For those who are afraid of broken pcbs: Gigabyte has Changed the design. Additionally: in Germany the Card was only 20€ above msrp (ye 569 instead of 549 ). Obviously sold out on day 1.
Be aware of bad gigabyte rma support. Previous (nvidia) released cards would be declined rma if pcie was broken, which will happen due to gigabyte cheaping out and killing traces when breaking. If you see them cheaper than other cards in your region, beware.
I had a Gigabyte 3080Ti explode on me, the VRM's popped after 6 months and Gigabyte wanted nothing to do with it. Luckily I got a full refund from where I bought it from, but it took 11 weeks of angry emails and threats of getting UK trading standards involved to get a refund. Gigabyte are absolute trash, and their customer support is somehow worse.
What I really want is a card that does not go balls to the wall power-gobbling and instead has a bios that focusses on low power consumption, undervolting and whisper quiet fans at base clocks. I don't care for hot and loud cards, I want good performance at minimum noise, without having to spend a day tinkering myself. It is a shame that this kind of optimization still does not seem to be on the radar of any manufacturer to date.
yeah, the Hellhound and Sapphire Nitro+ do offer a Silent BIOS with lower power, but it's still about the same as reference. You could always undervolt/reduce power limit yourself further but i agree, a proper 'ECO' mode option out of the box would be nice to see
Gigabyte tends to be more aggressive with its fan profiles than other brands from what I've seen, so this is nothing new. It is a little surprising to see how aggressive Gigabyte seems to also be with their pricing on these, considering the size of the cooler on these. Gigabyte versions of the RTX 4070 were also the first 4070's in the US to see a widely available drop to 550 USD in the US after the 7800 XT launch (possibly only a temporary drop, but still). I'm not the biggest fan of Gigabyte, and I have heard about some of their cards having weaker PCB strength lately, but that shouldn't be an issue as long as you properly support the card, or just put the card into a case with a horizontal motherboard. I have also heard some bad things about potential security flaws with their bios firmware used in their motherboards. All that being said, they seem to have some very competitive graphics cards lately. Gigabyte is one of the biggest manufacturers of motherboards and graphics cards, and they always seem to have some good products. Like all of these big companies, they have some bad products, but don't let that stop you from buying some of their good products. Personally I would probably prefer to look to get something from Sapphire or Powercolor, but just finding a good card in stock for a good price from any brand should be the #1 priority.
