poor Raine losing all her art in one night..it truly hurts my heart. but i'm so glad that you get to show us your work on this album, it's breathtaking!
Seriously, that made me teary. Her life's work, gone just like that. It goes to show how fleeting it all can be, and how you cannot get too tied to things, no matter how personal they are. Sometimes you have to let them go, and start all over again. (Reminds me of a girl I met during college - her family lost their home in a fire, everything gone, all photos, all mementos, everything. And she had a remarkable attitude about it all, because at some point they just had to say, "It's gone, we can't get it back, no one was hurt, we still have each other, so we move forward with memories.")
Good god that loss would be such a blow. Even if you shake it off and move forward (because well, you're forced to) that's just entirely awful. I honestly can't get over her technique & skill; she's startlingly gifted. Bless you Raine, and I hope new paintings have brought you many new joys! x
@@studiocelestedesign I looked into her work and it speaks to my soul. I am so glad we get this glimpse into her absolute artistry and what created the Forest God we know as Hozier. Shes incredible, and you can see how her parenting has impacted him, amd by proxy, us. I hope by now shes been able to recover a bit from the loss, amd make new work.
As an oil painter I really admire his mum, not only does she have beautiful technique (the lighting, small details, realism, etc.) but she has a really admirable ability to portray things literally. She isn’t covering things in symbolism, instead she’s portraying them exactly and allowing that to be its own symbolism and meaning. She is a direct and beautiful artist. The fact she lost her works to fire is a tragedy indeed but I’m glad we still have more to see from her
“Flits between unbridled optimism and hopefulness, and then complete despair and nihilism, and then acceptance and just get the hell on with it to the end of the world” - no one has ever more accurately described my mood swings.
yeah, i love it, this 'darkness' is just so sexy, yet not creepy. I love that there is so much artwork around the whole album and there is a whole big concept around it, i bet there will be some music clips with this vibe too. So so different from stupid dancing video on the green-screen we normally see these days
Her artwork is utterly stunning! It’s such a shame that she lost so much in the fire, but it’s really inspiring that she’s continuing on despite the loss and creating such amazing beautiful pieces
also actually spat out my drink in the submerged under water theme part saying that yes some songs are romantic but the other part is about the sea levels are rising & we're going to drown what an amazing contrast
There are so many things I love about this, but Hozier putting his hand up when he wants to say something while his mum is talking is definitely my favourite
"We have to look out for each other. We have to stand up for each other. . .Sometimes you can't look away. You have to be a witness. You have responsibity to be a witness." My God. Where has this wise woman been all my life?
I love that his mum says that his music treats his audience with respect. And I think that's one thing I love about it - it isn't assuming that music has to just be entertaining - his music is enjoyable and entertaining while also being deep and intellectual and challenging.
"It kind of just looks at the great bonfire of our time, some songs kind of dance around the fire and have a bit of fun and some songs scream into it and some are in the center of it" I've never found an artist that gets me the way hozier does, brilliant
Raine is such a beautiful soul. Honestly I have so much respect for her. It breaks my heart that her art was destroyed. She is such a delight and I can definitely where Andrew gets his disposition and advocacy from. Amazing.
This is just amazing. I'm so glad both artists (as well as everyone involved with this) are getting the recognition and appreciation they deserve. Hozier, his mother, and their whole team work tremendously to produce wonderful pieces of art.
I love the way he laughs when he talks about being under the water too long and his mom goes “you were seeing stars?” And he goes “no you just go dark!”
Oh yes, this is a great video. Raine seems like an absolutely lovely woman, it's clear that Andrew was raised with good morals and I loved to "meet" her after all these years of looking at his album art and hear about what she keeps in mind while painting. It was such a pleasure to look at the art in greater detail too, it's impossible to see those little details in the little Spotify image! And as always Andrew is definitely the cutest and eloquent human being alive!!
Absolutely loved everything about this. The mother son bond of affection, and professionalism. Another pro artist saying that it IS a job and important work to be done All the aesthetics are...wow. The lurch in my heart for Raines studio, with 30 years of work poof, gone. I love the intellectual and emotionally charged lyrical stories he tells. I would LOVE to sit at tea with Raine for an afternoon!! such richly souled folk, sigh.
Mama Hozier is a really interesting and inspirational person, just as her son. As an artist myself a fire in my studio is one of my biggest fears. I can't imagine how much it must hurt to lose all your work over night.
Love, love, love this video! I absolutely adore hearing stories and knowing more details about the creative process - as an artist myself I crave this kind of content on a daily, really, so THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for filming and uploading it! Also tell your mum that she's adorable. I LOVE YOU RAINEEEE! I wish I could have a chance to talk about art with you, both of you actually 🖤
I never noticed the hidden images on Andrew's body in the painting!! Thank you so much to his amazingly talented mother for adding those beautiful hidden details!!
The meaning behind the album art is so beautiful. The way that they tie in all of these themes with not only the art but the music is absolutely stunning. I am honoured to be able to live in this era when Hozier is living.

I am so suprised not only by the fact that the cover is a painting (I thought it was hazy because of underwater photoshooting distortions), but because of the fact that Hozier's own mother made it! Truly an artistic family...
I'm so hype for this album. Its already so badass and it hasn't even dropped yet. It will be an experience. Also the fact that his parents are so involved in his creative process is so endearing.
One of my favorite things is listening to people, especially people with their own ideologies and philosophies. I love that his mom is so involved too. It’s refreshing
