Thank you for very succinct and clear how-to. There are people, like me, who do not arrange things like cuttings into any sort of pattern, and there are people, like you, that see it as the opportunity to create order and beauty.
Thanks for the help. I got my first tiny little succulent from a friend last summer, it was half-dead on arrival, partially cooked on my friend's car dashboard after being found in a trash bin. It was making a full recovery, but this winter I accidently knocked it over and broke the stem. I saved the leaves and been trying much of your advice, now many of the leaves are taking root. It feels good being able to give this plant yet another chance to shine.
I've knocked over two of my jade plants in the last 6 months and it's so frustrating. The first one died within a week and none of the leaves took, the second one wasn't as damaged and I'm hoping it'll be okay. It's been a week already so it's already doing better than the first one.
Thank you for the information. I like the symmetrical design you arranged the leaves in. My Dad loved to grow plants and I still have one, a sedum he started many years ago. Helpful video on propagating, thank you! I’ve tried before without much success. Edit: 8 month update! I’m successfully propagating succulents and now have new tiny babies growing. You’ve taught me well. Thanks so much :)
Thank you for this. You've got such a lovely, inspiring and accessible manner. It's great to have more blokes making these kinds of videos. Made me smile.
Thank you for saying why not to put them in the soil right away because I've had so many leaves die and always just assumed it was a 50/50 chance of sprouting. Although it may be for the best about half of the ones I got did get to sprout quickly and I didn't have enough extra cash laying around to buy a new pot for all of them.
Just a friendly reminder, literally anything (in theory) can be used as a pot so long as you have access to some soil. I’ve used old candle jars (after having melted out all the old wax with boiling hot water of course), metal tins from various food products, old glass jars from food items and metal buckets. Also any ceramic pots or containers that I had spare just laying around. Literally anything can be used in theory, even ceramic bowls and kitchenware. Just whatever you have spare laying about. These are especially good to use whilst your plants are still establishing a root system as you can’t say for sure that they will 100% survive, once you’re confident they will survive and they’ve grown a little into a appropriate sized plant you can go out and purchase a proper terracotta pot or what have you (even then those pots aren’t overly expensive whatsoever but I prefer personally not to have dozens of empty pots laying around since I live in an apartment with limited balcony space so I’ll only purchase more plant pots as I need them).
- You can use empty plastic containers that grocery produce comes in; a broken mug; anything that can hold the potting mix (in this case cocoa-peat was used); empty face cream jars; caps off hair-spray or shaving-cream containers; anything under the sun!
@@zaria.rejean - When you’re “sprouting” something, there’s not much of a root system for a while, therefore, drainage holes aren’t that vital. When watering, a good misting is all that’s necessary so there’s little water collecting at the bottom. That’s why I’m saying any item that can hold a small amount of potting mix is sufficient until time has passed and there’s a good root system. Then, yes, drainage holes are then needed when the seedling/sapling/etc. is being replanted to a larger, more permanent container.

Meghan Stewart perlite is not a fertilizer 😊😊Perlite is a volcanic glass that is heated to 1,600 degrees F. (871 C.) whereupon it pops much like popcorn and expands to 13 times its former size, resulting in an incredibly lightweight material. In fact, the end product weighs only 5 to 8 pounds per cubic foot. The super heated perlite is comprised of tiny air compartments. Under a microscope, perlite is revealed as being covered with many tiny cells that absorb moisture on the exterior of the particle, not inside, which makes it particularly useful in facilitating moisture to plant roots.
I've been propagating succulents exactly like this for about two years and they take ages to get to the stage he has shown. Some take 12 months to look like mini plants :(
Tracey Bland thank you for your comment. 😊😊hahaha in 12 months my echeveria grows as big as water melons ....after new plants are formed you have to fertilize them using liquid fertilizers for better and healthy growth...just keeping them as it is will not do wonders for you ..thanxx tc

TY so much 4 the detail teachings of how to.... I have no knowledge of how to multiply plants (which I love!) but I will try this method. Gave a blessed day
Thanks for a detailed video. I've been doing this all wrong. I will definitely try your way. One question, what is coco moss? Is that same thing as peat moss?
Nancy Broughton thank you for your comment....😊🤗Cocopeat is a natural fibre made out of coconut husks. The extraction of the coconut fibre from husks gives us this by-product called cocopeat. Cocopeat is a 100% natural growing medium. This cocopeat dried in the natural sun, are processed to produce different items namely cocopeat block, cocopeat briquettes, cocopeat tablets etc. This makes an excellent growing medium for hydrophonics or container plant growing. Clean coir has natural rooting hormones and anti-fungal properties...coco peat n peat moss are both different things ...😊😊..instead of coco peat you can use cacti and succulent mix..it will work fine ..🤗
Nancy Broughton here where I live is very difficult to find coconut moss so instead of that I use peat moss mixed in equal parts with coarse sand and some perlite (like a third of the amount of peat and sand), then I add a little poting soil to make it less compacting. That's the mix I have used in all my succulents and works great and it's far less expensive than cactus mix. However the coconut moss could be a better alternative to propagate succulents if you can find it.
Urban Gardener Bro i m planning to buy 6 to 8 diff varieties of succulents but i found out they are unusually expensive online. Can you suggest me some places where i can get them at reasonable rates....

However the coconut moss could be a better alternative to propagate succulents if you can find it.
great..:)
