Don't be sad this music is gone, be happy it existed. Edit: I know it still exists but what i mean is you don't see rock and roll in the top charts anymore. Personally, i don't hate the modern charts. Sure, I'll listen to one or two songs from there every now and then but it's just not the same as these times. Rock on people! 🤟🤟
I believe Neil Young said it best when he inducted these 2 into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, "every band I've ever been a part of has tried, and failed, to match the harmonies of the Everly Brothers." Often imitated, NEVER topped.
I am not an American but I can feel and imagine 1960s and 1970s were American Golden Ages. They are really singing the dream ages which faded away and became dim with a long time. I am sinking in my old days with the song, "All I have to is dream".
Honestly, I hate how people today walk around with indecent cloths, and talk like they have never taken a grammar class. Don't even get me started with the fake music. Bottom line the late 40's-70's were indeed America's golden age.
+Cierre Wesley Yeah, you pinpointed it. I also know the racism was the most terrible in those days. In this regard Elvis was a incredibly great singer but I think he is obviously overrated and he is neither the king of Rock N Roll nor the unique greatest in the world ever. King Elvis was created by white Americans in the horrible racism, putting aside so many great black musicians like Ike Turner, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Ray Charles, etc. who are no less legendary than Elvis. There can’t be any way white Americans deny that he benefited a lot from the racism. I just mean the 1950s~1970s Golden Ages are conducive to white Americans' prime time.
So great....A time when we sang all about love, girls and guys falling in love or missing love because our hearts were made of a kinder substance than those of today.
I'm a millenial, but I have to say that music from this era really is a revelation when compared to the over-commercialized nothingness that is today's popular music. Musicians seemed so levelheaded and sincere back then, whereas today's music industry is all about shock-factor and celebrity.
Thanks and I totally believe that. I never imagined this society could decline so fast and be so uneducated and cold. I'm a decorated soldier as well and wish I never fought for this country that I can hardly recognize anymore. Anyhow.....all the best to you.

These are by far the best vocal harmonies EVER! They are sharing ONE microphone. Phrasing, accentuation, pronounciation - perfectly synchronous! Look how they even move back and forward to realize dynamic details. Absolutely PERFECT!
Mystique harmonization is used to make the music feel good. It’s just one element of the song. They practiced this technique whenever asked to perform.
You don't get Simon and Garfunkel (whom I love, BTW) and the Righteous Brothers without the Everlys. Both groups said the Everlys influenced them heavily.
The Everly Brothers take me back to grade school and the present. I listened to The Everly Brothers as a kid in the sixties, I worshiped their harmonies and sang them religiously. My best friend from those days David Smith reached out after 50+ years & said, till this day he remembers coming over to my house and we'd sing this song. He said when ever he heard it he thought of those days & it will never leave his mind or mine for that matter and we'll never forget The Times we spent singing The Everly Brothers songs, Cathy's clown was Our most memorable, we sung it from the top of our lungs he reminds me, we were around 7 & 8 years old. I'm 63 now. They bonded us for life. thank you Don & Phil

These guys could really sing! Their tight harmonies were a huge influence on The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel and so many others. That's not to take away from the beauty of their own works of course.
Good observation. "Please Please Me" by The Beatles comes to mind when I hear, "Cathy's Clown". Same structure with the descending melody line under the monotone high notes..."Last night I said these words to my girl". Compare to, "Don't want your lo-o-o-o-ove any more".
I mean people have different opinions I personally like this music but whatever i can see other perspectives as someone who also listens to death metal sometimes this sort of thing doesn’t appeal 🤷

+Patricia Oakes Wouldn`t know because I`m quite younger but I belive you so much. 60s for teenage years and 70s for 20+. That counts for America only ofc. :-)
It's amazing, but they sing as one voice, starting and stopping each line precisely at the same time . I first heard them as a 13 year old on the radio and I was instantly hooked by their beautiful harmonies. Still a fan to this day. It's sad that they are no longer, but I'm grateful for their having been . Thank you, Phil and Don .
just think; before the late 19th century no human voice could be heard without the singer actually being physically in the presence of the listener and once someone died their voice was gone forever. We perceive the world in such a different way than all humans who came before modern times did.
Hey Lorraine Ashby this song always reminds me of a road sign i saw one time while driving through Tennesee when i was much younger (but i'm not much older, hahah) and it showed a picture of Phil and Don and below it it said..... @@foggymountainmusic3468 Phil and Don Everly were idolized by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It’s well documented. Also, Paul hat tips Phil and Don in his 1976 song “ Let ‘em in.”
When the Beatles broke up in 1961 temporarily after a messy trip to Hamburg (George and others were arrested and deported) John and Paul actually pondered being a duo act and being called the “British Everly Brothers” but that didn’t last very long as the Beatles eventually got back together and went back to Germany where they got discovered by Brian Epstein

Their harmonies are so great that it actually sounds like 4 people rather than 2
Righteous Brothers.
The Beach Boys.
Of course there are still people watching. I was bought up with this fabulous duo. Takes me back to wonderful times. Now nearly 75. So sorry they are no longer here.
The blueprint for male pop harmony. No one ever did it better. RIP the Everlys.
It’s crazy to think what kinda magical harmonies these brothers made with mostly just two voices.
No matter your age, you can't help but smile with these two songs.
And I'm here , in the quarantine, listen to this jewels of all times. Who else in 2020? In the stupid pandemic ?

Although i am an introvert I refuse to "quarantine". I'm healthy, fit, allergic to nothing and am not at all concerned about Kung Flu.
And 50s
+ClassicBoxing88 Yeah, you are absolutely right. 1950s can't be passed up.
Honestly, I hate how people today walk around with indecent cloths, and talk like they have never taken a grammar class. Don't even get me started with the fake music. Bottom line the late 40's-70's were indeed America's golden age.
They were actually our worst times because of the amount of racism. No doubt there is still some today but it's nowhere near as bad
