I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the 837 day of the war.
    Day 837: Jun 09
Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.
The most interesting updates come from the area of Chasiv Yar. Here, Ukrainians repelled a series of Russian assaults thanks to the prior efforts of special operations forces like the Kraken Regiment. Following this, they immediately utilized fighters from the International Legion resulting in a series of successful counterattacks.
The International Legion comprises former soldiers from Western countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, as well as many volunteers from other NATO armies. Many of these fighters bring extensive combat experience from various global conflicts, blending advanced combat skills and tactical knowledge. This expertise is invaluable in dynamic frontline areas like Chasiv Yar. The diverse array of skills and experiences makes the International Legion one of the most effective units in the Ukrainian army.
Furthermore, foreign fighters bring extensive knowledge of specialized skills such as close-quarters combat, reconnaissance, sabotage, covert missions, and special operations. These unique capabilities complement the existing strengths of Ukrainian forces, providing them with a significant advantage over the Russians. Additionally, foreign fighters have access to advanced equipment and supplies, including aid from the US, which they can utilize effectively thanks to their expertise and training. Meanwhile, Russian units in the area are at a disadvantage against these highly skilled and well-equipped foreign fighters.
Most Russian detachments in this area consist of poorly trained mobilized personnel or convicts. These troops lack previous combat experience and are generally unfamiliar with their combat tasks. Low-quality units, such as the Storm-Z detachments, are used to wear down Ukrainian defenses ahead of assaults by regular airborne units.
In one such video, a Russian soldier is seen striking his rifle with an axe while a loaded magazine is attached. The soldier is completely unaware of how to aim properly and ends up damaging the rifle, rendering it incapable of accurate shooting. This incident highlights the severe lack of training and situational awareness among Russian stormtroopers. If you want to access the original combat footage, you can find it on our Telegram channel by using the link in the description.
In recently published combat footage shared by fighters of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, operations on the northern outskirts of the town's Kanal district are depicted. The video shows a small squad of four foreign fighters disembarking from an armored vehicle, fully equipped, and advancing to assault their target.
Afterward, they find cover near the rubble of surrounding buildings and locate a hideout with entrenched Russian soldiers in one of the houses on the outskirts. One of the fighters uses an AT-Four rocket launcher to fire at the house, immediately following up with dense small-arms fire to suppress the Russian forces. Meanwhile, the other fighters carefully advance toward the house. Upon reaching it, they further suppress the Russians on the upper floor with small-arms fire before ensuring their elimination with hand grenades.
After securing the house, the foreign fighters move forward, coordinating with each other to conduct the operation carefully. They discover another Russian firing position, which they neutralize with hand grenades. At the end of the operation, only one Russian soldier fires back at them from the last house they cleared, but he is swiftly eliminated with hand grenades and small-arms fire. Ultimately, the foreign fighters successfully cleared and secured positions on the northern outskirts of Chasiv Yar.
The Foreign Legion's key advantage lies in their proficiency in communication and coordination at the small unit level. NATO armies prioritize the autonomy of small units, a principle that former troops, now foreign fighters, are accustomed to. Consequently, they seamlessly apply their warfare tactics to their assaults.
On the contrary, Russian units frequently suffer from coordination deficiencies, resulting in significant failures. In a notable incident captured on video, a Russian armored transport, the MT-LB...

@@stephenoneill245 Context for your comment 👍
When a band of soldiers holds out against a larger force - no matter the colour of their uniform - they might be referred to as a thin red line. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the term originated in a battle involving the British redcoats. During the Crimean War, the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment stood against the Russian cavalry at the battle of Balaklava on 25 October 1854.
Their commander Colin Campbell, 1st Baron Clyde, had told them, “There is no retreat from here, men. You must die where you stand.” And stand they did. Their line, two deep rather than the usual four, drove off the cavalry within minutes. Watching the action was a correspondent for The Times, William H Russell, who described the Highlanders as a “thin red streak, tipped with a line of steel”. Slightly altered the appellation is often used since to denote a long odds, 'last stand' scenario.

Canada has the third largest after Ukraine and Russia. Canada originally was so vast with a sparse population and needed farmers, in order to encourage Europeans to immigrate Canada offered free land to farm and I believe free passage. There was sporadic immigration of Ukrainians to Canada as early as 1812, they then came in large waves and settled in the western provinces to farm. First wave of Ukrainian settlers was 1891-1914 and ended with WW1; the second wave 1923-1939 ended with WW2. The third wave 1945-1980, many Ukrainians were able to visit relatives in Canada, where some of them declared themselves refugees and stayed as residents. They mainly settled in the big cities of Eastern Canada, in Toronto and Montreal, where they worked mainly in large factories and plants. The fourth wave 1991-2011 (most of them had a higher education or a technical specialty, spoke English well, which made it possible for them to find jobs in Canada). The fifth wave 2014-2018: (Young Professionals in a Globalized World. The sixth wave 2022: War Immigration mainly women, children and elderly. Ukrainians living in Canada volunteered for WW1 (over 10,000 Ukrainians enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces) and for WW2 (over 35,000 Canadians of Ukrainian descent served in the Canadian military during WWII). Ukrainians contributed to the building and settlement of Canada and to what it is today. Which is why Canadians have had the pleasure of eating traditional Ukrainian food, especially at Ukrainian weddings.

The western governments are unlikely to send foreign fighters piecemeal like that. Although societies can take insane losses, 1million casualties out of 20-40million population and they still continue after war to rebuild in past european wars. Same happened in Syria, Lebanon, Libya.... first ones to leave are doctors,lawers,engineers,teachers... anyone with skilled job.... rest are unemployed low skill, manufacturing, "cannon fodder" with not much more than AK in hand. Although 80% can be that low skill people, economy suffers way way more in longterm loosing that more skilled group. Not just economy but also manufacturing... cant remember how this effect was but it degrades also military equipment manufacturing loosing everyone who know anything from those factories. Banks and government are last to fall but those people dont matter in wartime economy as much.

Following on from this is about April 2022, Russia launched a recruitment of their own to try and get foreign fighters of which they were able to scrape together some 800 Syrians, Libyans and other nationalities. Since then, the Russian army has managed to convince enough people to join so as to help continue the war in Ukraine.
