Yup, Sam Riley sings all the parts in the entire movie and the actors who play Hooky, Bernard and Stephen aren't synching either. There's no lip-synching the entire film which is one of the reasons why it's so good. Because Sam sings almost exactly like Ian and the other actors play amazingly like Joy Division.
Man, I love the transition at 0:27, where it's just that gorgeous bass line, the drums and Ian's singing.
I love this movie. I saw it while flying over the South China Sea, towards Australia. Good times.:D
Sam Riley is great actor. It such a hard role to pull off when you only have performance videos, interviews and lectures to work with.
and even still there’s only like 5 actual visible performances by ian, and only audio interviews
I heard the actors learnt to play the instruments in a week... maybe the guitarist but theres no way that drummer is a begginer

Thats me directly in the middle of the screen at the 47 second mark, ive got the beard and long hair. I was an extra for 2 days in the gig scenes, see me quite often, it was an awesome experience!!
Man, on this scene, I think these guys actually revived Joy Division.
This is so real!! I feel like an 8th grader contemplating everything from why I am on this planet to world peace to the existence of an afterlife to a cure to my cow lick in my hair..all while listening to Joy Division and staring at the ceiling of my bedroom.
I want this song, he did amazing on this track. The riffs were so right.
probably my favourite scene in the movie. awe inspiring.
What makes this version so great is that it features more guitar, the song really sounds better with the extra layer.

Actually this is very similar to a live version you can find from the Unknown Pleasures 2 CD collectors edition thingy, disc 2.
I know its 'easy' for a drummer to play but not a beginner, I used to play drums, and probably still can reasonably well I doubt I could play this when i first started so well

What the drummer is playing is also easy. That were some basic rhythms. But still, I don't think they learned everything in just one week. It's a movie, I don't know how they did it but they found a way for sure.

Yeah, maybe he knew how to play before or maybe he was just acting. Doesn't matter that much, they found a way to do it cause it's a movie.

I consider myself quite a fan, reading biographies, owning posters, buying their entire discography etc.; and to be honest, I like this version better than Unknown Pleasure's studio version. Keep in mind the song was written by Curtis and his words can still hold to be beautiful regardless of who's interpreting them.

Hell ya! This performance is as good a Heath Ledger's Brokeback. He should have kicked a---. How much of the singing is really his? I like alot of the songs (Transmission) better, they're clearer,more raw. Lpve this kid! HE is one to watch.

@sparkyinbath How insulting! Sure, Sam Riley did a fine job....but nothing can replace the real thing. You need to watch the movie/documentary entitled "Joy Division" on Hulu.com. It might make you really "think" about what you wrote. Gee, your comment about the actors' versions of Joy Division's songs , " I prefer their version to Joy Division's" even made both my dogs puke a little in their mouths! I doubt you're a true Joy Division fan...truly doubtful.
really shitty movie lacking vision. it was like a fuckin episode of Corrie. This guy was a visonary but this movie was so dull and linear. Bring on Oliver Stone to make the real deal
