    Thank you for this video - obviously there are people on here complaining that it's tips they already knew - forgetting that there are other people in this world besides them that do appreciate your tips since we have never attempted using power tools for basic small jobs.
    Now I dont have to worry about mishandling a circular saw - you saved my fingers👍

    I just can't believe how so many of viewers can miss the point! Of course you can use a high end tool and blade, That's not the point, this man is teaching valuable tricks for those of us that have to work what we got and sometimes improvise. Thank you my good man, your effort in educating others is very much appreciated.

      It’s not missing the point it’s overlooking the point. It’s like if the video was about the choosing the best blades for clean cuts, and someone commented ‘just tape your cut line’. Some ppl’s resourcefulness in a given situation are through skill/knowledge and others are through money. This is why we all have the same potential for great wealth and abundance if we can operate from the appropriate context.

    I use this tape trick all the time as a guitar builder. It keeps new router openings from tearing out, if I'm drilling holes for a bridge it will keep the finish from flaking out, and it provides a great location for guide markings. Draw lines, crosshairs, or tape on the guitar, tape on the template, and then a quick spray of contact adhesive on the template tape, press the template in place, and it will stay in place much easier with less clamping force.

    I always use a down cutting blade but you must turn off the pendulum action. This will give a perfectly clean top surface on ply and melamine boards (as used for cabinet making ) as the blades are incredibly sharp. You must also keep a steady downwards pressure on the jigsaw as it will tend to rise up

      These blades are purpose made for cutting Melamine and Formica bench tops and are incredibly sharp. THEY DO NOT LIKE TIGHT RADIUS BENDS. I have cut a swept bend and then “sneaked up” to the original line with a second pass after the waste has fallen away. Regarding the thicker boards like butcher blocks, they create problems with blade drift which causes the cuts to not stay perpendicular. I have yet to learn that skill or to find a better blade. Perhaps a bandsaw would be better for thick stock

    I've been using masking tape for melamine coated mdf and fine plywood using all types of saw blades. I needed to replace a false drawer for a sink front that was damaged by a tenant and since it was January in Vermont and my workshop has no heat I decided to go to a big box store and buy a shelf rather than sheet of melamine that would sit out in the shed all winter. I also picked up some more masking tape as I had painting to do and measured and taped the hell out of the shelf (at least 4 tight layers of tape for each cut) so they could cut the width and the length down for me. Needless to say they were reluctant because the saw they use has a very low number of BPI's and I said if I'm wrong I will obviously pay for the ruined shelf and the tape of course and buy a new one and cut it with my jigsaw in the apartment. They made the cuts and then we removed the tape and they were shocked; the cut was as smooth as a baby's bottom. They couldn't believe it and I explained that my Dad was a man of all hacks and he taught me that one and many more and I use it on all kinds of fine plywood. I recently bought some Starrett blades for my jigsaw because according to UA-camrs they cut well because they cut on both the downward and upward stroke. I just got them so I can't wait to try them out.

    These are handy tricks for using a jigsaw. Exspesally if it's a older saw. Thanks for sharing

  • @markomarten
    @markomarten Рік тому +1

    You can get blades designed to cut virtually anything but the trick is to use the appropriate blade. As a general rule the thicker the wood the bigger the teeth. In some instances you might need a blade that has a reverse cut to help keep the top part from splintering or similar. You can use a saw with a pendulum action but that might cause it to try and pull the saw instead and not give a good cut. It’s worth knowing what you are cutting and ensuring you are familiar with what’s going to happen, a suitable blade is not money wasted. Take a bit of time to buy some blades like Bosch for example and they will last you well. A decent jigsaw doesn’t have to be expensive but it is worth taking time selecting the right one for you. I would strongly recommend you buy safety goggles and wear them when cutting stuff, you only get one pair of eyes and should look after them.

    The best way is to just cut upside down, but it requires a steady hand. When you put the saw on the underside, thf blade will pull down during cutting, thud you will have a perfect cut on top without any splinters.
    Another huge advantage is that you see where you are cutting, without the saw case obstruction your view.

    • @Eric_W
      @Eric_W 3 роки тому +3

      Upside down, really? So why not just turn the board over and cut it...? But that isn't the point here, the point is for a clean cut on BOTH sides of the board, thus the tape.
