshall has priced themselves out of the American market. You can't even find any of the studio series amps to try out at my local Guitar Center, they don't carry what they can't sell. It's like three Origins and a DSL in there. Either embrace that and flood the American market with more Vietnam made Marshalls or break this weird third party distribution for America nonsense.
@@xxsouthxxsidexxroyxx I just took a quick look on Sweetwater and they have the Marshall studio heads and they are cheaper than the Mesa Badlander 25watt head... - just a quick example but based on that it doesn't look like the Marshall pricing is that far off the mark especially considering the Mesa is presumably made in the USA.
@dane4453 , Thank you! Exactly, .... so sick of these people that want top level amps to be $400 and hand made boutique pedals to be $79. Get a good job work hard and save up!
@@loulagro2315 now now no one is saying that that is quite presumptuous. I'm saying that if your 20 watt studio amp costs as much as a gig worthy FRIEDMAN RUNT 50...The Runt 50 wins everytime.
How much?
Dear Marshall,
Please bring back the Astoria
My favorite amp of all time is the JTM45 Offset reissue with the AlNiCo speakers. The standard JTM45 reissue had nowhere near the responsiveness and headroom. If this amp comes close to JTM45 Offset reissue's responsiveness, I will get one.
No tube rectifier 😒
Do some tone tutorial videos for this amp
Watch this space 👀
Like to see what’s inside these amps.
Worried there are full of cheap pcb boards and components.
They arent. Someome already showed whats inside
want.
my first amplifier was a 30 W solid state Marshall, 1987 and the Marshall vintage crunch sound really reminds me the late 60's and 70's
it was the 1 chanel time, before the multi-channel, the pedal collections, when musicaians had nothing to say but only searching "the sound" like Hendrix, like Page, Like Van Halen, like Slash...
a very noisy conception of the music...
so, what's the sense of this reedition ??
I really want the 20 watt head, and 2x12 cab....but the price difference between the UK and the US is very significant...for the 20 watt head, an extra $700.00 on top of a grand...pretty lame.
At least in Europe, the JTM 45 has KT66, not 5881 power tubes.
Sounds killer. I love you Marshall, but Dave Friedman woke up this morning probably chuckling at the price you're trying to get for this in the USA. I don't know what kind of crappy distribution deal you all have in the United States, but I hope this new ownership will one day address this. I'd bet these at $1500 would sell like crazy here. While I'm on the subject, have you all looked at some of your US Service Centers? Half of them are questionable people's houses who clearly have minimal knowledge of your amplifiers.
Love your amps. Love the spirit. Love the Company. Hate the neglect in the United States. I realize tons of US companies have to charge extra in the UK for their products. I think most reasonable consumers also realize that Marshall has expense getting this over the pond, but almost double is insanity.
Same can be said about Friedman in the Europe, his prices are quite laughable here.
@@Tanax13 Holy crap. I just looked this up and I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong. This crap has got to stop for all of us. I vote all guitar players for a globalized union and create the rule that it can't be more than 20% mark up to get it over the pond. 😆 Meanwhile, Orange and Laney are over here winking at me.
Yeah, I don't know what the deal is there, but it's not just shipping costs because we get pretty reasonable prices on Marshall here in Australia, and shipping must cost more to send it here than the US. I guess we should get a break considering the prices we pay on US gear.
@@BXGuitars Wholeheartedly agree :) We've got the short end of the stick for Friedmans, Soldanos, Mesas, every other US boutique amp makers (e.g. Wizards, Ceritone, Metropoulos, etc). Would be great if we could all get better and more fair prices!
I expect appropriate exchange rates and small mark ups for foreign amps would be reasonable to all consumers. But often due to the massive/competitive market in the US, $ pricing can sometimes match £ making it cheaper to buy in the US. So this new ST20 pricing in the US is very strange. Many of the Friedman amps aren’t so bad in the UK. SmallBox in UK £3000 and $3000 state side. It’s when the £ price goes above the $ number that it feels like UK import/retail is taking the piss.
