I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the 837 day of the war.
Day 837: Jun 09
Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.
The most interesting updates come from the area of Chasiv Yar. Here, Ukrainians repelled a series of Russian assaults thanks to the prior efforts of special operations forces like the Kraken Regiment. Following this, they immediately utilized fighters from the International Legion resulting in a series of successful counterattacks.
The International Legion comprises former soldiers from Western countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, as well as many volunteers from other NATO armies. Many of these fighters bring extensive combat experience from various global conflicts, blending advanced combat skills and tactical knowledge. This expertise is invaluable in dynamic frontline areas like Chasiv Yar. The diverse array of skills and experiences makes the International Legion one of the most effective units in the Ukrainian army.
Furthermore, foreign fighters bring extensive knowledge of specialized skills such as close-quarters combat, reconnaissance, sabotage, covert missions, and special operations. These unique capabilities complement the existing strengths of Ukrainian forces, providing them with a significant advantage over the Russians. Additionally, foreign fighters have access to advanced equipment and supplies, including aid from the US, which they can utilize effectively thanks to their expertise and training. Meanwhile, Russian units in the area are at a disadvantage against these highly skilled and well-equipped foreign fighters.
Most Russian detachments in this area consist of poorly trained mobilized personnel or convicts. These troops lack previous combat experience and are generally unfamiliar with their combat tasks. Low-quality units, such as the Storm-Z detachments, are used to wear down Ukrainian defenses ahead of assaults by regular airborne units.
In one such video, a Russian soldier is seen striking his rifle with an axe while a loaded magazine is attached. The soldier is completely unaware of how to aim properly and ends up damaging the rifle, rendering it incapable of accurate shooting. This incident highlights the severe lack of training and situational awareness among Russian stormtroopers. If you want to access the original combat footage, you can find it on our Telegram channel by using the link in the description.
In recently published combat footage shared by fighters of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, operations on the northern outskirts of the town's Kanal district are depicted. The video shows a small squad of four foreign fighters disembarking from an armored vehicle, fully equipped, and advancing to assault their target.
Afterward, they find cover near the rubble of surrounding buildings and locate a hideout with entrenched Russian soldiers in one of the houses on the outskirts. One of the fighters uses an AT-Four rocket launcher to fire at the house, immediately following up with dense small-arms fire to suppress the Russian forces. Meanwhile, the other fighters carefully advance toward the house. Upon reaching it, they further suppress the Russians on the upper floor with small-arms fire before ensuring their elimination with hand grenades.
After securing the house, the foreign fighters move forward, coordinating with each other to conduct the operation carefully. They discover another Russian firing position, which they neutralize with hand grenades. At the end of the operation, only one Russian soldier fires back at them from the last house they cleared, but he is swiftly eliminated with hand grenades and small-arms fire. Ultimately, the foreign fighters successfully cleared and secured positions on the northern outskirts of Chasiv Yar.
The Foreign Legion's key advantage lies in their proficiency in communication and coordination at the small unit level. NATO armies prioritize the autonomy of small units, a principle that former troops, now foreign fighters, are accustomed to. Consequently, they seamlessly apply their warfare tactics to their assaults.
On the contrary, Russian units frequently suffer from coordination deficiencies, resulting in significant failures. In a notable incident captured on video, a Russian armored transport, the MT-LB...

Yoo is this the sequel to the Crimean war?
"The thin red line" was coined in the Crimean war. This is a repeat.
@@stephenoneill245 Context for your comment 👍
When a band of soldiers holds out against a larger force - no matter the colour of their uniform - they might be referred to as a thin red line. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the term originated in a battle involving the British redcoats. During the Crimean War, the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment stood against the Russian cavalry at the battle of Balaklava on 25 October 1854.
Their commander Colin Campbell, 1st Baron Clyde, had told them, “There is no retreat from here, men. You must die where you stand.” And stand they did. Their line, two deep rather than the usual four, drove off the cavalry within minutes. Watching the action was a correspondent for The Times, William H Russell, who described the Highlanders as a “thin red streak, tipped with a line of steel”. Slightly altered the appellation is often used since to denote a long odds, 'last stand' scenario.
@@patrickkelly6691Thank you!
@@patrickkelly6691 IIRC it was common for British troops to fight in double lines instead of three or four deep so this has nothing to do with their specific circumstances and was just the British standard.

These kind of professional soldiers are not mobilized nor conscripted. They have volunteered and striven to be eligible to be trained with these skills. It takes years of training to be familiar with the skills and then multiple practices to gain trust with your squadmates. Practice and experience increases team survivability and effectiveness when conducting operations.
Respect to these fighters!
This is unironically the problem with the small Standing officer army + conscription of the Rus vs. “professional” armies of career soldiers in the west. It costs a lot more to train and equip the soldier but the results speak for themselves.

Largest diaspora of Ukranians is in Canada...some generations of them.Great people and I imagine some would be in the foriegn legion...as many Ukranian heritage persons have served in the Canadian armed forces.
Canada has the third largest after Ukraine and Russia. Canada originally was so vast with a sparse population and needed farmers, in order to encourage Europeans to immigrate Canada offered free land to farm and I believe free passage. There was sporadic immigration of Ukrainians to Canada as early as 1812, they then came in large waves and settled in the western provinces to farm. First wave of Ukrainian settlers was 1891-1914 and ended with WW1; the second wave 1923-1939 ended with WW2. The third wave 1945-1980, many Ukrainians were able to visit relatives in Canada, where some of them declared themselves refugees and stayed as residents. They mainly settled in the big cities of Eastern Canada, in Toronto and Montreal, where they worked mainly in large factories and plants. The fourth wave 1991-2011 (most of them had a higher education or a technical specialty, spoke English well, which made it possible for them to find jobs in Canada). The fifth wave 2014-2018: (Young Professionals in a Globalized World. The sixth wave 2022: War Immigration mainly women, children and elderly. Ukrainians living in Canada volunteered for WW1 (over 10,000 Ukrainians enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces) and for WW2 (over 35,000 Canadians of Ukrainian descent served in the Canadian military during WWII). Ukrainians contributed to the building and settlement of Canada and to what it is today. Which is why Canadians have had the pleasure of eating traditional Ukrainian food, especially at Ukrainian weddings.

Neanderthals ran around the planet for 100.000 years without fucking it up.
H.Sapiens have only managed to destroy the place in a tenth of that time.
Moral of the story is go easy on the Neanderthals.
Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens were pretty much equals until about 40.000 years ago. They had stone tool making skills that surpassed those of East Asian Homo Sapiens and they had mastered fire long before we came around. So yeah, comparing this Russian to them is a disservice to the Neanderthals.

They had achieved being a second world country, and are now back to being a third world country.
@@tnbrfller they are just savages and seem happy about it
Rus dont think so . Its all about love of csar.
@@tnbrfllerthe term "3rd world" originally means something different.
During the cold war, the west and the USSR and their allies were seen as first and second world. India, and others, didn't belong to any of the sides, so they called themselves the 3rd world. They just happen to be less developed, but originally, it's a term to describe, that you are nether western nor soviet/east, so, per definition, Russia is 2nd world, China and even North Korea are 2nd world, and never were 3rd world. It's about lifestyle, culture, allies, political direction, not about development. At least, if you look at, what this term was meant to describe 🤷♂️
And it was completed self inflicted. The poor fools brought it on themselves.
Being former military, I really appreciate the young guys volunteering to go over there. If I was 40 yrs younger I would have definitely went. There aren't too many righteous fights anymore in the world. But Ukraine is one of them. Another reason is I have never liked Russia having served during the Cold War. All Putin has done is show he is no different than Stalin regarding foreign policy.
You clearly are not former military so quit the stolen valor. If you were you would know the Union Jack is held upside down by the "British Mercenaries", 0:25 so fake
It's good for these teams to all work together. The nature of warfare is changing again and alot of adjustments have to be made in order to adapt.
I think all sides a good deal to learn from each other, hopefully they'll be able to bring back their observations, what they've learned and what works and what doesn't. We've already had quite a few surprizes there.

I haven't heard of Ukraine taking about foreign fighters for a long time.
I heard about the French Foreign fighters last month, then saw a story 2 weeks ago they were there. Thrilled they are assisting Ukrainian troops-but not just as instructors as initially announced last month.
@@3rdandlong These aren't te French trainer group. Its just barely being agreed upon and its about backline support. Foreign volunteers have been in Ukraine since almost the start. They just don't make headlines often.
@@CellGames2006 Okay, but Sun story (or another UK video) just 2-3 weeks ago claimed they "were arriving in Ukraine" at that time. Not doubting being there since start of conflict, just going by some of these posted videos making that claim additional troops were coming in.
@@3rdandlongThis is two completely different groups. Your thinking of the French military/French foreign legion, as covered by the Sun. The OP video is talking about the civilians who volunteered for the Ukrainian foreign legion.
UA is learning how to use theses fighters properly.
The over simple explanation these fighters come from a more aggressive experience
Nato even defense are more of a offensive tactic orientation.
It might be hard to belive. But there are also Belarusian soldiers fighting for Ukraine.
It's not hard to believe. Lots of Belarusians are pro Ukraine, and against their arguably illegitimate government (vote fraud).
There's also Russian and Chechen fighters in the Ukrainian army. Hell, there was even a guy from Afghanistan.

Volenteer fighters is all the west can offer in form of soldiers.
But these soldiers are very competant.
the soldiers that volunteer to fight will often be the greatest fighters, especially when they are against unwilling conscripts forced to fight
They aren't stopping them volunteering.
my dad used to say having a strong team feeling and going in with good spirits and a coordinated plan is really what matters on those sort of missions
At this point, it would not be a good idea to command western troops to fight in Ukraine. On the other hand, allowing regular soldiers (that are currently enlisted) to volunteer and allowing them to take a leave of absence for this... seems to me a perfect solution.
They aren't "offered by the west" they left the comfort of their homes to join the fight on their own free will.

It’s good to hear the International Legion has gotten its act together. For a long time, all the best foreign fighters avoided the IL like the plague and usually formed their own units and were attached to Ukrainian units.
Of course the frontline situation is murky.. I wouldn't be surprised if the situation that you describe still is the case and it is a collection of UA regulars, IL and other assorted units that are in action in that area.

Great info
Important lesson to be taught here and how important the difference is between a conscript and a volunteer or rebel/freedom fighter.
Conscripts like the Russian soldiers only fight because they’re forced to.
The Ukrainians and the foreign volunteers on the other hand are like rebels and have motivation to fight which makes them strong.
I've never seen a ladder sight used on picatinny rail before.
Thanks for another great video!🇦🇺👴🏻
The foreign fighters also allow countries to commit spec ops that would normally be prohibited to assist. I mean if a soldier is on extended leave what they do on their off time is their own buisness.
The western governments are unlikely to send foreign fighters piecemeal like that. Vast majority are almost surely doing it on their own initiative since using special operations forces in a war like this without explicit air support is a huge risk that isn't worth it for most NATO countries.
For those commenting on the upside down Union flag, I think the image has been reversed (due to copyright strike claims?) - in the original the window, with the broad white uppermost, would've been on the (correct) left...

Lot of manufacturing seem to be also in those second tier places, not in moscow, so it hits badly in that. Although societies can take insane losses, 1million casualties out of 20-40million population and they still continue after war to rebuild in past european wars. Same happened in Syria, Lebanon, Libya.... first ones to leave are doctors,lawers,engineers,teachers... anyone with skilled job.... rest are unemployed low skill, manufacturing, "cannon fodder" with not much more than AK in hand. This is not new. In 2022 when Russia had attacked Ukraine, the Ukrainian government had some 48,000 people volunteer to join this legion, but they could only accept 1,000.
Following on from this is about April 2022, Russia launched a recruitment of their own to try and get foreign fighters of which they were able to scrape together some 800 Syrians, Libyans and other nationalities. @@JamesJeffersonRecords You have literally replied this same type of shit on three other comments. The only people you are smart enough to fool are your employers at the IRA. Fuck off back home with your 300$ USD a month allowance.
@@JamesJeffersonRecordsA way to tell if they are bots are looking at other comments they posted and also the time they joined YT.
