Thank you, Archbishop Gregory, for your courageous witness!
This was a terrific half hour of television. Hats off to CBS and Face the Nation. Just great.
Thank you for giving these two church leaders serious air time. We need the time to listen to thoughtful experts and who have meaningful, caring things to say.
Wonderful! Kudos to Face the Nation. Bring Cardinal Gregory and Bishop Budde back for more important discussion.
What a much needed and wonderful discussion. Thank you for presenting this segment. Please have them back again. Discussions like this are needed many times not just on Easter.
Thank you for a thoughtful and respectful discussion.
+He is risen+
A thoughtful, wide-ranging, articulate discussion our country and faith by Bishop Budde and Cardinal Gregory. They covered many points of the issues facing our country, and the world. Each certainly stood for the importance of faith in helping to set the moral tone, and were concerned about how to meet the young adults where they are, and that are struggling with faith. Each accepted that we are not in total agreement about every topic, but that open dialogue needs to be continuous, and that faith should be front and center is setting morality. I appreciated their unequivocal agreement that Bibles should not be sold for political gain, and the the Constitution and other such documents do not belong in the Bible. It was an excellent conversation. Well worth watching. Thank you, and blessings to both of you in your leadership roles. 🙏🏻💛🕊️
When you are hated for doing good, that is the greatest honor one can receive.
Would love to see these two on again -- a really interesting, respectful conversation on issues both spiritual and current
What a rare and beautiful gift to hear the Good News and not the tragic distortion which emanates from so many U.S. pulpits at this time in our nation’s history. Thank you!
well spent 30 minutes. FTN should do more of this kind of show!!
Good to hear!
A union of being pro life, pro consistency and pro sincerity: that sounds like a beautiful triangular challenge for the nation that's being faced here. Compliments!
Except that Bishop Budde is pro-choice.
@2Uahoj The comment isn't about 3 random, separate features, nor about any singular individual. It's about the whole of the nation, facing specifically these three features combined in an interrelated unity, and thus being challenged to keep these three together, for integrity's and credibility's sake 😊
@@tjipjoustra4359 But that's precisely the point. These things do not "fit" together.
@2Uahoj when definitions identify persons, that might be the case, yeah. When, on the other hand, people define identities, their own for starters, that might be different though. Maybe that's where the challenge lies, in choosing for the latter or for the first.
Where i find peace and tranquility is in meditation, not just during the meditation, but I take it through my day.
Beautiful conversation. Thank you!

Will never happen my friend. His Eminence has given the approval of the President's stand on the sin of abortion.
@@grahamcombs4752Yes, but, surprisingly, he did stand up for life here against the opinion of the feminist Bishop.

Great discussion! More on religion 👏👏👏👏
It would be wonderful to have them back often to speak on the show and to include leaders of other faiths or theologies. These are much needed conversations especially in our current times. True, we cannot forget that politics and religion should and must be separate; however, there is a difference between religion and faith or spirituality, good and evil, kindness and inhumanity and giving and selfishness. Values, morals and standards are paramount.
I was fully immersed and focused on the conversation and their perspectives, though after watching the full segment on UA-cam, I was somewhat disappointed with the editing that omitted what I felt were pertinent portions of the full conversation. Despite that, it was an interesting segment on MTP this morning.
I wish a Happy Easter to all and may this world, with the help of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, learn to live and love one another as one people, as brothers and sisters and human beings who value, respect and appreciate life as God intended in the beginning. Regardless of what our beliefs and opinions are, we cannot deny that all of us (unless we are truly evil, without a heart and conscience) want the same thing in the end...to love and be loved unconditionally, to live in peace and unity and to leave our earth a better place for our future generations.
Like it or not, it is an important and newsworthy topic even if you are not a believer.
Excellent! Those of faith need to speak up and out to counter the weaponization of hate. Youth need us to be an example more now than ever. This was a great idea. Do more on a regular basis! In God We Trust is the foundation of democracy.
Listening to Bishop, Marianne, BUDDE and Wilton, cardinal Gregory on face nation. I'm inspired to write that the constitutional prohibition to merging church and state is as much to protect the freedom to worship of Christians as it is to protect those misguided or who misunderstand from trying to stop those of other faiths from enjoying the same constitutional protections
What??????????
Because these are examples of true people of faith not fools attacking the capitol or proclaiming white christian nationalist violence who follow a wannabe dictator. There are good people who believe in love as the central tenet of their religion. @@aleejones7508
The phrasing in the Constitution is "shall not create a State religion". We haven't, and many other beliefs are welcome here, and usually get along in projects of doing good.
As a protestant I enjoyed listening to the straight forward sharing of their viewpoints even though I agree with portions of Catholicism. This was my first time hearing a Catholic priest include All aspects of life and not exclude everything after birth.
Both our faiths must protect our churches from the encroachment of worldly influences. Many incorporate them to attract and appeasing young seekers. The world is the world and the church is the spotless bride of Christ.
Thank you! (Fayetteville, NC, USA)
Happy Easter.
Bishop Budde is on point.
Thank you both for a great dialogue
What an amazing interview!
Politicians should not make a decision about a woman's body. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, should the man who raped have his penis removed? Should that be a law in each state? Lawmakers should have no business deciding how a woman manages her body. If they do, then manage the man's body too.
Smart, inspirational, savvy, long overdue conversation.
I am a Catholic of the Roman Rite of the Benedictine Order. I am voting for Trump.
This was fantastic. Thank you!
Young Catholics ARE increasingly going to Traditional Mass. Even have whole pages and podcasts on these "Rad Trads". The loss of local Latin Mass may drive some away permanently: some to Orthodox Churches, some to other denominations.
Happy Easter! Glad to hear their message.
Nice words
I am disappointed that my church wide Bishop of the ELCA, Elizabeth Eaton was not included in this conversation. A lot of criticism on Biden and a blind eye toward his predecessor.
women cant be bishops bruv
We need more faith leaders in the U.S. like them.
S/o to that black man
People seem to be ignoring the full scope of what Cardinal Gregory is saying or just filtering it through their partisan bias. First, he only answered that question on Biden because he was asked it. He wasn't "imposing" anything. Second, he clearly spoke of a consistent life ethic. So he is not someone who focuses only on abortion. He also focuses extensively on capital punishment, war, healthcare, poverty, etc. But people just choose what they want to hear when it doesn't fit their partisan logic.
if that be the case why didn't he admonish the demon who is running the Republican Party-he is a criminal and needs to be held accountable. It sounded as if the Cardinal was passing judgement on a good Christian. Wrong.
Didn't hear him comment on all the children that have been molested....there's caring for children, Aye!
@@annieoakley1364he's a cardinal . He's trying to be diplomatic .

The "consistent life ethic" was flawed from the beginning. There is no way one can equate the taking of innocent life (abortion) with death penalty issues in capital criminal cases. It was bad philosophy and bad theology. And I am anti death penalty.

The thing is, I am also very concerned about how the message of Christianity is being distorted (just like the episcopal woman stated).

Nice conversation. Happy Easter!
As a Gongaza grad I say, defend thy faith Christians for it is full of error.
Says the person who hardly understands the faith.
True Faith in God is not full of errors. Some doctrines may have errors and they certainly can lead to division. Also, there are many Christians whose actions and speech are in error. I think it behooves all Christians to really read the Gospels. Find out who Jesus really was and what he taught. How wonderful this world could be if we all strive to follow His teachings and example.
LOL Bp. Budde's cheeky smile while they talk about Biden, got my laughing.
Congratulations to Cardinal Gregory for standing up for "life" on Face the Nation, and shame on Bishop Budde for her anti-life position, which is the antithesis of Christianity. How in the world did she get to be a Christian bishop??
If only we had a Cardinal in DC with the spine and courage to talk straight and with truth about our Catholic faith.

The young people in the church want tradition! And yet, the dear Cardinal goes out of his way to ban it. Go to any Latin Mass community and see all the young families and youth-that is the future of the church, not this lukewarm swill of ecumenism and discussions about unspecified “goodness.” I pray His Eminence learns this soon, before our church empties out because there is nothing real and different from the world here.
The young people should want Jesus only in the sacrament, not some high flung liturgical grandiosity that is out of touch
@@iloveamerica007that’s a truly terrible comment about an ancient form of worship that helps many commune with God.
Christ conquered death and is risen Alleluia. This is a great hope for our world in darkness with moral confusion. Pray for the conversion of hearts to know and respect the sacredness of marriage and the sanctity of life. According to our Lady of Fatima, war is the punishment for our sins. If we terminate innocent lives in the wombs, expect there will be death and destruction in the world. We reap what we sow. Thank you for the great discussion and insights. God bless!

Really good thoughts Bishop Marianne, as always. With love and Easter blessings! He is risen indeed!
To the matter of separating the powers of the church and the state, is it unfitting to ask if state documents are included in a "Bible", if that work is indeed still properly labeled a "Bible"? If so, why not allow advertising for whatever cause whatever cause to "enhance" the August scripture? Perhaps even family planning institutes can advertise? Are we seeing the beginning of polarized "Bibles"? does Grifting know no limits? Those who purport to sanctify Christianity in law should honor he whom it is named after, and leave Cesar to Cesar.

Liberal Cardinal Gregory.
Qhat about our Constitutional Right to Freedom From Religion?
Actually our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people
The issue is that Joe Biden is still pretending to be a Catholic while also publicly practicing and proclaiming very uncatholic things. All we Catholics are saying is that he is a hypocrite and liar. He can chose whatever religion he wants, satanism is actually perfectly in line with his professed public views.
Are you compelled to attend Mass?
Okay, so feel free to whine on another station.
if a person wants to be a christian simply read the sermon on the mount. He has laid it out there very clearly. You don't need a church you don't need a priest or anyone else. that is all one needs The lord will put people in ones path or answer directly to anyone who seeks the true path of God
Just the Sermon on the Mount? I thought Christianity is summarised by John 3:16. You also have the rest of the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament and the Old Testament. The Sermon on the Mount is not the source and summit of Christianity. The source and summit of Christianity would be God (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit). You might prefer the Sermon on the Mount to Leviticus 18, but the Sermon on the Mount is an intensification of the morality which comes from the Ten Commandments.
So this world isn’t as god intended. So who’s to say heaven, the next world or the next plan won’t also be as god intended and we’re right back where we are now????? God is just an ignorant way of trying to explain the age old questions of who are we and why are we here.
Auto named bishop and cardinal.
Neither political party has dibbs on morality. Remember Abu Ghraib, remember Guantanamo Bay prisoners, kept 25 or more years with no due process whatever.
To this lesbian Bishop I would remind her that Jesus said “Either you are hot or cold the lukewarm I spit out of my mouth.
No,no,no!yes it is uplifting to hear religious leaders comment on how faith can help us navigate these difficult worldwide tragedies, but personal attacks on how our president practices his own faith is a cheap shot. "SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE" is part of the foundation of our democracy.Joe Biden leads a country full of many religions and idiologies, how he practices his own faith is deeply personal and unrelated.I watch your show regularly, and enjoy your unbiased political reporting, but was appalled at the way this conversation was literally led.I was surprised it wasn't followed by a commercial with Trump selling bibles.Maybe next week you should interview religious leaders about the centuries of abuse, violence, and religious persecution inflicted, that their faith was built on.
Agreed, mostly, but faith cannot help us navigate anything. It CAN steer people, but as an old sailor, I think anything that an be called a navigational aid should only point to the right path. Faith can point people in ANY direction.
thank you for your truth to power, sometimes I feel so alone when I see so many ignorant self serving command
Actually it’s not. Separation of church and state is not found anywhere in the constitution. Also Biden is not following his faith at all seeing as he supports abortion and same sex marriage. Yes faith is personal but you are supposed to openly express it via works and testimony. Biden is ashamed of his faith and won’t express it unless it’s convenient for him. His FBI has gone after Catholics and Pro-lifers too.
I agree. Separation of state and religion and we should extend it to support of Israel that’s in large part driven by the misguided evangelical doctrines. We’ll lose our country over this.
Its very brave of the Bishop on the left (in every possible way) to take stabs at Trump. Very brave indeed.
It is also stunning.
@@NotANameist some may even go do far as to call it stunningly brave.

Listening to the woman I would ask where does she get a scriptural reference for her life position? It’s interesting that Bible scripture reference, the authority for Christian salvation, life and living, is not referred to in the conversation. Instead I heard the word “conscious”. Your conscious is not godly unless it is fundamentally structured and based on Bible scripture. Doing what you think is right in your own eyes is not godly.
Religion will be the end of us.
So much hatred and division in the name of " love"??

Politicians DO NOT get to impose their personal beliefs on the people! The Bishop is waayyy off base critiquing Biden about that.
No, they do. Catholic teaching specifically mandates that you actively promote it at all cost, including as an elected official. You represent God's Law before you represent any other and God's Law takes exclusive precedent.
@@JonCrs10not in the the secular United States it doesn’t. The US is not one’s church, temple, synagogue or mosque. You are free to believe what you will-but you have no right to impose that belief on others. That’s why the wall of separation between Church and State.
That is truly one of the silliest (to put it kindly) things I’ve ever read.
Every politician (Christian or Muslim, atheist or Hindu, agnostic or Jew) “imposes” their beliefs on the people.
Every vote, every signature on a bill, every executive order, and every judgement is in and of itself an outward expression of their belief.
You either serve your declared beliefs, or your own financial and professional interests. If you place one over the other, you are bound to inevitably upset someone. If I were a Catholic Christian, I know who I would rather upset and it isn't God (if I were a true and faithful believer).
As a society, we do this all the time. "Thou shall not steal" is a "religious" belief. Yet, laws against larceny, burglary, robbery, etc. are on the books in all 50 states. Should we legalize theft because it is a "religious" teaching? "Thou shall not bear false witness" is also a religious, moral teaching. Should we legalize perjury? Slander?
Put another way, if a religion was *silent* on these things...e,g, had no opinion whatsoever on the key questions of human existence...then what kind of religion is that? I would HOPE a religion will say "these things are bad."
Is a politician *not allowed* to "personally believe" theft is wrong? What kind of person thinks that? Why would we want such a person in a position of elected leadership?
Conclusion: politicians should have personal beliefs, and should act accordingly. If you don't like the politician's personal beliefs, vote for one with different beliefs or run for office yourself.
The issue with Biden is that he is dishonest with himself and others. He claims to have one set of beliefs ("I am Catholic") but then, when asked, insists he believes something else. If he chooses to believe what he does, that is his business. But it is dishonest to present oneself as believing one way, when one really doesn't. So if Biden is publicly saying "I'm one of his (Gregory's) flock," then Gregory is allowed to respond and say, "not really."
I love her!! I want her religion!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I am sorry, but that is prohibited.
They wear their collers so readily for their master. As a human it deeply saddens me to see any my fellow man shackled, quite literally in this case, by their non existent god(s). There is Hope, always there is Hope. Trust in Man, not god. Long live Man!
The Cardinal shouldn't criticize our President, even if that's how he feels. He should be bringing the people together.
REALLY?HE CANT SPEAK TRUTH OR WHATS ON HIS MIND.CENSOR HIM IS BASICLY WHAT YOU ARE ALLUDEING TOO.
But Cardinal Gregory is doing his job as a bishop to criticize and condemn politicians who are not using their power to promote the Church's views. Its no different than when St Ambrose of Milan excommunicated Emperor Theodosius: it is quite literally part of the man's job to be exceptionally harsh on politicians who aren't abiding by the Laws of the Church.

I replied here yesterday (April 2, 2024) and now my comment is missing? I merely pointed out that for mammals (of which humans are one kind), the embryo or fetus does all of the following: it has a metabolism, it consumes oxygen and produces waste, it grows, the cells reproduce (mitosis), and it responds to external stimuli. All of these are well-established signs of life.

@conniebauer4128 Donald Trump isn't formally a Catholic like Biden. If Biden wasn't Catholic either, then there'd be no real difference as the issue is specifically that Biden calls himself a Catholic specifically.
