I’ve been feeling so out of it lately because i’m struggling intensely because of my mental illness which i’ve been recently diagnosed with but hearing you talk about art, music with so much passion & love is giving me hope again. To me, I always felt like in "Almost" he is still in love with his former gal, but he’s really trying to fall for the new one, but keeps comparing her to his ex.
    The same kind of music haunts her bedroom
    I'm almost me again, she's almost you
    I got some colour back, she thinks so, too
    I laugh like me again, she laughs like you
    She'll turn to me awake and ask, "Is everything alright?"
    I think it is also important to mention that during an interview he stated that the song could be summed up by the lyrics “I’m almost me again, she’s almost you”.

      Hozier couldn't get over his ex? Lucky gal but I think that lady wasn't accustomed to his musician lifestyle. Destiny will definitely introduce his better soulmate in right time😢😅.

    I found hozier very unexpectedly and like most of the people who adore him and his work, by the song called "Take me to Church" but ever since that day i have only loved and cherished him more and more. I was not in a very happy place when i listened to this album, which was in last march i guess, but i remember being completely tear apart and formed into something new when i listenened to it. The song "Nina cried power" was my absolute favorite and then, as it is with all of hozier songs, i fell in love with all of the album so much that it became very dear to me. I always urged my friends to listen to his music so that i could discuss or dissect it with them. When "Eat your young EP" [again in march, this seems to be a recurring theme] i was very stressed, but his music, his art helped me stay afloat. I am so glad, that i found somebody who really gets it, who really analyzes the themes he sings about. Who appreciates him as much as i do.

    I always interpreted Almost to be a sad song actually, so it's really interesting to see an interpretation that's so happy. I mean, of course it sounds happy on the surface, but I always interpreted that to be a deliberately misleading, in kind of a parallel to the song's meaning/lyrics.
    I thought it was about the loss of a relationship of some kind, with the speaker trying to distract themselves from being saddened by this huge loss or deliberately covering it up to whoever "you" is, begging his heart to not ruin happy moments for him by reminding him of that loss or pain. He's able to act almost like himself but he's still not being fully healed or back to where he was before. He doesn't know where to start explaining his pain, perhaps thinking that whoever he's addressing will be hurt by or won't understand why he's still upset or not right.

    • @sannalo11
      @sannalo11 6 місяців тому

      I agree. My visual is a party he's attending with his new love and runs into the lost love. Everything is bright, but he's coping with the memory he is always trying to push down. That line, "I'm almost me again, she's almost you," absolutely kills me, as does the line, "I laugh like me again, she laughs like you." I felt for the partner who is in love with someone capable of deep love but who views them as a fill-in for someone else.

    Be is one of my favorite songs from his entire discography, i know its somewhat nihilistic but it also feels so empowering! it feels like finding comfort and strength in that one constant in your life, despite knowing that everything else around you is crumbling.

    • @honorluca
      @honorluca  5 років тому +12

      There DEFINITELY is a big lack of female reviewers right now. It does seem like sometimes we aren't taken as seriously as male reviewers. There's kind of that "boys club" mentality. There are definitely some girls out there if you're into pop punk like Liz Rogers, but I've searched low and high for girls into the same music as me with no success, unfortunately!

    I really liked your interpretation of No Plan in this video. I think it definitely makes sense when I listen to the song with that context in mind. I did have a different interpretation of the song on my first listen though. When I was listening to it it really hit me as just him finding a relationship that's peaceful. There's no agenda, no goal, No Plan. You're just existing together and experiencing what life has to offer together. As long as you support each other and are there for each other there's no need to be worried or rush through things, you can just be.

    • @carolinavanderlande4904
      @carolinavanderlande4904 5 років тому +5

      I think your interpretation is not that different from the reviewer. In my view Hozier is talking about the absolute end of the universe when everything goes dark (“as Mack explained there will be darkness again”). He argues that this is just inevitable and there’s no plan for what happens before that and no kingdom to come, as religion makes you think. So enjoy live while you can and don’t feel restricted by all kinds of religious or cultural rules, just be you, live life in the here and now and don’t let anybody dictate how you should do it. “Be be be be be, be as you’ve always been...” (It’s another song, but the message is quite the same, I guess).

    • @GrayscaleRainbows
      @GrayscaleRainbows 5 років тому +2

      @@carolinavanderlande4904 Yea I see what you're saying, I feel like my interpretation is just a bit more inward-looking, like it's painting a picture of a moment in time during a really good comfortable relationship where her interpretation looks at the same core ideas just broadens a bit more to this more grand scale end of the universe story being told. Both definitely very valid looks at a very similar idea from the song for sure

    Very interesting review. I like your thoughtful interpretations a lot! I’m currently at a stage of exploring the album, but not too obessively, because I don’t want to overplay it. I noticed that, just like with his first album, I instantly like some songs and some others less. But that constantly changes. The “lesser” songs will grow on me and can even become new favourites. It’s kind of a journey that I don’t want to rush because who knows how long we’ll have to wait for the next release? Anyway, you gave me some food for thought for tomorrow morning when I drive to work listening to Wasteland, baby!

    Hi! I'm new to your channel and LOVED your review. Very insightful and sharp.
    Have a slight, perhaps pedantic, disagreement. I don't think 'No plan' is nihilistic. I feel its exactly the opposite. From my understanding, nihilism is about the meaninglessness of things because of our cosmic insignificance. No plan does exactly the opposite. It is almost a battle cry to construct meaning in our cosmically insignificant lives through love. Hence, 'I'll be your man, if you got love to get done'.
    Look forward to more excellent reviews!

    The cage for your own bird may just be how we talk down to ourselves and let all made up constructs confine us from our own personal freedom. 😊

    Do you have any idea how hozier will be a shriek to her sharp and glorious thorn? Is he willing to kill for her? Is it a metaphor for something I don't understand? Please tell me your point of view on this one 🤔😃

      I think what he could be implying is that he needs her love for survival, just as shrikes depend on the thorns to be able to feed.
