- Maybe if the Legion was an actually developed faction I'd give them a shot. But as it stands the legion in vanilla new vegas don't really give me a good reason to join with them. Any who, I just like this scene and wanted to use it

My last playthrough, the legion became hostile without me firing a single shot.
The legion warned me that if I continued to help (do missions) their rival factions, that Caesar would take offense to it.
They did.
You can hurt the legion in more ways than one.
Caesar is a dick but he is practical in that he will only let you meddle for so long before he puts his foot down and starts sending hit squads.

Of course I can't side with the legion, their raiding parties are like, the entire powerhouse of my economy! Do you have any idea how much money it takes to fully repair every last unique weapon and armor? I would never give up my free shipments of marksman's carbines, assault carbines, plasma grenades, ect. They even come with free late-game target practice. Thanks, Caesar!
Plus, NCR pays more in weapons and caps. My first reward was a service rifle with armor piercing rounds lmao

Is it me or am I the only one who wants to wear the Brotherhood power armor and use a Bumper sword to duel Lanius but shoot the praetorians with a laser pistol?
With my perks and custom ammo, the Medicine Stick rivals the anti-mat rifle for raw damage per shot, but with a much higher DPS.

During the assault on the Dam, and my battle with Lanius, I used the belt fed automatic grenade machine gun. I saved up all my nades for this fight and I never let up on the trigger as I walked over that dam XD

The hardest playthrough for me in Fallout is to not shoot Legion on sight.
I completely understand, I shoot them on sight no different than Raiders in 97% of my playthroughs

Tbh, Legion's questline is mediocre, but at least you're not the one who has to carry everyone - according to House himself, Legion without Courier's involvement has 70%+ chance of taking Hoover dam (and thus the entire region, because Oliver has no reserves, as he stacks all the troops at the dam, eugh).

It took me a number of playthrough to get skilled enough at the game to survive that battle at low-level, and it *fucking burned* having to let them walk away before that.
Leela clipping into the wall was low key the best part of this.

This is me every play through when I get to Nipton. And my reasoning is the same every time. “He was comin right for me!”
Short version: Do not rapidly approach someone who is armed and was recently shot in the head
You must do a lot of level grinding or do a lot of savescumming. Vulpes' squad are quite dangerous when you first run into them.
@@dark7element Neither. I actually just fell in love with mines and explosives as well as crafting skills when I played Kotor 2 and my use of these talents has served me well. Just one shot or two and then lots of running away while exploding them and unloading my ammo into the bullet sponges is what makes it a thing.

@@scarletjester7831 My holy trinity of conventional weapons (meaning bullets/shotshell not energy weapons or gauss) is Hunting Rifle (with scope ofc) Lil'Devil and Hunting Shotgun/Dinner Bell.
So many legionnaires dead by coinshot at wolfhorn ranch in my playthru, they'd show up everytime I went to stash my loot.

I once watched him chase a piece of human charcoal all the way from the bottom of the map to the bridge heading to New Vegas before getting distracted by one dude with a gun.
Reminder that the Legion is so ooga booga caveman brained that this guy, one of the three (debatably) smart legion members, had to be saved from execution despite winning a battle just because his commander at the time didn't like how he didn't blindly agree to a suicidal attack.
Don't forget that Caesar himself, ordered his top military leader to be burned alive after losing a battle against a group that was more advanced than a bunch of tribals
I love the Legion, but you guys kind of do have a good point.
Reminder that the NCR is so cucked by bureaucracy that a veteran of 40 years and the Cheif of Camp Golf completely abandoned the goals of his superiors in favor of sabotaging his own army due to disillusionment. Then when he got caught he pussed out and committed suicide. Which seems to be par for the course in NCR since half the soldiers are "saving a bullet for themselves" if Caesar takes the dam.

@@heliveruscalion9124 For me, this part of the plot is the most broken and nonsensical plot point in any fallout I have ever played and I played Fallout 4.
Completely broke immersion for me, well not initially because I refused to beleive that the plot/caesar would be so dumb to give you the platinum chip and allow you to go down into the bunker unsupervised and then believe whatever you tell him on face-value and let you go, just like that.
I honestly tought that he is some clever evil bastard who is already 3 steps ahead of everyone and there is going to be some big twist later, like he tinkered on the chip so the robots serve him or something.
But no. Voiceacting and dialogues might be really good in NV, but this part here fucked over the rest for me.

I remember him being more nervous than this for some reason, like he wasn't used to walking around on the strip. Might be because I had a friendlier disposition with the Legion at the time, maybe they fear their friends more than their enemies, or at least fear blowing your cover more.

Maybe, but as I remember Alerio always seems more pissed at you, and mentions that he would have killed you for killing Vulpes had Caesar not ordered otherwise.
I kinda remember the line from Vulpes being something like "uh, hello. This is Mr. Fox. I have something for you on behalf of our shared benefactor" I mostly remember him nervously saying he was "Mr. Fox" (Vulpes is Fox in Latin) and that he had something for you. Might have been on another occasion where Vulpes gives you a quest on the strip, but I can't think of what it would be since I've never really progressed that far with them. The furthest I got was in my first playthrough where I was attempting to play every angle and court every faction as much as I could without pissing the others off until I was forced to make a solid choice, that being surprisingly late into the game when I was unable to negotiate the release of the crucified soldiers in Nelson. So my first kill of a Legionary was Dead Sea.
It sounds pretty boring looking back on it, but it did have its moments, like when you're supposed to get those supplies for Forlorn Hope and the Legionaries are supposed to ambush you, they were just kinda there for me because I had a little Legion rep, they stood around staring at me saying Ave and I was confused at the time.

There needs to be a mod for this. Actually, there needs to be a mod full of options for unconscious NPCs. Capture for bounty, collar ferals for experiments for the Followers (find cure for feralism) lash legionaries to their own crosses, good times for all.

I tried doing the Legion route but everytime a legionaire opened their mouth i kept having to save and kill them and then reload the save. After doing this 10 times I just decided to get Boone and Rex and have a fun little murder party. Highly recommend the under 20 challenge where you kill the legion with weapons under 20 dps.
I never tried a Legion playthrough. I love killing them with my grenade rifle too much to stop!

Problem with doing a full legion playthrough is that there just isn't much to do. You miss out on tens of quests in NCR settlements by being loyal to the legion, and the legion itself only offers like five quests other than the main story. Siding with the legion=demonizing yourself to half of the NPCs in the game and missing out on mounds of content
Its like trying to do a vampire playthrough in Morrowind. Virtually no quests and everyone hates you so you can't access most other quests.
@@Orzorn Yeah, its extremely bare-bones and theres pretty much 0 reason to side with the legion in the context of the story
They have some cool additional quests about helping spies undermine the NCR in New Vegas, but they require a very specific set of stats to even be unlocked, which is a damn shame.
Its almost like siding with slaving genocidal maniacs will alienate other people around you, thus giving you less things to do.
Yeah, New Vegas is decent but it'd HIGHLY overrated. The factions are generic good guy Murrica and generic evil Barbarians. Mr House and Yes Man make it interesting

I like killing Vulpes in Nipton. The Mercenary's Grenade rifle is a bit broken at low levels.
It’s literally worse than the regular grenade rifle, but it can pulp pretty much anything at game start except those damn giant radscorpions

@@fearthedeerreckmon8741 Well the Legion kills people to gain territory and become powerful. I'm not saying the NCR doesn't do the same but most NCR citizens actually enjoy living with the NCR around. If you're with the Legion you're either a slave or a soldier. They're aren't any Citizens in the Legion. Plus, Mr. House (while obviously doing it only for more money and such) does take care of New Vegas and it is one of the most impressive landmarks in post war America. It houses one of the only glimmers of hope and one of the only reasons to go to Nevada after the bombs dropped.
Also also, sorry for writing this entire paragraph about New Vegas. I was nerding out a bit. I do enjoy talking about fallout and having discussions though :)

Spent over 500 hours, probably even more on New Vegas. Always wanted max achievements but I keep being told I failed. Something about not blasting Caesar.

Well I one time heard a legend about possibility to kill Cesar during one with his quests, but this is most likely just a lie, because Cesar always die immediately after meeting Courier.

The devs clearly don't even want you to choose legion. Its like a joke faction. They have no redeeming factors even though they should. At the very least a 'theyre the strongest therefore the Mojave will be stronger' type of justification.
Yeah unlike Yesman or Mr house or the NCR two of the three have a robot army thanks to the main character and they have the Boomer and the BOS and the enclave thanks to the main character

The legion playthrough I did felt... eh. It was weird. Felt like their missions didn't really accomplish much other than assassinating the president. I also like how the final boss fight is the most unique one, since all other ones involve Lanius in the fort, with the "fight" against General Oliver after that not only is laughably easy since you got a ton of killer robots to help you, but you can just... not have it. On the legion path, you actually have to work up to Oliver through a maze-like office with two veteran ranger snipers, and in the final moment, you fight the General and two more veterans with only your companion to help.
All in all, the best part is just curing Caesar's brain tumor by sheer luck. You can actually say you have not fucking clue how you did it, and it's hilarious

Before I got good at the game, I was too low level to survive the combat against them.
And letting them go *did not feel good*.

Yeah most of us are in control of our emotions, regardless of personal viewpoints regarding Legion.
That said, a hot-tempered narrow-sighted character might make for an interesting playthrough.

On one of my playhroughs, I was attacked by Legion Assassins. Before I could even draw my gun, on of them fired.... and THEY ALL bursts into flames. He had fired an incendiary round at his own feet I guess? Either way, I have never feared OR respected The Legion
Vulpes never makes it to the strip in my playthroughs. I always kill him on the first encounter.

Guess you forgot about those ncr share croppers. You can really screw them up by saving the vault dwellers from vault 34, poisoning their lands with radiation. You can also save the local coop in westside by making sure the ncr can never about Tom Anderson stealing water from the sharecroppers.

That’s exactly me. Played NV dozens of times and only played legion once and found it pretty boring. A lot of thr side quests get locked off from you and overall underwhelming end game

Just avoid the main quests like the plague and just roleplay something dumb. I get more enjoyment from restarting a playthrough and walking in a random direction with no goal in mind than doing any of the main quests.

My favourite part in every playthrough is stocking every single nuke i can find then using them all to carpet bomb the Legion camp during the final battle

There is plenty of unironic support for the Legion in the fandom so I think Obsidian did a good job giving them depth.
Not every faction has to be in shades of grey when it comes to ethics. Sometimes people just suck. Sometimes, people are just straight up evil. There are groups in real life as well that have no redeemable qualities.
Of course, they are not evil just cuz. They have a coherent ideology that a human being can realistically believe in given the right circumstances. Just because they were meant to the be the defacto bad guys of Fallout New Vegas doesn't mean they are just violent dumb-dumbs and nothing more.

Writing and representation of major factions in New Vegas is quite poor, but theirs is particularly bad. Even Mr.House is unexplained and at times just childish and stupid.

10/10 i remember one day I avoided nipton so I didn't met vulpes, and I could get special dialogue from him after meeting him in the strip first.
did bleed me dry, 2 dlc's, forgot about it, went to the strip, got the chip, met vulpes, shot him in the face with dinner bell, ate him because im a cannibal. then I was like "huh I still haven't discovered nipton yet?" went there, "wait where's vulp... oh right..." thats when I remember.

The biggest reason why I usually side with the Legion in my playthroughs is because I play a female courier, it’s fun to imagine pissing off those smug little sexist pricks when my courier is acquiring far more power then them as Caesars private brain surgeon, and Kimbles assassin. Plus I’d rather get the opportunity to get first crack in raiding their stolen treasure hoard over the NCR’s stupid walkie talkie radio help.
I’m probably bias though, I generally side with the ‘villain’ type factions in games: Dark Brotherhood assassin, Raider Overboss, an exotic alternative because I’m way too nice in reality 😂

It's a shame the devs didn't have time to flesh out the Legion as well as they fleshed out the NCR, House and even the Brotherhood (which went back to their techno-hermit roots instead of being lowkey propaganda for the Army as in FO4). You can feel they had some barebones left of making them morally viable, but nothing actually compelling to overlook their destruction of towns, penchant for slavery, _and creepy obsession with Biblical times._
Maybe if the game had a super corrupt town like Nipton supposedly was, and had its roadways always infested with raiders and other vermin _except in Legion territory,_ I could see people being more warm towards that faction.
They preach strength above all else but cant even crush settlers or ncr soliders? Not my fault Most of us show them what strength is especially the unarmed guys
@@Subject_Keter Yeah, Caesar is quite a hypocrite with his whole anti-technology angle yet has no qualms having his top soldiers and bodyguards well-strapped and even has his own autodoc. Being a slaver army, they seem to approach a "numbers make might" over making their soldiers efficient and using the lastest tech, which is where the NCR stomps them to the ground despite being stretched so thin, which in turn get stomped by the Brotherhood by the same reasons and handicaps.
The one thing I think he's a complete idiot on is his desire to destroy the Dam, as everything else he does, despite being horrible and cruel, _logically fits the post-apocalyptic hellworld they're in._ Definitely smarter than "Colonel" Autumn's desire to poison the entirety of D.C.'s water supply with coof shot bioengineering and eliminating the vast majority of surviving humans.

I hate the fact that Caesar has the gall to say he based his Legion on Rome so much. The Romans were literally a nation of engineers, that's what made them successful not their slaves or ruthlessness or whatever. If the real Romans were fighting enemies with power armors and energy guns, the first thing they'd do is try to reverse engineer those technologies and mass-produce them, not go ''ooga booga, sharp stick stronger than gun''.
Hence why their weaponry and tactics actually changed throughout the years of their existence.
Yeah, its like he only read a few pages from a child's textbook and then made up the rest in his head. The Romans weren't angels, but they were civilised and cultured and tended to resort to slaughter as a last resort after diplomacy and bribery failed. They built some of the greatest cities and roads of all human history (the fact some Roman roads are still in active use today in parts of the world speaks to how skilled they were at engineering that they can even handle modern vehicles without constant maintained - meanwhile roads made a decade ago today are often crumbling into dust already).
'Caeser' is a fraud. He knows it too, which is why he's so touchy about being questioned and will lash out over the smallest thing. He's a boy who never grew up, complete with a 'girls icky' mentality. Shotgun to the face, every time.

Fallout: New Vegas is probably one of my favorite games, right there with morrowind, but the legion definitely had some design problems.
Biggest one, IMO, was the lack of likeable characters. Hell, even memorable characters. It had a couple memorable ones (Caesar, Legate), but that's barely any. It definitely didn't have any likeable characters. NCR was involved in a lot of side quest, and you got to meet so many of their soldiers and form an opinion of them, both good and bad ones. Legion also felt so...bare in the wasteland. They had like one presence in the southeast, and that was it. You had to go so far out of your way to try and meet them.
I'm pretty sure I remember reading it was a known issue, but as they were hounded by time constraints they just couldn't do more.
I remember vulpes purely for the fact i kill him and wear his hat everywhere every playthrough, it's a good hat.
the ragdoll like death animations always make me laugh no matter which fallout i'm playing.
