Is it good enough for metal? I can't get a clean sound going for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
be eco friendly and buy a plugin? no?
The bass one as well. IMO.
This could have been a great practice tool. But it’s missing a few key things
And what ewaste behemoth's device are yoy typing this comment on?@@lifechugs1101
read manual. There is some things in it about how make get propper setting of it, bc some of them (like pressence) are kinda hidden
Line 6 has led to great albums including deftone albums not really sure if clean tones is their special but pure sonic bliss 😜🤘
Ola the unit has 4 volume controls.
ALT+DIST = Channel Gain
ALT+AMP = Preset Volume
ALT+TAP+Delay = Poweramp Volume
Side Volume = Output Volume.
The red finish with gold hardware is beautiful
And that subtle black inlay at the 12th fret 🤘
Absolutely GORGEOUS guitar!
🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
The lack of a software editor is a big plus for me. I don’t like having to plug things into a computer to access features. I like the feeling that I have a complete unit in front of me. I totally get why a lot of people feel differently though.
The cleans distorting does seem like an odd problem though. I know the IRs can be turned off, so you’d be able to run it into something like the boss IR or into your DAW and use the IRs there.
I actually like the lack of software and simple UX. I love having the physical thing rather than sitting infront of my keyboard and clicking endlessly. True plug and play.
kinda a toy store type of effect...or something you might find on temu for 5 dollars
@@jacksybicki7330 Yeah i don't love the design of it, but it's passable.,
@6:40 there are only 7 built in presets all in the white bank the other 14 slots in the yellow and purple banks are left blank for you to program in your own custom presets, and of course you can also overwrite the 7 presets in the first (white) bank if you want to , i know because it kinda freaked me out at first because all the reviews said there are 21 preset slots , but neglected to tell you that 14 of those are deliberately left blank , i had to actually read the user manual (something i almost never resort to haha) to find out this is how its supposed to be
Those dual-function pots always drive me mad. The one good thing about a potentiometer is that you know what the setting is just by looking at it. But when it just writes a value into memory while you turn the dial, the actual setting becomes much harder to gauge (once you have done an adujstment of the alt setting). Therefore in a multi-mode layout like this is, I much prefer a small display+an infintiely turning encoder wheel.
I LOVE the fact there's no editor!!! ALl right there. The Line 6 IR's have also come a long way.
Love your channel and playing Ola! Thanks for showing us this one.
Cheers for checkin this out Ola and all your work, your a legend mate
quite sure he kept his cool and didnt stop it from falling into a trash can
There's another volume control called something like preset volume. You hold the tap and alt button then dial the delay knob to adjust it. You can do the same with the reverb knob to adjust amp presence.
It’s the amp encoder knob in the middle that you turn while holding alt and tap to change preset volume.
There are a whole bunch of alternative settings like presence and noise gates that you can control this way with the other knobs
@@leestanford2452 Page 19 of the manual says it's the delay knob plus alt and tap.
I had the Boss Ir-2 too, but I like the metal sounds of the Line 6 better and it is better suited as an all-in-one solution with a foot switch. I play it for practicing on an Everse 8 speaker and for mini rehearsals
For the pricepoint and mobility, also, it’s super light and runs on AAA.. it’s a great practice/bedroom platform. You can add an ext foot switch to control del/mod/verb. It’s pretty flexible for its stock amps&effects
actually the fact that you tried different guitars was really helpfull, i own only high output pickups guitars and that makes me think twice
yeah he proved it has a place in a dumpster
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL guitar, Ola! I love the red quilt top!
You can change cab models as well by holding Alt + TAP +turning the amp model knob. I would go back and try adjusting the Master Volume (Alt + TAP + Delay knob) to get a better output without clipping. Theres even adjustments for the noisegate threshold and decay, and presence, all by using different buttons. Once you get the hang of it its super easy to dial in and allows you to get much better tones fairly quickly.
I think the reason you weren't getting a clean tone is because you had the overdrive on. The DIST knob has to be turned all the way off to disengage the overdrives completely. And once you were on the "SPECIAL" amp setting, which is more of a "Dumble" style amp, which are almost always used for "edge of breakup sounds." Stick to the CLEAN amp with DIST all the way off, and I think you will get a decent clean tone. BTW, I have a POD Express and love it. I've recorded the guitars for my last 6 or 7 videos using it exclusively.
That guitar is stunning.
I have a similar problem using the UA Max pedal with Fishman Fluance pickups and the cleans being distorted, but switch to a guitar with passive pickups it’s ok.
Always enjoy your review brother 😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
Sounds really good. These young kids need to go back and find a Pod Bean, Johnson J Station, or a Zoom 505 to really appreciate what is available these days.
Great playing! I got the POD Express after owning several Helix products. I actually like the lack of editing it's just plug and play. I bought it for the crunch channel really and it's solid straight into the DAW. For $179 it's worth it.
The crunch channel (Friedman based) sounds awesome for sure!
Yeah I'd say the same thing if I paid for it too. Thank God I didn't pay for it.
Question... what tuning do you use for your guitars and do you keep the same one for each Ola Tests video?
Watching you switch between several guitars within a couple minutes makes me want a new collection video! Like maybe one or two minute clips of everything you have hung on the walls behind you or something
Intro riffing went hard 💪🏼☠️
That intro tone was nice!!!!!
The idea of this unit is to Plug and Play and most important to use your ears! many time we so much base our desicions on what we see on a screen, and thats a big mistake
Sounds like something Glen from Spectre Sound Studio would say.
Real
@@Maykholiv That’s a good thing.
@@RichardGarcia93Not really
Plug and play, minimal tweaking, good tone and at a GREAT price @ $179. 👌
What's not to like?
There's a reason these things have sold out already and retailers are waiting to restock. They are incredible bang for the buck little units.
I've ordered one and am waiting on mine to arrive. 🤠👍
I'll pair this with a TC Electronic Nova System and dual footswitch that I can mount onto a mini pedalboard. Throw the pedalboard in a backpack and go jam anywhere.
My Kemper Rack & Profiler Remote will go outside when it's time for heavy lifting 😏 (pun intended)
Cool! Man red guitars with golden floyds! Golden hardware with red guitars is very cool! Nice tone!
You can get clean sound you just have to turn the drive down on the amp model and the drive pedal effect.
Pretty simple .
But it's good to see Ola
Is R worded.
Hmm, I haven't had any trouble with the clean tones with mine, and my guitar has SD Black Winters in it. After adjusting the gain and amp volume, did you try adjusting the master volume on the side of the unit?
Maybe his signal was clipping due to to much volume and not enough headroom or he finally had a bad cable.
I'm playing through mine with Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient and don't seem to be having the same issue.
Thanks Ola 🎉🎉🎉
Sounds pretty damned good from the opening tbh
that song/mix is DOOOOOPPPEEEEEEEE man!
🔥
0:08 that became my new ringtone
People still use custom ringtones?
@@thisguy2973- Yeah. Mine is Greenhill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog.
❤Спасибо за ваши обзоры 🔥
This is actually a good, honest review (all of Ola’s are 👍), because it points-up a couple of deficiencies: To me, that’s a serious problem not to be able to start from Clean and then dial in as much dirt as you want / need (it’s like having an assault rifle with no single-shot selection possible), and the control-arrangement seems quite cumbersome, versus most other multi-effects units I’ve seen.
That being said, it gets some really nice tones (especially the chorus / flanger stuff), but you just have to remember that you’re locked-into at least *some* dirt.
I guess for some people that’s OK, depending on your style.
A pleasant surprise was the “early”, basic distortion - that sounds like what people were getting into back in the ‘50s with relatively low-powered, small amps - would be good for rock-a-billy 😎👍🤠🎸!
finally the review i was waiting for
Really doing your due diligence on this one
I'm looking for some multi-fx pedal to pair with my tonex. Any ideas ? Good if it's inexpensive :)
Ola, it's the same on the bass express with the cleans and active bass still distortion with non active bass. There is a switch on the inside that changes something couldn't find info on switch...
most times i dont read manuals with the pod express i HIGHLY recommend reading the manual which can be found free online by just doing a google search for Pod Express User Manual , on Page 19 you'll see *Editing Amp Paramaters*
To access any of the above amp parameters, hold the ALT
button while turning its respective Effects knob or AMP
encoder.
As you adjust the knob, you'll see the LED ring segments light up bright
red in clockwise fashion, with no LED segments lit to indicate the minimum
value and up to all seven segments lit brightly to indicate the maximum
value for the parameter.
For example, holding ALT while adjusting the GAIN (DIST) knob to
approximately 50% results in about half of the LED ring segments lighting,
clockwise from minimum, as shown in the following illustration.
Will you test ampworx Tc Electronic hi-gain series?
Great song man!
Here's my question. You've selected an amp. You've adjusted the bass, treble gain and mid settings to your liking. You then change the amp. Do those bass, treble gain and mid settings you made carry over to the "new" amp you've selected or do you have to go through bass, treble gain and mid settings all over again for that amp?
Hey Ola always enjoy your channel question I record my own music and want a small multi effects pedal that has everything from nice clean with delays to an awesome in your face chug monster distortions. Any suggestions? Thx Ola 🤘🏻🎸
I still have that first pod !
S by Solar desperately needs a five-string bass and at least a couple more finish options. Yellow please!
The way the clean works is similar to the way a Fender Deluxe works.. If you up the gain you get more volume without much more (if any more) break up...
A little nostalgia when thinking about the original POD.
I hope the cabs on the Express are using the updated 3.50 cab update for helix!
I have a similar issue with my Catalyst 100 (it likely uses the exact same technology as this pedal as they have nearly identical features) - I cannot for the life of me get a good clean tone with humbuckers. I have this beautiful 05 Epi Dot that I have to crank my volume way down to not distort
Coffee with Jesper S.
Try using the channel volume, you can get a clean tone
I like this pedal as I am not a fan of having to hook my pedals or amps up to my computer to dial things in I am old school turn the knobs on the pedal or amp guy lol!
awesome guitar
🤘😬🤘
It's a fickle thing. I found that I get the best results using the headphone output with a 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TS mono into my interface. The stereo 1/4" outs were giving me issues. It's fun for practice or for sketching songs I guess but Line 6 could have done better. They rushed it out to compete with the IR-2. That's the whole reason I got mine just because it was available when BOSS's IR-2 still has a wait time. I just wanted something to get a few usable tones with while I program drums so I can conserve memory.
Ola. Tune that beast. All of those beasties... Like three in a row.
Dude, your chops are incredible. Will you ever be touring the UK? Specifically Wales? :)
Umm, how about New Zealand?
Same like Line 6 POD Bean and just update to POD Express
I have the same problem with my pod go, everytime i plug a guitar with humbuckers its hard to get a clean tone
The solution was to activate the pad function to reduce the input gain, I don't know if there is this option in the pod express
That Solar is mental 😂 pedal sounds cool too
i hate that there hasnt been a new format for effects. the first ones had the footswitch and 1-2 knobs you set and forget. now we have these super complex ground pedals be it a helix, quad cortex or even this pod noone could possibly operate with their feet alone. this line 6 even has a shift button you need 2 hands for. having to hunch over constanly when experimenting kills my back.
but the alternative would be having a music stand on stage but that doesnt look right.
Ola, What’s your go to amp?
WOW! a non-sponsirized guitar gear video on yt!? And with an realistic opinion ?? Legend
⭐⭐⭐show olá englund⭐⭐⭐🇧🇷
Just saw Andertons video - Danish Pete plays it clean - without the preamp turned up at all!
BUT he was using a single coil pickup guitar. As I mentioned would work in this video.
@@OlaEnglund He still had output with the preamp all the way down, you didn't (as I remember) so might be a setting!? (don't think its because of pickups, thats too weird I think,,,
That clean time issue is a huge one... What in the world
You probably had some boost/od on on the preset without realising, since the knob is used for multiple things
Sweet ass axe 🎸 ❤
you should replicate bolt thrower tone
Yessss
Grandpa trick... In these cases on distorted cleans... you need an EMG Afterburner. You put your guitar volume at very low to rid the input gain then you increase the output from the Afterburner. That raises the volume of the no gain clean. It really works.
I had the OG pod and hated that thing but this looks/seems awesosm
when Ola plays it , its the Line666 Pod Express! 🤘🔥🎸
Awesome demo Ola, for the clipping you can always try putting a Behringer Direct Inject box in between your guitar and the pod.
Ola have you already listened to the new Old skool DeathMetal band Deliberalize?
This is an almost exact copy of Death. Check it out if you haven't
Ola for your ola learns series please try to learn themata by Karnivool. Please please please.
Hello Ola !
Is it just me or that thing sounds brutal?! 😲
Your tone is so vocal UA-cam closed captions transcribed :40 as 'Oh Oh'.
Hey Ola, I remember you sharing that you had a job as selling high end acoustic guitars at some point, I'd like to know what riffs or songs you use when you demo the guitars? Thanks. I haven't been playing acoustic too long and would like to learn something new.
Tight like a tiger
Smoke and a pancake?
Pipe and a crepe? No? Bong and a blintz?
Flapjack and a cigarette? 😂
I can see there is no pleasing you! 😂
Love that playing brutha! 😎
"brutta" in Swedish is slang for female.
@@stofosaurus it’s slang for brother here. Plus it’s still spelled different than “brutta”. So not the same with all do respect. 👍
Would have been cooler if it had some line 6 modelled real amps instead of their own sounds, also the fact that you can't download your own impulse responses makes me lean more towards getting the ir-2 since i've been considering getting a smaller modeller pedal.
I am so old I remember lines 1-5
I didn't get a really clean sound with the Fishmans either
Well he tried passives too and it did the same thing
You hear that Positive Grid...a modeler with bluetooth capabilities
Thank you Ola, good job. that is not the unit for me
Ola does the best demos. Quickly twists knobs. This is too complicated for me.
Oh c'mooooon dude... we're in 2024 now 😅 We should have lightsaber guitars with presets integrated! lol. I'm just a fussy kid.
Way to go line 6
Sounds great to me. Always been a Line 6 fan.
It sounded dope as first and then the more he turned that knob the shitier it got
Ola vs Line 6 round one, fight!
It's bass pedal?
I think it sounds pretty cool....🤨
Did Ola always play his guitar, up his arm pit?
