I bought mine about a year and a half ago at Home Depot. It only had a few leaves when purchased but it's over a foot tall now. It's in the patio garden and I think it really likes the Mexican sun here.
I had just purchased one 2 days ago and have it in an orange-toned terra cotta pot. The combination is beautiful. A blue or teal pot would add a nice contrast. Thank you so much for the info. I find conflicting advice so often online and you're a reliable source.
mines is almost 1 meter tall, i have it in a big ceramic pot, morning indirect sun, water once every 7 days, and i have it since it was like 10 cm tall, owned for 4 years now. i think if you repot it it will grow larger and faster.
I just bought the Kalanchoe Hildebrandtii (Silver Teaspoons), and I assume the care is the same. Thank you for this series; you've covered pretty much all the plants I own!😊
It’s surprising how tolerant of low temperatures many species from Madagascar are, given that even at the higher elevations on the island, it doesn’t get very cold. Folks in SoCal grow a number of Malagasy plants outdoors year round where they are exposed to near freezing nights. My garden experienced low 30’s f. , 1 or 2 Celsius , three times last winter, with no damage to Kalanchoe o., or any of the many frost sensitive species that I grow. Kalanchoe o. is available in nurseries here as 3 foot tall shrubs.
My mom let me take care of her cause her apartment dosent get enough sun. Ppl give me plants to heal and when they have better condition for the plants I give them back. So my friends and family call my place the plant hospital haha
I put mine outdoors essentially after the threat of frost until the threat of 1st frost... gradually moving it from just morning sun to full sun in just two weeks... the orange fuzz seems to act as a sunscreen and the leaves don’t burn. Outdoor light for as long as possible all summer triggers a huge push for growth, watering when the soil dries out (almost every other day!)
Love the color of this plant. I started looking around for it with no luck. Does anyone have a favorite plant boutique or nursery where I can find one?
Oh my, I seriously never saw this plant before yesterday. I saw a few plants beside the door of an Orscheln farm supply store on hot asphalt, bravely sweltering away in a metal pan, yet !. Coppery, spoon shaped leaves above grey silver leaves caught my attention. The sign begged "We refused to die,Take us Home ,1.00. @". My friend got one, said "What the heck is this ?" I couldn't say much, except my mom had a Kalanchoe Jean years ago. This plant is hanging out with my 50 year old potted tall sedum, and other succulents, a purple Frog's Tummy and a beautifully cascading bluish sedum that reminds me of Whoopie Goldberg's hair !. Did you ever find one ?.
Hii, I have a question.. I have had this type of plant for a year now and I think it’s pretty big (about 25 cm high).. but now I have a problem because it’s lower leaves are down, like they are direct to the ground... do you know why? I’m vary worried because I love this plant and I don’t want it to die
I just got this plant 2 weeks ago ago and i have it under grow light. I have only water it once thoroughly but didn’t let it sit in the water. The leave has become pretty soft and i dont know why. I need help!
It's so slow growing because of the container it is in. It is very deep, and the roots would take a long time to fill it up. Plants don't grow that much until this happens.
I don't think it's a slow grower, I've propagated plenty of them and it doesn't take long to bush out, I think it's your tin because it doesn't look happy
I bought one of these recently without knowing what it was first. And i realized the redness on the leaves can be wiped off to reveal plain green leaves underneath... Did i just hurt my plant by wiping off something it had produced? I thought it was dirt or pestiferous insects... Oops

Among all the plants in the store this vintage looking beauty stood out

I live in Southern California. My Orgyalis grows about a foot a year and it is in full sun.
Is it possible this has root mealybug causing the slow growth? That's abnormally slow for 6 years growth even from a leaf cutting I think.

I want all the kalanchoe plants!
I have these but dont show such strong colours until winters. Mine has grown around 18 inches in last 2 years
Do these stay copper with less light? Also I’ve had mine for about three months and it hasn’t changed one leaf. No growth. Why?
Nice
