I am not a native speaker, but I have been studying and writing in English for well over 20years. Lately I have been listening to videos on UA-cam saying “assume” as “ashume” with an “sh” sound, that is the reason I searched for this video. What is that about?
Hi, that's pretty strange, I'm not sure why people would be saying it that way.
@@SpeechModification Hi, thank you very much for responding so quickly to my comment. This video here ua-cam.com/video/efBG1YfuNhg/v-deo.html at 0:21 is one example of the videos that I have been listening to. Now that I think about it might also be the British pronunciation and my listening is off. If you could take a look at it, I would appreciate it. Thanks again.
I think he's an Australian speaker. I don't know if they typically use an "sh" sound in "assume," but I don't think so. Some dialects will do 'uh-syou m" with the glide /j/, which might be what you're hearing in other examples.
@@Reikotsu I feel like more and more people say "ashume" and it drives me crazy. It sounds so annoying and unnatural to me yuck
I came here for the same reason
Thank you Christine.
Thanks Christine 😊
Thank you so much teacher
I used to say it in the British way hahahaha
Awesome, thank you🎉
Thanks for watching!

Good suggestion, I can cover your word in a future video.
How to prononce : seek vs sick please explain about this next🙏🏻
Hi, these words have the tense /i/ "ee" vs. the lax /ɪ/ "i" vowel, which you can learn about in this video where I talk about other pairs of words like "seek" and "sick': ua-cam.com/video/epvg8bxHI1E/v-deo.html
how about pronouncing it like “ashume”
I haven't heard an "SH" sound in the American pronunciation - in some other dialects the "soom" might be pronounced "syoum" and perhaps you're hearing the /sj/ as an SH sound. I'd avoid that pronunciation unless you're somewhere where that's how it's typically said.
Stupid and wrong.
Some say Ah-ssYOOM
Yes, that's more typical of British English dialects.
