A personal friend of mine. Went to Mexico with him for some blues concerts ... sat on the plane next to him ... GENIUS. His funeral was heart-breaking.
This song is so classic and talented with that harmonica I felt like I'm right next to my paw paw listing to this song this is one of those songs u need to listen to while ur walking to work like in them old CLASSIC MOVIES Edit this is the most classic as it gets to flappers girls
@@atta1798 I met him many times. I would give him a ride home on occasion. He taught me by " cutting my head " many times over the years. I learned a lot from him.
Every morning i have been playing this song on harmonica. EASY! Was a joke, very difficult and impressive player for me. Thanks to him for had played this song and recorded it.
I will always listen to (My Uncles Music for as long as i live.Your niece Velveeta Horton.Love Always & Forever.Love Ya Uncle Walter. Bka (Big Shakey Horton)
This is the song I spent months and months learning. Of course never played sit like him but the riffs in this song became my go to riffs as a player. Got to meet BW in ‘74. Never forget that.
Fabulous. Tonality, rhythm, everything is right on the point. I'm sorry that this is the first time I've encountered his talent. It's a blessing this video carries his talent to another century/
Oh Yeah! That's how to play blues harp. One of the very greatest of the greats. If you're learning harp, listen and also watch how brilliantly Big Walter's hand movements change his tone and produce sound effects. Watch how he blows into the harp to play some of the highest notes and stay in key. What a magnificent player!
Yes!!! Very nice indeed!!! Who can say this is not Good.Nice beat, nice feel, great rhythm and great harmonica playing.Thank you for sharing this classic blues treasure and I'm glad to be apart of it!!! Nothing but the blues...R.I.P. Big Walter.
Fantastic and the bigest message that comes out of all Big Walters work is learn to find your own style of playing. For me that is what makes him a great player. This is wonderful thanks for upload
Dizzy Gillespie didn't pay attention to "Don't blow out your cheeks", either. Well, I'm glad that I have permission from those greats: after 6 decades of playing piano I can stop trying to sit still and move the freaking piano.
I just slowed this down to 0.5 playback speed it brings a whole new meaning to this here song slow it down and listen to it I dare y'all you going to fall in love with it The slowdown gives it one of those redlight juke-joint type feeling's
I can play a little like Big Walter joe and you will get closer if you use a Marine Band harp. They have that certain tone that he had because they are what he played.Jim.Liverpool.
The good old country folks U know us southern folks ride our old trucks and listen to this classic while riding on country roads them old hick Towns up in west Texas the most southern as it gets back when talent was good And brought to ur 1972 Ford 150 pickup just like the country folks did state troopers where as southern as it get sweet tea and holding shotgun shoot pesi cans watching nascar AND DRINKING BEER
Big Walter is my favorite harp player of all time. He had his own signature sound... he didn't sound like Little Walter or either of the Sonny Boy Willliamsons. Other players of his era, be it SBW 2, Little Walter, Junior Wells, or James Cotton, still had elements of SBW1 in their playing. Not so with Walter Horton. Horton had that soft fade out at the of his lines that made his playing instantly recognizable. His work with Elmore James and John Lee Hooker was amazing. He's kinda the Robert Junior Lockwood of the blues harp. Listen to his work behind Hooker on "Boom Boom" from the first Blues Brothers movie. Three notes, and you know it's Walter Horton.
@@paulnebenzahl702 I've been loading many of my (Dear Mom's, RIP) massive boxes of blues CD's into the computer for back up and came across the 20th Anniversary Collection on The Alligator Records, I became curious about Big Walter Horton and found this Video! BLOWN AWAY by this dude! PHEW!!!! Just wanted to say that the end of your comments about visiting him (the part about the CATS) hit my FUNNY BONE and I laughed uncontrollably for 5 mins! 8-)))))))
love the song but too long to remember, but had anyone noticed how he begins by walking out from a scrapyard, if my alarm was set to this song i'd stay in bed

UN GENIO, ADELANTADO A AQUELLOS TIEMPOS
Terribleeeeeee
Every harmonica lesson ever. "Move the harmonica, never your head." Then you find out one of the best never listened to that rule.
You'll find the real correct technique is the one that works for you. Whodathunk that music was more art than science, eh?
I just found that out and it's very interesting
Dizzy Gillespie didn't pay attention to "Don't blow out your cheeks", either. Well, I'm glad that I have permission from those greats: after 6 decades of playing piano I can stop trying to sit still and move the freaking piano.

Funny, I've always heard to never move the harp, move your head.
It's just Gold to be able to see this Master making the sounds. So effortless I love it So Much and I keep coming back to it again & again :)

On which songs did he work with Elmore?
Inn that movie hes not playing cause he had some work done in his teeth
I was on the road with Big Walter for a year. Quite a gentleman, I visited him at his home in Chicago. The man liked cats, they were everywhere.
